Reviews for The Wine House Hotel - Quinta da Pacheca
Review 1:Further to the not-so-good experience with the night gentleman receptionist, the waiter was also lacking in charm. He was polite but wore a serious face and made us feel like we have to behave well and be serious vs. we are on vacation, have a good time and enjoy the moment. We took the deluxe accommodation but still, we did not have a view of the river, quite disappointing.
Review 2:It has a old world charm and the day lady receptionist was very nice (but the night gentleman receptionist was exactly the opposite and was snotty); the lady tourist guide was also very nice and informative.
Review 3:The breakfast could be a little better
Review 4:Beautiful design and surroundings. Beautiful large antique room. Great location. Very hospitable staff. Very much recommended
Review 5:We ordered the Superior Double Room. Huge nice room. Huge bathroom. Clean. Very rich breakfast with views over the vineyards. The farm (quinta) is very nice. And as a guest of the hotel you get a free wine tasting tour (recommended).
Review 6:May have been the time if year, but it was a little too quiet. Lots of guests over 50.
Review 7:The grounds were absolutely beautiful, rooms were really nice, great restaurant. My favorite was our tour and the Port!
Review 8:Very interesting hotel, part of a Quinta with wines and port that are excellent. Room was very comfortable albeit a touch sombre compared to the stylish public spaces. The restaurant is elegant and dinner was our best meal in a 10 day trip in northern Portugal. Staff were professional and friendly. Location is easy to find, just outside Peso da Regua
Review 9:Information upon check in was limited unless we asked questions - or at least information in the room (the 'usual' folder of information in hotel rooms was absent as they do not provide these) about the Quinta and its surrounds. Times of restaurant/bar opening, on site wine tours, free bikes, what's around, the history of the Quinta etc would be nice to know rather than saying hello and showing us to our room. Having said that, any questions we did ask the staff were prompt, friendly and on hand to assist which we cannot fault.
Review 10:The superior room was luxury, the food was lovely, we were impressed with the smoked salmon and (free) champagne for breakfast, the surrounds were great as was the staff and the wine tour and treading of the grapes. Try the cheese and port platter in the enclosed glass bar which is located outside (the only bar) which is divine - despite the torrential rain we had, it was a wonderful overnight stay.
Review 11:The AC was broken in our room and we were given a small fan at 1am by a gardener (the only staff we were able to find to complain about the heat and broken AC). Unfortunately we were not able to relax as much as we wanted because it was really hot. As we mentioned the incident to a staff when we were checking out the next morning, there were no apologies. We were a bit disappointed.
Review 12:Property is beautiful and you get to enjoy the vineyards, and view of the river. Room was beautiful and very comfortable. Breakfast was amazing! Wine tasting and experience was great.
Review 13:The reception we had upon arrival was a bit cold and not very informative. We had to “dig” for info about the hotel, the guided tours, etc. Besides that, staff was always quite helpful.
Review 14:The wine tour and tasting was very well conducted. Dinner at the restaurant was great. The breakfast was excellent too, with great views over the vineries Lovely surroundings.
Review 15:Nothing. It really is a fabulous hotel.
Review 16:Rooms were absolutely beautiful, better than 5 star! lovely to be able to stay in a wine & port estate, and to have a tour from a knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide. Dinner was delicious! A very welcoming spot for our children - they loved cycling around the estate, lounging in the hammocks, and being made feel special in the dining room. Look forward to returning (when the swimming pool is finished!), but hope they don't get too big and lose the boutique feel and personal touch
Review 17:-not so easy to find (not Lamego but Chambres) -price/quality from the dinner is not Always on the same level.
Review 18:-you feel at home -big room with all the comfort you can imagine -special experience to stay at a Quinta
Review 19:Staff was quite difficult to find when coming to check-in or check-out.
Review 20:Nice room. Free wine tour in their cellars. Good restaurant for dinner and breakfast.
Review 21:The food in the hotel restaurant did not make everyone happy. The goat and veal were dry and cooked poorly. The cod was tasty . Presentation was nice. Really a shame because the dinner at the restaurant was the only disappointment The wine was great!
Review 22:Picturesque vineyard with immaculate rooms, modern hotel amenities and wonderful staff. We enjoyed relaxing on the beautiful grounds, walking through the colorful gardens and touring the wine cellar The wines were fantastic!
Review 23:1 hour waiting for our dinner (served white wine without cold keeper). Rice from night before on the floor at breakfast time. Talked about a the wine tasting tour on the arrival and when we asked, answered there was no available group (if it was difficult due to plenty of people, why didn't they told us to book?)
