Reviews for Hotel Berne
Review 1:A bit of of centre, but directly at the start of several walking ways
Review 2:Very friendly staff. Very good restaurant, which compensated for the location a bit out of centre, though with a nice view of the town.
Review 3:We enjoyed the ambience and location of this comfortable hotel. The drive to and from was through stunning scenery. We would have loved to have stayed longer so as to enjoy some mountain walks. We did enjoy the swimming pool. The staff were outstanding.
Review 4:Nothing.
Review 5:The location. The staff are great. Totally spotless. Excellent breakfast. Nice swimming pool. Good views. We could not have wished for better. Nice dinner.
Review 6:We booked this hotel for one night only, not knowing what to expect in Manteigas. When we arrived we were welcomed by the owner, who spoke no English but was very friendly. He showed us to our room. Nothing special, no frills but clean, with a balcony and a good bed. The first day we spend exploring Manteigas, a small village in the mountains. Quite nice and quiet, it really has the feeling of a mountain village where everyone knows each other. In the evening we wanted to have dinner in the hotel but it was closed, but the owner's son directed us to a good restaurant next door. We decided to stay another night as the weather was picking up and we wanted to go for a long walk. Manteigas is known for its hiking trails. Breakfast in the hotel was good. Several options of bread, ham and cheeses, marmalade, yogurt and fruits, juices, coffee, tea etc. When we came back from our walk we had a few hours at the pool: great lounge chairs and umbrellas were available! The second night the restaurant was open and it was amazing. The owners son who seems to work around the clock gave us excellent recommendations for the food. It is really good, well prepared, just this little extra in presentation of the food, excellent tastes, very nice! So if you want to spend time in Manteigas, this is a nice place to stay!
Review 7:We all loved our stay at the hotel. Our rooms had a great view over the river and the other margin of Manteigas and were very confortable. Great location for some trips around Serra da Estrela. The restaurant is extremely nice and quite affordable, we ended up always having dinner there and all dishes were great. The staff is very friendly, specially with the young ones.
Review 8:- Paid Wi-fi, should be free. - Staff could be more kind and likable.
Review 9:- Complete breakfast with some regional components. - Location, 30min far away from the top of the ridge. - Bed confort.
Review 10:The sitting room does not allow any privacy. Service in this room takes too much time. The lack of some newspapers or magazines to have a look. The staff could be more kind. Internet has no reason to be paid.
Review 11:The location, the cleaning, the room comfort. The breakfast is great.
Review 12:Nothing
Review 13:The hotel was very comfortable the two young guys more than happy to help nothing was too much trouble. Food was very good especially the Kebabs.
Review 14:Receptionist/waiter was unwelcoming, arrogant and rude. Restaurant was closed for both evenings of our stay. The service had deteriorated since our last stay 18 months ago.
Review 15:Breakfast. Room with balcony.
Review 16:Very kind and nice place and people. Good conditions.
Review 17:Signage to find the hotel was poor.
Review 18:Manteigas was beautiful. The hotel was good for hikers, but a bit far from the center of town.

Review 35:local restaurants not close to the hotel
Review 36:excellent facilities and location, friendly staff, nice view, place for parking, good food, superb rooms.
Review 37:Wi-Fi access is charged for, albeit €1 per 24hrs. It should be free or included in the room price.
Review 38:A great little hotel on the edge of town
Review 39:Great hotel. The two young guys on reception were really friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and spacious. The location in the village of Manteigas was perfect. The wifi worked well. The breakfast was superb. Highly recommended!
Review 40:This is a wonderful family run hotel, with a kind of Swiss efficiency about it. They were very helpful in every way, and even advised about trails in the area. Room had a beautiful view and balcony, and the swimming pool was just great. I wish I could have stayed longer!
Review 41:(i) Location - because there were several other places near the top of the Serra (Torre), like Penhas Douradas (ii) The bed and towels - the bed gave me back pains and the towels were rugged (iii) Breakfast - was hoping for some croissants at least!
Review 42:(i) The restaurant (ii) The comfort and warmth of the bedroom (iii) Easy parking (iv) The staff was nice
Review 43:Noisy location, chain saws, parties, barking dogs. There was a village party going on during our visit. The music was so loud that nothing blocked it out - it went on until 4 in the morning - these events are rare, apparently.
