Reviews for Riad D'or

Review 1:Access to internet only in the reception and in common room outside. The room was slightly noisy (from the street) and with only transparent curtains on the windows. Beds were really hard and uncomfortable.

Review 2:The location is very good, just 5 minutes walk from the main square. The breakfast was rich and served in a warm room. all the building is well kept and is very tipical moroccan style.

Review 3:We followed the google map to the hotel, bumped to another guest who also booked the hotel. Then one men came, open the hotel door but explained to us that the hotel is overbooked and we were arranged to the other part of the same family business. We were led to a horrible riad, spent the night in a dinning rooms sofa. The riad staff told us their part don't list on booking.com. Luckily we found out by a group of guests that it's called Riad Carole N18 Rmila Rue Fatimzahra, Medina, 40000 Marrakech, Morocco . I could go on telling you how bad this riad is. So we managed to pay them only for the night( our passports were taken and we were asked to pay cash for the three nights.) We escaped and managed to book at the last minute on booking.com for another riad in Marrakech.

Review 4:In winter it gets really cold at night, and the heating did not work (the staff managed to fix it after two days though). Staff does not speak English (but are fairly helpful anyway). Cleaning is not too good, and the room is not cleaned every day. The lighting in the room is also quite bad - it is more or less dark in the room...

Review 5:Really cool riad with a very cozy morrocan feel. Great location in the medina. Basic breakfast with fresh juice and different types of bread. Amazing rooftop terrace.

Review 6:It was hard for me to communicate as I don't speak French and no one at the riad spoke English well

Review 7:Beautiful renovated former palace right in the middle of the medina. Breakfast and dinner both delicious.

Review 8:It' one of the best places I stayed in Marokko. A very nice and tastefully decorated Riad in the Medina, the room was spacious, I felt very well there.

Review 9:We booked this place specifically for the pool they promised but uponarrival it became clear that the pictures online are fake. There is nolarge pool with a garden around, only a tub on the roof which wasn'tin use. When I asked the staff where the pool was, and I showed thepictures they have online here, they became very aggressive andunfriendly. They made an excuse that they rebuild the place. As I am anarchitect, I knew there was no place before or after reconstruction, that would have been able to fit such a pool and garden. I find it veryunpleasant to be scammed by this way, and they don't even need it asthe building is really nice like it is. Why need to lie about all kindof extras? The aggressive behaviour of the staff made us leave early. Iwould never ever go back to Riad d'Or.

Review 10:The riad is in a wonderful historic house with nice details fromforgotten times.

Review 11:Larger than usual riad - I believe it comprises two homes that were combined. Beautiful interior filled with artifacts, massive rooftop with impressive view of Meknes. Clean and comfortable, friendly and attentive staff - although very little English spoken, need to know some French. Steps, as always in riads, have uneven treads and risers, so not ideal for seniors or anyone with balance issues. Wifi sketchy (no surprise, it's Morocco), had to access on 1st floor public rooms. Had to pay with cash onsite rather than credit card, which was unexpected - luckily for them, I had the cash on hand. Overall, great place and highly recommend Riad D'Or.

Review 12:The staff was not at the level of the rest of the Riad. Very disappointed how they managed the upgrade we had booked - still not clear that it was a difference. So just take care about how you book!

Review 13:Incredibly beautiful Riad! The dinner in the Marroccan decorated dinning room was like in 1000 and 1 nights. The terrace and the swimming pool on the roof, an unbelievable feeling.

Review 14:Breakfast is not awesome like in the south but really ok

Review 15:Best place by far in my travel in morocco. Meknes is a nice medium city that is really worth it to see. If you stop in this city, dont hesitate to sleep in this gorgeus place. Clean, nice and very charmy.

Review 16:Access to the Internet is only available near the reception.

Review 17:The staff is very helpful. The location is perfect, inside the medina and yet, near the main street where a big parking lot is also located, quite relevant if you're travelling by car. The rooms have exceptionally decorated, and you feel like you are in a true Morocco place.

