Reviews for Leura House

Review 1:Very run down, beds probably 20 plus years old and was way too expensive. Breakfast was too meager for how much we paid

Review 2:Very intersting old property at a great location

Review 3:Nothing really it met all of our expectations. It is a 130 year old structure and some if it's character has to be accepted.

Review 4:Great location , great sense of style ,very genuine host who assisted us with good advice during our stay

Review 5:I had requested a bottle of champers and a cheese plater on arrival through the online site neither of these were delivered . The breakfast was very poor . With package cereal and bacon and eggs only available . One serving of bacon was a half a eye of a rash of bacon with the rind . The coffee was very bad and tin fruit . I would not be hard to have fresh fruit and and arrangement of bread and maybe a selection of hot food for breakfast . The room was not tided and towels were not replaced .

Review 6:The location was fantastic

Review 7:Weak continental breakfast Not changing towels No toilet paper except the 2 given at the very beginning of our stay Pretty cold, we had to use electrical heater (in sommer)

Review 8:Good, friendly staff, good location (village centre, close to railway station), nice living room with tonnes of books and games, historical building

Review 9:The breakfast is not as what I expected. Just bread, coffee, tea, cereal.

Review 10:The host are very friendly. The lady likes to chat with ppl. And the room and bed is very comfortable. They offered heat in the room, and extra pillows and blanket as well. The living room is very cozy. The house is an antique itself.

Review 11:The breakfast was basic. The room was quite cold when the weather turned rainy and chilly.

Review 12:The house is historical and interesting. The garden is beautiful. The host was helpful.

Review 13:Garry the proprietor is an excellent host - friendly and helpful and he knows a lot about the local area. The old house is a delightful place to stay - much more interesting than a bland resort. Our room was spacious, comfortable and very clean.

Review 14:The door lock was difficult to operate and it would have been good to have a table in the room. There was a fan, but no aircon. I was returning a few days later (on foot) and would have liked to leave my car in the car park, rather than on the street.

Review 15:The house was quite historic and like a mansion. I had a very spacious room. The dining room was impressive and breakfast was great. The Leura shops were within easy walking distance.

Review 16:No air conditioning or ceiling fan, but did have a small floor fan which worked okay.

Review 17:Stunning views, comfy bed and room had a lovely balcony. Owner was very welcoming and friendly.

Review 18:Going through bathroom from front door toilet has no privisy. You could be sitting on toilet when the door opened. It was a converted shed. A bit expensive for what it is.

Review 19:Close to town

Review 20:/

Review 21:What a beautiful accomodation. We've booked one night but had such a great time we stayed 2 nights extra. The owner is very friendly! The location is very good, close to all good lookouts etc. Realy comfortable bed! There is also a great livingroom inside the house were you can play al sorts of bordgames or read books or just chill ;) Amazing place!

Review 22:There was no one in attendance when we arrived. There was only a business card taped to the door with any contact details on it. The "cottage" we booked was not even available. The whole thing was a joke.

Review 23:The staff were most friendly and accommodated our requests. They upgraded us to a family room free of charge to accomodate our 2 month old baby. Lovely setting steeped in history located close to town.

Review 24:Gary the owner was extremely helpful and made my stay very pleasant. The location was perfect for my purpose and the house was quiet and comfortable. It's quaint and a little shabby..but that's what I was looking for..

Review 25:The breakfast of cereal and toast was disappointing - no advice that cooked breakfast was only available at weekends.

Review 26:Lovely old house with comfortable rooms. A great pub nearby for evening meals.

Review 27:Lovely house and setting. Gary is obviously very proud of his home and wants to share with others; he was also happy to tell us the history of the house. Gary went to the trouble of sourcing gluten free products for breakfast.

Review 28:This is not a "bad experience", more a statement of fact, possibly due to our lack of experience with bed and breakfast in Australia: Bed was not made or room cleaned during the time we were there. A little surprised at this. Breakfast was very limited, no cooked breakfast. Also breakfast start time was a bit late for us.

