Reviews for The Maritime Hotel
Review 1:It was winter so it was fine to be on a low floor, in the summer perhaps a high floor would be better as it would be farther away from terraces with parties.
Review 2:Great staff, fun decor, good location near Chelsea
Review 3:The only down side with the thermostat was not working and it was very warm in the room (it was also warm temperatures outside for January).
Review 4:cleanliness, the amenities in the bathroom with make-up mirror, tile and marble.
Review 5:I got an impatient response to a request for a quiet room over the phone. But otherwise the service was very good.
Review 6:We were on the fourth floor on a relatively slow weekened and the room was very, very quiet. They have clearly invested in sound-proofing. It was heavenly. The condition and quality of everything was excellent — the mattress and bed linens were delicious, with a fluffy down duvet and very soft sheets.
Review 7:The hotel is currently under construction. We were dying to see what the finished product was going to be like. I can't really complain because we probably got a good deal because of the construction!!
Review 8:What a cool place. The staff was excellent and we liked the character of the hotel. We were thrilled with how unique the rooms were and that we could open the windows. We loved the continental breakfasts & wine and cheese in the evenings.
Review 9:Nice room but too small for 3 people. Restaurant under renovation - not known before we booked. No tea or coffee facilities in room. Breakfast was a bonus but staff at breakfast not overly friendly.
Review 10:Nice room but too small for 3 people. Location good - nice to be away from the centre of NY. Front desk staff really friendly.
Review 11:They are under construction but seem to be going out of their way to compensate. Really, no complaints. I would come back in a heart beat, especially with the reasonable rate I found on booking.com.
Review 12:Surprised at how family-friendly this trendy hotel was. They had a pack n play waiting for us when we arrived (4 hours before check-in...it was slow the day after Christmas). They offer screened babysitters for $35/hour, plus transportation. Yummy breakfast spread in the morning, wine and cheese in the evening and coffee and tea all day. Noise-reducing window "plug" available, but we didn't need it.
Review 13:Breakfast, wine & cheese, lounge area, friendly and helpful staff, nicely designed rooms, price is right. Bought lunch to go at the Chelsea Market across the street and ate with friends in the large lounge. There's a nautical feel to the place- the design comes through. You're on a cruise ship in NYC without being tacky.
Review 14:The people at breakfast were kind of grumpy (on both days) - did not match the nice location and music, so that was kind of a bummer
Review 15:The rooms are nice, the hotel is quite, the breakfast is good (and in a very nice location)
Review 16:NYC is a busy city and you would expect some noise but I've never experienced as much coming from the street throughout the night. Saturday night was crazy and we got little sleep until after 3:00 am.
Review 17:A very nice breakfast was served each day and a great wine and cheese service was offered each evening beginning at 5:00. Very nicely done.
Review 18:This hotel is under a major construction, we were not told about this and paid full price. We were woke up each morning with jackhammering below us. No restaurant, the lobby dark with heavy curtains covering up the construction. Not happy!!!
Review 19:The location of this hotel is great. Within walking distance to the Whitney Musuem, the Highline, Chelsea Market, many wonderful restaurants.
Review 20:There is one girl who works at the reception who is not nice, She is unfriendly and she seems that is doing a favor for you. I remind you that the customer is me ... She does not have the right profile to work with a high-level public ...
Review 21:I love the Maritime. It's a great looking theme without feeling gimmicky, and the commitment to the aesthetic never interferes with the hotel feeling comfortable and welcoming. Staff is always helpful and friendly.
Review 22:Hotel charged a security deposit per night without advising us. Bookings.com didn't clearly indicate that the cost shown wasn't inclusive of tax!
Review 23:It didn't have a doorman. The rooms are very small and dated. The theme is marine but with that said, it's very dark. Dark wood, deep blue hall walls. Didn't give off a clean, fresh, vibrant feel. We paid $800 for the weekend.
Review 24:The location is excellent.
Review 25:TV remote was a mess and very hard to manage.
Review 26:The room was comfortable, breakfast was good and in a lovely area, elevators were swift, and I enjoyed the attractive funkiness of the decor.
Review 27:We blew a fuse, engineering was very attentive but I had the closet door open during ordeal and walked right into it hitting my face.
Review 28:Great Chelsea location. Quiet and intimate hotel in the hustle and bustle of night life.great water pressure in shower.