Review 18:Rooms can be a little bit cold during the night and sometimes there is no hot water.

Review 19:Riad is very beautiful, staff is very helpful and their reception is open over the whole night. Breakfast is also delicious.

Review 20:No wi fi in the rooms. You had to go to the lobby. No hotel safe but we were assured the front door was always closed and locked but that wasn't always the case. We went out for the day and came back to find our room hadn't been made up. They asked for our room key so they could make it up while we were out to dinner (not sure why they didn't have a spare key). When we returned and asked at the front desk for our room key, we were told the key was in the door (ie. Anyone who wanted could have accessed our room). We expressed shock at the key being left in the door. As we approached our room door, one of the guys had run up another set of stairs, grabbed the key and handed it to us just as we got to the door. Not sure how that was supposed to make things better. Seems like the owners sons were left in charge of the place.

Review 21:Lovely place. Good location.

Review 22:There was a smell from drains and it would be difficult to sleep without earplugs.

Review 23:Impressive interiors with nice tiling.Lovely room, nice staff, great views from roof terrace.great location and easy to find.

Review 24:Wifi was only in main lobby

Review 25:The staff was friendly and helpful, the food good, breakfast adequate and building beautiful. I loved the roof views and relaxing at the pool.

Review 26:It would have been good to have known in advance that they required full payment on arrival.

Review 27:Friendly and helpful staff, good food, clean, and with a great view from the terrace. Large comfortable and well decorated room.

Review 28:On thr bed was only a sheet, the thick blankets were very dirty so we only used the sheet which was a little to cold

Review 29:Very kind staf, well spoken English - helped us with finding a store to print boardingpass. Most beautiful riad & room, low price, nice breakfast, fine location, awesome huge bathroom, nice roof terrace and nice small clean swimmingpool

Review 30:Wifi in lobby only

Review 31:Room was nicest in our 2 months in Morocco. Staff totally friendly and helpful. Pool was wonderful and huge rooftop views, comfortable hangout areas

Review 32:The personeel was really friendly. One guy walked with us and the luggage to the shared taxi stand. Nice swimming pool on the roof. We van really recommend this place

Review 33:The riad was beautiful and the terrace with the pool was worth the stay all by itself! Also, being right in the medina was great for quick excursions.

Review 34:A bit tricky to get to, especially in the night

Review 35:The view from the roof terrace is amazing and a pool is a real treat. All the old city's sightseeing spots are nearby.

Review 36:Our room was amazing, it was like living inside a piece of art from 1791! Amazing high ceiling, tile work, wooden structure etc. Beautiful hotel that maintains the original and detailed art work!

Review 37:there is no TV , and the wifi don't reach the second floor

Review 38:i loved the Riad so much it was so comfortable and peaceful , no one interrupt you the view was awesome and the staff was so helpful , the breakfast was delicious all kind og breakfast food was there . i will love to go there again and again i recommend it

Review 39:It was very hot in the bathroom and the room was very beautiful, but not ergonomic. I bumped my feet and head all the time.

Review 40:Beautiful riad, perfect for photoshoots. The room was clean and the personnel is very kind and helpful. When we checked out someone from the riad helped us with our luggage and grabbing a taxi. The Riad is in the old medina and nearby all tourist attractions, however not too far from the road (important when you have large suitcases). The breakfast is good, you can sit in the restaurant and the food will be served on your table.

Review 41:Very minor points that prevent the hotel from being perfect. The dinner set menu was fair, with portions being a bit small. The toilet door did not have a lock or close properly. The room door was old and had a gap through which the room can be seen from the outside (if someone happens to peek...). Megaphones with prayers went off at 5AM for nearly 1 hour straight (they sounded as loud as if they were inside, or next to, the Riad).

