Reviews for Hotel 91

Review 1:This is just my individual opinion, but I think it's not ok to let the guests take care of the clogged toilet!

Review 2:The hotel is located right in Chinatown and only 5 minutes walking distance to the subway station (line F). The guy working at the reception was not so friendly, but efficient. However the other hotel staff was really friendly! Our room (we booked a double room for us 3) was really big - and the bathroom also. Overall the room was clean and the beds comfortable, although the sheets should be bigger - especially when you share a bed. The water pressure was sometimes at the lower side, but still ok. You need to know that the hotel is located right near Manhattan Bridge - the car traffic noise is ok, but there are frequent trains that are really loud. If the windows are closed it's better but it's still that loud that the bed is shaking. We got used to it after the first night, so we would book again - as in every city it's noisy, whether it's the train or the cars! You get what you pay for - and the value for money is good!

Review 3:Under Manhatten bridge - bit noisy with trains. I slept through but light sleepers might not be so lucky.

Review 4:Recommend. Exceptional value for money. Room was bigger than I was expecting for the price. Comfortable, fresh and clean. Minutes from subway -10mins from midtown/times square. short walk to wall st/battery park/9/11 museum. Helpful staff. Fast internet. Free printing. Free coffee/tea station.

Review 5:Old... Needs updating... Needs more than instant coffee and a hot vending machine. TV cord was strung down the wall - looked horrible. Bathroom was super nice. Though it was next to the train, it was quiet!

Review 6:Location

Review 7:Hotel is near the Manhattan bridge with trains passing by 24/7. Needed earplugs to be able to sleep (provided by the hotel :-).

Review 8:Fine hotel and location. They helped us out perferctly when we had to print our music hall tickets.

Review 9:Good location in Chinatown close to subway and good walking around. Very comfortable matresses. Feels more like home. Great food around area. Easy to get uptown.

Review 10:The female staff were excellent, the men cold and unfriendly, oddly. There are no meal facilities and tea and coffee is free, but basic. Location is pretty good for subway but there's nowhere local to eat unless you want Chinese every night. Then again, it is in Chinatown. :) The window is right next to a two story road / rail bridge so you need not to be a light sleeper.

Review 11:Clean and reasonably priced budget hotel, with decent size bedroom and bathroom. Its New York so you get what you pay for. If price is important you won't go far wrong here, but you'll compromise on not having the little luxury bits of a hotel stay (and the road / rail noise).

Review 12:Room smelled like someone had just smoked a joint before we got there. They even left the match they used to light up on the floor. Stains all over the place, carpet, walls, bathroom. Very very loud train literally right outside our window.

Review 13:Cool area (Chinatown). Bed was super comfortable.

Review 14:Hotel 91 is a lovely hotel, it is spotlessly clean, wonderful staff, convenient to downtown attractions. It is situated in a working area of Chinatown, were shops sell fish, Chinese restaurants, shopping centre across the road. Manhattan bridge is beside the hotel, but in the room we did not hear the noise from it. This is a working area were people are up going about their daily lives. If you are looking for somewhere fancy and luxurious then this is not the place for you. I would recommend this hotel, it suited our needs and a lovely experience, there was 10 of us in our group and we had 3 rooms, it was great

Review 15:I have stayed in this hotel in June 2015, and booked again for 6 nights from 27 November 2015, this hotel is really nice, staff are excellent, and help with anything you need. The rooms are very nice and the beds are so comfortable, also this hotel is spotless, and the housekeeper does a wonderful job. You are downtown and the tube station is a 3 - 4 minute walk. You are a 15 minute walk from the twin tower site, 10 minute from Little Italy, New York is an expensive city for Hotels, eating out, shopping, and everything in China town is cheaper than mid town and uptown. We arrived home today and we had a fantastic holiday, we had 2 rooms booked 601 & 602, they hold 4 people comfortably. Thank you all Hotel 91 we had a blast

Review 16:The internet connectivity was inadequate. Water pressure andtemperature were inconsistent but not unbearable. The decor of thehotel was quite sparse.

Review 17:The location was good for getting around Manhattan (b, d & f trains& busses). Nearby were some good value places to eat, especially theChinese bakeries for breakfast!. Chinatown is always exotic ifyou're not from there. Staff was helpful when we needed it. Safetywas never a problem.

Review 18:Close to railway but you quickly get used to the noise

Review 19:Close to local transport link, great if you plan on exploring. Great local area, Chinatown & little Italy are definitely worth a look.