Review 29:Quirky old house, lots of history about the building and area within the house. Room was large with lots of space. Nearby bar with restaurant. Close to the station and the nearby village/ town. Good base if you have a car.

Review 30:The wifi was slow.

Review 31:A lovely old property. Our room was large and we slept very well! The owners were very accommodating and even had breakfast early for us on request.

Review 32:I was moved from the cottage to the house for convenience of the owner. I was asked and I said okay, but it seemed like an unusual thing to do given the place was not booked out. The owner's manner when parking was very particular and not very friendly. The bed was not that comfortable. Power points were difficult to reach for charging devices. There were no tissues in the tissue box. There was no provision for gluten free, although I had not asked for it, but I did take my own, but there was no microwave available to prepare it.

Review 33:It was a peaceful setting.

Review 34:needed to do some work and nowhere to rest the laptop in the room

Review 35:Convenient quiet location very handy to Leura Village. Inclusion of breakfast is a good saving.

Review 36:The place had character /old fashioned historical charm with modern facilities. The various prints/photos and decor were pleasing and the garden was lovely

Review 37:Was nice and quiet and the place had character. The gardens where lovely and a peaceful old home. Bed was comfortable and a good shower. Tea and coffee provided in the room.

Review 38:If the breakfast could start a little earlier than 8.30 it would suit people like me who like to get up and get going.

Review 39:Gary the owner/host was very helpful, and also gave me a free room upgrade. Very clean and the room was lovely with plenty of character. I would definately stay again.

Review 40:The top of the wardrobe has large dust balls. The amount of bacon provided for breakfast was laughable.

Review 41:The peacefulness and the general atmosphere of the premises.

Review 42:Only one staff the owner looks after whole place. We arrive a couple of hrs before check in time and place was locked up tight, cannot leave luggage there. May be because of low season. Old house so difficult to heat and heat turned off at night so bring lots of woolies if visiting in winter. Breakfast very basic though adequate. Area around the house is rather run down so gives it a bit of a creepy feeling.

Review 43:It is a heritage property with lots of interesting artifact but needs some upgrading. all around. Located near main town area but up a fairly steep hill (not long) but could be challenging for the less mobile.

Review 44:This is the oldest establishment in leura, and it is certainly showing its age. Was classified as a luxury B&B - I would actually rate it at low end 3 star. I have stayed in some lovely heritage B&Bs over the years, but this certainly was not one. Shower was mouldy, bed and pillows uncomfortable. There was also only a small oil heater provided to warm the room - it was cool during our visit and room was chilly at night - very glad we weren't there in winter!! Breakfast was poor quality - 2 poached eggs you could have bounced off the wall, and a tiny slither of bacon. Better off taking the short walk into leura to one of the cafes for a decent breakfast.

Review 45:The location was good, handy to leura and nearby tourist attractions of three sisters, scenic railway etc

Review 46:Breakfast was nice and although it could have been both a bit bigger and slightly better it is included in the price of the rooms.

Review 47:A really beautiful house and a really very nice owner / operator. The rooms are very large and nicely appointed and the house itself is really very full of history (which the owner will gladly share with you). Well worth the visit.

Review 48:The owner Gary is pleasant, but really should not be in hospitality. As a young boy I constantly stayed at the Gleneagles Guest House in Totquay, whose owner Sinclair was the character on which Basil Faulty was based. There were distinct similarities.

Review 49:Gorgeous old building

Review 50:We stay Leura house with young family . We couldn't wait until morning to get out . Room so old , mouldy , not clean $500 per night couldn't able to rate as 2star . My children got allergy swollen eyes . We left 7.30am next day

Review 51:the walls of the room were thin and could hear conversation form the next room

Review 52:Setting was beautiful . Host was very friendly and the information given was interesting.