Review 24:Garden, sights, wine, present for our kids at departure.
Review 25:Sucj a short stay......
Review 26:The staff made our stay wonderful!!! They were always there to help us whenever we needed. Joana even wrote us a program for our stay at the Douro region. The restaurant and its staff were also excellent!
Review 27:I suggest that they revise their wine prices in the store given that you should naturally expect to buy at least a little bit cheaper directly from them as producers than you would from a distributor/retailer 300km away in Lisbon (which is not what's happening). Quite disappointing – as it doesn’t take such a big effort and keeps them from looking as a kind of rip-off for tourists in wine sales.
Review 28:Excellent hotel in a beautiful location. Top service with an amazing restaurant (and a very good deal with the half-pension) and a good price / quality level. The wine tasting is a must do – the guys involved and their respective explanations are of very good quality. Will definitely go back.
Review 29:restaurant is a bit over-priced a kettle would be nice in the room we didn't have hot water the first morning but got it in afternoon
Review 30:great bed very calm the hotel design is nice (but the green walls in the restaurant) visit of the wine making process was very interesting taking a bath in the big bath tube ! breakfast buffet is great walking in the vineyard directly from the hotel
Review 31:The squid stew chosen by some of our friends was rather tasteless and unappetising, whereas other items from the menu were excellent, particularly the veal steak.
Review 32:The ambience of the hotel surrounded by its own vineyards was delightful. The staff were absolutely charming, the food generally excellent and not too expensive. The bedrooms extremely comfortable. We very much enjoyed our stay.
Review 33:Allthough the diner was great, some ingredients could have been better.
Review 34:Set in a beautiful location, overlooking the Douro river, surrounded by vineyards, sleeping above the wine processing facilities. The quinta and it's rooms are absolutely gorgeous. Breakfast and diner are very good. Enjoy a glass of wine on the terrace or just take a stroll at sunset in the vineyards. Just great to stay at this quinta!
Review 35:The rooms walls are dirty and rooms are neglected - what a pity for a new hotel
Review 36:Good location (but no river view) Amazing hotel design Big rooms, great bed and bathroom
Review 37:Nothing
Review 38:Excellent value, great location. We stayed for three nights half board and enjoyed the whole experience. The staff were knowledgeable about the area and in particular about the food and the wine of course served in the restaurant. The room was comfortable and very quiet. Definitely a place to return to if we travel in that area again.
Review 39:Wifi was not working on the day we arrived. The staff alerted us and said a technician was coming in the morning to fix it. Other than that the stay was PERFECT.
Review 40:Staff was amazing! We called from the road letting them know we were driving from Madrid and running late and the staff kept the kitchen open a few extra minutes in order for us to have dinner after the long drive. The food at the restaurant was fantastic and the wine was very good. Hotel room was very clean and comfortable and likely the best night sleep we had on the entire vacation. Wine House grounds were beautiful and the next day staff gave us a wine tour and tasting. We would love to return for a longer stay and highly recommend this to anyone traveling to the Douro Valley.
Review 41:The check in and check out arrangements were unusual but seemed to work. We did get a little lost finding the place.
Review 42:The Wine House Hotel exceeded our expectations. Our room was spacious and beautifully appointed and in fact the whole complex gives a sense of comfortable quality. The grounds are very attractive, well maintained and there is a range of places to relax outdoors. The winery adds interest. We enjoyed our dinner in the intriguing green dining room.
Review 43:Nothing we didn't like
Review 44:Helpful, enthusiastic staff-excellent English. Relaxing ambience. Beautiful breakfast. Modern accomodation plus dining-room. Lovely setting.
Review 45:No internet x48hrs because of "problems with weather", it was fine on morning of departure. TV with blurred image. Only 1 channel in english (sky news). No table&chair for writing or computer use, even as we were in a superior room. No good reading light. Reception staff were out of the area (invisible) most of the time. No tea/coffee set in room. No daily press in Hotel. Restaurant: asked for the bottle of wine to be left on our table and it was denied. I like to have the bottle on the table so that I can serve me whenever I want, don´t like waiter to be always interfering filling the glasses and leaving wine at the bottle in the end, should have decanted it in that case.
Review 46:wine Pacheca colheita has a very good price-quality the wine shop breakfast
Review 47:Seems to be popular for weddings. Try to get top floor as its hard to sleep with people walking above you.
