Reviews for Wyndham Garden Chinatown
Review 1:Well located if you love the Soho, Chinatown, Nolita areas of NY. Our kinda location, we don't like tourist central! Close to the subway and easy access to up and downtown. 5 mins walk to Broadway and decent shopping if that's your thing. 10-15 mins walk to Tribecca and downtown. Real nice yoga studio in the area too!
Review 2:located on the edge of Chinatown, it's the perfect location for exploring Manhattan; subway stations nearby; walking distance to Little Italy, SoHo and Broadway. Friendly and helpful staff
Review 3:no complaints
Review 4:Excellent new facilities. Good location walking distance to LES,Little Italy, SoHo (sort of a golden triangle ;) and near to subway and bus. Splendid view from rooftop bar and rooms in upper floors. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Review 5:Luggage storage in the room was not enough.
Review 6:I liked the check in and check out. Venessa at the reception was very nice and helpful. The hotel was a home to me and my boys.
Review 7:The faucet in our room is difficult to adjust and the TV remote was not working due to dead batteries.
Review 8:The hotel is located very close to the subway and there are great restaurants nearby.
Review 9:I've stayed here a few times and the service from the staff has always been amazing. The rooms are very nice and clean and if you get lucky, you get a amazing view.
Review 10:On arrival the gentleman who was on the customer service desk reception was discourteous, he observed my friend and I outside the hotel attempting to enter the hotel with our luggage. He made no attempt to assist or offer assistande. The luggage was heavy and we both were unable to lift up steps. After approximately 10 to fifteen minutes we realised there was a lift, however, we continually pressed the button which did not activate. eventually the same man then turned the lift on.The man was extremely unhelpful when we asked questions about the lift and eating facilities. He seemed disinterested and at no point was there any eye contact. My friend and I made the decision to stay one night. He did not advise how to use the card to gain lift access to our room, this information was gained from another customer! Who happened to be going to their room.Further, when we got to the room the room was odorous and damp smelling, due to our long traveling on the plane and a long wait to get through immigration it was rather tiring and no energy to complain about the room which looked nothing like the picture on the internet. the catalogue of issues that took place, the room should not have been paid for but at that time in the night there was no choice.Due to this appalling treatment and poor reception absolutely no way would I recommend this hotel for anyone to stay. When we queried breakfast or evening eating facilities we were advised that the kitchen was not working/undergoing renovation. Therefore would have to go out to get something to eat . My opinion Given the cost of the overnight stay this cost should have included breakfast at the very least.I must say the young woman who was on the reception in the morning offered her apologies. Despite thisNot a hotel neither my friend or I would reccmmend to friends or relatives.a to this factor we did not want to spend even one night.
Review 11:Nothing
Review 12:Nice place. You find food everywhere to reasonable price. Walking distance to Little Italy and Soho. From subway stop Canal St you can get almost every line. Staff is always ready to help, friendly and flexible.
Review 13:Restaurant service was poor, breakfast meal was not good, but amazingly delicious food in open air markets close by. Wonderful Chinese bakery across the street. Hotel was excellent.
Review 14:Lobby bar was not staff. Lounge upstairs was under repair. Breakfast was not available although advertised as such.
Review 15:Bed was comfortable. Room was clean. Staff pleasant
Review 16:not in the main tourist areas, but this is what I love the most! In the heart of China town and close to Little Italy. A short walk to the bars, restaurants and shops of Lower East Side - and easy access to Canal St, Bowery and Grand Street subways. Also very good location for trips to Brooklyn (and of course walking the bridge) I book here on every visit to NYC and have never had anything but a great experience
Review 17:The check in guy took my card (not a credit card as I pre load it to get best possible exchange rates and added $50 each day of our stay, refunded after two business days after leaving. Didn't say a word about his process. So be aware of this 'common practice ' in NYC. Also, the rate you see at booking .com?? Add 17% for city taxes
Review 18:Location and hotel itself
Review 19:We would have preferred if the showerhead a door on it there was no microwave in the room which would've been nice and the rooftop bar was closed for some reason
Review 20:The location was great the staff was very nice and very clean hotel
Review 21:Because the booking.com did not send the information to the hotel so take me 2 or 3 hour waiting in the lobby to check in that was very bad
Review 22:Location good
Review 23:New York is an expensive location ,disappointed no breakfast offered as part of the deal
Review 24:View from the bedroom window was amazing. Staff were very helpful and friendly. This is an incredibly interesting part of New York with good access to subway.