Review 29:The only disappointing part of my trip was I got in at 1 am because my flight was delayed several hours and the hotel did nothing to compensate or do anything to make the situation a bit more tolerable. I still had to pay the full rate for 2 full days which I found to be extremely unfair.
Review 30:The rooms at the Maritime are getting a bit old On a wood board, a tired mattress doesn't perform well. I didn't sleep well. The carpet in the room smelled dust, not ideal for somebody with allergies... I asked for a humidifier to help a bit, but never got it. Last, the window didn't close well, so it was chilly at night, even during this warm fall weekend (I can't imagine what it would have been in the winter). People should also be aware that there's construction work... so no Bottega restaurant anymore, no room service at night and during the day (the Japanese restaurant can deliver in the evening though). And obviously no access to the terrace, and noise from the construction site.
Review 31:Location, cosy hotel, really nice staff
Review 32:Though our stay was brief...one night, it was without issues. Room was fine, continental breakfast was great and the staff was pleasant and helpful. Maybe a little pricey, but that's New York. Would definitely recommend hotel.
Review 33:the location, the WIFI all over the place, the staff, the atmosphere, there was something warm about this hotel - it may have to do with the feeling at breakfast and happy hour. it was one of the best experiences i ever had in a NY hotel. and trust me -- i stayed in many.
Review 34:They were renovating and yet we paid 500$ a night with breakfast that is super basic and no room service after 12. Also, they lost our bags but then brought them back and offered is free room service to be fair.
Review 35:I loved the location.
Review 36:We loved the room. The wine and cheese was a real bonus and breakfast in the morning was fabulous everyone was so nice ! We look forward to visiting again!
Review 37:Rooms are very small. Can't control room temperature. Was stuffy and had to open window to sleep which brought in street noise from club below. Also, bathroom fan did not work. Rainfall shower was a bit odd for a small shower and too powerful.
Review 38:Great hotel and great location. Subway is 1 block away to go uptown or downtown. I like the theme and room designs are nice but small. Also, get a higher room so you don't get too much street noise and can open the window for fresh air. Great area for continental breakfast. My favorite part of hotel was their sunlit retractable roof eating area.
Review 39:Wish the public places was not so dark.
Review 40:Everything from check in to check out was great. Amazingly polite staff, confortable rooms with everything you need, ask for a higher floor. Great wine and cheese. Just a fabulous weekend. Superb location.
Review 41:Very expensive, even for NY and small rooms. Decor in the corridors too dark and rooms need better sound proofing.
Review 42:Great location, friendly staff, well equipped rooms.
Review 43:Maybe a restaurant for breakfast with a full menu
Review 44:The setting for the cheese and wine.it was spacious and the staff very welcoming.nice touch after a long day doing tourist activities.
Review 45:The outdoor terrace and restaurant were closed for renovation. The hotel accomodated everyone with an alternative outdoor terrace and free continental breakfast but you could not watch the street activity.
Review 46:Love this hotel. Have stayed before. Our favorite thing is the huge outdoor terrace and restaurant.
Review 47:The overall style of the hotel is a bit "old fashioned" but that's a very subjective feedback. Pretty expensive but I have not been to any other hotel in Manhattan to make a fair comparison.
Review 48:Ideally located near Chelsea's Market, room very clean and comfortable.
Review 49:The only negative thing I would say would be that it would be nice if they have some hot items for their complimentary breakfast.
Review 50:The Maritime was great! Everyone was very pleasant, the room was wonderful, and what a view! The free wine and cheese was none too shabby, either.
Review 51:the fact that the bar and restaurant were under construction just made the whole place seem sad, small and not luxurious. It also seemed like there was no real security. It seemed like anyone could get on the elevators. I was excited I got the room at that price but was let down by the lack of restaurant. I have stayed here before and it was fun.
Review 52:It was a comfortable room that wasn't too small.
Review 53:I've never stayed at a more quiet, peaceful, and all around comfortable hotel in NYC. Staff was accommodating and friendly. Even during renovation, the hotel was spotless. Everything was wonderful.
Review 54:We were up on the 11th floor but still very noisy at night which impacted our sleep. The breakfast was very basic but it was complimentary.