Review 20:Would have liked tea making facilities in the room . Just basic would have been ok and the room was a little cold as we could not get warm air from the air conditioning

Review 21:Very comfortable beds , very efficient and friendly staff and good location for our needs

Review 22:Wifi connection was terrible and the heat in the property was too much, not enough air con.

Review 23:The beds were simply AMAZING, very comfortable. The rooms were lovely. Staff (zueilly) was wonderful. Thank you for accommodating us

Review 24:The facilities are very good and clean, the location not so much. WiFi coverage can be improved.

Review 25:Nice personnel, clean rooms, subway accessible, and great value for the price!

Review 26:trains were so noisy that you have trouble sleeping. recommend earplugs. plumbing was so noisy whenever someone uses the shower upstairs or next door, the whole bathroom would vibrate from the plumbing. would wake up because of the noise. recommend earplugs. had to run up and down two times as the room key did not work, very unhappy as we arrived late that night. chinatown is smelly and dirty in general.

Review 27:clean rooms and good location to subway and buses.

Review 28:Way too much money for this room. Too small, cramped, no desk, no drawers, no microwave, no fridge, definitely no frills. No breakfast. I should not have paid more than a 100 for this room.

Review 29:The room was clean and the location was ok. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Review 30:There are little to no amenities. The shower had horrible water pressure and took a while to heat up. It's also somewhat of a distance away from Manhattan's shopping areas and is in need of remodeling.

Review 31:The hotel was close to various parties we were attending for the weekend. It was also quiet and fairly clean.

Review 32:Not really a bad experience, but our room backing onto the subway line led to a disrupted sleep.

Review 33:The staff were very welcoming and provided great advice for our short stay.

Review 34:One morning with cold water only and no safe in room.

Review 35:Excellent location: a few steps from Lower East Side, and just a minute from the subway. Comfortable bed, and hardly any noise from the nearby train.

Review 36:Our room 309 was right next to a train line so quite noisey. The hotel was right down near the finacial district so needed to either train or cab to get uptown.

Review 37:Hotel staff were very friendly. Room was a good size with very comfortable beds. Maids every day.

Review 38:Due to location of hotel to subway, you can hear the trains over the bridge. we did get used to the noise and it didn't cause any problems for us.

Review 39:Close to the subway station and loads of restaurants in china town.

Review 40:The desk staff were very unfriendly! No hello. No thanks for staying with us. Actually they didn't talk at all. Not during check in or check out! The view from my hotel window was a concrete wall. It is very noisy.. Trains running all night long!

Review 41:The hotel room was clean and comfortable.

Review 42:The first room offered was so close to the train that you couldn't hear anything else - had to been experienced to be believed. Asked for a different room and got one WITH NO WINDOWS!!!

Review 43:The beds are comfortable

Review 44:- nowhere to eat breakfast, just a vending machine with drinks - noisy in room if you have bad luck - no fridge

Review 45:+ comfortable beds + cleaning every day + interesting neighborhood + helpful staff + big rooms if lucky + near subway and famous location such as Brooklyn bridge and Financial district

Review 46:Its right in China town and the streets smell like rotten fish and theres garbage everywhere. The hotel is right by the bridge and the trains go all night and are very loud. We asked to be moved to a room on the otherside of the building as it was so loud we couldnt sleep and the staff were very good in finding us another room.

Review 47:We could walk to little italy, east side and ground zero from the hotel.

Review 48:One of the staff made a error with their payment system which ended up charging my credit card an extra $200 and I was only in NY for 3 nights. I was somewhat depending on that amount for my last day there. It took almost 2 weeks to reverse the amount. They also should serve breakfast for their room charges.

Review 49:The hotel was clean and tidy.

Review 50:WiFi was very poor although did have hard wired connection. It's not quite Elwood's apartment but as side rooms are so close to Manhattan Bridge the train vibration was a little off putting but thoughtfully glazed so only a little noise.

Review 51:Eastern edge of Chinatown so not that busy outside. Easy access to transport. Staff helpful and knowledgeable of the area.

Review 52:Bad smell on street, close to the hotel is metro, so expect bit of noise, no breakfast, no closet.

Review 53:Location is close to the city center, the room was clean and quite spacious, free coffee.

