Reviews for Six Senses Douro Valley

Review 1:Warm, engaging staff. Attention to detail with every encounter and request. Excellent service without being cloying. The views and grounds are fabulous. Breakfast, lunch and dinners were delicious and served to perfection. The spa and treatments were exceptional. Loved every second of our stay, can't wait to return!

Review 2:Beautiful setting. Efficient and charming staff. Excellent breakfast. An amazing and innovative transformation of a property that makes the full use of natural stone, wood and imaginative design.

Review 3:Still lacking the Six Senses hospitality way of being and doing. Room comfort can be improved, specifically Bed confort, and so much tech to handle all range of in-room services gives you a sense of despair due to continuous breakdown of connectivity.

Review 4:Definitely the Location is impressive at Douro Valley allowing travelers to visit local wineries. Food is also excellent and respects local ingredients as we expected from a Six Senses property.

Review 5:the bed

Review 6:I liked everything in this hotel it worth every penny, i live it and sure i will be back again but the only thing i disnt like is the bed thats it.

Review 7:Nothing

Review 8:The location of the hotel The quality of the restaurant The service quality was top notch The overall wine experience

Review 9:Perfect!

Review 10:This is genuinely a quality experience

Review 11:staff and amenities were excellent - difficult to fault in any way.

Review 12:Fantastic spa, great restaurant, beautiful grounds. The best hotel we stayed at during our Portugal trip. Wanted to stay much longer!

Review 13:The TV was blocking several times and we had to call an expert In both ocasions and at the end no one apologize for it. At the arrival there was no Port wine as I asked for. The plates and the glasses should be from Portugal because Vista Alegre and Atlantis Crystal are much better than what the hotel has.

Review 14:The fabulous view and the bedroom (suíte), the quiet and the sympathy of the maiority of the staff.

Review 15:Nothing, we will return

Review 16:The location is just so lovely , the staff, the pool, the spa, our room, the food , the breakfast , the local wine, the boat trip, just excellent

Review 17:Overall style and decor of the hotel are not to my personal taste! Far too dark! One major complaint!! The hotel location map on the hotel website and, therefore, the Booking.com site, is vastly inaccurate. It places the hotel some 40 kilometres from the actual location! We wasted more than 2 hours just trying to find the hotel, and we were not alone. Having stopped at a petrol station to ask for directions, they advised that this happens all the time! When we mentioned this when we finally checked-in, the staff were casual and acted as though it was the first time, but we know it was not! We did not receive any word of apology during our stay. They clearly didn't care and for this reason I would not stay there again, and I would not recommend the hotel to friends. I think that Booking.com should also take more care to check the accuracy of information that is published!

Review 18:Room was super, very comfortable. Bar and restaurant are nice and food at dinner and breakfast was excellent.

Review 19:The inerior colors are depressing, feeling like escape to to the outside, same with dressing colors of staff all in the same depressing interior colors, petty, this is a remark not easy to fix if owners are believe statement is such to provide change of joy

Review 20:High price of meals Some staff were rather off-hand or distant Bathroom areas in rooms are too dark and not very practical

Review 21:The location was beautiful but quite remote Fabulous rooms Excellent spa facilities Very helpful receptionists Great breakfast buffet

Review 22:Well, the architect has never slept in these rooms. Design beats functionality and guest comfort. The hotel floors are so dark, one has trouble to find ways and not stumble. No good placed light in the bathroom to shave. In particular the lightning system is troublesome.

Review 23:Terrific view, beautiful pool and terraces, good food, good starting point for sightseeing trips into the valley.

Review 24:It is definately one of the best hotels we've ever been. Amazing place, fantastic design (both interiors and exteriors), delicious dinner, relaxing pool. We will come back!

Review 25:It is not your average hotel. It is designed to confuse. After my arrival, in its dark colour painted interior, dimmed lights, anti-intuitive light switches and water/shower taps, i spent quite some time in solving puzzles here rather than relaxing in this unfamiliar territory.

Review 26:both indoor and outdoor swimming pools are amazing. Garden and patio areas have breathtaking view of the Duoro Valley. Staff were very friendly.

Review 27:Rooms a bit dark and controls for lights and blinds a bit complicated but not a big problem.

Review 28:Loved the setting - beautiful views from River View room - nice pool, excellent restaurant and bar and all staff very friendly and helpful. Would definitely return.

Review 29:Simple things in room like hooks for towels and lighting at sink for make up for ladies and shaving for men. Quite aggravating. Should I throw my wet towel on the wooden floor after spa or shower?

Review 30:Food was excellent at dinner and breakfast with very nice staff. Spa and pool lovely.

Review 31:The lighting system in the rooms was difficult to adjust to our desires.

Review 32:This is a beautiful facility in a gorgeous part of the country. The staff was excellent and the food in the restaurant was delicious.

Review 33:Overpriced for Portuguese standards if you look what you are getting for. Suite bathroom worn out / looking dirty. Low on staff members so service not very fast.

