Reviews for The Hotel Captain Cook

Review 1:Only one thing, the wine selection served at the happy hour needed to be improved..

Review 2:I stayed in a club room....just perfect...the lounge had a great view, which was very special. The happy hour was great.

Review 3:Do not pay extra for breakfast. The breakfast was awful. Poor selection of food available. The breakfast is not made to order. The breakfast is made before 6am and left out for the duration of the breakfast period (6am-9am).

Review 4:The location of this hotel is great for walking everywhere downtown. The views from my room on the 16th floor was breathtaking. I would highly recommend staying on the 16th or 17th floor in tower 2.

Review 5:The room was large and clean we had a beautiful view of the inlet and ate breakfast at the cafe downstairs, the food was wonderful and the price was great.

Review 6:They lock the doors to tower 3 at night, for a good reason. It would have been nice to know that.

Review 7:It was a great room. With a beautiful view of the Cook inlet. We stayed in the crows nest suite. 1 1/2 baths, a bar, a table that seats 8. Really spacious and spectacular room.

Review 8:I didn't like that u had to pay for parking(but it is downtown, what do it expect)

Review 9:This hotel far exceeded our needs we did want for anything during our stay....excellent!.... Also liked that it was close to everything(we walked to 2 or our food reservations)

Review 10:Everything I needed was right there at the hotel, so it was very convenient! Moreover, the staff is exceptional in their delivering consistantly high quality service.

Review 11:I have been travelling to Anchorage for 20 years and stay at the Captain Cook as often as possible. It is a classic beauty with wonderful artworks! Friendly people, excellent food, wine, comfort and service, well kept up to date. I always feel happy there.

Review 12:You did not get the value for your money. To pay $20 for parking is ridiculous. Other hotels did not charge you for parking, such as The Sheraton. Nor were we offered a newspaper in the morning while other guest received them. Nor were my husband and I able to work out together as the fitness centers were segregated.

Review 13:The rooms were very nice, clean and comfortable. The staff was very friendly.

Review 14:The location is very convenient to downtown activities. The rooms are spacious and very accommodating. The views are spectacular. The hotel though dated is very well cared for.

Review 15:It rained, how inconvenient, had to remain indoors with plenty of choices to keep us amused fed and watered, a very agreeable choice of accommodation.

Review 16:We were located in CD 4 on the 17th floor just few days after President Obama had visited and we felt just as special.

Review 17:Parking is a little spendy

Review 18:They had live music and an art show the day we checked in.Didn't get the high floor as requested but our suit was excellent and surprisingly quiet for being close to the elevators and being on a lower floor facing fourth ave.

Review 19:The hotel is quite big, so there are few entrances, and some strange guy could easily get in the hotel.

Review 20:The location is really great. Also there are many stores in the hotel, it's very conscience to tourist,

Review 21:i was on the 3rd floor with a parking light right outside my window when i was expected to be on a higher floor with a view?...

Review 22:location, people were nice.

Review 23:This hotel needs better parking! It's ridiculous downtown and to have to pay $16 to park it's cool. Half of that would be better. I also didn't like the fact that the water took a while to drain in the middle of my shower.

Review 24:I love the view from my room on the 14th floor! I loved my bed and the blankets. I love that the window opened enough for fresh air to circulate.

Review 25:I didn't like leaving the hotel or Alaska.

Review 26:The captain cook was central for all of our excursions. All of the associates were pleasant to speak with. The location was perfect location we had a lovely view in our room. Concierge very helpful n polite.the paintings of capt cook and excursion were remarkablt

Review 27:Check in was messed up. The suite does not have a door to seperate us from the kids,on line it said it did,had to book another room! Room carpet was all stained on our second visit we DID NOT get a suite and it was cleaner but there was a dirty towel in bathroom from previous guest. Contruction workers started at 6:30!

Review 28:Location to the airport and train was very good. Staff was very nice during the stay.

Review 29:below was not comfortable. no breakfast included in the price.