Review 54:manhattan bridge is outside the window train is close - you can hear the train in the room. It didn't keep us awake (sounds like the a stormy wind)

Review 55:friendly neighbourhood (chinatown), safe athmosphere (@ night with children). 5 min distance to two subwaystations

Review 56:trains on Manhattan Bridge are rather loud, buth thanks to excellent windows hardly noticed inside

Review 57:well connected to the Metro, Stations Canal Street and East Broadway in walking distance; located in Chinatown with many Chinese resp. Asian restaurants, shops etc. nearby; hotel does not offer breakfast, but there are small Chinese bakeries around that offer coffee, sandwiches etc. foor a good price

Review 58:No tea/coffee facility in the room.

Review 59:Good value, good location, good beds. Very basic but close enough to walk downtown and good connections to get uptown. Staff very helpful.

Review 60:Chinatown is a difficult area for restaurants. Reception in second floor. Noise from outside (train close to the hotel), unbearable if windows are open. Very bad wifi conex.

Review 61:Near subway.

Review 62:Had to daily call to have staff to get the TV operational cable connection kept coming undone. . TV was mounted to high on the wall to view properly while in bed. Picture quality was poor

Review 63:Nothing

Review 64:Rooms were comfortable and quiet (we requested for a quiet room away from the train tracks) The staff were friendly and helpful. Located right in the heart of Chinatown. Food is affordable - won't go hungry!

Review 65:The area around the hotel isn't the cleanest but you shouldn't let that put you off, you feel safe walking around there and the hotel is excellent value for a manhatten location. WiFi intermittent but generally able to connect most of the time.

Review 66:Location in China town, less than a five minute walk to the subway station. Hotel kept very clean and rooms cleaned every day. Vending machines on two of the floors with large selection of drinks and snacks as well as free coffees and teas.

Review 67:The location is ok if you want to know ChinaTown. However, in my opinion, ChinaTown is not the best place to be in NY. NY is an expensive city ... However, I think you can find a better location with a similar price if you book with enough time (it was not my case).

Review 68:I took a two beds rooms. Beds were perfect. Restrooms were quite ok as well. The rest is OK but not nothing else.

Review 69:the subway is much too close, it wakes you up at 4:30 am every day. would never go there again. maybe they have other rooms more quiet

Review 70:Staff was helpful but always busy

Review 71:The rooms closest to the railway bridge are a bit noisy, but it wasn't a major problem for us, and the windows are double double glazed!

Review 72:Great location in Chinatown. Close to Eastbroadway subway station and the F train which takes you straight uptown or over to Brooklyn. Friendly staff, and very clean

Review 73:The second night we move to other room but was no ready and when we come back from the center they give us a room in front of the reception and was very noisy...

Review 74:Personal friendly

Review 75:Our room was abt 8 meters from the train/subway/road, and every 5 minutes trains and subways passed with loud thunder past, hardly had any sleep, terrible noise.

Review 76:Hotel is clean, and airco working well

Review 77:Noisy trains but ok, ice/coffee too far away from 7th floor.

Review 78:comfortable, adequate. Fascinating area of town, easy walking to many places - Battery Park, 9/11 park, Little Italy, South Piers, we walked to Union Sq.

Review 79:The room was very comfortable and we were very pleased with the bed. Sometimes even very expensive hotels have terrible beds. This was a very reasonable price and it was a cool experience staying in Chinatown, met some really nice people. The staff at the hotel were great and they cleaned the room every day. They kept our bags for us before the room was ready when we got there and after we checked out since our flight was later. We would definitely stay here again!

Review 80:Since it was near the subway it was kind of hard to sleep because it was a little noisy. We had trouble turning on the AC.

Review 81:We loved how fast the elevator was. And the rooms were clean.

Review 82:The area. The poor internet quality on some locations (big turn off). One check in staff member unfriendly. The horrid Chinese interior.

Review 83:The price. The accessibility.

Review 84:small room and noisy with subway outside window. could hear neighbors using their john

Review 85:clean, helpful kind staff with coffee n tea available and bus/subway advice n nice bathroom

Review 86:No milk with tea and coffee facilities, perhaps stock in vending machine :)

Review 87:Excellent budget hotel! Close to subway and staff were all very helpful! Also the free tea and coffee facilities were great.

Review 88:Sound of the passing train. But its not that annoying really. You woild not notice it after spending your day enjoying the sights and sound

Review 89:Proximity to a lot of landmarks. All within walking distance including the East Broadway Station which will take you to the upper manhattan landmarks

Review 90:Hotel located next to the Manhattan bridge. Trains pass the bridge every2-3 minutes. Loudy place. Also, the Internet is very poor. Sometimesinternet works better sometimes worse.