Review 34:Beautiful hotel in awesome location

Review 35:The temperature in the room was a little bit high during the night. In addition, the bathroom could have a little bit more privacy, but this is a personal opinion and does not affect the general appreciation we had of our stay.

Review 36:The staff was very kind and made us feel welcome. The fact that we we're given an upgrade (room with access to spa to a suite overlooking the river) was also a nice surprise. Waking up in the morning with a view to the Douro was memorable.

Review 37:Food very expensive. Spa treatments very expensive. I think with the price of the hotel/rooms (that are exceptional) so high the spa treatments for staying in the hotel clientes should be cheaper.

Review 38:You're given a manual to understand the lighting system in your room. The bath tub is out in the open, the toilet has a glass door as does the shower --so zero privacy in the room. Hallways are dark, oversize furniture is uncomfortable. The room numbers on the floor right outside the door are either red or white. If the number is red the room won't be made up. Nobody explained how to turn off that light. Breakfast service was inattentive.

Review 39:Location spectacular. Friendly staff

Review 40:Slightly over-designed, dodgy muzak in the lifts...not much to complain about really!

Review 41:Lovely setting, great facilities, brilliant breakfast, delightful staff.

Review 42:outside pool is not heated (solar energy ..); inside pool (spa) can only be used until noon with small kids

Review 43:Friendliness of staff; our villa was enormous (twice as big as our own back home); pool area (inside) is very nice, clean and modern; beautiful walking around the hotel in the wine yards; organized boat trip on the river

Review 44:Lighting levels in the library and bar area were not really sufficient if you wanted to read

Review 45:Location, friendliness and professionalism of staff. My wife and I had a massage and my wife also had a facial. The staff in the spa were very professional and did a great job.

Review 46:Design was unbelievable, but the details were forgotten : electricaloutlets, lighting much too somber; no nighttable; cushions left outsidein rain and then "looked dry", but weren't (no furtherdetail necessary)food was overpriced and oversalted, even if it was appealing; spa treatments overpriced

Review 47:Design was over the top location for walks and visiting vineyards spatreatments great

Review 48:The light switches in the guestroom are somewhat daunting but instructions are in the room for this and you learn how to use them quickly. The window to the bathroom did not allow toilet privacy.

Review 49:The attention to detail thoughout was very impressive. The gardens are wonderful including the pool. The staff were very kind and helpful as well. The guestroom is very roomy including the bathroom. It is a very sophisticated resort experience right from arrival where they take your car keys and park your car for you and make sure it is returned to you when you need it..

Review 50:The interior corridors of the hotel were very dark in places.

Review 51:Quality of furnishing of room. The location and views were fantastic and the staff and level of service was excellent.

Review 52:The wifi didn't work very well; the lights system in rooms is not practical; access to pool area not very easy, in particular for people with mobility problems; service in pool not good; sauna in spa area didn't work, maybe because there was nobody using the place; breakfast is average for such a nice hotel.

Review 53:The location is excellent, the place is nice and the design is very special, the place offers everything for a great stay, including a nice pool area; spa area very nice; massages are great; welcome port wine;

Review 54:No side tables to bed.

Review 55:Best hotel/ resort that we have stayed in. Magnificent views of douro Valley from bedroom. Very well appointed, food excellent.

Review 56:Decoration is not to our taste. It is very dark inside the hotel and youmay need a lamp to find you way in the hotel even at daytime.Hotel's explanation for the dark decoration concept is toconcentrate on the beautiful landcape outside but the landscape is sobeautiful that you wouldn't miss it even if the hotel were a bitlighter. You cannot find extra towel in the spa. Water taps are verymodern but you get either very hot or very cold water until you discoverhow it works. And the bathtub in the room is meaningless.

Review 57:Exellent location and wiev over the Douro Valley. Confortable and niceview rooms.

Review 58:no commnent all was excellent, maybe a couple of wine glasss in the room would be good.

Review 59:The staff are outstanding, with attention to detail and every effort to make guests feel comfortable and relaxed. The breakfast was execptional, beautiful and healthy food wonderfully presented, I would highly recommend your establishment to others.

Review 60:Expensive and v average food Rooms have see through glass into the bathrooms

Review 61:Nice views and grounds to relax in

Review 62:Amazing View of the Duoro River from the Room.

Review 63:Views

Review 64:Stylish and comfortable

Review 65:Location is gorgeous, food terrific,

Review 66:The view and the room

Review 69:very upscale facility

Review 70:The Lighting was odd, as were the tub/shower in full display.

Review 71:Views were spectacular as was the pool.

Review 72:The temperature of the interior pool was too low.

Review 73:The staff, the amazing location and all the facilities for the hotel.

Review 78:The ideal place to relax and enjoy time with family/friends in a beautiful setting in Douro Valley

Review 80:The atmosphère (light) is very dark

Review 81:very modern, high standard, beautifull view and very up to date facilities

Review 82:Great

Review 83:The view, the comfort, the landscape And the food.

Review 84:Great location, the rooms overlooking the river were spectacular. Thespa was nice. Very special place. Worth going to.
