Reviews for Little Italy Hotel

Review 1:The kitchen staff were very rude. Firstly, we had problems when we walked in at 9.00am on one of the days, the re-fill took ages. We just had to find somewhere else to have breakfast. The food was somewhat the same for all the days. There is alot of fresh fruits and vegetables in Tonga (the locally grown ones), include this in the breakfast menu. Secondly making people aware of the times of opening and the Sunday arrangement was not really good. We had walked in for breakfast on the Sunday at 9.00am and only to be informed that the staff needed to go to church and if we needed breakfast we should come in early. This defeated all the so called friendliness. Training should be done on this and the staff behavior - of freely conversing with staff needs to be undertaken.

Review 2:I liked the place, the house keeping staff and also the reception. They were all very helpful. The overall trip was good. The driving around Tongatapu and the attractions were a big plus.

Review 3:Loved the location, air con, and especially the food. Our flight the next day was at 7pm and were giving the opportunity to check out late that afternoon.

Review 4:Food from previous guests still in fridge, rubbish bins not emptied each day, had to walk a couple flights of stairs to reach the room as there is no lift. Restaurant was closed at busy Christmas period

Review 5:Beautiful view with big balcony and comfortable bed. Quite location away from noises of city traffic but still close to city

Review 6:Their staff was so friendly and very informative. We were well looked after. A big thankyou to Manase and his team for looking after us. I was truly blown away by their hospitality. My bestfriend and her husband is still their until the 14th Jan. Thank you

Review 7:Some ants were in the room in the last night even in the bed.

Review 8:The stuffs are so warm and kind. The wind blowing from the big window was so comfortable, and the landscape from the balcony was beautiful.

Review 9:We booked a room for 2 for two nights (one night being on a Sunday) and only received 1 towel and 1 breakfast for the 2 nights (even after we requested the second). By the time we tried to follow up again it was Sunday where it seems nothing is done?

Review 10:I liked that Meleseini C picked up an error, let me know and corrected it. We checked out early (and half asleep) so would not have picked this up until our credit card declined.

Review 11:No pool anymore.

Review 12:A very nice boutique Hotel (Tongan/Italian style). Good restaurant (for Nuku'alofa) and rooms at front have gorgeous view. We found staff excellent and genuinely helpful.

Review 13:advertised bike hire, none! advertised car hire, none! Nice walk to town, but if back and forth in heat the walking could become tiresome. A bike or scooter hire would be perfect. Price on high side when compared to world star rating standards but when in Tonga... !

Review 14:Great staff, very obliging and everything with a smile - very clean nice ocean view room. Good food - good selection (unfortunately one night had to wait a hour for meal). Nice walk to town, but if back and forth in heat the walking could become tiresome. Definitely recommend Little Italy as the place to stay in Tongatapu .

Review 15:We found the hotel a bit pricy for the basic facilities it provided. There was no activity desk as advertised, also all rental cars had to be pre-booked in advance and were all out. Would have been nice if advised hotel description. Rooms had paper thin walls and windows, could hear every move from the hall ways echoing through the large gaps between door and door frame mixed with occasional noise from barking dogs in the neighbourhood.

Review 16:Restaurant food was nice, rooms were okay and clean. The bed was very comfortable. Friendly staff. Free wifi.

Review 17:We hadn't realized the pool was no longer in use, which was a bit disappointing.Though they did offer to shuttle us to another hotel to swim at their pool.

Review 18:Cant beat the view from our hotel balcony of the Pacific Ocean. Only a short scenic walk down the esplanade into the capital past the palace, lots to see! Staff were excellent and restaurant menu second to none, loved the pizzas!

Review 19:Shouldn't be to surprised but eating Gluten free here almost impossible! Visitors should be aware that nobody works on Sundays, so no breakfast or lunch. Only open for dinner from 6 - 6.30pm

Review 20:Probably lucky to select one of the better hotels in Tonga

Review 21:I specifically booked this hotel for the pool which is shown in photos and mentioned on some websites however it does NOT have a pool..there was one once but it has been filled in. On arrival our room did not have enough towels and when requested staff did not follow up until I saw them again the next day. I spoke to cleaning staff to have room cleaned and even left sign on door requesting room clean but it did not happen.TV did not work properly and had to get it looked at by staff. Very disappointed.

Review 22:The food was the only aspect of this hotel we found acceptable. The restaurant meals were nice and tasty and breakfast table had a good selection to choose from. Nice views of the ocean from the restaurant.

Review 23:Great staff, helful and efficient (despite the slow pace of "Island" life). Good facilities and location, excellent food and a pleasant walk into town along a seafront walkway.