Review 44:Nice location, excellent staff, good food
Review 45:we loved everything
Review 46:The room was very clean and had balcony. Didnt have a fridge. good tv and air conditioning. The breakfast was amazing. It is run by a family and they were very helpful at all times. If we needed to know information they showed us and gave us maps. The swimming pool is nice and great views. Didnt eat in the restaurant so dont know about the dinner. But i recommend to eat there as there is not too many decent places to eat in this town. Wireless internet is available in the room. just had to pay 1 euro in total. parking was free and no problem. Views are amazing here.
Review 47:Service was incredible to include them sending me a pot of tea as my stomach was not the best. They were excellent with my Son and that will always make our stay great. The pool is a great relaxation point for a good book or a swim.
Review 48:If weather is bad in out of season, then you may find not much to do.
Review 49:Family run hotel and they are very good at what they do. The town is an untapped resource for hikers and they are very well organised. Food is excellent!! But get in to the spirit as it is local food and recipes!! Do not go expecting international food... you are on holiday!! :-)
Review 50:This was a wonderful two days: great view from our room's balcony, fascinating hiking trails (about which staff was knowledgable), delicious dinner and generous breakfast buffet.
Review 51:The roads to the hotel are around the mountain and with snow it might be dangerous. Dont ever take the road from Manteigas to Gouveia, its the most dangerous road I ever drive.nTake the road to Guarda instead.
Review 52:The staff are very friendly and helpful. Bedrooms are good and warm. I went in winter for snow activities and the hotel is well prepared and have all the equipment needed on request. All our meals were there and were excellent.
Review 53:This family-run auberge was clean, modern and above all - welcoming and friendly. The on-site restaurant was very good with an interesting selection of entrees and a very tasty and filling breakfast buffet. Views over the town of Manteigas were lovely from the rooms and the dining lounge.
Review 54:Nothing, very friendly staff and we had everything we needed.
Review 55:It was a fantastic little hotel with an amazing view of the town and mountains for not an expensive amount! What more could you want!?
Review 56:Strange bathtub fill via shower. Lack of minibar to provide cold drinks in room.
Review 57:Friendly but courteous family service giving great insight to local economy /culture.. Great private balcony to well equiped room. Great local produce meals. Exceptionally efficient internet access in room .HGotel large enough to be private when required but small enough to feel important.
Review 58:Beautiful location with very helpful staff. Although no dinner served 2 nights we were there the position of the hotel meant we had a nice walk to excellent restaurant in the village. Would definitely recommend hotel as excellent value for money in lovely mountain location.
Review 59:Portugal needs queen-sized beds to replace twin beds.
Review 60:Drop-dead view from oh so private balcony and glass of port in hand is amemory for a lifetime. Better still, with its peaceful pool and hikingtrail out the door anyone taking the room can be wonderfully saved fromvegetating too much.
Review 61:Shame the kitchen was closed on one of our nights as we would havereally enjoyed a fondue !!

Review 65:After a long drive from the uk we were welcomed to Hotel Berne by acharming and helpful young man who checked us into 2 very comfortableadjoining rooms for our family and then invited us to swim in the poolwhich was just blissful with views of the surrounding hills. The hotelwas extremely clean and comfortable and all the hotel staff were lovely, very helpful and accommodating. We would definitely like to return toManteigas and stay in Hotel Berne again.
Review 66:What a great host Rafael is. Thank you for helping us long our way andfor making our stay very enjoyable. Rafael explained the issues of theeconomy to the state of football in Portugal. I congratulate him on hispeople skills. The rooms and food were great too.
Review 67:There was a small step between room and bathroom which was unexpected and a bit dangerous especially in the middle of the night.
Review 68:Excellent and very comfortable stay. Reasonably priced and very nice breakfast and restaurant for lunch/dinner. Great cozy atmosphere.
Review 69:Not a real complaint, but had I not had a gps unit, I would have had adifficult time finding it, despite the fact that there are several bigblue signs directing you to the hotel. Once we found the hotel and thenre-read the signs they were helpful. But when we first arrived, we haddifficulty trying to figure out where they were directing us to go.
Review 70:This hotel ios absolutely fantastic. Owned and run by a family, allmemberrs are very helpful, and the two sons are completely fluent inEnglish. The food is also fantastic as well. The room had a fantasticview of the surrounding mountains. We visited the 'glaciwer valley, andTorre, the highest point in mainland Portugal. Even in April, peoplewere skiing up there.