Review 30:location is central, close to the airport, close to the city centre, everything is within walking distance.

Review 31:The only bad thing about this place is its a bit expensive- but it's always full so I guess that's what demand does

Review 32:The family run, friendly vibe of this Hotel makes it a shinning light in a town full of mediocre Hotels.

Review 33:The room was disheveled: lamp shades were knocked over, the tv cabinet was sticking out about a foot from the wall on one side, and the hotel was nothing fancy. Definitely not worth the money. I will not be staying there again.

Review 34:The staff was very friendly, the room was clean, and the location was perfect for our stay.

Review 35:The path, downstairs, to the health club was unmarked , depressing, and off-putting.

Review 36:The Red Trolley (tours) tops at this hotel. If one restaurant is closed in one wing, then the other is open in the other wing. There is a beautiful restaurant upstairs The gift shops are numerous in the halls but my favorite place to shop was in the general souvenir shop. It's prices and variety of Alaskan and Native American products matched the shops in museums. The Alaskan yoyo and flip flops were my winners.

Review 37:tv didn't work correctly and for 300 per night it should have. I could have stayed at the econolodge and had a better experience. wlking across the entire hjotel to get to the pool sucked, and different entrances from across the hotel for male and female was really weird

Review 38:They have free wi-fi, but no wired network or security whatsoever, so use at your own risk. The reefer whined so loudly I had to unplug it during the night and the leftovers spoiled. The Keurig cups were spare and the newspaper never made it to the door. And let's face it, this hotel is stunningly ugly, at least on the outside. The interior however is quite pretty and soft with interesting artwork and lithographs, and we liked both rooms (one a junior suite) in which we landed. I'm not sure where else I'd stay downtown, certainly not the Hilton (too stinky) or the Sheraton (too far). Maybe I'll give the Marriott a block away a try since it's fairly new. But overall the Captain Cook is fun, with a bit of the aging lady quality that I like. And oh yeah, the Hinckles must be hanging in thee with Walt's party since the television doesn't receive CNBC or Bloomberg, only "Pravda" (Fox News).

Review 39:The food was decent and fairly priced in the restaurants. Staff was kind and efficient and the location is great, close to restaurants, coffee bars, parks, parking, and across from the sole liquor store in downtown.

Review 40:The location is great, well within walking distance of the railway station unless you have heavy luggage in which case it is about a $10 cab ride. The staff were really friendly and the room was very clean. We enjoyed the atmosphere of the grand old building which I think turns 50 this year.

Review 41:20 Dollar for one night in the public parkhouse in a city like anchorage seems a bit expansive.

Review 42:Spacious and clean rooms, great views, very friendly staff, variety of breakfast meals and the fantastic lounge in the 20th floor.

Review 43:I got my key card and walked a long ways to the elevator went up to the room and there were bags in the room already, They explained they were dropped in the wrong room and fixed the issue. I went out and got in after midnight and they had already changed my key card so I couldn't get in my room so I had to go 1/2 mile to the front desk again which should be in the center of the building but they like to make everyone walk past their 20 gift shops before getting to the elevators. Also the refrigerator makes a loud bang every time it kicks on waking you up 10 times a night.

Review 44:The beds were nice

Review 45:The fact it is old, so is the staff which makes them take the guests for granted. They are extremely nonchalant and apathetic. I think they all forgot how competitive hospitality has become now because it felt like being in a hotel of the 80s

Review 46:The place itself is the best/most descent hotel in town

Review 47:Bad that the Wi-Fi is not password protected. Always bothers me that the bathrooms are not on main floor - when I attend meetings/conferences.

Review 48:Had a problem that required maintenance. The gentleman was very quick to respond and very nice. All staff encountered were friendly and helpful.

Review 49:Billed as a "King Suite" on the Captain's Deck, the bed was half the size of a king bed, the thermostat didn't work so, true to the to the name of the hotel, we "cooked" all night. Very disappointing; clearly not what I expected for the amount paid. Wouldn't recommend or stay again.

