Reviews for Anchorage Downtown Hotel

Review 1:bed uncomfortable, carpets need replacing, very stained. coffee maker but no coffee No daily maid service walls were thin

Review 2:Good location, quiet street Showers were good refrigerator good TV

Review 3:I didn't expect it to be super nice because we only paid 70$ for the night but it was way worse than I thought. The room had a terrible smell that lingered on your clothes after you left the building. It definetely was not clean, especially the bathroom. My husband and I really wanted to leave but were being thrifty and ended up staying, sleeping on top of the sheets and leaving as early as we could check out the next day. I will never stay there again. It's worth it to pay the extra money for a clean place you could at least feel comfortable sleeping in the bed and taking a shower in.

Review 4:The location in downtown was great, and the building looks nice from the outside.

Review 5:Customers was very bad. There's nothing to drink what I meant was no vending machine until someone at the desk. The lady was always have this attitude in her face which I didn't like.very bad customers service. Never again I'm goings to rent out that hotel again.

Review 6:I was immediately put off by the hotel during check in, when I was asked to check off and initial a survey concerning expected behaviors during my stay. Both the survey and the tone it was explained in were condescending in nature. I am a mature 55 year old woman... enough said! Dragging my suitcase up three flights of stairs was unexpected, but necessary due to the fact that there was no elevator. Next, my room reeked! Upon opening my door I was quite dismayed by the nondescript odor! Lastly, while this hotel in close to downtown, I was not able to walk to dinner or shopping~ T

Review 7:I liked that breakfast was included, along with an iron and ironing board. The front desk person in the morning was very pleasant.

Review 8:Room was very cold , brought in two heaters. Then during the night the floor heaters came on without us knowing it and then it got to hot. We shut both heaters off but always had to open and window to cool it down. Our neighbor told us his room was to hot too. Plus the tenets were loud.

Review 9:Interior rooms are very warm. Hard to cool down. And it was only 50 degrees outside. Bed is too firm. Pillows are ridiculous "pancakes."

Review 10:Charming, vintage Alaska appearance. Staff is pleasant.

Review 11:No lift to 3 floor so my husband had to carry suitcases to our room as no help was available. Breakfast . not much left by the time we got their and then we had to eat it in the reception area . WiFi would not work in our room.

Review 12:The room was suitable for 1 night stay. The pick up from the airport was helpful and staff nice.

Review 13:our room was a little on the small side for all our luggage. Also carting luggage up and down stairs was difficult. Setup of our room could have been different to utilise space better.

Review 14:The staff were fantastic and very helpful. I liked the location, anchorage is so easy to get around it was never any trouble just walking.

Review 15:Check in was totally botched, had been very explicit that Jan would be arriving forest and they needed to use my credit card. Instead the desk clerk demanded payment from Jan or another member of our party.

Review 16:Location, all the empty lot next door and poor lighting on the street made me uncomfortable about walking alone

Review 17:Room was very warm (no aircon) and only window in room opened onto main walkway.

Review 18:Staff were excellent and very helpful to all travellers staying there. Printing available for online booking vouchers

Review 19:Definitely on the smaller side. Pictures on website made the hotel look much newer than the true experience and hid the lack of space in the rooms.

Review 20:It was a bed to get some sleep on in a decent location for a quick stay in Anchorage.

Review 21:There was no elevator and I had a suitcase weighing about 50#s. Our room did not have air conditioning or an outside window. It was extremely hot and uncomfortable! The galley kitchen could barely accommodate one person at A time.

Review 22:The staff was very helpful and friendly.

Review 23:The price for the value. It just wasn't worth it except for convenience. The beds were well used, the pillows awful, the carpet scary - would not walk around w/o shoes. Thin walls; luggage on stairs very noisy as were the people above us.

Review 24:We liked the location, convenient for us. Quite truthfully we booked it because we had to have overnight lodging in Anchorage that was affordable, but this time of year, nothing is affordable for locals and the shabbiest hotels can charge the most outrageous prices.

Review 25:Control over room temperatures only at a floor or building level, not room. No seat/chair in room, only bed to sit on.

Review 26:Open all hours. Staff very friendly. Everything worked !

Review 27:The decode was very dated. Our window overlooked a passage, not outside.

Review 28:It was cool and quiet with a good breakfast. It was good to have an iron and microwave in the room.

Review 29:Basement level, not very clean. We arrived on a late flight to Anchorage and the front desk clerk waited for us which was nice. We went looking for vending machines and found them...not very well stocked but the shocker was the wiring for the hotel was completely exposed in the anointing room. It looked like Donald Duck had been hired to wire it. I have never seen a more dangerous conglomeration of wires in my life. A fire hazard waiting to happen.

