Reviews for Zagorodny Hotel Baykal
Review 1:Location is fantastic, it's a good bit away from the village centre (yes village, not a town, I don't care what anyone says) but a taxi there will cost you maximum 200 roubles (2000 to go to Irkutsk) and it means you don't have the noise that comes with Russian day trippers and weekend tourists. It's an oasis of tranquillity with an amazing view. That being sad, it's not all great so whether to go depends on your priorities. The building is old so could do with a lick of paint, the furniture is old but that communist style has its charm, the carpets are old and old carpets are impossible to clean. The rooms are comfortable (get one with a lake view balcony, most have it anyway) and clean, except for the stains in bathroom and carpets, that can't be helped, but nothing too bad. Staff is difficult to rate cause there were so many, some really friendly, others not so much, some speak English, others not so much, some seem competent, others not so much. I had my laundry done, paid extra for ironing, got them back, folded in a stupid way, then stuffed in a plastic bag, totally defeating the purpose of ironing. The restaurant downstairs is not bad, just don't take the baked fish, it's not baked. Menu has English translation, obviously with a few errors. Breakfast is served in the same place, included in the price and really good, plus you'll be given a choice of what you want the night before. So all in all: it's not perfect but very good value for your money.
Review 2:It would have been nice to have received detailed instructions on how to get to the hotel after booking. Booking.com directions doesn't have local knowledge of the route nor does it give previous guests a chance to leave directions. I had trouble finding it. Although the hotel is slightly run down it adds character almost as if stepping back in time of the old USSR. No wifi in the rooms. From irkutsk station get tram 1 or 2 going right as you come out of station. Get off at the Central market about 10 mins ride. Go across the street into what looks like a car park for minibuses. Call out litsvyanka and someone will point you to a minibus about to leave...they leave when it's full. 120 roubles about an hour later you arrive in the area. Don't go to the last stop which is the centre of Litsvyanka. You want to get off at the liminological museum 4kms from centre. Walk 5 mins up and along the road until you come to some steps go up them all until you get to a road. Head right and right again and then straight till you come to a large square looking building which is the Baikal hotel.
Review 3:The price was great compared to other properties in the centre of Litsvyanka. Although the hotel is approximately 4km away from the centre I enjoyed my walk along the lake with great views. I loved my room with a balcony and views of the lake.
Review 4:No soundproofing, you'll hear everything from another rooms and corridor. Sanitary works with problems. Old uncomfortable mattress. Room need renovation, it seems, that last renovation was made in 50s.
Review 5:Baikal view. Normal breakfast. Low price. Вид на Байкал Завтраки приемлемого качества Низкая цена
Review 6:If not arriving to the breakfast when it started, there wasn't much food left after one hour (the staff didn't seem to refill) WiFi only available in the common hall
Review 7:The view over Baikal lake from the hotel/room was amazing The staff very friendly and helpful, with also basic knowlegde of English
Review 8:The hotel is located around 6 kilometres from the center of Listvyanka and there is only one shop and no restaurants (except in the hotel itself) nearby, so some walking is required. The walk to the hotel from the bus stop of Baykal museum is up a steep hill and there are no clear signs on the road, so it's better to take a taxi or ask the locals for directions. I was also given false information about the connections to Irkutsk from the hotel: there is almost always room in the marchrutkas going from Listvyanka to Irkutsk, so it is possible to get on a marchrutka from the Baykal museum stop, so there's no need to go first to the center of Listvyanka and get on the marchrutka from there.
Review 9:I had a view on the lake from my balcony, which was amazing. I booked a room with a double-bed for one person and think that the price and quality of the room matched quite nicely. Also the breakfast was very nice and varied. The hotel staff was very nice and helpful, but on the other hand I speak Russian, so I am not able to evaluate their English-speaking skills.
Review 10:Absolutely disgusting carpet, bathroom and room overall. Everything is very old, dirty and looks like been there for at least last 50-60 years. Hotel urgently need renovation.
Review 11:the view from the room was amazing. Restaurant is quite nice too, a bit deserted tho
Review 12:clean and best lake view room, nice staff, near to pier, easy to find.
Review 13:Soviet union atmosphere, amazing view, good food
Review 14:Disposal of toilette was not working
Review 15:breakfast
Review 16:somewhat outdated rooms
Review 17:Nice views over the lake, friendly staff, good location if you have a car.
Review 18:The view is magnificent.
Review 19:Should be renovated
Review 20:Great views!
Review 21:Place is quite worn out , carpet full of holes.
Review 22:Friendly staff, peaceful setting between forest and Baikal, lots of space and light in the room
Review 23:Old, very old soviet facilities without restoration in the last 30 years.
Review 24:Nice restaurant! Nice breakfast!
Review 25:A bit far out of town.
Review 26:Views over the lake.
Review 27:Good location, on a little hill in front of the baikal, you can walk around Balcony with view over the Baikal lake! Fridge on the room very good restaurant in the hotel and not expensive Fair price
Review 28:Bathroom tiles were missing from floor. Room not very clean. Hallways not very clean. 3.5km walk or bus into town. Had a small problem with the manager over our booking that Bookings.com sorted for us.
Review 29:We travelled to Listvyanka by road from Irkutz. Whilst the hotel has a stunning location, is close the Baikal Museum and chair lift for another breathtaking view it is a long way into town. The town is 3.5 kms away. You can catch the local buses however it is still a reasonable walk down to the main road. Rooms overlooking the lake have a stunning view. Breakfast was dependant on the day, two days fine and two days very poor. We attended the bar at night, same place as restaurant and the staff were terrific. The Hotel is in need of renovation as it is falling apart. The staff in the dining room were very friendly. However if you want to stay in town do not stay here. If that is not a problem then this place is certainly cheap.
Review 30:Wifi only available in lobby, but no big deal as you could sit on sofas there to use.
Review 31:The location was great, reception staff very helpful, very relaxed atmosphere, great food in restaurant.
Review 32:The room was really small and although we paid an extra 900 roubles to get a renovated room, the room was just 2 doors down, the same size and the beds were the same, just brighter lights and a lighter shade of bed covers. Really a pity as this is an old hotel deserving a much better up grade.
Review 33:The location although a little far from town about 150 Roubles taxi ride each way was beautiful on top of a hill overlooking the lake. One could book a mini bus for 200roubles each back to Irkutsk straight from the hotel. One receptionist in particular, Maria , took the trouble to explain the tour of the lake and where to eat in town.
Review 34:It would have been nice to have had internet access in the room.
Review 35:Staff in the reception spoke very well english and was very helpful and kind. It made a difference to my stay that thing ran smoothly because of that.
Review 36:It's 5km from the town (however there are regular inexpensive buses close to the hotel). If you don't want to eat at the hotel restaurant you'll need to head to the town.
Review 37:Great view of the lake, and close to the cable car if you want to check out the hilltop views also. The staff were very friendly, always ready to help and suggest things to do. Nice restaurant, with lovely buffet breakfast (need 20pax for buffet, otherwise it's a la carte).
Review 38:Furniture is quite old, but it does not damage this hotel's excellence.
Review 39:I went to Listvyanka from Port Baikal via ferry. The hotel is near where I landed.(near Baikal museum) If you choose the same route that I took, this hotel's location is good. View from hotel rooms or restaurant is breathtaking. Friendly staff. Clean room.
Review 40:This hotel is in a very bad shape and seriously needs a rebuild.
Review 41:- far from the city center - old rooms / bathrooms
Review 42:- restaurant - staff - price
Review 43:Description how to go to hotel would be a litle bit better.
Review 44:Location, parking, view, good english of the staff at the front desk, lift, restaurant.