Review 42:The Riad is absolutely beautiful, its interior is just like a famous Medersa of arabic architecture and decoration. It is a huge building with a maze-like interior, making up for a very unique experience. The room was very large and traditionally decorated. The location is perfect, easily reachable from the main square, with car parking just 5 min away. The staff is nice, humble and welcoming. The terrace is also amazing, huge in size and unique in structure, with a very nice (although small) swimming pool and an amazing view of the city and surrounding mountains. Definitely an amazing place to stay in Meknés.

Review 43:The wifi only works at the reception. Would be nice to have a tv in the room and fruit at breakfast.

Review 44:The swimming pool is great to chill after a day exploring the city! The riad is gorgeous, clean and very easy to find. The room was very big and charming. Good breakfast. The best spot we have stayed in Morocco!

Review 45:It would be nice if someone there spoke even a little English. Not muchhospitality or help..often, no one seemed to be around. I never saw a"manager" or anyone who seemed to be in charge.

Review 46:The place was fascinating…lots of little places to sit andexplore…hidden stairways..the place is quite large but intimate at thesame time and fun to be there. The photo of the pool is not the poolthat is there, though, and was disappointing. But the terraces, placesto sit outdoors and the views were magical.Good, easy to find location.I wish I could have been there longer. Reasonable price too. I likeMeknes more than Fes.

Review 47:The airco was old and gave me a sore throat! The images depicted are not as the real situation.

Review 48:pool is on the roof. Very big riad with a massive roof terrace spanning multiple buildings.

Review 49:Buying my own eggs!

Review 50:I loved my time at Riad D'Or. The location made it really easy to walk around the medina--very safe at night, even for a single woman. The pool was the perfect antidote to the heat and occasional hassle of traveling. Ahmed and the rest of the staff were great (just don't believe him if he says they're out of eggs!)

Review 51:It was a pleasant stay indeed, because the location, interiors and service were on top. The Hotel is designed in Maroccan Style: a lot of stairs, sudden living rooms or halls or terraces, everything looking tidy and cozy. Small swimming pool on the rooftop.

Review 52:The air conditioning in the room didn't work. There were no towels in the room. The shower wouldn't drain. The beds had only a bottom sheet and a pillow with a sham, no top sheet or pillow with pillow case. Due to these issues, we decided to go to another place, but the Riad wanted us to pay more than he one night. I was not happy.

Review 53:The bed was slightly uncomfortable and over night, there was some noise owing to the location.

Review 54:The Riad was beautiful and in a great location in the medina near all of the main attractions. The staff we're helpful and friendly and the breakfast was plentiful and delicious consisting of pastries, bread, preserves, eggs and fruit.

Review 55:The riad was beautiful: large, labyrinthine and mysterious with well-furnished chambers and halls, and it has the most wonderful terrace of all the places we stayed in Morocco. It's well-situated within the medina, and the staff were all extremely helpful and kind. Highly recommended.

Review 56:mosquitoes in the courtyard, had over 30 bites next morning since I left the window open

Review 57:Staff was very friendly and helped me arrange a few things. Easy to find Room was really big Terasse on the rooftop had lovely view where one can watch the storks sore above ones head Dinner in the Riad was also good

Review 58:Although the renovations made it so that the first room they showed me had some plumbing smells, they switched me to a room that didn't as soon as I mentioned it.

Review 59:I genuinely enjoyed my stay in Meknes due in part to my stay at Riad d'Or. Not too hard to find but right in the medina, its location made it a great base for exploring. The room was quite clean and they provided towels and great smelling bath products. All the rooms are beautifully decorated and it feels like a palace. The staff was very nice, offering tea, Moroccan pastries, information and even driving me to the train station after my stay. The price I paid on Booking.com was peanuts compared to how much I loved my stay here. Also, the included breakfast is huge and delicious, you'll get to taste all types of Moroccan breads and real homemade jams, like fig jam WITH YUMMY CHUNKS OF FIGS!!!! :) I definitely recommend this place!

Review 60:The odor from the bathrooms are a shame. S bends in the pipes are non existent and can sometimes cause sewage smells. Bearable though.

