Review 1：The attitude of the hosts was most strange down to: we were told the specific time for breakfast, we were not even given a time range for breakfast. The time depended on what time everyone else wanted breakfast and everyone was expected to conform. It came down to what was a convenient time to the hosts. The breakfast lacked care and feeling that makes all the difference. When we arrived the welcome was far from friendly. It was tense. When we were asked if we wanted milk, after I looked at my wife for answer, the lady host said in a very bad tone of voice ''do u want milk or not?''

Review 3：We were asked to change our breakfast time for one day. The voucher-based WI-FI was a real pain and not suitable for streaming.

Review 8：That is the first night we stayed in NZ and the room is very very very comfortable and we got a very good sleep. The host is very welcome and the breakfast is awesome. We also know that one of the Chinese pop star Hu Haiquan(胡海泉） stayed there in 2010.

Review 9：Lynne and John made us very welcome, including the special breakfast bake. The room was spotless and the position on the peninsular made for great views across the sea to the mountains. Would certainly stay there again.

Review 10：On the second view you have a shower with unstable temperature, where the water is more dropping than running. There is an automatic sprayer in the room for insects, which we didn't like. Be careful with the payment. The owner had charged my credit card already when I wanted to pay at departure. Later at home I saw that he did take 5 NZD more than what was confirmed by booking.com. Now I am trying to get the money back but the owner doesn't reply on email.I wouldn't book this accomodation again for these reasons above.

Review 20：We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend stay at Austin Heights at the beginning of April 2014. The house is beautiful and well appointed, having been completely refurbished by the present owners, John and Lynne, and stands in an enviable and elevated position giving wonderful scenic views over the mountains and coastline. We had booked a standard room but on arrival, we upgraded to a more spacious De Luxe ensuite room on the first floor with its own walk out balcony. The rate for this room was higher but we were happy to pay as we knew we were spending the weekend in Kaikoura and it was such a beautiful room, the decor and furnishings were very tasteful and there were extra facilities such as a kitchenette area, sofa, coffee table, table and chairs, microwave and fridge. In the fridge we found complimentary beer and wine as well as milk, biscuits and sweets which were all much appreciated. The room was spotlessly clean, we were asked to remove our shoes indoors, which we were happy to do as we do this at home, and respect the owners wishes. Breakfast was very good, cereals, toast, juice, tea, coffee, fresh fruit, yogurt and eggs. Lynne and John joined us for a chat and we very much enjoyed their company and found them to be friendly and attentive throughout our stay. Whilst in Kaikoura, we booked an excellent whale watching trip with Whale Watch, saw a sperm whale, dusky dolphins, fur seals and albatrosses, (discount available with vouchers in Arrival magazine available at airports or ferry terminals). We also had a very enjoyable walk from Austin Heights to the Peninsula Walkway, past the seal colony, again very worthwhile. If we were to return to Kaikoura, we would always stay at Austin Heights and would highly recommend this very comfortable accommodation.

Review 36：Austin Heights is the ideal place to stay in Kaikoura. It is located on an elevation outside the town, which can be reached by a quarter-hour walk down an attractive hillside path or a few minutes drive. Lynne and John, the owners, are friendly and helpful and made us very welcome in their home (as did Oscar, their irresistible Rag Doll cat). The house is surrounded by a beautiful garden with a proliferation of roses, and there is ample parking at the back. Our room was clean and comfortable, and the views from our balcony of the sea and mountains behind the town were splendid. We asked for a continental breakfast and it was both abundant and tasty. We enjoyed it along with a friendly chat with our hosts. We will try to stay here again when next we visit Kaikoura.

Review 39：Beautifully furnushed upstairs room with views over the town and mountains. A supremely comfortable bed. A pleasant, if hilly, walk down through fields to the beach and two restaurants. It was a little way out of town so a car would be required for further restaurants and shops.

Review 41：The kitchen facility was very limited to the point it was hardly worth having, ie a microwave and kettle were the only cooking items provided. The space would have been better utilised for enlarging the room. Several printed notices describing the "do's" and "don'ts" of the house were very irritating, such as "remove shoes" before entering. A b & b should expect guests to be able to use the facilities responsibly without reminders. Laundry had to be given to host to wash and dry. Was done foc.

Lynne recommended and booked a local restaurant for us which was very nice and met all our expectations. Lynne also gave us some real good ideas as to the "places to go/things to do" and couldn't have been more helfpul and friendly! John, her husband was also just as welcoming! Lovely homely breakfast which really set us up for the day. We would highly recommend Austin Heights and on a return trip - this will definitely be one of our stop-offs!! Its a great base for the Kaikoura area!