Review 48:Beautifully restored vineyard home where is abounds. Complimentary port as you enter. Room was immaculate with a great bed. Best bathroom on trip. Great lunch at restaurant
Review 49:A bit remote location
Review 50:It was so peaceful and extremely tastefully decorated. Virtually brand new construction with all the NA comforts. The rooms were very attractive and the dining room also had excellent ambiance.
Review 51:The wi-fi didn't work during my stay. The answer when we asked at the front desk was always dismissive.
Review 52:The best wine tour, an average restaurant, but strategically ppsitioned at the beginning of wine route between Régua and Pinhão!
Review 53:The only downside on our stay was that one of the waiters did not pay proper attention in the restaurant, resulting in that we had to specifically ask if they could pour wine/water in our glass several times during dinner. The other waiters did a splendid job.
Review 54:Location, wine tour with tasting, the food in the restaurant
Review 55:The quality of the food served in the restaurant is not really on a par with the wines of the Quinta and is a bit overpriced. There's no pool, which would be a welcome addition in the rather hot summer days.
Review 56:Great historic place in a beautiful setting. Very friendly and helpful staff. The tour around the property and it's cellars is very interesting and you get the chance to taste their excellent wines and ports. The bicycles that are freely available to tour the wine fields make for a great activity and unique experience.
Review 57:Due to hotel policy, there was no reception. It was OK, but need to wait for some staff coming. Breakfast was ordinal. I expected more because dinner was so amazing... Need to add minibar in the room. There was no shop around the hotel.
Review 58:The room was very nice and comfortable. The restaurant was amazing!!
Review 59:Nothing!
Review 60:Amazing place! Excellent service, a perfect hide-away. Breakfast and dinner are upmarket. Bathrobes in individuell sizes... what else do you want?
Review 61:Wonderful, beautiful, picturesque estate. Loved the property, staff were very nice and the wine tasting staff stayed late for us as we arrived late. Beautiful views--highly recommended.
Review 62:restaurant wasn't as good as the hotel
Review 63:beautiful hotel on beautiful vineyard grounds
Review 64:Nil
Review 65:Beautiful surronding! Lots of grapes at vineyards around! Nice and comfortable room! Good breakfast and dinner!
Review 66:The place was beautifully restored and extremely comfortable.
Review 67:Restaurant prices high
Review 68:Beautiful facility and staff
Review 69:Power went off in the morning but wasn't a problem .
Review 70:Great grounds, wine tour included and free wine tasting.
Review 71:It doesn't have a bar to relax in.
Review 72:The bed was very comfortable. Food outstanding
Review 73:Could have more service as gym, spa, etc
Review 74:Location, structure, landscape, restaurant
Review 75:Missing a swing pool. Noise from upper floor rooms
Review 76:Nice location. Nicely recovered. Quite friendly staff
Review 77:The quietness the thought that had gone into everything. Would recommend this hotel.
Review 78:A wonderful staff ready to assist with any request and a gorgeous setting. Just sorry we didn't plan a longer stay.
Review 79:Friendly helpful staff. Great tour of the winery. Food in restaurant wonderful.
Review 80:We liked everything! Friendly and helpful staff, really good wine and port, delicious food, and a wonderful location.
Review 81:Não teve o que eu não gostasse!
Review 82:Conheçer a vinícola?
Review 83:Comfortable bed
Review 84:the food in the restaurante is not the same level of the hotel, could be a lot more interesting
Review 85:very charming hotel with fantastic location
Review 86:Everything!
Review 87:Could not always find staff.
Review 88:Beautifully decorated quiet rooms. Lovely grounds.
Review 89:Beds and pillows were not very comfortable to sleep, breakfast was poor, no service at breakfast, poor choice
Review 90:Location, hotel design, service
Review 91:No
Review 92:Free wifi and free car park provided. Beautiful room and hotel decoration. Dinner is just OK.
Review 93:Everything was great :-) And we will like to recomment it to others
Review 94:Regretted not spending longer than 1 night!
Review 95:This place I could not fault on anything!
Review 96:Great luxuary in all aspects to an acceptable cost
Review 97:None
Review 98:A surprise in the middle of the wine yards. A beautiful house, very welcoming stuff. We had a nice dinner and the breakfast had a good choice of buffet.
Review 99:The address they gave would not work with the GPS, and in consequence I spent ages trying to find it. please tell them to give directions when you send the confirmation.