Review 91:Clean bathroom, good hotel location - close to everything, subwaystation East Broadway just 4-5 minutes walk from the hotel, finnancialdistrict and wtc 10-15 minutes walk. Hotel is located in Chinatownwhich is an advantage to me - easy acess to many Chinese bars andrestaurants when you can get a real Chinese foot, worth to try. Cheap!Interesting thing - in a heart of the New York, in Chinatown in somebars and restaurants staff doesnt speak English and you will not findEnglish menu :)

Review 92:out of the way for uptown, we had an 86 year old with mobility problems and had to taxi every where, but there is a tube station not far from hotel, but this is not a problem I loved every thing about it

Review 93:hotel was spotless, staff were amazing, great location for downtown Manhattan, freedom tower, statue of liberty etc

Review 94:While we enjoy being by the trains -- the comings and goings of the subway are soothing in some strange way -- the hotels bridge-side rooms could be loud for folks unaccustomed to the sound.

Review 95:We were looking for a safe space to stash our stuff while wansering the city looking for pizza and graffiti and Hotel 91 was exactly what we were looking for. Decorative flourishes are minimal but that just means it's tough to hide the grime, of which there was none. Chinatown can be over the top if you're used to the staid sameness of the suburbs but we had a blast.

Review 96:right next to Manhattan bridge and trains at every moment of your stay... the part of the China town it is located, unfortunately, stinks big time. don't go there in summer.

Review 97:bed was comfortable

Review 98:next to the metro, extremely noisy. Only good if need to sleep for a night. Poor or no internet connection. Price US$150 is not worth it at all.

Review 99:room is clean. Pantry with hot water provided at all time.

Review 100:It didn't bother me much but if I had to say something I didn't like, it would be the noise from the bridge outside our window. I knew from looking on the map how close the bridge was and read reviews as well about the noise so I can't really complain.

Review 101:The rooms were stocked and very clean. I didn't expect such a nice hotel right in the middle of Chinatown

Review 102:The hotel has no breakfast facilities, but we found an excellent breakfast spot at Irving Farm Coffee Roasters at the corner of Broomstreet and Orchard Street

Review 103:The hotel had an excellent level of comfort for a three star hotel. Although it is located directly next to the Manhattan Bridge with a screaming subway (we could almost touch the bridge from our window), the double window was efficient to shut out the noise effectively, reducing the noise to some background rumbling which didn't disturb our nights.

Review 104:They were super nice and accommodating people. Parking was just around the corner. Nice size room, for the city. They let us keep our three bicycles in our room and held our luggage for the whole day, too!

Review 105:The noise of the train. If you have a light sleep it will be unberable. However it didn't bother me.

Review 106:Location in the heart of Chinatown and close enough to metro. Room and bathroom was very clean and the bed real comfortable. Good value for money

Review 107:The hotel is just beside the train and some of the rooms have a view straight into the bridge. There is noise from the trains in all rooms. In some rooms it sounds like wind, in other rooms it sounds like the train runs beside your bed, which it almost does...

Review 108:Central location, value for money, 24 hour reception.

Review 109:Subway on Manhattan Bridge could be heard very well, but we didn't really find it that disturbing

Review 110:A lot of room space for Manhattan with own bathroom with bath and shower, very friendly staff with free use of computer and printer and storing suitcases after checking out

Review 111:A bit of a poor-taste/kitschy feel to the place as you walk in (hallway looks like Chinese shopping complex). Windows and sills were very dirty, and some didn't even close/open properly. Area looks unsafe.

Review 112:Great location and good value for money (by US standards, considering this is Lower Manhattan). Extremely helpful and kind staff. Great view from the room. Windows did a very good job insulating from outside noise - room next to subway and road bridge.

Review 113:Room on the 6th floor was next to manhattan bridge, wifi could be better

Review 114:Clean room, spacious bathroom, friendly staff, free coffee in the lobby, close to the subway, in the heart of chinatown, short walk to the wtc, brooklyn bridge,...

Review 115:Right next to the Manhattan Bridge. Traffic could be easily heard through the double windows.

Review 116:Close to a subway station. Near to a few good restaurants.

Review 117:Rather unfortunately it is adjacent to the Manhattan Bridge which has both vehicle and subway. Was this a problem overall, probably not, but if you are of a quiet disposition you should probably avoid the location. With all Manhattan hotels it is a balance between, cost, location and size, and this one you need to think about regards location.

