Reviews for Scandic Ålesund

Review 1:The restaurant was not open in all Christmas time, making it difficult for having a nice dinner.

Review 2:The sauna was looking to the harbor with a wonderful gym. The Breakfast was wonderful and really quiet.

Review 3:The personel was amazing, long time haven't we met such friendly, helpfull and cheerfull people. Breakfest buffet was fantastic - a great variety of food and drinks, the most rich of 4* hotels we've ever been, definately higher standard than average. The most suprising and kind thing about the hotel was a big pot of delicious hot soup waiting for guests in the hall. We could also use a free of charge coffee machine, prepare a tea and have a glass of water with orange or lemon. We recommend the hotel for everyone who appreciates nice, clean, cosy place with warmhearted personel :) Thank you for your kindness and making our holidays a pleasure

Review 4:None.

Review 5:The reception staff were really friendly. Especially enjoyed the complimentary soup & coffee/tea - much appreciated after being walking around outside in the cold.

Review 6:Bed was too soft - had to ask for additional pillows, and the cleaning crew left too few towels. All sorted out quickly upon request.

Review 7:Staff was very accommodating and helpful. Good breakfast. Nice location

Review 8:It is located on the shore on a quiet street, from walking distance to everything. The staff was super welcoming and during our stay we had warm delicious soup in the afternoons (weekdays) and five star breakfasts. Don't miss the gym and sauna. We even borrowed bicycles to wonder in the city.

Review 9:Restaurant staff didn't allow me to leave the restaurant with half a sandwich tha I was eating and that I wanted to keep for eating later intead of putting it in wasted bind but they wanted to charge me or put in the bind

Review 10:Location

Review 11:The rooms really need to be overhalled. Short of staff at breakfast; uncleaned tables and ran out of food several times. Please fix the coffee machine! There should be a tray with bacon

Review 12:The location is excellent and the staff behind the check in/out counter were very friendly and helpsome

Review 13:Externally hotel is quite ugly.....but much nicer on entering. Rooms could do with some updating, in particular bathroom. Restaurant closed on Sunday evenings.

Review 14:Wonderful views from the breakfast room/ restaurant. Excellent breakfast selection each morning. Helpful staff. The Stressless chairs in our room were so comfortable.

Review 15:One bed was broken, but it was replaced within an hour when reported it. So the service was just fine. The room on the street side above the entrance of the hotel can be noisy when busses arrive with lots of guests late in the evening.

Review 16:Simple, standard, good quality hotel. Good service, free bike rental. And a good location in a nice city.

Review 17:Parking was in the building but was at very high price (150 NOK per night)

Review 18:Location. City center on the waterfront. Walking distance to entire warf area and city center

Review 19:Our booking said we could check in from 14:00 but when we arrived at 15:00 we still had to wait for half an hour for our room to be ready.

Review 20:Nice position and just a short walk to town.

Review 21:The hosts were great and provided useful info for our trip (and even downloaded a very useful app on to my iphone), the location was great and the brekky was yum

Review 22:The room was spacious for 3 people. The hotel and the room has a nice atmosphere. The location of the hotel is very central, by the water. Excellent breakfast.

Review 23:Room would have been good for two people, but our pull out bed for the other two was terrible. Unbalanced, at an angle and so unstable it moved every time some one moved or rolled over. Really slow service at dinner. Good food but took a long time to get a mixed up order.

Review 24:Good location and quieter than city center

Review 25:By booking we got information free late check out by 2 pm but on spot reception wished to charge us. No parking facilities. We asked for rent a bike but hotel ignore this question.

Review 26:Out of date hotel, needs serious reurbishing. Pictures misleading compared to what our room actually looked like. Breakfast was just ok.

Review 27:Good location and nice sea view.

Review 28:Rooms are basic - could be renovated to increase the general qualitative perception of this hotel, price-quality could be improved

Review 29:personnel kind and helpful, very good breakfast, nice meals in restaurant, free soup in the afternoon, small shop in the hotel

Review 30:Need more room to unpack luggage. Two bikes is not really enough for the whole hotel so they are not always available. The male bike is pretty uncomfortable after about 15 mins, female bike is good but no gears so hills are tricky. Is great to have access to free bikes anyway.

Review 31:Great central location, amazing views from the superior rooms, superb breakfast with the option of paying 65 SEK if you wanted to pack yourself a lunch from the breakfast food. Two bikes available for free.Free soup between 2 and 4 on weekdays.Lovely staff.

Review 32:There was not enough water pressure in the show which made taking shower a bit of challenge and water temperature was continuously changing.

Review 33:Great location in quieter historic center of Alesund. Everything but shower was great. Top floor had nice view.