Review 61:We loved the beautiful terrace seating area, the restaurant was great and the friendly helpful staff were a bonus. Once the pool area is finished, it will be hard to find a better Riad.

Review 62:Wifi only worked on the ground floor and not with too many people at the same time. That wasn't a big issue for us, but it's good to be aware off. And too bad the swimming pool was just being extended when we were there. The girls were disappointed since they had been looking forward to swimming on the roof.

Review 63:Staff were very helpful. She showed us all the highlights on a map. We had a great dinner (one of the best in Morocco) in the riad and breakfast is good too. Our apartment was on the top floor with our own terrace. At night we could sleep with open windows/doors and didn't have to use the airco.

Review 64:On site restaurant and pool under re-construction. My room was very sparsely decorated.

Review 65:Friendly and helpful staff, home-like riad in the medina, close to the "action" and restaurants in the main square. Easy to get to Volubilis and Moulay Idriss by car, and the staff arranged a car with driver for me.

Review 66:some renovations happening with the roof top pool but we would definately stay here again.

Review 67:The building is amazing. Location in the old part of town and parking not to far away. We were able to ride our motorcycle up a very narrow alley to unload our luggage before parking locally for very little cost. staff and breakfast very good.

Review 68:We were surprised we couldn't pay with a credit card (kindly, the staff managed to use my credit card using the machine of another hotel - in the ville nouvelle). The hotel was under renovation and we couldn't use the pool (we had chosen this riad for the pool; but to be honest it would have been too cold to use it, and one of our sons was sick anyway...). Several things were a bit run down, which is a shame as it makes the riad look bad (in the bathroom for example)

Review 69:Located in the medina, the riad is a maze of steps that sets the atmosphere right. We had a large bright room (actually 2 rooms) with a terrace. The staff is kind and willing to help.

Review 70:The staff was nice but the communication and the welcome treatment was very poor. There were no extra blankets in our room and one bed hadn't even one, at night we suffered the cold (we went in April). The Wifi connection was very bad.

Review 71:The breakfast was excellent and very abundant. The riad and the terrace were nice and the design really tasteful.

Review 72:We had rooms in the old part which was really great. Rooms in the newer part are more standard.

Review 73:The Riad is authentic historic building from 1791, kept very well and renovated with taste. Nice staff, good breakfast and dinners.

Review 74:Our rooms were scattered in the riad and it was hard to get our luggage in the narrow stairs. The wether was very cold and it was so cold in the rooms. Bed was hard and not comfortable.

Review 75:Staff were helpful and showing us around. Breakfast was good

Review 76:- Wifi was not available in the room. Only from the first floor. - The TV was not working. - Don't go to the Omnium Restaurant if they recommend you to go. The food is horrible and very very expensive. Don't go in any case. You will eat much better on the street than in that place (although the people was nice, the "harira" was very bad - one of the worse we've tried along the trip - and we found a hair on the "pastilla"). When we arrived to the hostel, we advised about it and they offered a meant shisha, plenty of dried fruits, olives, orange juice and martini everything for free. Thanks to the stuff we almost forgot about the dinner. :)

Review 77:Great location, nice rooms at a good price, nice people, almost everything was perfect.

Review 78:Nothing.

Review 79:Very good breakfast with delicious honey, huge rooftop, very kind staff (even writes you small notes for the cab if you don't speak French/Arabic), located in center of Medina, spacious rooms, good wifi.

Review 80:Shared bathroom, hard to find first time, you need someone to take u there from main square, but everybody knows where it is. Once u are there is no problem next time to find it.

Review 81:Kind staff, location in center of old medina, close to everything, reachable by local bus from airport for 1.5 eur/person, nice roof, good breakfest. Ectually, we got what we expected for such price.

Review 82:No hot wather befor they turn on the agregat in the morning.

Review 83:Super location-you can see sunrise in desert from your bed! The real location is about 7km before Merzouga village! You will se the sign on your way! Nice and kind staff!!!! Quite location!