Review 118:Good beds and free coffee. If you like downtown it is ideal for Little Italy, Chinatown, Soho and East Village.

Review 119:The location. Chinatown is a dump! The smells outside are pungent! Our room was right next to the train track and it was constraint! The train is passing every 3 minutes. The secondary glazing does drown some of the noise out but it does prevent you from opening the window but, the air conditioning takes care of that!

Review 120:Couldn't fault the hotel, staff, facilities, or value for money. The hotel itself was great and the room was cleaned everyday with fresh bedding and towels and toiletries. The hotel is located a couple of minutes walk away from the subway which takes you straight up to 'where it's all happening'. You can get off the subway underneath the Rockefeller building.

Review 121:we had a problem with bedbugs in one room, but then we changed rooms and problem disappeared

Review 122:location - edge of Chinatown, near to WTC clean rooms helpful staff price/quality

Review 123:Wifi is really weak and spotty in the rooms.

Review 124:Convienient location, walking distance to the subway, china town and little Italy. Room was as pictured, comfortable and clean, working tv with cable, hot water in the bathrooms and the staff were helpful.

Review 125:Slow and unreliable wi-fi connection. Very close to train tracks, which some people might not like (didn't bother us).

Review 126:Friendly, very helpful staff. Spotless, comfortable rooms with great maid service. Good location in Chinatown, with LES and East Village only streets away, and a subway station close by. Excellent value for money.

Review 127:The only problem was the wifi connection. It didn't work most of the time and when it did, it was very slow.

Review 128:The overall stay was fantastic and well worth the money!

Review 129:Subway close to the room makes the place very noisy. Although the hotelis in Manhattan, Chinatown is not the best place to stay in New York(noisy, dirty). Expensive for the place. Breakfast not included.

Review 130:Close to the subway. Nice personnel. Good wifi.

Review 131:The Wi-Fi may as well not exist as my connection from my room was comically slow. Someone had clearly been smoking in the room as the smell was very noticeable.

Review 132:Staff were very helpful. The first room they had put me in was directly opposite the Manhattan bridge, which despite other reviews playing this down, it was too loud for myself who just needed a good nights sleep. The staff switched me to another room after requesting so which was much better.

Review 133:Location in Chinatown is awful. The smell of fish is everywhere. Even our towels smelt of fish. Our room was right next to the subway and was very loud. Bathroom floors were gross. I question how well they clean rooms after seeing housekeeping only carrying a bucket filled with a couple cleaning supplies. I would rather pay a couple hundred dollars more to stay somewhere out of Chinatown.

Review 134:The price was decent. They will store your bags after check out. The bed was comfy.

Review 135:The hotel it is located in Chinatown and some streets are very dirty.

Review 136:Confortable beds and the room was always clean. Localization near subway station. Coffee and tea free.

Review 137:note that the hotel is directly beside a very loud train station which runs all day and night. Our first room was far to loud so we got them staff to switch us up to the top floor, where it was much more bearable. I dread the thought of having to stay in the first room

Review 138:Very near Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges, Subway station is 2 min walk away.

Review 139:nothing really, sometimes the internet was not working on our floor level and we had to log into the lower floors. This wasn't a big problem though and would not deter us from returning as it was a nice place.

Review 140:Great location, Safe area and nice people. Would go back in a heartbeat.

Review 141:No wardrobe just a bar to hang clothes on . But we made do, take some hangers as we had 4 between us

Review 142:There was lots of space and a great view. There were also tea and coffee making facilities on 2nd floor and within easy distance of the subway .

Review 143:We really like bagels and stuff for breakfast, (but there aren't really places like that in Chinatown), so we just decided to just always have breakfast in the area/neighborhood we were going to explore that day. Which maybe is even nicer! But you just have to wait a little longer until you're having breakfast.

Review 144:We had a room with two queen size beds, one for each of us; really great!! Bed was super comfortable and they cleaned our room every day, perfect! They have a tea dispenser on the 2nd floor.. So everytime we got back at the hotel, we first stopped at the 2nd floor to get a cup of tea and then went up to the room. Hotel 91 felt like our home after a long day of walking around the city. There are two close metro stops: Grand street (7min walk) and East Broadway (5min walk). Oh and make sure you ask the reception for a pick up to bring you to the airport (45 excl tip) instead of taking a taxi (70).