Review 25:Nothing, i can honestly say that this had been the best hotel i have ever stayed in NY. And i have been coming to NY for more than ten year's already
Review 26:Clean modern spacious hotel at a perfect location. Staff very friendly and service high level
Review 27:Nothing that I really didn't like (we did have a corner room on the 11th floor though)!
Review 28:In the middle of china town with great subway access and an awesome view from (high, especially corner) rooms and the rooftop bar! China town is real China town, not touristy, we found that interesting but be prepared!
Review 29:For a 4* hotel the facilities were rubbish. Couldn't even get tea spoons when requested as there were none in the hotel. one tea bag in the room, one bottle of water reducing to none. Single ply loo roll, no shower gel etc.
Review 30:Location was great and the room was fine. Amazing view
Review 31:The roof top bar! With that view you should have nice music, snack food, liquor to make most drinks. It is cold, loud and no people. BIG disappointment.
Review 32:Great location
Review 33:Limited Breakfast and food options. Restaurant closed for refurb.
Review 34:Nice quiet and fairly spacious well equipped room for NYC. Requested and got high level room with with N view of Empire State! Nice rooftop bar
Review 35:Room was a little small with little storage space but I guess that's what you get for the price in NY.
Review 36:Good location. Liked the balcony that allowed us to get outside for fresh air.
Review 37:Noise from the street was unreal. Bowery is a wide, big street, so traffic calms down only late in the night/early in the morning but you still hear the huge trucks, as they stop at the traffic lights. We started getting used to it but first 3 nights were difficult. Otherwise the room was very quiet, the hotel was full but we never heard our neighbours, what would be more unacceptable for me than the noise from the traffic.
Review 38:Location was good (close to subway, Broadway) and the staff too, room spacious, modern and full of light, bed enormous. Plus located in Chinatown - a marvel of a district!
Review 39:We wished for hotter water in the shower. A minor inconvenience. Lukewarm showers wake you up!
Review 40:The location, for our purposes was good. Clean and comfortable room. Courteous and knowledgeable staff. Room was ready when we arrived... no delays.
Review 41:The aircon cannot be controlled the at the level we wanted, we wanted our room to be warm and cozy but the control doesn't follow the temp we set. Also the shower room doesn't seem nicely done- the faucet is hard to turn, the heat of the shower is not enough and it pours out water all over the floor that we need to remove the toilet papers from its place or else it will all be wet.
Review 42:I like the location and for giving us an upper level room when I requested for it.
Review 43:The rooms were smaller than I'm used to and I wasn't a fan of the frosted glass wall in the shower. I had to shower in the dark.
Review 44:The staff was very pleasant every time I passed through the lobby and in the halls. The rooms were immaculate and well laid out so it felt like there was more room than there actually was. Also, the beds were comfortable and the TV worked well.
Review 45:There was a very noisy ice machine right outside my room. However, the staff was great though, when I complained about it, they agreed to turn it off at night during my stay. The carpet! I know it is pretty standard in US hotels, but wooden floors are so much more hygienic.
Review 46:The room had a decent size, taking into account NY standards. It was clean and had a comfortable bed. It was a light room, with a big window and a good working desk. I was on the 15th floor and the view was quite nice. I like the lower east of manhattan a lot, so location was good. Chinatown has many good, cheap restaurants.
Review 47:Room was a little tight
Review 48:Great location to the lower east side, soho, Greenwich , train station. View from 9th floor wonderful. Great getaway from the touristy theatre district. Great access to amazing restaurant and bars.
Review 49:DIscussion on whether breakfast was included or not (got fixed!). Breakfast area was in a bar and not the original restaurant in the basement.
Review 50:Comfort of rooms, bathrooms, fridge in the room, plenty of towels. Close to Subway and Chinatown. Friendly and helofull staff. Balcony.
Review 51:Its a shame the restaurant was closed...but that can't be helped as it was being renovated. The prices of drinks at the roof top bar were very expensive...with a non-discretionary service charge of $10 on top... a round of 2 drinks came to $42...very expensive! Especially as we were hotel residents!! We didn't drink there again.
