Reviews for Lazy Hostel
Review 1:Dorm rooms are very hot (even with A/C fans), beds are uncomfortable and cramped with the pull across curtains. Definitely the most expensive hostel room I paid for in all my 8 weeks of traveling.
Review 2:Friendly and cheerful bar staff, great food and drink, good showers and toilets.
Review 3:The bar and restaurant is a happening place. Great location along the malecon in Esperanza. I had a private room with a shared bathroom and patio area with the other private room. There was a separate back entrance. They were very accommodating to our service dog. This was a great hostel to stay at and I highly recommend it!
Review 4:The fridge a bit dirty:maybe rethink how to use it. Suggestion: clothes washer for visitors.
Review 5:The little curtain on the side of the bed. The breakfast. To be able to leave my stuff after checkout. To be able to have a shower at 2 pm after checkout with a clean towel : very appreciated.
Review 6:Way too noisy if you just need to sleep and common rooms are of questionable hygiene but I guess you get what you pay for...
Review 7:Great location, friendly helpful staff
Review 8:They are a bit more formal than other places i've stayed in. Charge a key deposit, and another refundable deposit. If you move past these things however, everything is really awesome.
Review 9:Everything. The staff, the location, the facilities. Todo bien!
Review 10:I wasn't really keen on sharing bathrooms and showers but I never had a bad experience. Besides that everything was well kept and clean.
Review 11:How helpful everyone was and the cleanliness of the place.
Review 12:I wish there was wifi in non-common areas (common pain point for hostels), and was disappointed that there was not a happy hour at the bar (or discounts for hostel guests).
Review 13:The staff (especially the manager, I can't remember her name) were fantastic and gave lots of great recommendations of places to got. The location is a prime spot right on the malecon, and walking distance from everything in Esperanza. The common areas were clean. There were more than enough bathrooms/showers for the number of rooms/dorms and the attached bar is a "hot spot" at night. Overall highly recommended, especially if you want the real "island life" atmosphere (including the roosters crowing outside your window, which comes with the territory...)
Review 14:As a solo traveler, I go to hostels to meet other people. At this particular hostel that was hard because common areas did not lend themselves to socialization (no food or drink allowed) and were more utilized by staff than guests. Lower bunks were also too short to sit up in and breakfast was very minimal, even by hostel standards. Oh, and I saw a little mouse run across the common space and behind the bookcase.
Review 15:Colorful , creative decor and free book exchange
Review 16:Service was slow, kind of laid back. Some of the customers we met actually work there! Being drunk and loud isn't our cup of tea but the place served it's purpose!
Review 17:We came to the Lazy Hostel, looking for a cheap priced place to sleep while we went to mosquito bay. The Lazy Hostel filled our needs.Food was good.
Review 18:That was the most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept in.
Review 19:The location was perfect. The food was good. The staff is mainly college kids working for room and board so it was amazing.
Review 20:The main issue for this hostel was that access to the kitchen is limited in terms of timing. It closes at midnight (which wasn't a problem), but doesn't open until 8am, which proved to be problematic for us because we wake early and also had an 8am flight we had to make. Because the kitchen isn't attached to the main sleeping quarters, I can understand a need to lock it in order to keep non-guests from accessing; it makes the most sense to provide guests with an additional key to the kitchen lock. Just an idea for improvement. Otherwise, everything about our stay was great.
Review 21:The location of this place was perfect - near a lot of great restaurants and walking distance to the sun bay, which we really enjoyed.
Review 22:The hostel is in an amazing location with friendly staff and great amenities. A perfect spot to walk to shops, restaurants, rentals and an amazing beach, Sun Bay. Lazy Jacks, next door is the THE place to go for fresh pizza and tasty food, hot music and cool drinks, the Painkiller is a must.
Review 23:The place itself is a barn with gravel floors. Very loud at night from the bar, they should at least provide ear plugs. Staff was not helpful. One of them was great and the other one - every question I asked she had to Google. I could have done the same myself.
Review 24:The location of this hostel is ideal. Great to have free wifi and free coffee. Good for single young people who want to party on a budget and meet others. Not good for anyone else.
Review 25:The lockers in the 8-bed all-female dorms don't actually lock :/ I put my lock on all of them and you could still just lift the handle up and open it. Maybe I was using it wrong (not sure how)??
Review 26:I knew this place was going to be a blast as soon as the bartender at the bar next door helped me check in by using his walkie-talkie to radio back to 'Atreyu' from his handle, 'Falcor' :P I only stayed one night and will definitely be back for a longer stay. Everyone was so accommodating and the hostel itself is a great atmosphere. I miss it and I was only there a few hours!
Review 27:Nothing .
