Reviews for Guest House Devyaty Val

Review 1:Very thin walls, facilities better to be avoided (shower) - not clean, can't close the door etc... Good for short stay only.

Review 2:Good location, room with balcony - view on lake! Good breakfast.

Review 3:cannot detect wifi at all and the heater seems did not work at that night.

Review 4:the location is easy to find, comfortable bed. simple breakfast but i like it.

Review 5:Toilet and shower room can be better and cleaner, although it is already good enough. Wifi was not available in the room, had to go to dining room or common area.

Review 6:It is a traditional Siberia wooden house! Quiet and peaceful. Close the beach of baikal lake and Listvyanka town center. Very friendly owner although does not speak much of English.

Review 7:Only one shower for all guests and the walls are pretty thin so each twist and bump can be easily heard.

Review 8:Staff were helpful when we could find them, property is typical old fashioned style so don't expect luxury but everything you need easily located,

Review 9:like others said: thin walls between the rooms - unfortunately we had a very loud family next to us watching TV the whole night; expensive sauna; owner speaks no englisch at all

Review 10:view of the lake from balcony; 5 minutes walk to lake, supermarkets, restaurants; 15 minutes walk to fish market; russian breakfast; wooden house; owner were friendly, but not very helpful

Review 11:No wifi, even though advertised. No sauna available, even though advertised. The shower on our first night was cold. The electrics in the room, flickered on and off if you leant on the front door frame. We were told we had to move rooms on the second morning and were put into the pool room and had to sleep on a sofa bed. This room was advertised as a facility for guests to use. Whilst we were not expecting modern decor, it was very dismal and dreary. The garden area, was overgrown and not particularly inviting to sit in. It was no made clear at booking, that payment could not be made by card.

Review 12:Breakfast, bathroom facilities could be improved as the other comments say. Wifi worked near windows. But all these were still acceptable from my experience. They have good sauna facilities but I don't understand why they couldn't provide veniks (ве́ник) which is the highlight of Russian sauna (ба́ня). They don't take credit cards. I just found that it has been stated on booking.com but I had overlooked that part.

Review 13:It's a guest house so don't expect much about the facilities but there's a nice garden and it's very close to Lake Baikal. My experience with the hotel owners fortunately was not as bad as the previous comment. The guest house is run by a small family and yes they really don't speak much English (which I was not surprised given that it's Russia and it's in the country side). But I had no problem in communicating with them (usually with the son) through Google Translate. They were not there all the time but they happened to be around whenever I needed anything. I travelled by train and misunderstood the arrival time (it was shown in Moscow time but I thought it's local time) when there's no more public transport from Irkutsk to Listvyanka. You could imagine that the hotel owner and us couldn't communicate very successfully over the phone. I think he contacted booking.com who called us back immediately and helped translate for us. The hotel owner immediately came to Irkutsk to pick us up. It's a one hour drive between Irkutsk and Listvyanka. I asked booking.com how much that would cost. They said they were not sure but asked me to prepare 5,000 rubles. We thought that's acceptable because a taxi driver in Irkutsk asked for 9,500 rubles. At last the hotel owner charged us 2,500 rubles which we found out to be the standard rate between Irkutsk and Listvyanka. The next day we wanted to go to Lake Baikal. It's very close (3-5 minutes going downhill on foot) but my mother's legs were not good. I asked them to call a taxi for us and he immediately offered to give us a free ride. We have asked for information about Russian sauna (ба́ня) in other places in Listvyanka at a similar price range. It seems to be the norm that you should first make a booking and it takes 1.5 hours to heat up the room first. We needed late check out but I forgot to make the request before check-in. They were fine and flexible with it.

Review 14:The view.. the snow.. the place.. everything is perfect..

Review 15:Lack of English is somewhat problemlematic but knew this before we booked

Review 16:Didn't speak english

Review 17:Big room, massage shower

Review 18:Hard to find anybody from personel, no kitchen, breakfast hardly eatable, bed lining was a little wet when we get it

Review 19:Good localization, low price

Review 20:Downstairs door banging that shook the building

Review 21:Quiet, close to lake, nice balcony

Review 22:It was pleasant and the location was great, but the wifi kept cutting out and the breakfast was fairly basic.

Review 23:Blankets could do with a wash

Review 24:Couldn't beat the price. Hotel was clean and comfortable enough.

Review 25:Shower goes hot and cold.

Review 26:View of lake. Cute room. Good breakfast.

Review 27:Owner was never around. Didn't speak English or even tried to communicate. Only took his iPad for GoogleTranslate. Not friendly. Stupid thing is that there is a banja, laundry, common room,.. But you cant use it because the owner locks it when he leaves (And is gone most of the time). Wifi signal is bad, no wifi in the rooms. Breakfast is poor: 1 toast p.p, cheese that tasts like plastic, butter and tea (positive: one day with boiled egg and one day with pancake with meat) but 1 toast pp is not a lot! Shower was leeking a lot, just a little bit of warm water than it became cold. Very thin matrass on beds. We loved Baikal but wouldt recommend this guesthouse.

Review 28:Location is Ok. Letvyanka is quit spread out so you always have to walk for a while but this location is Ok. 10 min. to tourist info, market, boats

Review 29:Not really a hotel - just a room in a house with friendly but not easily accessible caretaker.

Review 30:Location
