Reviews for Hotel Edison
Review 1:The room was very dated, bathroom tile was crumbling and in desperate need of repair. The room was small, beds were uncomfortable. If I had my time back I would have asked for another room when I checked in.
Review 2:Great location, staff were excellent!
Review 3:No internet available for free. Paid connection was terrible. Any additional service, the use of a computer or printer has extra cost. And everytime you or somebody else use the heating system, the pipes make an aweful sound thus you cannot sleep well. Our room was located beside the service room, therefore more noise.
Review 4:Good location
Review 5:It's very dated needs a bit of TLC, very noisy ,bathroom very small ,air con doesn't really work and when it's on it sounds like thunder. Doors need replacing too u can hear everything.
Review 6:Location was perfect and beds were comfy
Review 7:the smell of the bathroom was one of damp towels. i had to secure some frebreeze to make the smell go away.
Review 8:the location and staff were amazing. the level of security to reach my room was really nice to see.
Review 9:Hest regulation could be better very relaxing enjoyable stsy. This was our third or fourth year at the Edison. Well probably be back next January tol.
Review 10:Great location, friendly helpful staff. Juan was great at checkin--included free wy fi and a coffee pot
Review 11:Wasn't made aware that we would have to put a deposit down on the room, we paid cash when we arrived then was told there was a dayliy fee that you would get back once you leave, was $250 in cash..... But wasn't told what it was for just that we had to pay.... I don't mind but it would have been nice to know we had to do that before we got there, One of the maids didn't clean our room Very well at all and one morning came into our room at 8am ish we was getting ready to go out when we asked her to come back she gave me a dirty look and when my friend went it to our room to see how long she was gonna be the maid gave her so much attitude, it was very uncomfortable to be there and felt we had to leave our room.
Review 12:Great location have been to this hotel before, beds are very comfortable, didn't have a kettle but when I asked for one was told they only had a coffee machine and asked if it would be ok we said yes and we received tea and coffee for this machine. Door staff and reception staff are very nice always revcieved a good morning, night and told to have a good day! Very helpful
Review 13:I didn't like that it was advertised of having WiFi but actually you would have to pay. WiFi is like water and it should be offered. The bathroom was quite small and there was issue with heater being noisy. Despite this and with the WiFi being sorted I would stay again especially with cheese and wine evening was lovely touch.
Review 14:I loved the location and being so close to Times Square was perfect. The bedroom was a good size.
Review 15:It is a clean, comfortable. affordable place to stay in the heart of the city. From what I've seen that's a rare thing, and it's a great deal for the money.
Review 16:Originally stayed in this hotel in 2007 and loved the location, but the rooms were small and a bit dark. Now it has been refurbished it has to be top of anyones list for value, comfort and helpful staff. We were upgraded to a premium room with free wifi, the bed was large and comfortable, the bathroom was modern and bright (they used to be tiny) and the staff couldn´t have been more helpful. Everyone from the cleaning lady who joked about having a party in our room, to the bell boy, the reception staff and the concierge all gave excellent service and were happy to do so - Anyone who knows NYC realises that service can often be abrupt but these guys ticked all the boxes for professionalism with a smile. I would be happy to recommend to anyone.
Review 17:The hotel was in an excellent location 1 minute from Time Square The staff was very helpful and extremely friendly I would definitely stay there again
Review 18:The Wifi was horrible. There was maintenance. I woke up on the noise of drilling in the mornings. When I called the guest services, they said that I should have asked before booking the room if there was construction in the hotel, as if the hotel is famous for! He wasn't even sorry for the inconvenience! He said that he would change my room, but we had unpacked all of our 6 luggages, not in the mood to repack every thing all over again.
Review 19:Location
Review 20:Not all rooms have been recently renovated, and would need some work.
Review 21:Great location, comfortable even though slightly outdated room. The hotel kindly changed our double room with narrow beds to a double room with queen beds without extra charges.
Review 22:It is in the perfect location, just 50 meters from Time Square. The rooms are nice and clean. I had a few questions previous to my visit and they answered promptly and accurately.
