Reviews for Anchorage Grand Hotel
Review 1:The staff were very friendly and helped us with everything we needed. So amazing we arrived at 6am and they let us leave our bags with them and also gave us a early check in, they also looked after our luggage/ski bag as we traveled on an overnight train trip, close to everything, totally recommend
Review 2:If we didn't already know it we were soon reminded that there is a train station nearby. Why on earth do the drivers have to press the horn repeatedly like an impatient motorist? It was a recurring theme as if something or someone was persistently annoying them. The wifi worked ok downstairs but not very well in our room.
Review 3:The rooms were spacious and comfortable. It has quite a good kitchen and a separate bedroom. The place is not exactly new but has a certain mature comfortable feeling about it. The staff are friendly and helpful.
Review 4:Noisy heater. Bathroom door is not mounted properly, makes the room difficult to use.
Review 5:Rooms are huge. Great kitchen. Nice windows, light and views. Very near train station. Clean and comfortable. Tons of amenities.
Review 6:That there wasn't a working lift to the ground floor, we had to drag our bags down two flights of stairs
Review 7:The location of the accommodation, I also enjoyed the breakfast given to us each morning
Review 8:The wifi didn't work but after many requests to reset it, the receptionist gave us a data cord. The hotel really needs a facelift. It is old & dingy & in serious need of refurbishment. It is also across the street from the railroad station and the trains run all night and there is much tooting.
Review 9:The receptionist was gelpful
Review 10:Very close to train station. Train whistle can wake you up as early as 5 AM if your window is open.
Review 11:Very close to downtown area and train. Free parking. Good breakfast which was delivered to your door. Complimentary local paper.
Review 12:No bad experience.
Review 13:Spacious rooms, had one for 2 of us and another one for son, his wife and 4 year old son. Expected some possible problems with train noise, but none of us experienced any problems.
Review 14:Fun to watch the trains going in and out of the Alaska Railroad Station across the street....as long as you don't mind the train whistle starting about 0630 and stopping about 2230. (Summer)
Review 15:Old school, but very comfortable. Very nice staff. Great location.
Review 16:Breakfast was pretty boring - granola bar, bagel with cream cheese, instant oatmeal and juice. There was train noise in my room which faced the yard, away from the street.
Review 17:Location was easy walking distance from everything in downtown. Staff provided breakfast two hours early when I requested it. The suite was quite comfortable.
Review 18:The train noise kept us awake the whole night. Extremely loud train horns all night. Do not stay, you will not sleep, worst sleep in a month traveling
Review 19:Likes the large room, comfortable bed
Review 20:At best, the room was worth half the price. Hope they "refresh" the place during winter. Warning - there is an elevator but you have to go down stairs to get to it - not easy when you have several pieces of luggage.
Review 21:Loved the convenience to downtown. Easy to find when driving from airport
Review 22:Continental breakfast was nothing to write home about and wifi did not work in one of the suites. Pretty expensive for the value though..
Review 23:Great location and decent sized rooms (we had a suite which was great for larger groups and families)
Review 24:We stayed here for a bike race. While the parking was a little limited the staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and very spacious, we were able to sleep 4 adults and a kid with room for all our bikes and gear.
Review 25:Disappointed in the breakfast. Desk person described it as packaged oatmeal (that you could heat in the room microwave), or a bagel and cream cheese. In the morning, we saw plastic bags at other doors which I assumed contained the breakfast ingredients. We didn't opt for the breakfast due to the description, so I can't give it a first hand review, but the description was a negative.
Review 26:Room was well equipped for a longer stay, like an efficiency apartment. Kitchen was very adequate (but we did not need to use it).
Review 27:No air conditioner. Not your fault, but the close proximity to the train station made it difficult to sleep with the engine horns sounding all night long.
Review 28:Staff was pleasant and helpful.
Review 29:Too many trains passing by. At night, this did disturb our sleep. it was too warm to close windows, otherwise might have been better.
Review 30:located on walking distance of restaurants, shops, musea.
Review 31:The front desk in the morning shift was rude. We checked in at 2 am after 30 hours flight from Thailand. We booked and paid for 3 - person room, but the room and amentity we got was for 2 persons. We needed to ask for the change and everything. During checking out, the way reception staff pushed us out of the room by the check out time, was not nice and unprofessional. We were dissapointed and upset.
Review 32:Location was close to main street downtown area. The bed was comfy.
Review 33:Location uphill with no shuttle. Step up to hotel (no ramp) and many stairs down to lobby ridiculous with luggage. Smaller than queen size bed. No air conditioning. Offers kitchenette with no grocery shop nearby! Poor breakfast, no orange juice. No grab-bar nor bath mat in bath-elderly people need that! And no help from staff.
Review 34:Nice suite in terms of layout, quiet except for trains.
Review 35:Very very close to the train station and tracks. This does not reflect on the quality of the hotel. Just be ready. Especially if you like open windows.
Review 36:Good value, edge of downtown. Clean with friendly staff.