Review 50:It is located close to our home, which is what we needed for one night.

Review 51:The overall cost was a bit high for what was offered. Even taking into account we were in alaska, the cap cook isn't what it used to be.

Review 52:The room was what I need. I am in a wheelchair and there was enough room to maneuver. However the shower controls and hand shower head was older and not working as should have

Review 53:Lack of concierge per staff statement"for a long while". Lack of staff to deliver room service all three mornings I had to wait more than 20 minutes just to place the order. Restaurant on the 20-th floor has the most unfriendly hostess I ever met!

Review 54:Location!

Review 55:The WiFi was terrible, had to keep going to the lobby to download and the Restaurant "Fletchers" was horrible. Expensive, Poorly cooked, long wait inattentive staff. Dont go there.

Review 56:The staff at the hotel is great- they helped out anytime we needed directions, any services, and general information about the city. Beds were great, halfway between soft and hard, snuggly comforters, and a good solid roll away for our 15 yr old son. The workout area is fantastic!

Review 57:When we walked in it was 74 deg. open window turn t-stat down to 60 deg. The room smelled of cigarette smoke like it was coming from the air duct. When we checked out the next day window still open heater set at 60 deg. and it was 75 deg.

Review 58:Staff not friendly.

Review 59:The room was 71 night and day. The maid called and I called the front desk . The heat was never reduced. The window opened , and I opened it. Not an costeffective way to reduce the heat.

Review 60:The resturant view was beautiful and the food couldn't have been better

Review 61:The only thing that would have been better was a stocked mini bar

Review 62:The hotel was amazing, from the great staff, to all the restaurants and shops right in the hotel.

Review 63:The fax machine was down so I asked the front office to fax for me, the clerk sent me to the concierge who then try to send me back to the front, I left my paperwork at the desk of the concierge who instructed me that he would fax, later I came back down to the concierge my paperwork was face up in at the front of the dest with all my personal information displayed, I was very displeased

Review 64:I like the location of the Hotel, the staff can work on their attitudes

Review 65:Fidge didn't work, our Olive Garden food went bad! Room next to us was the sprinkler room, was very scary & loud! Not happy due to remodel that the pool wasn't convient to get to.

Review 66:Room was nice and bed was cozy.

Review 67:Concierge was not as friendly or helpful as rest of staff.

Review 68:This hotel combined the warmth of an historical hotel with modern conveniences and up to date decor. My room had a great view of downtown against a backdrop of snow covered mountains. I found the staff to be polite and helpful. Wonderful restaurants within easy walking distance. The hotel itself has a variety of good restaurants and shops. I hope to stay here again.

Review 69:All the loud Americans who were waiting to have breakfast at the only open breakfast rester aunt in the Hotel .

Review 70:I had flown from Barter Island and was at risk of missing my cruise connection due to poor weather. I arrived and no delay in arriving to my room.I was so tired and fell asleep immediately. I didn't even have tea . the desk staff and bag porter were excellent with service and a hot chocolate was delivered to my room Excellent!!!!

Review 71:Poor soundproofing of my Captain's Deck 16th floor premium room (kept awake by activity in neighbouring room 2-4am; drunk shouting in the street 3am). Photo of Captain's Deck room on hotel website is a corner room (windows on two sides), which most rooms are not. Overpriced for those who have no need of athletic club, swimming pool, etc. No single-traveller discount. One poor night's sleep cost me $220. Not possible to ascend from 16th floor bedroom to private breakfast room on 17th floor by stairs, hence wait for elevator.

Review 72:Superb views. Nice doorman. Great service in Fletcher's restaurant.

Review 73:No kettle in room, only coffee pod machine. You just didn't put the pod in if you wanted a cup of tea. But this gave a coffee taste to the tea and the milk was only dry coffee mate. YUK :-( At least they had a cafe down stairs if you wanted a proper cuppa. But that's a nuisance in they morning.