Review 24:Everything was fantastic, couldn't fault a thing. The staff were amazing especially Akesa, Veisinia, Saluatoa, Maka and Madias who looked after us everyday.

Review 25:Always check and get confirmation of rates you are paying for your room, prior to arrival. This will prevents misunderstanding and errors on calculation of the total amount that you have to pay for the room, when finalising what you owe and to pay.

Review 26:Bed comfortable and clean.

Review 27:Nothing we didn't like. Just remember you are traveling to an island and you should do your homework on their customs, etc. For example nothing is open on Sunday's - and I mean absolutely nothing. If you stay somewhere like Little Italy then they can serve house guests in the restaurant only. The Internet in the islands is not as smooth as other places so be patient and be prepared to spend less time on the Internet.

Review 28:Great little hotel. Quiet location but an easy walk into Nuku'alofa (about 15 minutes). The food at Little Italy is amazing - if we could we would have tried everything on the menu! The staff are courteous and accomodating - you just need to ask and they will do what they can. Our room was cleaner daily with fresh towels and bed linen. We had a room with a balcony which I would recommend. The air conditioning worked well.

Review 29:The free WIFI was very intermittent. Very frustrating when trying to communicate home.

Review 30:Staff was very helpful and personable. The breakfast menu had good variety. the location was central.

Review 31:Stayed for 8 nights. Room was always clean bed was very comfortable. The staff were very helpful but I didn't really need to ask for anything as it was always provided. The free wifi was great and I never had any trouble going online. Love the breakfast included but need to get in early (7:30 am). I did go to breakfast late one time & ended up eating whatever was left over.

Review 32:The water pressure whilst having a shower... Water would stop and then trickle but if you stood there long enough it would go again

Review 33:The friendly staff and the ocean view from the hotel... Thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

Review 34:No water in the shower if you using the bathroom around 7-8am. The steps going up and down was a hazzle for me.

Review 35:The staff were so friendly and helpful especially Rose and the night shift receptionist.Loved the breakfast of fruit salad and pancake. The wifi service was good. The weather was perfect for the whole week.

Review 36:wish restaurant was open for lunch

Review 37:fantastic staff, good location, quiet, clean, good restaurant, felt like home! incredibly friendly team at the front desk, housekeeping, restaurant - everyone made me feel like a home away from home!

Review 38:Just a minor improvement. There should be a little stairway or platform to step the beach if possible, maybe to the side of the view from the patio.

Review 39:Much has gone into caring for the Little Italy property. It's a clean, beautiful, intimate little place across the road from the sea. You have several choices when dining: inside, outside on either the front patio or in the back next to the long pool surrounded by tropical greenery. Their food is good, and their complimentary breakfasts...there is nothing wanting. Peaceful, soothing music is played in the restaurant while the fresh warm breezes blow through the room. The success of any business is the performance of their employees. All were friendly and good at their jobs. I did not rent a car. I asked for someone to shuttle me to the airport. I made a mistake and reported there a day early so had nothing to do with my day. The driver suggested I go to one of the islands for the lunch package, but he knew the boat was scheduled to leave within a short amount of time. He took all the back roads and drove really fast so I would make it in time, took my suitcase back to the hotel, put me in a room that had fewer stairs, AND picked me up at the dock after the all day trip. I found out later that he was one of the managers. Good people!

Review 40:Occasionally no water in bathroom.

Review 41:Good attentive and hepfull staff. Had room with balcony, bed was very comfortable. Had a couple of meals there, pizza was awesome and other dishes tasty.

Review 42:My only issue was the inter-net speed but I would say that is a Tongan issue and not the hotels.

Review 43:Little Italy delivered everything I expected in location, comfort and facilities. What it did deliver in service and staff friendliness was way beyond my expectation. The staff couldn't have been any more helpful or friendly! Nothing was too much trouble and the smiles that greeted you everywhere were warm and genuine. Would recommend anyone considering stay here to not hesitate booking.

Review 44:All staff warm, friendly and helpful. Buffet breakfast simple but included everything including muesli, yoghurt and fresh fruit Restaurant ambience and food excellent (but large serves)

Review 45:Our departure aircraft was delayed. The staff arranged the hotel facilities for our convenience while we waited 6 hours and then gave us priority booking for the additional overnight stay later required.

Review 46:None of the staff could advise us on anything touristy to do. Nothing in the room to prepare lunch or to have a glass of wine on Sunday when everything is closed.