Review 52:The staff were always polite and very helpful. Room service was excellent.
Review 53:Shower door in bathroom is way too small so water gets all over the floor outside the tub. Also needs to be a fan in bathroom.
Review 54:Great location in heart of Chinatown - close to subway. Fantastic view from room which was very comfortable. Staff very helpful.
Review 55:They asked us to pay for bags to be stored that afternoon. Usually hotels do this for guests that need to leave the room but have a later flight. Not a huge deal usually would leave a tip anyway.
Review 56:It has a great location near a subway to all that you may need to get to in NYC. The area is bustling with local activity which makes you feel like you are living in New York not visiting. Daniel was really helpful.
Review 57:Rooms are great, everything is very modern and clean. Room space is very big for NY. You feel yourself like at home. There are lots of places to eat in neighbourhood. Different subway stations in a walking distance.
Review 58:No reasonable breakfast and no complementary coffee. The coffee is a big issue.
Review 59:The view from our room was spectacular. We had a clear shot of the Empire State Building and all the glory of Uptown. The hotel was close to the subway station
Review 60:The location was convenient to what I needed, but I need not feel safe walking alone and the smells from the local vendors, especially those near the subway station, were quite unpleasant.
Review 61:The hotel itself was great. The staff was very helpful.
Review 62:The rooftop bar. Pricing is high, the Cocktails are low level. But the view is great!
Review 63:For New York realy large rooms. Perfekt view to up down! Subway around the corner. Soho, Little italy in walking distance. Cheap Asian resteraunts
Review 64:One of the elevators did not work. We stayed on the 4th floor and the 4-button was broken so we had to get off at another floor and use the stairs to get to our room. The hotel was alright in terms of cleanliness and location, but is expensive for a hotel which does not include breakfast in its rates. The front desk personnel were rather inattentive and rarely greeted us when passing by.
Review 65:Good location. Nice size room
Review 66:Booking.com was supposed to send a confirmation via fax to insure my place and they did not do it. Which was kind of frustrating as I was kept waiting while the clerk called booking….
Review 67:The location outside was not nice. Not enough stores nearby for quick purchase of basic items.
Review 68:It was close to subway stations and a few stops from the shopping district. The staff were responsive and very helpful
Review 69:Facilities a little sparse. Sharing 2 lifts/elevators with a rooftop bar and the cleaners meant some long waits in reception.
Review 70:Very clean, very well appointed contemporary hotel and beautiful views from floor to ceiling windows. Very comfortable.
Review 71:Room was pretty small, with nowhere to put suitcases so hard for two people to move around, but it is NYC
Review 72:Great location, comfortable bed, good bathroom, very clean
Review 73:Some staff wasn't that helpful or even arrogant. This 'four star' hotel lacked a few facilities. I would say it is a good 3 star, rather than a 4 star.
Review 74:The comfort of the room and the bed, the cleanliness, and the location! Right in the heart of Chinatown with multiple subway stations around the corner.
Review 75:I didn't like the shower room without curtain. After shower the washroom became messy.
Review 76:The room is clean and tidy. The hotel place is very convenient to go anywhere.
Review 77:Terrace was a bit of a letdown for premium charge, no chairs or table, just long shared balcony.
Review 78:Staff was accommodating, early check-in, late check-out. Awesome location on Lower East Side/Chinatown. Great for people looking to explore.
Review 79:I booked for family plus one child age 15 years and was promised a room with appropriate beds. What we got was an extremely small room with one - repeat one! queen size bed. After my refusal to move into that room we were offered another very small room with a queen-size bed and an extra bed squeezed in next to the window. Certainly not value for money!!!
Review 80:Location - proximity to subway - friendliness of staff
Review 81:I think that as guests we should not have to pay a cover charge for the roof top bar ($15 or $10 during happy hour) but I understand that it is a different company from the hotel. They would have had our custom if this was not the case.
Review 82:Great fun location. Peaceful gem of a hotel in a crazy buzzy area. Modern and comfortable. Staff were very kind and helpful and upgraded my parents on account of us celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary.
Review 83:Street noise, no black out blinds.