Review 37:Very loud at night due to nearby railroad station. Expensive. Could do with an update in interior design.
Review 38:Big rooms, central location, good facilities, friendly staff.
Review 39:Breakfast was left outside your apartment, which was okay, but it was rather basic, considering the cost of the room.
Review 40:Large apartment style accommodation, useful for making drinks or snacks during the day. We enjoyed watching the trains from our window.
Review 41:Unfortunately, because of the nearness to the train station, it was noisy in the morning.
Review 42:Walking distance to shopping, restaurants, and other tourist attractions. The young lady at the front desk when we arrived could not have been more helpful.
Review 43:They give you bagels, but the room's toasters weren't wide enough for bagels and they easily burnt and set off the smoke detectors (our room and the room next to us both did it once).
Review 44:We took the train to Anchorage and the hotel was just a short walk away. Clean and comfortable. Nice size rooms. Fresh cookies in the hotel office in the evening were a nice treat! The included breakfast was a bag left at your door in the AM with a box of juice, bagel, bowl of microwave oatmeal and granola bars. A jelly pack in for the bagel would have been a useful addition. Location is at the edge of town, but we were able to walk to most of the places we wanted to go (we did not have a car)
Review 45:Trains were a bit noisy late at night.
Review 46:Really helpful, friendly staff, and free apples and cookies in reception. Next to railway station very useful for our trip.
Review 47:Seemed a litle old fashioned and fusty; staff on check-in didn't seem to know what to do with our Booking.com booking and made a mistake.
Review 48:Value for money; large room
Review 49:Continental breakfast could have been better--adding fruit and a muffin. Had to walk down 6-8 stairs to get to the lobby and an elevator. Not easy for someone who is disabled.
Review 50:Convenience to Alaska Rail Station and breakfast delivered to room.
Review 51:It is a commercial b&b with an office downstairs, no lobby. The breakfasts are delivered at the door in a plastic bag and consists of pre packaged foods. Pretty bad!
Review 52:Close to the commercial center and nicely appointed.
Review 53:The storage below the TV in the living room was not cleaned out from previous guest, staff was very pleasant and offered to change rooms for us, we declined the offer and they took care of the issue immediately.
Review 54:The suite was nice lay out, and the bed was comfortable.
Review 55:Full kitchenette but no pots, and few cutlery, plates and/or bowls reduces its usefulness. The bed follows the American standard, very soft and terrible for the back. The sofa is even softer. Vending machines were not working.
Review 56:Great location. Some rooms have nice views of the mountains, the others see the rail station. Several options of restaurants and shopping in walking distance, and next to the train station, which pleases some, the ease of access to rail and displeases others, because of whistle noise. But can you imagine an Alaska Railroad train without a loud whistle? We stayed in a spacious room with a full kitchenette but no pots, which reduces its usefulness. The bed follows the American standard, very soft and terrible for the back. The sofa is even softer. The staff was always very attentive and helpful, even when you check in at 01:00 am, as we did, but the vending machines were not working. Continental breakfast distributed in bags to the guests is practical. Overall, we would stay there again.
Review 57:breakfast was not delivered first morning, there is no business center but the hotel charges as much as the Captain Cook hotel, the taxi access is difficult
Review 58:The rooms were quiet, employees were friendly
Review 59:Everything was excellent. We cook our own food, saved us restaurant money. It was quiet, and it was good to have continental breakfasts every morning.
Review 60:Old fashioned and tired décor. Breakfast was in a plastic bag hanging outside the door. Inside a bagel, cream cheese and sugary bars. So stock up the night before and do your own breakfast.
Review 61:Walking distance from town. Spacious bedroom, lounge and kitchen with full cooker.
Review 62:Noisy as close to Alaska Railway.
Review 63:Friendly and helpful staff. Fast wifi. Excellent kitchen facility. Clean and comfortable room. Walking distance to Anchorage downtown. Exceptionally well maintained hotel.
Review 64:For self catering, no local shops - requires car to get to shopping centre. Unfortunately, location close to train yards means that train horns continue intermittently during the night (not impossible to sleep).
Review 65:Lots of space - living area and kitchen Breakfast included Free fruit and biscuits at front desk Very friendly staff Close to downtown shops Close to train station - train ride to join cruise ship was pleasant way to get there. Laundry onsite.
Review 66:A bit noisy as near to train station
Review 67:The location - very near to the shopping area The room - big, clean and with kitchen Breakfast included Wifi included
Review 68:Train whistles early in the morning from the station close by. No kettle for tea.
Review 69:Although the decor is dated and certainly not up-market, it was in excellent condition and clean as a whistle. Only 100 yards from the Hilton at a fraction of the price. The kitchen facilities were great. Staff were very helpful with dining and sightseeing suggestions.
Review 70:No personal touch.one ordered breakfast on a card outside room door and in the morning a plastic bag containing breakfast is hanging on door Reception is just a side room not always open.
Review 71:Quiet
Review 72:Expensive - we paid less for a better quality hotel throughout USA and Canada No milk for tea/coffee making provided Very noisy at night as trains / lorries constantly sounding horns where road crosses railtracks. For this reason alone I would stay elsewhere.