Review 34:Parking is very difficult. I wish there is an instruction in large English at the payment station or written instruction at the reception.

Review 35:Breakfast is really great

Review 36:The hotel has a fantastic location, right on the water overlooking the harbour with the city behind. Buffet breakfast was excellent, with plenty of choice, including traditional Norwegian fish dishes. The staff were terrific. They spent a lot of time telling us about things to see in Alesund and helping us with our travel arrangements to our next destination.

Review 37:Nothing!

Review 38:Best location, excellent breakfast ! Smiling and very helpful stuff. A delicious soup, without charge, is served every afternoon . Thank you!

Review 39:The poor quality of the mattress. There was not a free parking zone and the parking was quite expensive.

Review 40:The variety of the buffet in the breakfast. The quality of WiFi

Review 41:Could be some possibility to make tea or coffee in the room.

Review 42:Nice breakfast, very suitable for kids as well. Big choice. Staff friendly, and helps if needed. According our request arranged chocolate for kids for Easter. Complimentary soup from 16:00 to 18:00, what is good news with Norwegian prices. Good location. Big room for a family. Convenient for a city trip.

Review 43:Coffee is not like I am used to. Tiny cups, milk not half and half...but hey! It is Norway, not USA.

Review 44:Bed was extremely comfortable. Breakfast is a bounty! View of the water in lounge and dining is incredible. Best fish soup ever.

Review 45:Rooms not clean (candies, snacks and other remains on the floor), broken tapware in the bathroom, outworn beds and chair in the room(smelly and full of scribblings) - in conclusion far away from what is expected from a 4* hotel and what was the charge for overnight stay.

Review 46:Helpfull staff, good breakfast.

Review 47:we ordered 1 king size bad, but got 2 separate, so we have to spent time convincing reception to take care of it and change beds for us.

Review 48:location is the best, very central, with nice view. friendly staff and very good breakfast.

Review 49:Wifi did not work Fridge stops working when you leave the room (and take keycard) Beds were poor (4th bed was really bad)

Review 50:Breakfast Location in the center, near the waterfront Nice staff at the reception Free soup in the afternoon

Review 51:Rooms are fairly small. Our room with a queen sized bed actually was comprised of two twins pushed together, which meant we sometimes had an annoying crack in the center. I wish dinner went a bit later than 10 in the summer when it stays light out so late.

Review 52:Breakfast buffet is incredible--I wish I could have that at every hotel! The staff is extremely friendly and warm. The rooms with ocean views are totally worth it, especially since you can pull up a chair right to the window and gaze out.

Review 53:The high cost of overnight parking in the hotel car park, and the very limited number of street parking spaces. The breakfast buffet was not up to the standard previous visits had led one to expect.

Review 54:The view of the sea and islands from the dining room. The central location in the old part of town (Aspøy/Brosundet)

Review 55:- Regarding glutenfree breakfast: don't put the glutenfree bread together with the normal bread. A coeliac can't eat it anymore. - Difficult with parking lots, but this is difficult for almost every hotel in Ålesund

Review 56:- Stayed at this hotel before and would do it again. Big rooms for families. - Nice breakfast, With glutenfree options and a nice view. - Quit sone

Review 57:Bathroom was not daily cleaned. Parking in park house is to be paid ahead without knowing whether one wants to leave the car for that period.

Review 58:Friendly staff. Beautifully situated in the Jugendstil quarter. Quiet room with view on harbour. Very rich breakfast buffet. Check-out possibility the night before departure.

Review 59:I booked a family room that sleeps up to four persons - and paid for that room in advance. On arrival there was just an ordinary double room with an extra camping bed. Very inconvenient and not the room I paid for. I did get almost no sleep in the first night. Had to complain twice to get for the other nights the room I paid for. And still got nasty comments at the receptions: you are just 3 persons and not 4, so it is our standard procedure to downgrade you, even I had paid for a family room in advance!!!. Finally after long discussion at the front desk we got what we paid for and a free dinner - but if I had not complained, they would have cheated us for the entire stay. NEVER AGAIN!

Review 60:WIFI worked fine Clean Good Location But all that is worth nothing if you feel cheated!!

Review 61:The room furnishings were sparce. The bathroom, with it's buzzing flourescent lighting and subway tiling, reminded us of a public rest room.

Review 62:Location was great...good views of the city from our room. The morning breakfast was ample with a wide selection of foods and great service.

Review 63:What really frustrated us was the parking when we arrived. The reception desk advised us to try to (public) garage directly under the hotel, and otherwise park on the streets. This garage appeared to have approx. 6 public parking places (all taken), the other 150 or so places were reserved for a company. Streetparking mostly requires a special permit. We ended up asking guidance at the reception desk of another hotel, who informed us of two large public parking garages approx 500 meters from our hotel, directly at the E136. We would have appreciated to get this info right away at the reception desk of our own hotel...