Review 23:No free wifi Century 21 this cannot happen! The room was extra small I had to ask for an upgrade which of course cost me 135 dollars extra
Review 24:Ubication good
Review 25:Disappointed that there was no Café Edison, no gift shop, no Sofia's. The one hotel bar, the Rum House, was overpriced and dull.
Review 26:Location is perfect - close to subway, theatres and restaurants. Rooms are clean. Staff is friendly and professional.
Review 27:Noisy corridors and thin walls between rooms, light sleepers beware! Super slow elevators on busy days with limited capacity but if you are not in a hurry, no worries.
Review 28:Location was awesome for exploring the city. Hotel has a nice charm to it and is definitely a boutique hotel. As such, it does not offer what a more up scale property would offer. So don't go expecting it to be the Ritz.
Review 29:We stayed on the 20th floor therefore noise wasn't really an issue however if you were staying on the lower floors I can imagine it would be very noisy for sleeping. I was surprised that the blinds weren't thicker as the lights from Time Square made the room light for sleeping. Wifi connection was terrible. Not sure if it was just on our floor but for the whole week we couldn't access internet in our rooms. Not very good when you pay for a weeks internet use up front..
Review 30:The hotel location was perfect and most tourist attractions were close enough to walk to. The room and bathroom were very clean and comfortable. Staff were friendly and welcoming.
Review 31:The only thing that stinks for next time is that we like to enjoy the whole day so we usually get in early, and they don't allow to store bags before check in, so I would have to figure something out at the bus station maybe!
Review 32:The staff was AMAZING... They worked very well to make our stay as great as possible. The rooms were great. We usually go to the YMCA which is shared bathrooms, so it was awesome to have our own bathroom. The hotel itself was beautiful. We have a bar we like to go to it was a legit 2 minute walk from the hotel which was an A+ we would recommend it to everyone, and we will be back soon for sure.
Review 33:The room was small but it's NYC so that's to be expected. The bathroom door was glass and there was no fan in there.
Review 34:The staff were friendly and made us feel comfortable. Our room was incredibly clean.
Review 35:The fee for guest wifi was really high which was really surprising. The heating unit in the room was noisy and temperamental
Review 36:The room and bathroom were clean but outdated. There was a large closet space and free safe. The hotel was well situated close to times square
Review 37:There was no separate shower from the bathroom
Review 38:The security of the building The staff were kind and caring The price was very reasonable and location
Review 39:We had trouble with the heat--were in a "classic double". It was extremely hot but there was no thermostat or handle on radiator to turn it down. Maintenance turned the heat "off" with a wrench. But even with windows open we had trouble sleeping. In the morning I asked for a room where we could control the heat. The manager agreed and promised an upgrade. We checked our bags then went out for day. At 4 we checked in again and got a room with a thermostat and windows overlooking the street. But the room was tired--seemed to be being repainted had dinged furniture and we weren't sure it was really in regular use BUT didn't have time to say anything because we had plans for our time in NYC and didn't want to spend it dealing with hotel staff. Linens were clean beds were comfortable and heat was not sauna-like.
Review 40:Fun to be steps from Times Square and we came to see a Broadway show which was just a block away.
Review 41:No parking, poor lobby management AND when I checked my statement they charged me $25 more than my bill said --for no reason! We were literally in the room to sleep only - 9 hours tops so I can't imagine why there should be ANY extra charges
Review 42:Good location, clean beds
Review 43:- Room 320 was dirty and outdated. Tub did the drain properly. Took a shower for 7 minutes and water filled half the tub. If they actually cleaned the tub they would know that there was a build of up dirt, plastic and hair. I even tried to pick it out myself with their pen and wasn't able to. I'm pretty sure it was there for months. - All the rooms 220,320, 420, 520 ...720 (where they moved me) etc.. is right against the elevator wall. I literally heard ALL the gears and noise and cranks the elevator was making. They should NEVER put anyone in these rooms. They should just tear these rooms down and put ice machines there instead of having to go the second floor. They were also doing renovations somewhere in the lobby area that could be heard 7 floors up. - Value for my money? I guess - booked on cyber Monday. If you need a place that's average value with average standards. Stay here. - Pretty bad with wifi everywhere you have to pay for wifi at this hotel. (they comped me wifi because of the crappy room) - Given the fact that the Subway is so extensive I would not stay here again unless the price was right. Even then I'd try AIRBNB first.