Review 74:Free Wifi

Review 75:We booked a junior suite because of the view to the Mountains or the Cook Inlet, but at the 2nd floor we have seen nothing of it. Instead, we had the noise from the street

Review 76:It is expensive in summer season.

Review 77:This is very good location near a rental car company, a convenience store, liquor store and cafes. Most of tours pick up guests in this hotel. The male staff changed the room for my request. I enjoyed seeing sunset over the sea from my room.

Review 78:Staff was rude.. told me they were "out" of coffee when I asked for another packet for the room. Our room was next to Elevator and kept us up all night. Called mgr asked for a different room, they said no, we are booked. I booked 4 months ahead of time and I got the worse room in the building??

Review 79:Beautiful room

Review 80:There are several 'towers' in this hotel so it took a. It to find our way around.

Review 81:Loved walking to everything. Several in hotel restaurants, bars and stores. Great spa, best massage we have EVER had!!!! Historic photos and data throughout. Attractive wood work and architecture. Beautiful views, quiet, killer comfortable bed, nice sheets. Overall highly recommend. Other name brand hotels didn't offer anything close to this special treasure. They were in busy noisy areas and the same old thing.

Review 82:Pool to many kids!also I booked two rooms well in advance but was told I had to pay extra to be on the same floor as my son in law and grandson. Why?

Review 83:restaurants-friendly bellhops

Review 84:Could not get into room until later in the afternoon after arriving early from a cruise. Understandable. Perhaps an early arriving lounging area specifically located for arriving cruise passengers. Also, a lot of the outbound planes leave around midnight, so a lounge area for lingering guests would also be a nice touch.

Review 85:Location, amenities, friendly staff, nice room with a view, easy walk to downtown Anchorage. Good value.

Review 86:No problems

Review 87:Great location We arrived earlier than regular check in time and our room was ready. We only stayed one night but would have enjoyed a longer stay.

Review 88:The price for what the room was. The service at the WhaleTail was non existent.

Review 89:The desk staff, as always, was amazing. I like that there were water bottles in the rooms which was really nice. We always brought in our own water in the past.

Review 90:The lobby was very nice, the view from the room was excellent, the staff were very friendly and helpful as one would expect at a high-end hotel in a major city. We did not eat at the restaurants there but I suspect they would also be very good.

Review 91:At $250/night I expect to have a 2 ply toilet paper and more than 2 towels on a king sized room with 2 people in it. I requested additional towels which never arrived. We requested wine glasses as well and room service would tell us to call housekeeping for that and then housekeeping would tell us to call room service, this went on for a while. Water in the lobby was almost always empty.

Review 92:Great location.

Review 93:Check person was not so helpful and below standard Weird that men and woman have separate facilities for much of their working out. Not great for couples who work out. Ended up not using facilities

Review 94:Bellman, Concerige and food staff for breakfast, formal dinner and bar staff all very good Great room with great view Good location for walking and good access to costal trail for very nice ride

Review 95:Parking not explained. Athletic club closes too early. Didn't get a king bed as promised. Room too small.

Review 96:Food beverages in lounge.

Review 97:Excellent staff and support. Great convenience.

Review 98:Drain in the tub was slow.

Review 99:The bar was nice and lively.

Review 100:Staff was friendly and helpful. Room was comfortable. On-site restaurants and bars are excellent.

Review 104:Out dated everything- bed was not comfortable at all

Review 120:Helpful staff, good location, clean, comfortable rooms.

Review 121:Nice room nice staff

Review 122:Rstaurants y spa excelentes

Review 123:Parking, no place to park and you would have to over pay for overnight parking

Review 124:The room space!

Review 125:Parking is an extra $20/day

Review 126:The room view layout

Review 127:luxery hotel, nice atmosphere, great location to go to down town , friendly and profecional staff

Review 128:Hotel is very dated. In need of some renovation. Expensive. Obama was staying there so security was a pain.