Review 55:The room is great and a good size, especially as we were only there to sleep. Location is fantastic, close the subway also the Chelsea markets and great restaurants. The staff are wonderful and always very helpful. When we complained about the street noise at night they sent up an 'ear plug' to put over the window. This did muffle the noise some what.
Review 56:I loved the patio bar you used to have. Having somewhere that you cansocialize and congregate is the only downfall.
Review 57:Location. Staff. Quiet oasis amidst the craze! Amenities. Top notch.
Review 58:the loud sounds from the street until very late at night
Review 59:the comfort of the room, the terrace with complimentary wine and appetizers, the neighbourhood, the design
Review 60:The stairs in front. If you are a family with strollers it's a bit of a pain, granted that the staff was helpful bringing it up and down for me. I just wished I knew in advance.
Review 61:Short stay but very friendly staff. Extremely helpful. I was with my 3 1/2 month child and they were very helpful with carrying the stroller up and down the stairs.
Review 62:The location is perfect for us to come and visit our granddaughter who lives nearby. The staff is friendly and helpful and we always enjoy our time at the Maritime.
Review 63:The hotel has a great location with friendly and helpful staff. All requests were met and in fact the housekeeping manager checked to see that rooms were cleaned to guest satisfaction.
Review 64:The hotel food and drinks facilities are currently under renovations but it didn't impact or stay. Great free breakfast and afternoon wine and cheese complimentary to guests.
Review 65:Pillows were too flat. Not able to adjust AC. Window does not seal completely.
Review 66:Front desk people were very friendly and helpful. All employees were very friendly. Decor was very nautical which was just what we wanted. The room felt like a cabin on a ship. Great view. Comfy bed. Cool open shower.
Review 67:Downtown Manhattan can be noisy at night with sirens. Thankfully the hotel supplies earplugs.
Review 68:Short walk to restaurants in Meatpacking district and one block to the Subway and Chelsea market. Extremely friendly staff with 24hour doorman. Free breakfast in am and complimentary wine & cheese daily from 5 to 10 pm. Served in an indoor-outdoor lounge which is quiet and peaceful.
Review 69:I fell in love with the room. I've stayed in several different hotels, but none of them compared to the quality of the Maritime. The room was stalked with anything you could've possibly needed. Everything that was provided in the room was also of high quality. I was very pleasantly surprised with my stay. I would definitely go back again.
Review 70:Dark hallways were dreary. Smell of paint but understand that things were being refreshed.
Review 71:The setback from 9th avenue made the hotel very quiet for sleeping.
Review 72:We couldn't get a reservation for all the dates we needed
Review 73:Complimentary wine and cheese tasting in a tropical island atmosphere in the middle of New York, maritime theme in the decoration, breathtaking views from the hotel room
Review 74:Heard in reception as Navy guests checked in - that there were Smoking rooms- I would NOT stay again if they have SMOKING!
Review 75:Great location!Very quiet rooms and complimentary wine Cheese and continental breakfast
Review 76:Pillows were a bit too soft
Review 77:The hotel was great. The staff were very nice and accommodating to our early arrival. The breakfast was basic, but had everything you need. They offer a complimentary wine and cheese bar from 5-10 which was a good surprise. The location is awesome with citi bike rentals right outside, or get a free bike from the front desk! Also Chelsea Market is right across the street and is an awesome place to eat for the indecisive person like myself.
Review 78:We really liked the friendly staff, great location and the breakfast and happy hour free at a lovely cabana style club room. There was nothing that we didn't like!!!
Review 79:My only complaint was that it was very very chilly in my room. To the point where if I wasn't under the covers, I needed to put the complimentary thick robe on. Despite turning the thermastat up to 80 a few times. The heat never kicked in. Thank God we were only there for one night.
Review 80:Employees were very welcoming and hospitable.
Review 81:Beds are fairly small, though comfortable. The room could have included a desk chair for the desk for writing or using the internet.
Review 82:As someone that grew up in NYC, I always loved that building, and loved the thematic approach you took in reviving it as a hotel. All the design touches - the tiles, the bed, the bathroom, the outfits, the logo, give it a fun mid-20th century ambience. Well done!
Review 83:There is a covered "deck" with nautically themed furnishings where the hotel provides complimentary wine in the early evening and breakfast in the morning. The hotel also has an arrangement with a parking garage across the street that is very convenient.