Review 53:A bit on the chilly side in the bathroom! Check-in time nearer 8.00 p.m. would be useful if one has to finish work before coming to Leura

Review 54:Helpful staff both during the stay and post-stay

Review 55:Looks like the dream was to own the property, not to run the property, now seems a chore. Needs life injected into it. It could be so much better if the decor was brighter and a feeling of warm was there. Needs fires on and organised groups to come in, ie, knitting clubs, card nights, Sunday roast lunch and board games as a few suggestions.

Review 56:Liked the location and room

Review 57:Luxury it was NOt, cold breakfast toast cereal and tinned fruit. Accomadation billed as a garden cottage more like a garden shed you walked through a bathroom to get to a small bedroom. Not worth going

Review 58:not much

Review 59:Only negative if you can call it that: there was no exhaust fan in bathroom, tap dripped and water took a long time for hot water to come through.

Review 60:historical property in good location close to village

Review 61:Shame the fire wasn't lit

Review 62:Large comfortable rooms and a fantastic common lounge area in which to relax Friendly, helpful host who filled us in on history of the house and some excellent local walks around Mt Hay. Very close to town. No need to drive.

Review 63:I rang the morning of the day we were arriving to ask if our room had a mini fridge. The one I had booked did not but happily when we arrived we had been upgraded to a room with fridge and private ensuite. Very happy with that and loved using the bath after day out hiking. Very conveniently located to spectacular walking and scenery.

Review 64:There was nothing I could comment negatively about.

Review 65:I was upgraded with no extra cost. The room was nicely furnished, warm & comfortable. It had everything my wife & I could expect. Breakfast was very tastefully presented. The owners were very accommodating & friendly, but respected the privacy of their guests.

Review 66:Well restored, cosy old style guest house with lots of room and a nice back garden in a quiet location just a few minutes walk up from the village of Leura.

Review 67:bed was very very hard ,and the pillows, very hard, used the sun cushions on the window bed for pillows,

Review 68:the age of the house ,the beautiful gardens, walk to shops,it was like walking back in time.

Review 69:Breakfast is not generous but it was enough and much better than the bad reviews we read before going.

Review 70:Host Gary waited up for our late arrival on a stormy night. He thoughtfully warmed the room for us and made us feel immediately welcome.

Review 71:Breakfast disappointing. gluten free not catered for. No option for hot food other than toast.

Review 72:Comfortable, character fill house, quiet area but close to main centre of Leura.

Review 73:Some very minor mould in shower, and we weren't advises whether there was WiFi.

Review 74:Location is short walk from Laura Mall, but very quiet location. Easy to find and easy to get back onto main highway. Room had balcony and lovely views.

Review 75:Owners constantly turning off lights and also reducing heating to rooms. Did not create the right impression with guests Breakfast "hot menu" very poor and inadequate supplies of bacon

Review 76:Lovely location Loved the library and room size Great place to relax

Review 77:The house has so much character with interesting painting and an overall Victorian / late Georgian charm. The gardens arey beautiful for relaxing. Spitting distance from Leura town centre which has great cafes and restaurants. Close to Katoomba and the Three Sisters (although I would not recommend that town. I think, unlike Leura, it has lost its old world charm and is full of bus loads of day tourists.

Review 78:The share bathroom was two levels down from the room. Not really easy to go there during the night! The price was really to high compared to the quality of the room and the host not very welcoming and nice.

Review 79:The house has a lot of character and could reallly be luxuous. The location is great. Good to have a breakfast

Review 80:THAT THERE WAS NO FRIDGE, OR SEATING IN OUR ROOM. ALSO NO AVAILABLE TABLE SETTINGS TO EAT A TAKE AWAY MEAL OR HAVE A GLASS OF WINE IN THE AFTERNOON. A LOT OF WASTED AREA NOT USED OR UNWELCOMING FOR THE YEAR 2015

Review 81:The history of the place and the large king comfortable bed

Review 82:Ridiculous breakfast offering, windows in room not adequate or operational , proprietor demanding payment before we would be shown to the room , and more...