Review 47:Amazing food Small but comfortable room Clean room, comfortable bed

Review 48:Staff not organised. No milk for tea - staff went from room to room to look for some. Checkout took a ridiculously long time. Paperwork given over on previous day had been lost by staff - but even guests without their paperwork lost took a long time to check out. Drinking glass in our room was very dirty, notified staff and clean glass was supplied promptly with apologies. Insufficient towels supplied to both rooms - notified staff and this was also remedied promptly.

Review 49:Good location, walk into town along path. Interesting room decor and restaurant decoration. Saw whale blow whilst standing at reception waiting to check out.

Review 50:Checkout was extremely slow, took over half an hour and that was only 3 rooms checking out before me, each bill was manually done from an excel template and they didn't even know the room rate to apply - had to ask who you booked it through to know what rate to charge. Our group had rooms with only 1 towel or missing tea or coffee components and they seemed to have to go check other unoccupied rooms to get the required towel etc. Wifi was very poor - they had the units at each end of the hallway but could never get them to connect, ended up having to stand in hallway to get wifi it was provided free though. My room seemed clean enough but others had dirty glasses. No top sheet on bed and a doona - had to sleep with aircon blasting not to be too hot. Would have been better with a sheet and light cover.

Review 51:The location was nice, right across from the water which at high tide you could swim or kayak, 20 min walk to town or 6TOP in taxi Each room decor was different and a bit "out there", my room had a wallpaper wall of giant poppies! Staff helpful with bags, early checkin Restaurant was nice enough, big meals and potentially huge pizzas. Can't compare to any other hotels on Tongatapu but it was better than similar priced places on Vavau

Review 52:Not much really. The pool and pool area was probably a little small but nothing to get worked up about. Tea bags were a bit scarce and we had to ask for more but again nothing to worry about.

Review 53:It was ideally situated for walking into the town. The view was nice and the staff really keen and friendly. The rooms were also clean. The food was very good.

Review 54:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel was quaint. I would certainly recommend dining there. The food was great. Tried a variety of options on the menu and everything was delicious! We rented a car for a few days. Cheap and useful to have.

Review 55:A bit on the pricey side Lap pool has a lot of shade and is VERY cold

Review 56:Friendly staff Cleanliness Good food Cute lap pool Great view.. Even saw the pigs fishing at high tide! Fresh coconut juice at breakfast

Review 57:nothing

Review 58:All the staff were friendly and very helpful (cleaners management, and waiters. We enjoyed our stay here in Tonga. This hotel has a great restaurant. A good variety of breakfasts to start the day, either cooked or cereal. The evening meals are also very good. The room that we had was ideal for us clean, tidy, and quite.

Review 59:quite pricey for what you get, wifi cut in and out a lot, noise of staff in morning woke me up - they talked quite loudly in the dawn hours

Review 60:- location, pool, view over the harbour, breakfast very good

Review 61:We tried to email to the hotel 3 times for the shuttle service but we didn't get any reply. Wifi in the room some time didn't work or very slow .

Review 62:Nice water front position . Easy walk to town center. We arrived early for check in but they let us to check in .

Review 63:We could hear our neighbours talking and wild dogs (there are many in Tonga!) barking at night. Don't expect the same standard as a western hotel, but this is among the best you'll get in Tonga. A bit far from centre to walk.

Review 64:- The staff is very friendly and they don't hesitate to do the best to help you. - Great food at the restaurant. - Clean facilities and nice location in front of the sea in a quiet part of the city.

Review 65:No Tongan fell or culture, Overpriced Meals and no tongan food on menu. Pool is small and sheltered from sun. Beach is coral/stone.

Review 66:Nice helpfull staff. Good food.

Review 67:Don't get a room at the rear of the building 10 or so dogs set off barking regularly during the night. Pigs getting slaughtered outside my window Shower was never hot

Review 68:The staff were friendly and helpful. Restaurant food best in Nuku'alofa, great pizza Lasagne etc

Review 69:No toilet to use when we came back to pick up our bags after going to town at check out time. The staff were apogetic but there wasn't one available.

Review 70:Excellent spot by the waterfront, kind staff, generous firm bed.

Review 71:I should have got a pushbike or some form of transport for getting to other eating options at night as the menu can get repetitive

Review 72:The balcony overlooking the water was a definite plus

Review 73:The shower had a few issues, the shower head probably needed replacing in my room. The water pressure was also not the best and at times hot water wasn't available. The WiFi allowance was too small especially if travelling for work. I need to access emails and the internet regularly when working out of the office.

Review 74:It was very clean and overall well presented. The downstairs restaurant was a real bonus. The staff were friendly and helpful. The location though a little out of town was good as it offered a nice morning walk into town. Overall it was good and I would stay here again when in Tonga.