Review 84:Easy check in. Large room, for nyc, with large bathroom and shower. Verycomfy bed. Ventured to the rooftop bar, fine if a little sterile, goodviews though. We stayed there twice in 2 weeks but didn't eat there.Whole foods is only 10 minutes away! Our check out was late but we werepermitted to check out at 2pm and left luggage until 7pm. Good gym, especially for cardio. Area is crazy busy but we loved it! You won'tbe short of food places in Chinatown. Very close to Little Italy whichis lovely, try Amici ii, super food and service. Close to Grand Stsubway(DB line) bit longer to 2 Ave( f). Would stay here again andrecommend.
Review 85:Good location with walking distance to chinatown, Little Italy and subway. Very fast and simple check-in check-out process. Very good wifi. Very comfortable room and bed.
Review 86:The restaurant staff did not turn up in the morning and no breakfast was available. The manager was unapologetic and simply suggested I go onto the street, where incidentally it was raining torrentially.
Review 87:Room was great!
Review 88:When I check in, I found the last customer left food in refrigerator, that means, its not well cleaned. We were extremely unsatisfied and angry with the cleanliness of the refrigerator and the solution of the manager.
Review 89:Room was warm, and took about 5 hours to cool. Halls and elevators very warm! Ice maker broke on 5th floor and had to go to 9th. But was working by end of stay. Shower poor design w/o door and water goes everywhere.
Review 90:Loved the people at front desk. Located very convenient to canal street subway.
Review 91:Bed was a bit too firm for my liking, but that may have been a preference thing. The shower only has half a door with no curtain on it, so water gets everywhere when you shower.
Review 92:Great location. The room was bigger than I had expected. Even on the 3rd floor I wasn't bothered by the noise from the street below. The room was very clean.
Review 93:The showers are badly designed and don't have a door so wet floors are a problem. Also no ramp from entrance to the street makes lugging heavy luggage difficult.
Review 94:Great location in Chinatown. Comfortable rooms. Near subway.
Review 95:Why does every hotel use those heavy duvet comforters? especially in the summer.
Review 96:Modern, up to date, value hotel with friendly staff in a very interesting neighborhood. Near subway lines.
Review 97:Though the hotel and rooms are clean, but the neighboring streets happen to be untidy (my visit was in summer). I would say most streets in Manhattan are untidy.
Review 98:Subway stations are in close proximity, always possible to buy some food in the nearest little private shops. Not far to a marvelous, as for me, restaurant "Veselka", situated in New York City’s East Village. Beautiful Chinese music in a park near the hotel in the midday. Big windows from floor to ceiling with a good view.
Review 99:I booked a double room and requested one high up. The hotel has 16 floors. When we arrived I was given a room on the 4th floor. I questioned this and she said the type of room I had booked only went up to the 6th floor!! I said can I have one on the 6th floor then and she said no they were full. So instead of a great city view we got a horrid view of the run down flats opposite the hotel. In addition the photos online show floor to ceiling windows all round the room. They are floor to ceiling but only on one wall of the room.
Review 100:The room was clean and had toiletries and towels and hot water. Great view in the upstairs rooftop bar.
Review 101:Everybody write about the same: Chinatown is dirty; and shower has no door so the floor is wet everywhere. In addition we had a broken hair dryer, but stuff changed it in few minutes and iron was dirty so we afraid to iron our shirts.
Review 102:Hotel is close to subway. Staff is welcoming and fast. I read reviews before booking and knew about breakfast so we decided so have it somewhere else.
Review 103:You have to like chinatown, which is dirty compared to most other neigbourhoods in NYC. Just like every other hotel on manhattan it is expensive.
Review 104:Very clean and new hotel. Rooms not very big but OK. Metro nearby and restaurants in little italy.
Review 105:Breakfast choices were very limited. bridge made traffic a bit scary
Review 106:Helpful staff Asian restaurant in the building and delivers to room Walking distance to my meeting
Review 107:Roof top bar closed. This was primarily the reason we chose this hotel. It wasn't mentioned in any process during booking that the roof top bar was closed for renovation. Very disappointing.
Review 108:Good location, nice rooms, friendly staff, excellent restaurant.
Review 109:Very clean room and convenient Chinatown/LES location. I was here on business and I definitely enjoyed the stay. The staff were all prompt and friendly. Definitely recommended if you want to stay in Lower Manhattan for a reasonable rate. The breakfast was simple but tasty.
