Reviews for Thresher Cove Resort

Review 1:The beach is not nice, the restaurant staff is very slow and the food not that good, breakfast is poor and we ended up paying like a top resort with all the additional taxes & services charged. Also, the bathroom is very smelly and they didn't provide bottle water during our stay.

Review 2:Malapascua island itself is a nice place to go and the room had very nice beach view.

Review 3:The matrasses were really thin and there was no ATM at the whole island. But at the Threshers cove you can pay by creditcard.

Review 4:Had such a wonderful time at Threshers cove resort! Staff was very nice and helpful, the restaurant serves really good food and the view is amazing. It's like waking up in paradise. For diving also it's a perfect place! They have their own motorbike driver so it's easy to get around. Also, you can rent a boat (really cheap) and go snorkling or just chill all day at the pool or at the restaurant where they have lots of dvd's they can play for you. It was great!

Review 5:The dorm beds are the most uncomfortable I've ever slept in. The land route to the resort needs turning into proper stairs.

Review 6:Although a 20 min walk from The Village, it was quiet and a great place to escape to. The staff are really friendly and helpful. The food in the restaurant never disappointed. It was always tasty and to a high standard. It was also cheaper than the restaurants on Bounty Beach.

Review 7:Wi-Fi was not working when needed the most (a lot of complaints from other travellers as well), location is quite remote. And what disturbed me the most is that they care really only about money. The customer service is very poor and receptionists were not kind at all. I can easily say this was by far my worst experience in 1-month travelling on Philippines.

Review 8:Resort is quite clean.

Review 9:The staff was incompetent, especially when helping guests plan day trips. Prices were very expensive, and the 12% VAT was not included until the end, which made a massive difference and was a very unfortunate surprise on the bill!

Review 10:The food was good, and the rooms were clean. The diving instructors were knowledgeable.

Review 11:Not alot of signs to direct you when walking here and it is a 15/20 minute walk from the town - but alot of people staying at the resort so not isolated and i made the walk 6 times without too much effort!

Review 12:Great resort/hostel, amazing pool, great pizza, access to reasonably priced diving, rooms also reasonably priced, air com dorms were pleasant and clean, excellent bathroom compared with the rest of the philippines and even a bunch of movies and board games to use for free!!

Review 13:The entrance on the land side needs to be fixed. It looks like s back alley. The little houses were a bit to hot no wind flowing in because of the positioning of them but we got a fan.

Review 14:Staff excellent. food is delicious, blt sandwich, fish and chips, nasi goreng and all the fresh juices yum. Dish our dive instructor gets a 10 :)

Review 15:This resort has the best recipe for relaxing. The beach is private, the pool is amazing with warm water, the food delicious and the whole place quiet and clean. We did not dive but most people come here to dive.

Review 16:The breakfast is a bit limited but still good if you are not staying more than 3-4 days

Review 17:Our stay in the Tresher Cove Resort was just awesome. The place is clean and fully equipped. The staff is friendly, close and helpful. They will assist you in organising any activitites that fit your interests. The restaurant is great - a lot of delicious stuff to choose from. Totally recommended! We will definitely repeat the next time we are in Malapascua

Review 18:The location was a bit far from the village.

Review 19:Price for dorm room is value for money. It has private beach , swimming pool which i could enjoy the facilities. Staff there were nice & helpful too.

Review 20:I think Malapascua is more recommended for people with the intention of diving, other than that it can be bored.

Review 21:Big swimming pool, beauty private beach, nice restaurant.

Review 22:Cannot complain about anything.

Review 23:Very good value for money, Very friendly staff and nice diving! It's located close to the beautiful Batigue Beach.

Review 24:location. located on the back side of the island, and the beach sand is not as good as that of hotels located on the front side. while we need peace and quite, we also need to see people, specially at bars, at night.

Review 25:the hotel is ok, specially for its price, nice clean and comfy. location is ok if you need solitude. we actually moved to another hotel on the second day, although we've already paid for our entire stay on this hotel.

Review 26:The location is a bit from from the main beach where all the resorts are but if you don't mind the 20 minute walk then it's not a negative. The island is pretty walkable anyway and the resort is on another beach.

Review 27:The staff was very friendly. The resort itself was very clean and well located on its own beach even though it wasn't near the main beach. The food was pretty good and the overall atmosphere was really fun.

Review 28:Expensive food but its a small island and only a 20 min walk tocheaper places.

Review 29:Private beach and swimming pool, a/c, friendly staff, armed guardskeeping watch over you 24/7, cheap and awesome diving!