Review 83:Nothing much. The breakfast was amazing: cereals and toast.... Wow

Review 84:It was a bit expensive for the standard of room, found a huggeee cockroach running around in the bedroom which is never nice to find.

Review 85:Loved the building - had a lot of history, first house to be built in Leura in 1880. The man who welcomed us was very friendly, and gave us a run down of the building and it's history. It's also the family home, so it has that homely feeling. It has beautiful gardens also. We enjoyed our stay as it's also a close distance from the Mall and the pub which has amazing food and won awards, we were impressed.

Review 86:Breakfast fairly ordinary - doesn't cost much extra to provide propoer bacon rather than two minute rashers that looked like pretend bacon

Review 87:Good location; grand old building; quiet

Review 88:Thin towels, one little cake of soap, no daily cleaning service, strict breakfast times, unwelcoming host, Very strict departure times, no host presence. Would Not Stay Again. It is Leura's own Faulty Towers.

Review 89:Location was good.

Review 90:No bad experience. The bed and pillow weren't as soft as I prefer. The Wi-Fi was a bit weak.

Review 91:Friendly relaxed atmosphere. Proximity to Leura village. Good value.

Review 92:Don't even think of booking the cheap room! can't speak for the rest. We knew the bathroom would be shared but we didn't know the bathroom would be a "hike". Not exactly comfortable in the middle of the night or for a romantic getaway if you know what I mean. The owner was nice but a little bit of a snappy tom when the visitors complained about the wifi. To be fair, there were two to choose from and the visitors were choosing the one that drops out.

Review 93:This is lovely accommodation and so close to everything. It's an ideal situation for seeing everything the Blue Mountains has to offer. It was peaceful, comfortable, clean and we were very well looked after.

Review 94:The walls may be too thin but it think it was just unrealistic people in the next room. We put the TV on while we were waiting for breakfast. At 8.30 just as we were about to turn it off and go down for breakfast, the lady in the next room knocked on the door and complained that we had the TV on and she could not sleep. I pointed out that it was 8.30 - she replied that it did not matter because they were on holidays and wanted to sleep! I think that they were just very sad people and thought the world revolved around them.

Review 95:Good value and good service.

Review 96:The owner seemed to forget that we were paying guests. He kept telling us that it was a private home. I felt I was imposing when I requested towels - none had been provided. A knock in the door Sunday morning at 10:05 reminded us that checkout was at 10. Hairdryer worked only occasionally. We won't be back!

Review 97:If anything can be improved it is the cooked breakfast. A bit more bacon and tomato for those who do not eat eggs would be good.

Review 98:Great location, near everything important. Garry the manager was friendly and informative about the house's history. Modern comfort with heritage charm.

Review 99:WiFi only in public area -- but it's a charming living room, so actually very nice to spend time in.

Review 100:Leura House is a fascinating Victorian era guesthouse and the proprietors are perfectly suited to it. They are welcoming, friendly, know the history of the house and area, and were helpful in every way.

Review 101:Nothing

Review 102:we arrived late and had to leave early for canyoning so they provided breakfast already in our room as per our request. Upon arrival our key was in the envelope and they had upgraded our room!

Review 103:Walk from train station. Unaware of free WIFI. Location of rusting childrens' slide in back yard detracted from beautiful area. More comfortable outdoor seating would be helpful.

Review 104:Beautiful house and gardens. Friendly staff, well appointed comfortable room. Peacefull surroundings.

Review 105:The warning about not putting makeup stains on the towels or we'd get charged extra for cleaning them. I can understand it, but it could have been phrased in an nicer way.

Review 106:The house and its history. The proximity to everthing. The host was very friendly and the breakfast was included in the price, so a good deal I thought. We got upgraded to a room with a balcony overlooking the garden which was lovely.