Review 84:The only downside was that wifi was available only in the tea room, near the reception.

Review 85:The best Riad we stayed at, no doubt. The room was spacious and confourtable, the terrace beautiful, the food amazing, and the breakfast unbelievably good. You might need help finding it the first time, but after that it's easy to find.

Review 86:It would be wonderful if rooms have wifi too.

Review 87:It was well located and very cheap amazing riad hotel. Me and my family rent two rooms and they were both morroccon style, clean rooms. Also air condiotining was so nice for cold morroccon night.

Review 88:- no heating in room so pretty cold in Feb, but extra blankets helped - food and water quite expensive (20dh for a bottle)

Review 89:- beautiful riad!! - nice location

Review 90:wrong air conditioning we had to use the bathroom heater to warm up the room, therefore bathroom was freezing. Many little details not working, missing bulb in wall lamp, water drainage clogged.

Review 91:The riad is easy to find and good location. Good breakfast. A good view from the terrace but many unfinished things

Review 92:The heating was a bit loud which is not optimum if you want to heat during the night, but this is just being picky.

Review 93:The riad is absolutely beautiful, staff extremely nice, professional and attentive, breakfast is delicious and very generous.

Review 94:Heating was not working. Most of the facilities were not in usable conditions, e.g. kitchenette, refrigerator, many light fixtures, even sattelite tv. Wi-Fi signal does not reach the rooms. The property is a maze.

Review 95:Large rooms, rich decor. Very close to the medina center.

Review 96:Wifi only in the tea room.

Review 97:Great value for money. The room and bathrooms were incredibly spacious. Felt like we were staying in a way more expensive hotel.

Review 98:We liked everything.

Review 99:The room was huge, very nice, although a bit cold in the winter(the weather was cold too). The breakfast was superb, and the location couldn't be better. Staff was nice and helpful, even if their english was not good. The best stay on our trip :)

Review 100:Welcomed with tea on arrival. Huge breakfast of breads and spreads. Wifi works well but only in common lounge area. Building is absolutely stunning, felt a bit like royalty staying there!

Review 101:everything was enough better for me

Review 102:the service provided was so god stuff so friendly ,, hospitality completely satisfied ,, the location was in center of the old city plus the new city was near by 15 minute walking,, the view from terrace upstairs amazing,,

Review 103:Dinner was underserviced (took them 20mins to take our order and then another 20 to bring a can of sprite!) and when we asked for them to book a taxi to fez, the guy who runs the place blatantly tried to rip us off. (By about a 1000% of what it should be!)

Review 104:Great location and the place itself is beautiful

Review 105:The only real negative was that communication in English was limited, although it was good enough to get through the basics.(I guess that is more my problem for not speaking any French!)

Review 106:Nice and peaceful stay, beautiful building, decent breakfast, staff were very pleasant.

Review 107:It was very cold during the night, no heaters in the room, but the guy came up with a heater when I asked him. They added 15 euro taxes for 3 nights which I did not know anything about. 5 euro for each night. The hygiene was not maybe the best, so I cought the flue.

Review 108:I liked the breakfast and the tea was very delicious, Faizal was very helpful and the girl in the black dress in the reception was very kind and helpful, and polite.

Review 109:There is a crazy amount of steps that you could almost get lost in the riad. Finding the riad could be a little tricky, so keep looking up and around for the signs that point you in the right direction. Sometimes the rooms get a little stuffy, but AC is available.

Review 110:If you want a Moroccan riad that fulfills fantasies, Riad D'or does just that. It's close to the medina ("old city"), but located in a fairly quiet area. The bed was luxurious and comfortable and the bathroom was wonderful.

Review 111:the only thing is that staff dont speak english, but it wasnt big problem

Review 112:Very beautiful riad, with one of the best terrace i ever seen. Great food and very kind staff. Room was nice clean and very comfortable

Review 113:Nothing- it was just great!