Review 84:The rooms were smaller than I anticipated, which was ok, because we didn't spend a lot of time in the room. The hallways were dark. I understand the nautical theme with thhe dark blue paint -- but it wasn't well lit.
Review 85:Parking directly across the street and the hotel validated -- only $32 a day!! The front desk staff was amazing !!! The breakfast was much more than "free continental."
Review 86:Clean, funky hotel with comfortable rooms and great public spaces. Very good complimentary breakfast and 5-10pm snacks and beer/wine but once the restaurant reopens I'm not sure if this will still be available. We'll stay again regardless.
Review 87:The only way in or out of the hotel is via a flight of stairs. If you have any trouble walking this is an inconvenience. Also, the ground floor restaurant and bar has been closed since Nov. 2014. We didn't realize that when booking; the restaurant gave the place its pulse and now it feels very deserted in the evenings.
Review 88:The location is great if you want to be near the Chelsea Market, High Line and Meatpacking District.
Review 89:Complimentary breakfast and evening drinks while restaurant closed was a nice touch as it was bitterly cold outside while we were in NYC. Staff was very helpful and pleasant.
Review 90:Doorman not always present and had to carry luggage up and down lobby stairs. Safe was too small for computer.
Review 91:I travel for work in the Chelsea neighborhood and I love that there are bigger hotel amenities with a boutique feel. My partner travelled with me this time and the room was plenty big enough for both of us. There is very ample storage for luggage and clothing. Closets had lights that turned on upon opening. I despise dark hotel rooms(the hallways were really dark) and aside from the closets, there were also four lighting options in the room which all had dimmers plus an additional wall light. Although, I did not use the minibar, it was stocked with a great assortment of food, beverages, sex aids and perfume. The bathroom was very clean-I'm a neat freak in that department. Toiletries were C.O. Bigelow, abundant and also included a loofah, toothpaste and nice face pads. Plush robes and a makeup mirror were a bonus. The room had a large clear umbrella for use, which came in handy during a couple days of my stay. There were several magazines in the room-Gotham, Timeout, Paper, and a couple others that were a nice addition and gave a preview of what else was going on during my stay. I ended up seeing a great film at the IFC and a featured gallery show that wasn't on my radar. The room binder was informational had menus from area restaurants that delivered, a great selection of films listed by genre to watch in-room and the lobby had cozy sitting areas surrounded by rows and rows of books and a fireplace! Continental breakfast was in a beautiful atrium with nice view and complimentary drinks and food in the evening. I was torn between Dream and Maritime(they are right next door to each other) when booking my stay, but after reading about the DJ in the lobby at dream, the noise levels, and comparing room size, I paid a little extra to stay at Maritime and I'm so glad I did. I don't need a party scene and like the quiet nature of the building as a respite from the day. It's my new favorite hotel and I will definitely be back.
Review 92:One of the door men was not helpful and unfriendly but that was an exception, the others were extremely nice and helpful
Review 93:Everything, great the complimentary wine and snacks.
Review 94:Nothing!
Review 95:Friendliness of staff Wine & cheese View from room included the river Great stateroom motif of room Terrific C.O.Bigelow toiletries Wonderful fluffy towels and robes
Review 96:Restaurant has closed down and won't reopen for another 6 months.
Review 97:they had set up a bar offering free wine and cheese very night to compensate for the closure of the restaurant.
Review 98:The hotel was in a great location with a very friendly staff. The restaurant has recently closed down, but the hotel offered breakfast all morning. Rooms were a bit small but very clean and well designed. This hotel was perfect for an overnight stay.
Review 99:Didn't have any dislikes
Review 100:Great location away from large numbers of tourists, but easy access to the subway and plenty to do by foot. Hotel was very clean. Love the nautical theme without being tacky. Free wifi worked great. Seemed to be the best value for the location and quality of hotel especially at Christmas time. Will stay again in a heartbeat.
Review 101:There was hair all over my bedroom, and the tables had finger prints, and there were finger prints on the window. The carpet was dirty, dusty.
Review 102:Everything except for the cleanliness
Review 103:My only issue was with the heating unit in the room - I had trouble turning the heat down but I also never took the time to call the Front Desk for help, so that's on me. Ok, one other thing I didn't love was the stairs to get to the lobby. I am sure there HAS to be an ADA entrance somewhere but I couldn't find it. Not my favorite thing after schlepping my luggage up from the parking garage, but a minor point.