Review 44:- Excellent location 1 block away from Times Square - Nice firm bed. - Staff was average accommodating
Review 45:I didn't like that there was a hole/ water damage to the wallpaper in my room. (Yes I sucked it up it was only one night but still didn't like that) The bathroom was very tiny and there was no counter space. Despite what I paid I thought the room would've been better from the pics online. My view was of another room :-( No city lights
Review 46:I love the location of the Hotel! It's right in the middle of everything
Review 47:Every facility is paid for. I needed to print a paper and I had to go to the business centre and buy a quota to do so. Also, internet was not stable.
Review 48:I liked the hotel's location a lot
Review 49:I was dissapointed that the diner attached to the hotel was closed down. Bit of an inconvenience as it was very handy.
Review 50:The location is unreal and the staff are very helpful especially Bobby the doorman. This was my second time staying there and I will be back
Review 51:The male receptionist who messed up my payment so I have currently paid twice. The restaurant was closed, no tea or coffee in room, no infomation book in room, no infomation in room about Wifi. Exposed lagged pipe in bathroom. My son was joining me and when he arrived he was told I hadn't booked in. He sat in reception for half an hour and then becoming concerned as I had told him my arrival time asked again, to be told they had made a mistake and I was in the room. The half an hour it took to check out and the incompetancy in doing this resulting in I have been charged twice for one night as the put me down as a no show. And Booking.com in not sorting it out when I contacted them to say I has stayed at the hotel and the lack of response from them.
Review 52:The porter Kevin who was really helpful and friendly. The female receptionist who let me book in early. Good security for rooms.
Review 53:Beware on arrival the hotel debit your credit card with the full cost of your stay plus a security deposit. The bath tub was unusable/tired and in a poor condition. Room service didnt turn up until 4.00 in the afternoon. Wi -Fi is rubbish. I had three bills on check out they even tried to charge me for an extra night \I had not stayed there. It took 72hrs to get my security deposit refund.
Review 54:the location
Review 55:We could not get the air con to stick at a good temperature despite asking for help from maintenance, so it got too warm in the night and we didn't sleep well. This could have been our fault though. The room was fine, a little boxy and uninspired but absolutely fine.
Review 56:The staff were very helpful and friendly. Very good service. The location could not be better, so central and just round the corner from Times Sq. The bathroom shower was amazing! Very strong water pressure.
Review 57:Very reasonable rates for the location, clean, and good service. I had to spend an entire week there for a business trip. Just two very minor comments about the room. The first is that I was right behind the elevators, so there was a fairly constant faint noise from the mechanisms on the other side of the wall. It was minimal enough that I quickly got used to it, though. The other is that the room was a bit warm even after lowering the number on the radiator (I fully realize it could have just been my own technical ignorance). It mattered little to me since I sleep naked anyway, but if I had been wearing any clothing, I may have been a little uncomfortable. In general, it was great. They even gave me complementary internet access given the duration of my stay. Would choose the Edison again.
Review 58:They charged 75.00 for incidentals and never mentioned it. I happen to look at my statement while in New York and saw that they had taken the extra money. Had I known that before hand I could have planned a little better and allowed money for that. I was unable to do some of the things I had planned.
Review 59:Location was perfect
Review 60:Elevators were occasionally crowded and slow but it is a very old building.
Review 61:Staff and management was very friendly. No stuffy people here. All extra needs were attended to promptly. A snafu led to a nice upgrade that was not expected or asked for.
Review 62:Bell staff was unfriendly and the style of the room was majorly outdated while we later found out that other rooms were newly renovated
Review 63:Great location near Times Square
Review 64:we stayed at the hotel for 9 nights. at the 20 floor. the hotel is a 1 minute from times squre. we got an renovated room. the staff was very polite and kind - the reception, the security, the housekeeping. a great hotel at a great location.