Review 30:The bed was very comfortable and the front desk clerk waited for arrival at 12:10 am.

Review 31:No lampshade!? No chair!!? Hot room on 3rd floor. Bed just ok vacuumthose fans!! Plug in the microwave oven? Crimminee!

Review 32:Great shower! Staff pleasant & accommodating with luggage storagebefore & after check in & out and Airport shuttlevan.Continental breakfast ok. Quiet

Review 33:We did have to take a taxi to reach the downtown area, as it would have been a long walk to reach this area otherwise.

Review 34:This hotel was much more like a B&B than your usual hotel. We enjoyed this, but some people might find the artwork and decorations off-putting. Again, my husband and I loved the atmosphere!

Review 35:They have a no smoking policy but the room smelled like smoke. The windows did not work and they had no air, and the overall condition of the hotel was dirty and dingy. My advice is to find another hotel.

Review 36:My experience here was good after the initial shock of the discrepancy between the internet pictures & the actual appearance of the hotel. ADH is an old, small, three story building with no elevator. It is not a modern high rise.

Review 37:Large TV & wi-fi worked great.

Review 38:Weird 'basement like room half below street/parking lot level, ratty carpet, smell of mildew, old and gnarly, hard bed, not very clean.

Review 39:Came and picked us up from the airport, very nice evening staff person.

Review 40:Very ordinary hotel. Breakfast could have been much better. Location was a fair way from any restaurants or activities.

Review 41:Some of the staff were helpful and friendly. The beds were comfortable.

Review 42:Horrible musty smell to bedroom. Reception and breakfast facilities in sub-basement. Flyscreen hanging off, an obvious long term situation. Curtains difficult to close and even more so when sticky tape holding curtain rail gave way. No tissues in room and advised out of them but we may be be able to get them in convenience store up the road. Not cheap! Far better available in city at same or less.

Review 43:free shuttle to escape to airport.

Review 44:The room smelt mouldy. We found the bathroom sink leaking. We were not offered an alternate room. Even with fans and windows open the smell was there. Even though we reported the issue on checkin it was still unfixed on checkout two days later.

Review 45:Great friendly staff at reception but maintenance not up to expected. Good central location. Easy to park. Solid breakfast.

Review 46:the room was poor. The only window was broken so that it couldn't close and looked like it had been broken for years. No plugs for either the bath or bathroom sink. The refrigerator was on the carpeted floor and it was a struggle to open the door against the carpet. The mattress on the bed felt old and tired. The pillows were thick and uncomfortable. Exceedingly small bathroom.

Review 47:the staff were pretty good

Review 48:No lift and no air conditioning. Only window in room opened onto a public corridor.

Review 49:Friendliness of staff. Convenient to downtown. Shuttle service to airport.

Review 50:Does not look like alot from the outside but has been recently remodeled inside. Would definitly stay here again. Staff was helpful and rooms were clean and comfortable.

Review 51:There was no duvet on the bed only a sheet and cover. I had to ask for a duvet. The room smelt as though someone had been smoking. The outlook from the room was a parking space for road building vehicles and these started work during the early and late evening.

Review 52:The free courtesy bus to the airport.

Review 53:There's bed bugs at this place and the manager does absolutely nothing to compensate and staff extremely rude.i have bits on my face, my ears, fingers, legs. They hurt so bad and nothing can be done about it.!:(

Review 54:The price but you get what you pay for:(

Review 55:Room was small and they had just had winter pipes frozen, so were still getting the plumbing, water, and heat to work properly. No fruit for several days.

Review 56:Location was great. Nice artwork. Cereal breakfast offered.

Review 57:The walls were paper thin. You could hear "everything". TV didn't work. View out of the window was the outside wall and window of another room 10 ft away

Review 58:Not a lot

Review 59:I've been coming to this hotel for years but the last few times have changed substantially. I believe ownership has changed and it shows. After traveling 22 hours I came here because I have stayed and refered many people here over the years. Upon checkin the receptionist took 30 mins to get my card to run through correctly. Once in my room my bed was a double when I paid for a queen and TV didn't work.also I could hear extremely loud people above me doing God knows what?! I asked to move rooms. The second room was cold and I was told there was no heat in that room. So I was brought a space heater, that didn't actually even work... In Alaska?! Rooms with no heat are you kidding me?! In February.... I finally got to sleep at 1 a.m. But I was woken. At 5 with loud sounds and slamming doors and hammering on pipes or the side of the building. Come to find out a radiator had broken. When I called to request a late checkout considering my lack of sleep, I was met with resistance. I asked what they were going to do to compensate their customers for a night leaking sleep. She said she hadn't the authority to do anything. I asked for a manager to call me back and explained I had been coming there for the last 5 years and would like to be compensated for the terrible nights sleep and stay. That was days ago and no one has called me. I believe if you offer a gret service people will return and refer you business. Your lack of call has earned you a bad review, my business and zero word of mouth from one customer. You will loose much more that 72.95 by having not compensated me. A smart business understands this. I won't be returning and I warn anyone else who may be looking for a comfortable peaceful artist Soace to look no more here, it's not what it once was at all. Holly Wood

Review 60:Nothing this time, absolutely nothing.