Review 114:This Riad has the wow factor- the architecture, the furniture, the art pieces. The food is really good and the service is with a friendly smile in a restaurant that is absolutely beautiful. It is very well positioned, easy to find and quiet. A wonderful experience to stay here.

Review 115:The new part of the house is not easy to use. The roof terrace is difficult to reach and partly not well maintened. It took time to agree with the modified rate , we had to a suppositely newer 'upper class room'

Review 116:Traditional house style, very central location, breakfast served in a nice room.

Review 117:The place is amazing, beautifully reatored and surprisingly big! When we visited in October the police was closed and there was no service on the terrace but still, the roof top tarrace is impressive! The only but is the stuff, nobody there speaks English, their have a huge mess in reservations, their slow and unable to give you any touristic advice...and smile a lot... Without solving anything!!! Still, I would recommend it!

Review 118:Staff not very friendly and the guy we met in the evening could not speak english..

Review 119:The riad is huge. Beautiful common areas and the breakfast room, the terrace is very large and the rooms are nice and big. The breakfast is good.

Review 120:it was all good - I missed nothing

Review 121:a lovely place in the middle of the Medina, nice people runnign the place, beautiful room and roof terraces with view over the city. 100% recommendation

Review 122:I have been charged an extra amount for the reason of arrived to the reception two minutes after the hour of departure. not cool

Review 123:Everything! the house is amazing, very clean, very unique, the best hotel i stayed in Morocco. Next to the center of everything. very easy to park the car...

Review 124:The service easily made up for any minor shortcomings, for example the narrow and steep winding stairs.

Review 125:Our hosts provided us outstanding service throughout our visit. A highlight was listening to the call to prayer on the top balcony.

Review 126:It's a pity that such a beautiful Riad is being so badly kept, soon refurbishment will be needed, else it will become impossible to stay here.

Review 127:Breakfast.

Review 128:Pool was dirty there was a clump of hair floating Not very attentive staff although they were genuine nice people just need to train them well I guess.

Review 129:We prefer meknes than Marrakech Lovely decor very detailed Dinner was yummy try the goat tagine

Review 130:Breakfasts are very basic. Staff is a little slow. Dinner in the riad is not worth the money.

Review 131:It is a very well renovated building, so if you want true moroccan riad, it is a perfect choise. Very nice tarrace with a pool and good ac rooms.

Review 132:Staff didn't seem to interested in anything to do with us. Expected us to accept an unlocked room at all time due to broken lock. Big language barrier.

Review 133:Good location Great breakfast Beautiful riad with pool

Review 134:I was disappointed by our room. The pillows on the bed had no covers, the AC had only 2 settings - off or blast, the TV didn't work, and the curtains covering the windows were paper thin so the light shone through, and as people walked by at night and turned on the landing lights, we kept being woken up. The bathroom was extremely basic and the lack of ventilation meant the whole room smelt a little stale; not unusual for riads, but this one had such good reviews I expected something a bit better. You really do get what you pay for sometimes!

Review 135:The riad itself was beautiful, probably the nicest I've stayed in (and I've stayed in a lot!) The service was good and we really enjoyed the very reasonably priced evening meal. Breakfast also plentiful and good - if a little carb heavy. Under 5 minutes' walk from the main square and quite easy to find, so very conveniently located. And so cheap!

Review 136:Where to start....: - no air con in room - no toilet paper in room - no Internet connection in room - we asked for 3 separate beds, received confirmation but did not get them - rude staff at reception - very very poor breakfast I'll never put a foot in this Riad ever. Awful value for money compared to all the others I've been.

Review 137:Can't think of anything...

Review 138:Staff sucks, rooms were incredibly hot and stuffy. Zero local knowledge,I asked the receptionist for info about a few locations and they knewnothing!! About them.

Review 139:Place has nice feel to it, with a maze of rooms in an ancient riad. Itfelt like it peaked about 10 years ago and has been falling from graceever since