Review 65:I usually get the signature rooms but this time I got a junior suite as my husband has to spend a lot of time in the room resting and he likes to have a chair and the price of the room was very good. The signature rooms have walk in showers which are good for us. The one problem we had is that this room has a tub and it did not have any kind of a mat to put in so that we would not slip in the tub. I think this issue should be addressed.
Review 66:We are at the hotel every three weeks for medical care. The people are so welcoming and helpful especially the doormen. They are aware of the health issue and really help us a lot. I thank them so much!
Review 67:The rooms were quite small and run down. There were loud noises above my room.
Review 68:The location was right around the corner from Times Square. The staff was friendly and helpful.
Review 69:I was given a handicapped room with no shower; we do not have any incapacitated family member. The bathing soaps provided in this hotel leaves your skin extremely dry.
Review 70:There was construction right behind our room when we first arrived. The staff was so great and found us a new room that was perfect.
Review 71:The location was perfect for our purpose in NYC (Broadway) and its proximity to major subway hubs was also great. The room was really nice and the staff was accommodating with our requests.
Review 72:It was my mom's 93 birthday! She had a fantastic time. Staff was very helpful and we were on the 17th floor with a view. My mom and I travel extensively, but it's getting a little more difficult for her. Thanks for making it such a special & memorable stay.
Review 73:The bathrooms were terrible. The bathtub and sink were dirty and stained with some paint. The beds were not as comfortable as I expected them to be.
Review 74:The hotel is located in the center and heart of NYC, which is Times Square. We had easy access to restaurants, pharmacies, etc.
Review 75:Very expensive and outdated internet/wifi costs/ connection process. real mix of rooms, some very small, dark and noisy, higher floors are much better, more spacious and same price.
Review 76:comfortable room, convenient location for tourists, amazing 'Rum Bar' with live music under hotel.
Review 77:We would have highly appreciated a breakfast restaurant in the hotel. A cosy lobby bar would be nice as well. We always had to wait extremely long time for the elevators.
Review 78:Excellent location, very friendly staff. Good tourist class, we will definitely stay there next time we go to NY.
Review 79:Rang reception to report we had a problem with the safe. We waited nearly an hour for security to come to the room but they never did.
Review 80:Location and room was a good size. We had requested a quite room at the back of the hotel and this request was facilitated.
Review 81:Reception wasn't always helpful or happy. Needs an update in rooms, there was no facilities.
Review 82:The location was excellent and cleaniness was very good.
Review 83:Bathtub was a bit dirty. Rooms are fairly small, which is expected in NYC. However when pullout sofa was open it was difficult to walk around it to get to the bathroom.
Review 84:Location was excellent. Art Deco style of lobby is beautiful.
Review 85:Of the staff we encountered it was a bit hit or miss on their friendliness. Marianne the operator was as sweet as can be and super helpful. The doorman was also very kind. The bellboys were rude and literally SCOFFED at the tip we left them (they felt it wasn't enough I guess).
Review 86:Perfect location right next to Times Square and the theaters. The Rum House downstairs was also really great.
Review 87:Nothing. Everything was perfect for us. Nothing negative. Absolutely nothing
Review 88:Staff was extremely attentive to our needs and comfort. Very professional and courteous. I had 2 teenagers with me and their safety was my top priority Edison passed with flying colors! Great hotel..great staff..great location. We'll be back.
Review 89:An occurrence that put a dampener on my trip was that the hotel made an accidental and unexpected authorisation of almost $3000 USD against the card I used to book the accommodation, on top of the full up-front payment made for the accommodation, which consequently froze my bank account. I was unable to access any money until the authorisation was removed which required a lot of too-ing and fro-ing between my bank back in my home country and the hotel (it seemed this was a regular occurrence for the hotel to some degree). The most the hotel did to aid the situation which they caused, apart from covering the cost of the multiple international phone calls to my bank and completing & submitting the relevant paperwork required by the bank to release the authorisation, was the provision of a few food vouchers. Although some of the staff were extremely understanding and helpful in getting the matter rectified, it was something that should not have happened in the first place and created a great deal of unnecessary stress. My only saving grace was that I was travelling with a friend who was able to provide me financial assistance until I could access my bank account. Also, nearer to the end of our trip the housekeeping service became a little sloppy i.e. used items being removed without being replaced.