Review 110:Terrific staff and excellent rooms. Much better product than you might expect from a Wyndham property. The bathrooms are clean and pretty, and views on floor 5 and above are superb.
Review 111:Corner room with floor-to-ceiling windows that give you a great view of Manhattan and Brooklyn. Good gym with enough equipment to have a full workout.
Review 112:There was no valet parking.
Review 113:The view, was energetic which I was able to wake up at 6am every morning, this was my choice. The skyline was unbelievable as I took pictures to show my friends & family. The atmosphere was so inviting that I had the time of my life.
Review 114:We were allocated the 16th floor and it is bigger than rooms on other floors with a great view. It's convenient to get to anywhere, and with lots of chinese food options. We had heavy luggages and the boarding point of a lot of bus tours are just a min walk from this hotel. Highly recommended in terms of comfort and convenience.
Review 115:The shower door was only once piece of immovable glass letting water from the shower fall on the floor, leaving puddles of water after every shower
Review 116:The room was nice and clean
Review 117:The room is on a small size and staff are not that friendly, but they were responsive.
Review 118:Location is close to the subway, restaurants, and China town, Little Italy, and So Ho.
Review 119:Well, *if* we had come with lots of luggage, the room would have felt cramped.
Review 120:It's in Chinatown. 2-3 blocks from Little Italy. So many authentic restaurants in the area serving great food and drinks. Clean, new rooms. Friendly, helpful and enthusiastic staff. This is our perfect retreat for our weekend getaways in NYC.
Review 121:Two of the front desk people were totally unfriendly, but that was made up for by the politeness of the others.
Review 122:Loved the location- so central, amazing restaurants in every direction, close to the subway. Our room was wonderfully maintained and clean, and the beds were super comfortable with great pillows and soft, clean linens.
Review 123:Location is really bad unless your are chineese as China Town is dirty and smelly area of NYC. Further this hotel is far from Times Square approximately 3 miles
Review 124:Price, room size better as compared to other NYC hotels and cleanliness
Review 125:Room smelled of cigarette smoke. Climate control didn't work--couldn't get cool air. Shower design makes puddles on the bathroom floor inevitable. Bowery is still pretty creepy to walk on at night.
Review 126:Room was clean, staff seemed okay.
Review 127:No proper shower door/curtain so hard to control. Breakfast not delivered when hung out card, when we took it in the restaurant it was pretty poor quality. There is not much choice for breakfast within 5 minutes walk, you need to go further out of Chinatown and Little Italy to find something.
Review 128:The view from our 11th floor standard room and the fact that it was pretty quiet. Really comfortable bed and by NY standards sufficient space for a basic room. Reception were good and friendly too.
Review 129:the staff; the slamming doors in the hallway; loud voices in hallway, including those of staff; taking $50 off your credit card for up to a week after you leave (is there even a minibar??).
Review 130:location.
Review 131:Not all rooms are spacious or have a view as showed in the hotel photos. Our request (done much in advance before arrival) for an upper floor room was declined during check-in. No bin in the room, bathroom towels need to be renewed. It would also be good to have soft drinks in the minibar at least, it was empty.
Review 132:Location
Review 133:The only shame was that the restaurant at higher floor in the hotel was changing management so was closed at the time but that is not really the hotel's fault. There was still a bar at ground floor and another restaurant at basement.
Review 134:Everything! We stayed at Wyndham Garden Chinatown on our honeymoon and were given a room with access to a fantastic terrace with the best views of New York!!! The room was very nice, bed comfortable with floor to ceiling windows (even in bathroom), staff nice and helpful. There are a couple of metro stations a few minutes away. If you like Chinatown this is a perfect place to stay. We recommend Wyndham Garden Chinatown and hopefully will come back one day.
Review 135:Did not really like the shower stall, as the glass only covers half of the stall; so water can leak out easily. Also the faucet of the shower is a bit hard to manage.
Review 136:Front desk staff Massy was very helpful. We traveled in a group of 9 and arrived at around 1 pm & Massy was able to check us in early. The day we were leaving, Massy also let us stayed one hour longer than the regular check out time. He also helped us to get the cab to the airport. Location is great, metro station (Grant St) is just a few minutes walk. Hotel is close to Chinatown and Little Italy, so lots of restaurants within walking distance. Bedding is good & room is clean and modern.
The Fine Print