Review 104:LOVED the porthole window. The room is small but not for NYC. The space is used extremely well and feels comfortable. Parking across the street was an amazing perk, plus it is actually inexpensive with hotel validation. My bill for 26 hours was $109 originally, but I only paid $37.
Review 105:Elements of the hotel need upgrading (ie. main entrance & elevators). A pillow menu would've also been helpful as I found them to be too soft.
Review 106:Staff was absolutely superb.
Review 107:The transportation we had booked through the hotel did not show up at the airport, and we had a long wait. However, the staff were very apologetic and gave us complimentary drinks and diner.
Review 108:Loved the location. The hotel is very nautically themed, which we loved. We were given a high floor , as requested, which meant we had a nice view. The staff were friendly, relaxed and helpful
Review 109:The place, although has a nice retro feel, is a touch dated. The place "could" be musty because of its age, but seems they are on top of cleaning. But I almost feel even if they are doing a good at cleaning mustiness is just below the surface. Maybe it's time to update.
Review 110:We enjoyed our stay at Maritime. The Chelsea Market is around the corner. We spent time there for meals both days we were there. The hotel's Japanese nautical interior was fun. Complimentary bottle of red wine was a nice surprise. Quality of toiletries excellent. Room was neat and has nice touches, but for those who are a even bit claustrophobic, might not be great. Because it is cruise-ship tight. Door men very efficient, courteous, and helpful! Makes a big difference! Quality of hotel's note cards is top notch! Would stay there again!!!
Review 111:Steps up to the lobby from the street and the doorman wasn't always as helpful as you'd expect Restaurant staff were a bit grumpy
Review 112:Location Accommodating staff which is hugely appreciated when travelling with a toddler (16 months old) Calm relaxed atmosphere
Review 113:The room was advertised as a larger room. It was tiny and not clean. There was even two spots of blood on the sheets. Don't give in to the free bottle of wine it is not worth it.
Review 114:Nothing.
Review 115:The shower water temperature ran cold and then hot, I think the thermostatic valve was broken. This made for a lousy shower experience. I should have changed rooms. No coffee maker in room and hotel restaurant was only ok and expensive!
Review 116:I found the room to be comfortable and well appointed, and compact - not too small! Staff was low key and polite.
Review 117:Room was small but hey, welcome to New York.
Review 118:Staff was helpful and the neighborhood was great. Decor was much more sophisticated than I expected for a maritime theme.
Review 119:Lobby has a wonderful library but the lighting is too dim to actually read for very long.
Review 120:Restaurants on site; wonderful room service and terrific prices. Great valet service, always someone at the door to assist. Lovely view from my room of setting sun over the city.
Review 121:Weird loud whistling sound from the ventilation -- even though the excellent window plug blocked outdoor noise, still needed to sleep with earplugs.
Review 122:Love the atmosphere and decor, felt cozy. Window plug excellent for blocking outdoor sound and light. Will definitely stay again!
Review 123:A little noisy. But we didn't mind. We never hear that kind of city noise, so we actually opened the windows and slept great. The bed was so comfortable. Room kind of small for my liking, but definitely manageable. I understand that's pretty normal in NYC!
Review 124:Perfect locatation! Highline, Chelsea Market, restaurants, night life, staff, all excellent!
Review 125:Wireless - Its way way worse than last visit, almost bad enough now that I wouldn't stay a 7th time. Its not the worst wireless I've seen, I've stayed in one hotel worse.
Review 126:Location, Staff, Facilities, Rooms.
Review 127:Room was very tight. And you could here a lot of the street noise and we were on the 10 floor and herd people and horns till about 5.
Review 128:Everything was clean. Staff was great. Room was very tight
Review 129:Loved the location. We've been to NYC many times and chose not to stay in Midtown which is too busy and touristy for us. We loved the location which was more of a NY neighborhood feel. Great bar/restaurant at hotel. Rooms were small but very comfortable and clean. Easy check in/check out and staff was very helpful.
Review 130:My radar went up when they place ear plugs on both sides of the bed. It seemed a bit like a frat house. A little loud.
Review 131:Love the location! Couldn't be any closer to the best venues in town!