Review 30:As said, the only thing we really did not like was the sea water shower. After a dive it would of been nice to have a fresh water shower

Review 31:rior to travelling to the resort we made contact with the owner to make taxi arrangements for our transfer, this was made with good communication and everything went as planned. The drive through Cebu from Mactan takes you through some windy roads and a lot of road works which could make some with travel sickness sick.As you arrive at the venue you are met with a warm welcome, welcome drinks and friendly hospitality. The check in went smoothly with the tour of the villa made simple and easy.We stayed in the Captains Villa which was spacious, in good clean condition with a big flat screen TV, mini bar, fridge and a huge super comfy bed. Every day the cleaner took god care to make sure we had what we needed, even to noticing what extra we was using which is very rare.Only thing we did not like was the fact the shower used sea water and not fresh water.Around the venue there is the Dive store, a pool table, a restaurant, a sitting area, a swimming pool and guards to keep the venue safe. The Dive store is staffed by Knowledgeable, friendly and helpful staff. We did not use the pool table but it looked brand new.The sitting area was next to the restaurant and was also used for divers to look at there course videos, the area is clean but looked like it could do with a few more seats as people were sitting at the restaurant tables watching TV which made it awkward to get a seat to eat, no problem though as you can take a bike taxi from the resort to the village for 20 pesos and try other food. The restaurant at the venue was clean but not many tables, the food was very tasty and we were impressed at the flexibility of the chef's to prepare us veterinarian food out of menu, although there are some vegetarian dishes. We would recommend the vegetarian Adobo! We never tried the pool but it looked clean and we'll maintained with a separate shower, unsure if this would have been sea water as in the villas.

Review 32:The aircon in the dorm I slept in did not work properly. Which ment if you slept in the top bunk it was hotter and more humid than sleeping outside. Semi pricy food.

Review 33:Friendly staff. Nice facilities.

Review 34:The restaurant was a bit pricey. They did have a backpacker menu and since the accomodation was so cheap this didn't really bother me. The resort is not in the village and is a bit secluded but it's a 10 to 15 minutes walk which again didn't really bother me. Plus you get your own private beach here which is great.

Review 35:I stayed in the hostel and it was very affordable, yet I received a resort quality restaurant with pool, pool table,TV lounge area with lots of free movie choices for a rest after the dive.

Review 36:1km away from the busy area so also from all restaurants, during the day you can have a nice walk but at night rather take a motor taxi. I had the dorm bed with the air con only half a meter above it. Not really comfortable if you have to dive in the next days. When leaving i had to find out they charge for water refill which I as a backpacker didn't find very common.

Review 37:Located in a nice quiet bay, lots of outside area. Nice common hangout to watch a movie, large swimming pool, not too expensive for diving.

Review 38:Beds really small and uncomfortable, nothing to hang towels and swimsuits (really bad for a dive resort!), rooms kinda dirty,

Review 39:Cheap diving, staff helpful and friendly, nice common area, lots of movies, good food (you should offer snacks like chips and chocolate as well)

Review 40:i didnt like how the staff ignore you if you ask for towel. Then the bed is not ready. Maybe bec. We took the dorm accom. Or bec we are not foreigners.

Review 41:I like the pool and the view. Awesome. Very nice place.

Review 42:We didn't like the restaurant and its staff at Thresher Cove resort. It took is a very long time before we got our food.

Review 43:The dive instructor and divemaster were accommodating.

Review 44:The in-house restaurant is overpriced and not that great. A cup of tea cost me 2x what a beer in town costs. And they don't let you bring in your own food. So expect to walk to town (20-30 min) a couple times a day if you would rather blow your budget on diving rather than sub-par food.

Review 45:A private beach? Swimming pool? Sun chairs? I almost dropped my smelly backpack on arrival I was so shocked. It actually looks just like the pictures! The dive shop is professional and well run, staff are really friendly, and there is a hang out area with about 2 million DVDs if you just want to chill (and if no one is watching PADI videos)

Review 46:The staff in the restaurant could be a bit quicker...

Review 47:The Divecenter is top! Best service, quite new rental Equiptment in very good condition, flexible schedule for Divetrips (mostly customers choice), very professional guides (special thanks to Gibb!); Very good massages (ask for Gibbs wife ;) ) clean and quite resort with relaxing garantee Scooter shuttle to the town are availible any time. Takes you about 3 minutes

Review 48:Slow wifi, a bit far from town if you want to eat outside for a change, but it is a tiny island so it is not so bad. Cleaniness was not the best not because of the staff, but because it is an island And bugs are everywhere so even they clean you always find bugs.

Review 49:A/c, restaurant, pool, friendly and helpful staff. Awesome diving, super professional, special thanks to Dishiely! My stay in Malapascua was so enjoyable thanks to Thresher Cove. Absolutely recommendable!

Review 50:The restaurant is a bit expensive for what you get - very average food. The bathroom are shared among a lot of people and so are a bit smelly (even though cleaned regularly I think) and you often have to wait to use the shower or toilets.

Review 51:The staff were all absolutely lovely and as helpful as they could be. Everyone in the dive shop was on the ball and organised. The location is fine, not the best beach for swimming but only a five min walk from other beaches. Plus there's a pool. The little one or two man huts on the beach are gorgeous!

Review 52:beds are very uncomfortable, the whole island is'nt beautiful, the wifi is really bad and in front of the hotel restaurant they were hanging a dog because they said it has rubies...but I don't think he had...the waitress said don't worry they won't kill him, they will put him into an empty rice bag later...it was really horrible

Review 53:Small beds with bad matress... We ran out of coffee and water on board of diving boat within 1 hour on 1 trip The other trip was good !