Review 107:A few spiders and cob webs, but I'd rather not be toxified by chemicals and deal with the spiders.

Review 108:The decor was amazing, the room was very roomy and we got exactly what we wanted to have. Clean bath and ammenities. Well Kept.

Review 109:Wifi a bit slow at times Breakfast: very basic, tasteless coffee.

Review 110:Location very close of town centre in the heart of best spots of Blue Monuntains Very nice historic place with plenty of charm Nice hosts, Gary is a sweetie Stunning good sized rooms with large balcony

Review 111:Maybe breakfast, a bit tired with a bit more imagination when it comes to fruit and say some yogurt.

Review 112:It was nice to stay in history and enjoy the old world charm.

Review 113:We booked the 2 bedroom bungalow and it turned out to be an old priest quarters separate from the house. It was damp, basic and in need of TLC. Breakfast was beyond basic, even for continental.

Review 114:The communal areas and outdoor settings were lovely.

Review 115:Room advertised with shared bathroom. Didn't realise the bathroom and toilet were two floors below in the reception area! Everything very minimal, soap toilet paper etc. whole place very creaky and in need of some TLC. Decore very date and tired looking. Couldn't recommend to friends.

Review 116:Location

Review 117:Lots of steep stairs but this is to be expected in a property such as this

Review 118:Friendly homey from the minute you walk inn the door nothing is too much trouble. The room was comfortable and the shower was hot and strong.Buffet breakfast was adequate juice cereal toast and coffee. Quiet and relaxing would highly recommend it and have already done so

Review 119:Beautiful historic home. We loved the original fittings and the charming old world feel. Owners were friendly and discrete. We enjoyed our continental breakfast. I would recommend this to any others that enjoy comfort and history.

Review 120:We booked a cottage as a romantic escape but the design is very strange you open the door to go into the toilet straight away then the bedroom. The room is tiny with old and dusty furniture. The bed is uncomfortable and the breakfast is very poor. Not up to the value of money at all.

Review 121:Could do with additional staff. . Although the breakfast was fine, a more varied buffet would create interest.

Review 122:Beautiful house with original features. Very comfortable and feels more like home than a busy business like hotel. The location is outstanding, close to the train station and the charming village of Leura.

Review 123:Very comfortable, easy going leave to stay. The host is friendly and very helpful, making for a very pleasant stay. There house has easy access to the town centre and there highway. We found it ideal. Brilliant shower!!

Review 124:Beds are never big enough. Bathroom never has enough room for your toiletries. Couldn't turn the fan off individually in the bathroom and the noise was awful.

Review 125:Surroundings and the history of the place.luv the old type b&b's.

Review 126:It had signs up everywhere telling you not to use towels to wash off makeup and if you did you would be paying for new towels which were already very old and thin. House while old and lovely needs a lot of work and maintenance, windows need cleaning too. There was no air con and only one window you could open and bathroom had no blind so at night you couldn't put the light on. Walls paper thin and was very noisy, breakfeast was only served 8.30- 9.30 and was disgusting and very poor. Office rarely opened and had signs up from how to park your car to every other trivial thing under the sun. Instead of usual b&b hospitality this place made you feel as though someone was always looking over your shoulder! Was extremely disappointed in every possible way

Review 127:Not much

Review 128:There was nothing I did not like.

Review 129:I was given a large comfortable room overlooking the garden and with a well equipped shower room. The house itself was spacious and furnished with antiques and had a lovely, homely atmosphere. Breakfast was fine. Gary, our host, was interesting and friendly and this added to the enjoyment of our stay.

Review 130:Didn't check to see if w had a fridge in our room (we didn't) and the plumbing needed fixing as when the bath was let out it flooded the floor!

Review 131:Beautiful house, friendly staff.

Review 132:Breakfast was far too late at 8.30 especially if you wanted to do a hike or get on the road early.

Review 133:Didn~t need to get in the car. Could walk everywhere but was also very quiet.