Review 100:Superb in every respect. Beautiful, quiet location in the wine country, nice free wine-tasting too.
Review 101:Nothing to dislike
Review 102:Close to perfect with brilliant service. The Wine House was a relaxing retreat surrounded by warm, friendly and helpful staff. Our room was spacious and the food and wine delicious. Highly recommended.
Review 103:The site is very beautiful surrounded by a nice wineyard. A very nice place to rest for a few days. Unfortunately we only stayed for one night. Staff was extremely kind. Rooms were large, clean and comfortable. Dinner at hotel's restaurant was fantastic! We highly recommend this hotel!
Review 104:A fantastic experience at Quinta da Pacheca, with a great confort, a wonderful surrounding, the sympathy of the staff and a wonderful wine experience. Fantastic!
Review 105:Although somewhat off the beaten path, whereelse would you find awinery/ vineyard? Online maps and hotel signage enabled us to findthe hotel with no problems.
Review 106:Outstanding boutique hotel with exceptional accommodations. Our room wasluxurious and provided a panoramic view of the surrounding vineyards.Great dining in the onsite restaurant, both dinner and complimentarybreakfast. Wonderful staff and informative winery tour.
Review 107:Would have loved fires in the fireplaces this beautiful autumn evening.
Review 108:Fabulous facility, combining modern architectural elements with nice antique furniture. Clean, comfortable and relaxing. Courteous and very friendly staff.
Review 109:Rooms are spacious - but no chair in my room; no bar service available between 5pm and 7:30 pm- lack of ambiance it was last week in Oct... light the fire... do something to attract guests to mingle... like a tasting before dinner .. or after dinner etc... food is good but my duck was boiled with no effort to braise the skin and melt the fat underneath... has great potential.. but does not meet the expectation
Review 110:Dinner is only served in the restaurant not outside.
Review 111:Beautiful (still producing) wine estate, tasefully decorated andconverted into a small intimate hotel. Breakfast very delicious. Quiet. Not far from famous DOC restaurant and within easy reach (1.5h drive) from Porto.
Review 112:One expects mosquitoes in the countryside but I didn't expect to see so many dead ones squashed on the ceiling and walls. Before realizing they were dead( I unhappily thought I was going to be a "mosquito happy meal". That should really be cleaned up. Also the broken chair should be removed from the room. My husband took quite a tumble. There is really no more glueing possible. Without these minor hiccups, the room would have been perfect.
Review 113:The location is exceptionally nice. We enjoyed walking through the vineyard to the river. The room as well as the common areas are tastefully decorated. We were offered a small wine tasting tour which was done by a very nice and outgoing lady. The staff was generally very friendly. We arrived around lunch time and had such a nice meal we decided to have dinner there as well.
Review 114:Nothing. A swimming pool might have been nice to take advantage of the beautiful weather and surroundings after a day running around the area. However, not a necessity by any means.
Review 115:We liked just about everything about this hotel and the services provided. The room was spacious and nicely appointed and the conversion from the original farmhouse is beautifully done. Still rustic, but also designer modern. The staff were without exception excellent. The location is also perfect for access to all the main douro river destinations. We were sorry to leave!
Review 116:The host Gustavo made the stay pleasant and welcoming from the start when he came to receive us outside. Beatiful setting combining tradition (old tradition!) with modernity and efficiency without any rush.
Review 117:Very friendly staff. They work honestly to make your wishes come through Fantastic view from the room Nice nature. You can walk to the river through the wine fields A tour to the wine cellers and taste of their white, red and port production is included in the price for the room Breakfast is homemade and very tasty The room is big and nicely decorated. The beds are confortable.
Review 118:A wonderful place to relax for a day or more. The quinta has a modern and very tasty design, in combination with traditional surroundings and service. It has a perfect location for excursions in the Douro valley.
Review 119:I loved everything about this Inn. Very comfortable and top of the line in every category: grounds, accommodation, bath, bedding/linens. Also, had one of the best meals of our entire trip to Portugal. Dinner will cost you about the same as overnight accommodations but I think it was worth it. We also purchased some of their port and a reserve red. Can't wait to open them!
Review 120:People, food
Review 121:Staff were charming and very helpful - if you go during harvesting you could actually get your feet wet stamping on grapes!
Review 122:The rooms; comfortable, spacious and beautifully decorated.
Review 123:Friendly staff, excellent breakfast
Review 124:There was nothing NOT to like!
Review 125:Absolutely everything.....maybe breakfast or coffee served a little earlier than 8:30.