Review 54:Resort style with dorm room good diving team !

Review 55:The accommodation was fine however to me it seemed as a "wannabe" to a luxury hotel but just couldn't reach its standards. For example there was a very nice curtain in the room but just couldn't be used as it fell all the time I tuched it, only one towel per person (no beach towel, face or feet towels), no soap etc. It just missed some details that raise the overal quality of the resort.

Review 56:Nice enviroment, spacious, lovely private beach

Review 57:Very beautiful situation, If you are there plan a period of one week to do courses of scuba Diving. Private Beach, very beautiful and relaxing place the staff are really helpful and amazing.

Review 58:Due to very bad weather there was on some days a problem with the food supply for breakfast. But its an a la carte breakfast and there was always something for everyone. Also the wifi and tv connection suffered from the bad weather.

Review 59:We stayed there for several nights and did a PADI open water course. Our room was a small beach bungalow. The bed was really comfy and the room spacious and clean. The resort is really beautiful, everything is new and very clean. They have a diving school, pool billard and a pool. The staff is great, the diving school as well and the teachers too. If you want to dive you should go there!

Review 60:No hot shower in the dorm and it is not specified on booking ! The mattress in the dorm is so thin everybody had back pain in the morning. The resort is quite far from the village (about 20 min walking distance and no road light during the night). The restaurant is a bit expensive compared to the other budget options on the island but since it is quite far from the village most of the people stay and have dinner there. Wifi is not so good in the dorm & the restaurant. Be careful there is no ATM on the island and the first ATM is 1 hour drive from Maya port. The resort does not do cashback so you better have enough cash with you.

Review 61:Really nice resort with pool & private beach. The place is really charming. Excellent food and service at the restaurant. Perfect for divers.

Review 62:Lovely place with its own secluded bay and dive pool. Completely private resort which is being added to daily as only opened in April 2014 after typhoon. Manager very good at suggestions for improvement. I suggested a mirror in the dorm and it was done

Review 63:None

Review 64:Just almost everything especially the attention given to details and how communicative the owners are. Prices are very competitive. Really you cannot find another as good in Malapascua.

Review 65:Wifi doesn't work in the dorm or the restaurant ,the modem is set in the pool

Review 66:12 person mix dorm only. free transfer to the new maya port. there is private beach, swimming pool and boat for diving. The restaurant is a little expensive but acceptable. it is good to hang about here because it's far away from the village

Review 67:It is kinda far away from the village which is compensated by the free bike rides, and I personally liked it a little remote from all the trouble. They offer a backpacker's menu which is still expensive compared to local food in the village - so if you go there to save money take the bike out for dining. (cooking yourself costs 100 pesos/meal) which is understandable though. They offer to organize a driver and private boat from Cebu, but I came by bus and public boat for 300 pesos (private transport it's about $100)

Review 68:I traveled to Malapascua to make my Open Water Course and Thresher Cove ofered accommodation starting from 0 pesos, if you dive with them. First I stayed in the dorm room for 200 pesos/night and then moved to the "Swiss Chalet" which is basically a hut on the beach only for sleeping (1,50m x 2,20m x 1,00m maybe big) with no fan and no air con - but for free. I didn't mind because I only slept there, it's very basic but its free! I liked the atmosphere of the resort so much that I stayed way longer than planned. It has a private beach, which is great, because all the other resorts are on one beach so it gets loud and crowded - not at Thresher Cove! They offer free motorbikes that take you everywhere you need to go and their restaurant is quite ok. Diving with them was great. New equipment, really good value for money (and still it's the cheapest on Malapascua). Pool is nice and clean. Everybody is super friendly and help you with everything all the time. Please be aware that the resort opened in April 2014 and it is not finished yet (thus maybe the cheap prices). Besides the Dive Shop and Pool, the Restaurant and the beach there is nothing else yet (they are building a pool table area and more accommodations right now)

Review 69:I wish they consider placing a bar, a drink or two should be fine after a long day in the beach.

Review 70:Everything! It has a nice beach view, staff were great and very friendly, and most importantly, the stillness and calmness of the place was just superb.

Review 71:wifi was slow and there was only reception in the common area, but I heard that should of already been taken care of...

Review 72:I stayed at the resort for three days and it had all I could wish for as a backpacker: cheap but well maintained dorms( all with a/c, private bathroom, daily cleaned), a great restaurant with a special backpackers menu, a great common area with big TV and DVDs, a great beach and a swimming pool, and all designed in a relaxing Carabbean atmosphere! The resort is a bit isolated and really the only reson to go to town (50php) is for a nice bar and pool table, however I heard both will be available there shortly! As for diving- sites are amazing (especially monad shoal with thresher sharks, the staff are professional and feiendly, and the gear is new!

Review 73:Everything

Review 74:I prefer female only dorms.

Review 75:Great swimming pool, very nice staff and clean place

Review 76:Super friendly staff.

Review 77:Nice and quiet place for relax with lovely staff, really thanks guys...