Review 61:Room was the size of a closet with a full bed, two nightstands, dresser, fridge, microwave, rolling heater and iron supplies. Way too much stuff in the room and no place to put luggage. Windows accumulated lots of moisture, so the office style carpeting got very wet. Need to wear shoes or sandals in the room. Very noisy bldg, as you can hear walking, talking and more at all hours. Breakfast was low end carbs only with very limited selection. WiFi was slow and often dropping. For the price, it's not worth it.

Review 62:Location was good, as it was in walking distance to the downtown and coastal trail. Good hot water pressure and temperature in shower.

Review 63:Luxury hotels don't impress me. I worked for one and they have the same amenities as the Anchorage Hotel. Give me a great location, a knowledgable staff, and a nice place to sleep. Everyone else, feel free to pay more for views and amenities I would never use. Go stay at a nice, little hotel and go see the beautiful city.

Review 64:A bit noisy - soundproofing needed.

Review 65:Amazing staff. So helpful and friendly. Breakfast was great as I didn't have to worry about finding somewhere.

Review 66:I have stayed in a lot of places in Alaska, and for the price this is great. Especially considering parking is included. In a quiet area of downtown but close to the action. It's small, quaint, and has no elevator. Staff was great. Can't believe people were knocking it! Maybe wouldn't suggest it if you are coming from a cruise. You'll probably be a bit spoiled, and might find it too "rustic" it's an independently owned 16 bedroom affordable place to stay for a night or two.

Review 67:Our room was partially underground so our view was of the parking lot - at ground level! We were looking right into tires.

Review 68:Liked the unusual room decor and the staff was very friendly. We did not get to partake in breakfast since we had to leave for the airport at 4 a.m. The airport shuttle service was very convenient since we could choose the exact time of departure.

Review 69:Room was quite dark and the décor didn’t help. I think they are going for a “boutique look” but on a budget. There was a crudely painted mural on the wall and exposed pipes, which made a noise when neighbours flushed the toilet.

Review 70:Great location, an easy walk to downtown sites and just a few blocks from transit centre to catch buses around town and to airport. Few blocks from Hertz car rental offices. Quiet, safe location. The bathroom looks as if that had been recently remodelled and was to quite a high finish with hairdryer and nice toiletries. A fridge and microwave in the room was good, as was the iron and board. Free reliable WiFi in room. Staff at front desk courteous and helpful. Looked after luggage when we arrived early, so we could go into town. Buffet style breakfast was nice with a good selection of fruit, muffins, waffles, cereal etc

Review 71:-very poor breakfast (toast and butter, no jam, no cheese -uncomfortable mattress and pillow -too warm blanket -not a good experience for the money

Review 72:location

Review 73:Great van service from the Airport. Called when we got off the plane and they were waiting for us out front. Friendly staff ready to answer questions. The van driver recommended a restaurant that we loved (Glacier Brew House) Went back for the Sunday Brunch! Everything is within walking distance of the Hotel. They provide you with an Alaska Activity Map when you check in making it easy to explore downtown Anchorage. Overall a nice stay, clean room on the third floor,in a quiet less busy area of the city.

Review 74:Facilities not kept up. Window wouldn't open, so no ventilation possible. Wasn't repaired when requested. Swarm of bees inside hallways for days. No elevator.

Review 75:Great location for our purpose. Breakfast was ok. Shuttle to and from airport.

Review 76:the place was slightly dirty, only a bed in the room - no chair/table to work and wifi was always disconnecting no safebox to leave valuable things together windows not fully closeable / lockable and no washing machine at the hotel

Review 77:location is convenient and it is cheaper than other hotels

Review 78:Bathroom needs refinishing.

Review 79:Nice bed and the bathroom was also nice. Everything was standard for hotels I've been at, but standard rarely is this cheap.

Review 103:In spite of bding empty, they insisted room is not available tillafternoon. I arrived Round 11 h am

Review 104:A very cramped room with a view onto the very messy roofs of other buildings.

Review 105:Very goods location and staff were helpful