Review 90:Great location, a short stroll to the red steps in Times Square. Central location. Majority of the hotel staff were very friendly, outgoing and helpful. Hotel has a lot of charm and is presented well. Comfortable rooms and great facilities.
Review 91:Lack of staff. Front desk queues. Lifts that barely worked and overcrowded. Quite expensive for what it is. The suites aren't close to the booking.com photos Noisy No dampeners on the doors so there was lots of slamming doors late at night. Major stress over cancelled bookings that are still to be refunded 2 weeks after incorrectly being charged
Review 92:Location. Well managed ny eve and complimentary champagne.
Review 93:Air quality - too humid in the room which left it with an odor. The room is so old with frayed carpets, no finish left on the tub, rust around the drains, the door to our room did not lock when we arrived. Our room was not like those in the pictures...
Review 94:It was close to all of the venues we wished to see. We could walk to pretty much all our venues except the World Trade Centre and Museum. Subways and bus routes were easily accessible. Was quiet enough where guests are concerned. Restaurants everywhere.
Review 95:Nothing much that is of value for the rate charged by the hotel. Rooms are not very narrow abd unconfortable and no free wifi anywhere in the hotel. Staff are not friendly.
Review 96:Location is excellent and easy assesaable to major sightseeing spots.
Review 97:The HVAC fan in the room (818) ran all the time and was kind of noisy - we couldn't get it to shut off. The elevators are small.
Review 98:Our room was updated, clean, and pretty. It was not much smaller than any other hotel room. The bathroom was also updated and very pretty. I was very happy with the Hotel Edison, I would stay there again, and I would recommend it to others. There is a 24 hr convenience store/deli adjacent to the hotel and a delicious Italian restaurant down the street.
Review 99:Great Staff, great location for Broadway Shows and subway connections, good price. No problems with reservation via booking.com. First time using booking.com, I would do this again. If you are going to NY city for the Broadway Shows and want to be mindful of a budget ... Hotel Edison is a great choice, you can not beat the location for getting to TKTS
Review 100:The rooms were stuffy and AC didn't work adequately even after two visits from engineers. We called down for extra pillows but never got them until we left note for housekeeping staff the next day. We were suppose to have received gift in our room upon arrival but it took two days and several phone calls for them to finally get it to our room.nwhile we appreciate diversity, it would be nice to have desk staff that speak and understand English better.
Review 101:Loved how close it was to so many NYC landmarks. Loved how secure we felt coming and going. Loved how we could see reflections of Times Square from our room without the noise and hustle and bustle right outside our room
Review 102:Elevators took ages, bathroom was run down, towels were small, room was not cleaned one day. No wifi, no normal channels on the TV. Keys kept stopped working, cleaners were rude
Review 103:Location and comfort of the room.
Review 104:very small elevators. couldn't get our wheelchair down to lobby to check out because all of the elevators were full. had to call desk 2x, waited 1/2 hr before they sent one up empty.
Review 105:convenience of location to broadway & times sq
Review 106:Everything . It was the most horrible hotel and the most horrible experience in my whole life ! When i arrived, the valet took more than 1 hour to park my car , i had to stay with them all this time! And BTW They're not friendly at all! Next, My room was in the 15th floor but the noise from the streets was SO LOUD ! The windows are old and in one of them there was a big hole for the AC which brought MORE and MORE loud noise ! The room is nothing like you see in the photos - the bathroom is rusty and ugly and the room is VERY DEPRESSING ! Simply - it was CATASTROPHIC .
Review 107:Bathroom is very small. A minibar would be nice. A bit noisy.
Review 108:Location is perfect. Price is fair given the location in Manhattan. Beds were clean and confortable.