Review 64:Well-located hotel. We stayed in a superior room facing the harbour which was really nice - rooms on other side of the building may be less attractive. Super breakfast with lots of choice - although for a tourist hotel, the 9:30 breakfast closing time is rather early.

Review 65:Car Parking is limited. Although there is a mid-sized multi storey at the back of the hotel, most of the floors are reserved for local business users. If you do not get to the hotel early, the available spaces will all be full. There is other public parking in Alesund, but you may have no option to to park some distance (we were told up to a mile) from the hotel. We were not advised on check-in that if if wanted dinner in the hotel, we must make a reservation. It was our own fault that we didn't, and when we went to the dining room (1900), we could not be seated for then or for any time that evening. The hotel was maxed out with coach parties, and they were all the hotel could cater for, apart from a small segregated area for independent travellers. We were shown the hotel's small shop that had a few chocolate bars and other stuff as an alternative. However, the fish and chip stall on Hellebroa is excellent value for money, and with the rain and gulls, reminiscent of an English seaside resort!

Review 66:Breakfast, though try and deconflict with the coach parties else it's a scrum around the buffet!

Review 67:Staff were so rude on checkin (2 of the 3 who served me) Room to be ready at 1500 not available and told to wait for it until 1930 The dog on the same floor yapped all night & we were allocated to a QUIET SECTION No smoke alarm No parking (contrary to what is advertised - perhaps they need to change the wording) Feedback given to hotel & requested they contact me immediately.. nothing heard Awful stay and would never recommend to anyone.

Review 68:Room decor OK Restaurant OK

Review 69:Room was not clean. Breakfast ended at 9.30 am but at our first morning the waitress refused to refill the strawberry-jam and the water-melon for my children already at 9.10 am. Except from this friendly staff, very good food (!) and a beautiful location.

Review 70:1. UNHELPFUL, MISINFORMING RECEPTION STAFFUnluckily, two times we were given wrong advices or false information regarding sightseeing matter by reception. Staff had no idea about practical aspect of visiting most popuar destinations. They only provide you one folder with the offer of the company they collaborate with, even though its terribly overpriced and not the best one what so ever. So, avoid the reception, if they give you any advice always doublecheck or go to tourist information straight away. When we aked for tips for boat trip to geirengerfjord one of the night porters, firsty, she was trying to find a information online for ab 15 (!) minutes, explaining the internet on reception is very slow, than she gave us wrong cruise details. finally, she said she doesn't know anything about it as she never use any travel companies because she owns a boat. Not so right, provided she's working as a receptionist in one of the most popular among tourist hotel in Alesund.Other time, other receptionist advices us to take a local bus to get to the trollpath, saying its the most convenient way with its max 1 hour long yourney duration. when we get to the terminal we found out its 3,5h one way, so if we would follow the advice we would have spend whole last sunny afternoon in norway on bus...Other time, when we asked simple question about the computer usage (we were using it to download picuters from our cameras), receptionist told us she cant use it herself and she would have to call scandic in sweden.2. ONLY 3 BICYCLES AVAILABLEAnd the hotel has 6 floors of guest rooms. It was almost impossible to reach them, which was not so right given that the hotel mention it as one of its best adventages.3. STEAM ROOMSteaming room was only on between 5pm and 9pm, so it was difficult to reach it if you planned afternoon trip. Morning or evening would be so much more tourist orientated.4.

Review 71:1. Location. Hotel is situated in harbour, accually on the water, providing most picturesque views at aksla (viewing point), northern island and the harbour itself. It was also fairly quiet and pieceful part of the harbour, yet close to the center of the town. 2. Breakfast was really great with its menu variety reaching from pancakes machine, english breakfast, norwegian tastes to fruits and muesli.

Review 72:- see highs - breakfast could have been offered until 10. They clear up immediately at 930. Very limited fruits for such a big hotel

Review 73:Recommodation only for the rooms facing the ocean. We were before placed in a room on the other side facing the Ekornes HO. The heater in the room did not work, the bathroom door had a hole, the whole design of the rooms not facing the ocean is terrible and needs refurbishing/update. We were given a better room after we complained. The other rooms are perfect and very comfortable but there are only a few of them. But it is definitely worth paying extra if required.

Review 74:Helpful staff. Assisted us by allowing us into our room early when we arrived well ahead of checkin time

Review 75:Everything.

Review 76:Free Tea and Coffee .

Review 77:beer price

Review 78:Breakfast, location, staff

Review 106:The roll away cot was not comfortable.

Review 114:We enjoyed our stay at the Scandic Aelesund - the breakfasts are AMAZING!