Review 73:Large suite so if we had been staying longer we could have done some self catering (if we felt inclined!)
Review 74:Location was near the train depot and you could hear the trains come through. Entrance is a half flight of steps to the elevator.
Review 75:It is within walking distance of downtown. The amenities were good.
Review 76:Bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper as this hotel is close to the train station - expect to hear train whistles rather early in the morning!
Review 77:Great location close to the city centre, the coastal footpath and the railway station. Friendly and helpful staff. Excellent, comfy, clean and spacious rooms with mini kitchen.
Review 78:It's close to the train station so you'll hear train whistles occasionally but it wasn't that bad.
Review 79:The suite was very nice. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Room was clean and fresh smelling. Just a couple blocks from the downtown area and there was a small weekend fair going on.
Review 80:Noise from the train's horns as they leave in the morning for Denali etc and return in the evening. However this is between 6 & 9am and 8 & 10pm, the rest of the night is quiet.
Review 81:Convenience to station, restaurants and town centre.
Review 82:Very noisy in the evening as trains repeatedly blew their whistles very loudly all through the night....each train gave at least 8 whistle blasts and this happened about every 20 minutes (or seemed that way) Also debited my credit card for a cleaning fee "just in case" without advising me ....uncertain whether this has been refunded yet as room was left as we found it
Review 83:Good amenities Welcoming staff
Review 84:Because the hotel is located so close to the railway lines, I found the sound of the train whistles very loud. It interfered with a restful sleep.
Review 85:Proximity to the airport.
Review 86:no airport transport. Charged more than the Booking.com quote. Our credit card was charged on check in not on check out as expected. So receptionist could not change the amount charged. Noisy at night.
Review 87:close to the train station. Fantastic reception staff member when we arrived. Freshly baked biscuits available at reception.
Review 88:Since it was rather hot and the train station is right behind the hotel you had to leave your windows open and hear a very loud train. Pretty annoying!
Review 89:The staff were all very nice and helpful and the rooms were very clean.
Review 90:not the newest, most modern place but warm, comfortable, clean and good facilities. even better lots of space - my room was a three room suite - and friendly. Helpful staff
Review 91:The neighborhood was close to many tourist shops, a mall and a nice walking/biking trail. It was a couple of miles to a real pharmacy and grocery store.
Review 92:The room had a kitchenette and pullout sofa that made it vey comfortable for 4 people.
Review 93:Nothing
Review 94:I loved the apartment type style with separate bedroom, kitchen area and lounge. Breakfast delivered to your room so no awkward solo dining. Huge fan for cooling, rather than traditional AC. The decor is a bit dated but that doesn't detract from the cleanliness and comfort of this great room
Review 95:nothing in the hotel, just that anchorage has no food shops in the centre for us to buy to use the facilities.
Review 96:Closeness to centre of city. Easy and safe access to restaurants which if you are careful are superb. Easy access to transport rail and coaches. Grand view.
Review 97:We had rooms on the fourth floor and had to navigate short stairs internally with luggage but there was no porter to help with the luggage.
Review 98:Location was great
Review 99:The wifi signal is weak.
Review 100:The location is near to train station and walking distance to downtown.
Review 101:Excellent location, spacious and comfortable, quiet, great staff.
Review 102:The parking is around the corner
Review 103:Free breakfast
Review 104:Close to downtown! Within walking of train station and Ulu Museum and others!
Review 105:train noise was loader than expected
Review 106:size of rooms
Review 107:Very friendly and helpful staff. No charge for parking. Small hotel, large suite.
Review 108:close to train station and complimentary breakfast bag at our door at 4:30 am!
Review 109:Lobby / Elevator setup was a little confusing. Main entrance looked like a side entrance
Review 110:Proximity to rail depot
Review 111:Location to train station, apples and cookies at front counter.
Review 112:Late check in was a challenge, we stood outside for several minutes before before we were let in.
Review 113:The bed was comfortable
Review 114:Bed too soft, room had very strong odor from cleaning products.
Review 115:Staff were exceptional, location was good.
Review 116:It was okay overall
Review 117:Its location to the AK Train Depot
Review 118:Located within walking distance of downtown.
Review 119:It was warm, but a little noisy with windows open. Maybe a fan since no AC
Review 120:Near downtown and train
Review 121:Using stairs lugging the heavy suitcases
Review 122:close to train station
Review 123:Train Noise So called breakfast
Review 124:Good bed and facilities. Value for money
Review 125:The location and the size of the rooms were great
Review 126:Great location - close to railway station and tourist strip
Review 127:It's a one bedroom apartment with a full kitchen, walking distance to downtown but with a residential neighborhood feel.
Review 128:noise from train station
Review 129:Fixed breakfast menu. Better than nothing, but no choices.
Review 130:Clean rooms, perfectly located, close to center of the city.
Review 131:Close to railway
Review 132:old style
Review 133:location to station & weekend market