Review 109:Hotel in much need of renovation! Bathroom shower was a disaster, water everywhere, the whole room was drenched! There were cobwebs in the curtains and moldy rust on the floor lamp shade! The pictures on the wall were all wonky looked like someone had had a party! No tea or coffee making facilities in the room, it was advertised as having a kurig in every room!
Review 110:Location was good
Review 111:The location was great and the bathroom was perfect, especially the terry cloth robe. The room was and cozy convenient, a room where we were able to rest well after running around Manhattan after having traveled all day.
Review 112:No breakfast at the hotel. No free wifi, you have to pay a fee. Clean room, but carpet at the hallway smell bad. If we came back to NYC, probably do not choose Hotel Edison.
Review 113:Even though the lobby decor was lovely with original Art Deco architecture, the cost was astronomical. The bathtub was chipped and rusty and it smelled like old corroding metal, also the plug did not fit and the tub drained as quickly as it was filled.
Review 114:Very close to the theatres. Time square just around the corner. Great shopping close by.
Review 115:The Edison was ideally located to Times Square and 5 mins walk to Rockerfeller Centre and 10 mins walk to Central Park. Room was on 5th floor...easy access with 2 Queen beds and spacious. Very clean and although we could hear some of the buzz on the street it in no way interfered with our sleep. It was a gentle reminder that we were in the heart of NYC! Staff were very helpful and courteous at all times. We stayed for 10 days over the Christmas period and it was brilliant!
Review 116:Great Location, Room, shower and facilities We have stayed here before some years ago and it has been upgraded and is even better. Great value for money.
Review 117:I've never had to pay for luggage storage in a hotel before. I think, this is a basic service a hotel must offer guests. Furthermore, Wifi was available at an additional cost, but the connection was really bad. After complaining at the reception they promised me to contact technical support. However, I've never got a message or was contacted by the staff again.
Review 118:Valet parking wait to pick up our car after checkout. We waited 45 minutes however our car was out front for 15 minutes, no one came to find us once our car arrived. Lack of communication between valets and front desk staff. Beds very hard and uncomfortable.
Review 119:Bell staff, security and valets very nice and helpful. Location.
Review 120:I would have liked a better window view for the few minutes I realised I was surrounded by NYC tall buildings.
Review 121:Location. Comparative prices. Staff were helpful. Overall, good. I hate wasting money on overpriced hotels as I am working long hours. On 2 evenings I purchased half price theatre tickets at the nearby facility. Top shows. Musicals that noone in the world does as well as the Yanks!
Review 122:Hotel is a little dated, our air con didn't work which meant the room was either too hot or too cold
Review 123:Location is great, it's just off Times Square, beds were comfy
Review 124:Really is nothing to dislike everything is good except on one occasion I left a key card downstairs for a guess and it was not there for my guess
Review 125:Would be nice to have extra facilities such as room service, mini bar, pool etc. but again it's price appropriate for what you get.
Review 126:Room was renovated, although it was quite small. Wifi worked ok- not very fast though. Perfect location. Friendly staff. Overall good for the price.
Review 127:I didn't like how small the single bed room was and didn't like how the bathtub was rusted. Bathroom felt a little dirty but other than that and how tight the room was, everything was great.
Review 128:I loved how close it was to time square and how easy it was to get around town with public transportation.
Review 129:Booked a standard room - big mistake. Room was very old and had a gap where the window AC plastic met the window sill. Luckily the hotel was able to accommodate us with a signature room. Shower in the new shut off several times while using.
Review 130:The location was awesome. It was right in the heart of Times Square. The signature rooms were small, but updated. Staff was helpful and nice.
Review 131:Check in Staff were not friends or overly keen to assist wherever possible. Concierge was helpful. Beds were not very comfortable which is a big thing when staying at a hotel, for that reason alone, if we were to stay in NY again we would go to a different hotel. Also our room was very noisy at night and through early hours of the morning making it extra difficult to sleep
Review 132:Excellent Location was very convenient to Time Square
Review 133:Bathroom was very small for a family to share and a bit dated but this did not affect our stay or enjoyment
Review 134:Location, staff helpful and beds were great. Everything was so close and juniors behind the hotel served the best breakfast in New York