Review 28:All the staff are so efficient, hard working, extremely helpful and very friendly. I will definitely return to stay at lazy hostel. Because of the way I was treated by the great staff.:-)
Review 29:Staff were intermittently present, and those who were visible were quite dismissive. The "breakfast" wasn't available in the morning, so I had to make my own pot of coffee in their kitchen. There's a large gap beneath the room door, so lots of noise gets in. There was some confusion about our bill, and if I hadn't shown my receipt I would have been overcharged. Security was pretty much non-existent (maybe that's OK in this community?).
Review 30:The hostel is across the road from the beach in phenomenally beautiful Esperanza, Vieques island. Wi-fi is great, there's a list of things to do and restaurants to eat at, there are separate toilet and shower rooms, our room had an A/C unit, and it was clean. They were flexible with our early arrival, for which I am extremely grateful.
Review 31:I didn't feel comfortable sleeping in the room because the room was so tight and I felt like it was not clean enough. Water in the shower was not hot but it's ok in such a warm weather.
Review 32:The location of the hostel is awesome. It's just in the heart of restaurants and there's a grocery only 1 mins away. The restaurant next to the hostel was excellent and we had so much fun! Most of the staff was travelers, I enjoyed talking to them.
Review 33:They were understaffed, could never find any staff to ask a question, need some upkeep and repairs
Review 34:Location is prime, bar attached is convenient, new kitchen and laundry are a super bonus!!!
Review 35:Great Location, staff was awesome. Dylan and Brittany were very helpful with accommodation, Francis and Mike provide excellent service at the bar and restaurant.
Review 36:The room smells a little.
Review 37:Very overpriced. Mosquitoes EVERYWHERE. General look of disrepair, unattractive hostel.
Review 38:Pros: Friendly, awesome staff. In the heart of Esperanza.
Review 39:Not only was lazy a great place to stay, at night it is the best place in Esparanza.
Review 40:near the
Review 41:have to agree it can be good for money
Review 42:That i didnt have mote time at vieqeus!
Review 43:The staff made me feel welcome atd take care of the guests
Review 44:No wifi in the room
Review 45:The location and staff
Review 46:Bunk beds Small rooms, cramped up space for un/packing n moving around
Review 47:Everyone was friendly Baths were clean Location
Review 48:FIESTA,STAFF,FRIENDLY,CLOSE TO THE BEACH,CHEAP
Review 49:The beer wasn't free
Review 50:The nightlife, great beaches, wild horses, the locals were friendly
Review 51:Dirty, bunks bed not clean and the drapes for the beds stinks urine
Review 52:Great staff ,wifi, close to the beach, kind of THE community there...
Review 53:Noise of other guest
Review 54:the style of the hostel and the staff they were really good
Review 55:No kitchen, staff is extremely spacy. We booked a private room with two beds and were told on arrival that none were available. Group rooms were standard hostel fare. Wifi is slooooooooow.
Review 56:Right on beach and close to scooter rentals. Atmosphere was pretty cool- lots of international travelers and it's easy to make friends. Food at the bar was pretty good and the bartenders were a lot of fun. Reasonable prices for a vacation island.
Review 57:The kitchen was pretty much non-existent. They only had a mini-fridge and the door was held shut by tape that wasn't even sticky anymore. There wasn't any dishes or silverware, and there wasn't anything for cooking. I didn't stay there long enough for it to matter to me, but I imagine if someone wanted to be able to cook a few of their meals instead of eating out every time, it would be difficult to do it here.
Review 58:I loved the bright and beachy theme of this place. It really made me feel like I was on vacation, not just staying at the cheapest place I could find. Also there's an outdoor bar and restaurant with great food and drinks, and it seems to be the local hangout, so you don't need to go anywhere in the evenings to have an awesome time.
Review 59:There was a rather huge piece of rusty metal lying in our room, the room was not cleaned properly, the sheets had spots on them and the same applies for towels that we got directly from the reception as "clean". The showers seemed like they were not cleaned up for a longer time.
Review 60:The staff was helpfull.
Review 61:It was your standard hostel room, the only issue I had was there was a very bright red Exit sign in the room for the only door in the room- it exited to the central room of the hostel. Not sure if this was a joke, but the bright light made it difficult to sleep.
Review 62:The people were fantastic and very informative. the central courtyard was a nice place to meet other travelers and I appreciated the access to the kitchen setup and hammock.
Review 63:if you don't want a party in you hostel, don't stay here during the weekend as it's the place to be for tourists and locals alike. Great fun and energy, but it will go on until 3am so if you're not prepared to join in or wear your earplugs, don't choose this hostel.
Review 64:location, space to relax if you don't want to go to the beach, affordable place on an otherwise pricey island
Review 65:Great location. Party goes on till 3 am on the weekend.
Review 66:Too loud to sleep at night. Private room is tiny and shabby.
Review 67:Staff speaks English and is helpful.
Review 68:The bedroom not clean when we arrive
Review 69:The location
Review 70:Lack of cleanliness. Bright colors don't mask the funkiness of the rooms and bathrooms.
