Reviews for Blue Horizon Boutique Resort
Review 1:I did not like the cleaning of the room and the time waiting when ordering food. The staff was polite but looked like they had the sadest job ever. Even after complaining the cleaning of the room was poor. Full of Ants climbing on the wall. Dust and dirt all over the walls, lamps, frames and floor. It was quite obvious that cleaning was not even done when we got checked in. After complaining the day after we were assured it should be done. Sadly it was not big difference more than that you could see that house keeping had been there. Asked for compensation since we only stayed for 3 nights but it was not possible because we booked with "booking.com". Celebrated our day of marriage on the 27th and decided to eat in the restaurant at the hotel. Sadly, we had to wait for one and a half hour for the food and my wife after waiting for the drinks 45 min went to get them herself. Disaster! Wanted to the get in contact with responsible person but only got an email address. It was not possible to call (?).
Review 2:I likes the view that was fabulous. Also the kitchen was very good.
Review 3:A lot of sins can be forgiven with the views and location - the up keep of the rooms was not perfect...paint chipping off the ceilings, mega dust on the ceiling fans, salt and grime around fixtures. Food was expensive and not always the best, bar was expensive. Bring a cooler and stock up on cocktails from the local grocer. Make sure to tell them you do not want the room next to the office - no privacy and public bathrooms next to unit. Bring plenty of mosquito repellent for morning and evenings. It is a no swim beach at the grounds due to sea urchins and rocks/boulders. Nice black sand beach nearby.
Review 4:Views, location and grounds were spectacular! Private balcony, sitting rooms and infinity pool was beautiful. Grounds were immaculate. Cliff side view of the ocean and islands -breathtaking. Truly a place to unwind, close to the village and many activities.
Review 5:Mosquitos, no hot water for bath, little far from the town
Review 6:The hotel has a swimming pool and private beach. Bar closes at 10pm. Excellent layout and classical furniture.
Review 7:The view of the hotel was beautiful, especially sitting at the restaurant looking out at the ocean. The bar was quite nice as well. It felt like we had the whole place to ourselves.
Review 8:First the fron desk service bad. The day that i check inn the front desk person was so in a bad mood and when we arrive to the room not was ready and some one was fixing something in the bathtroom. the day of the checkout i was charge for things that i do not consume and the front desk person did not gave any explanation. They did not change the bed clothes the firsta night.
Review 9:The infinity pool and the view of the ocean
Review 10:This was our 3rd trip in the past year to The Blue , we love the location but the staff are incredibly flexible and helpful to their guests. The location is priceless and the chefs are seriously talented with the menu. I enjoyed everything on the menu that I tried!
Review 11:Complimentary coffee in the morning would be nice.
Review 12:Staff very helpful answering questions about facilities and things to do both on/off site. Beautiful location with very relaxing atmosphere. Clean and well maintained.
Review 13:No maid service so bed sheets were not changed or the bed made after the first night of our stay. Food service in the restaurant was slow.
Review 14:Great views of the ocean
Review 15:Location was perfect, close enough to town, Esperanza to walk if you like to and the staff were very accommodating and nice. Small resort of only 10 rooms so you get to know the other guests which we found great. The food was the best we had on the island, with the breakfast a standout. Loved the pool. We visited the W and the Hix house and we were happy with our choice.
Review 16:No coffee in the room ($3 per cup in restaurant) The air conditioner was very loud The frogs and other critters were loud also (Obviously not something Hotel can control)
Review 17:The views The pool The bed is comfy The breakfast was great Great location for visiting Bio Bay
Review 18:There were no blinds on the bathroom window and had to make shift with a towel. Informed the front desk but they didn´t offer to help. The water heater stopped working o the second day and received no attention.
Review 19:Ambience. The food at Carambola was delicious
Review 20:We chose not to dine at the onsite restaurant for dinner as it was just too quiet and I don't believe you can serve a good menu, with all fresh ingredients when you have no flow of business turn over. We had over priced drinks in the bar our 1st night and we were the only customers aside from staff talking at one end. We both laughed and said "Hotel California". (You can check in but you can NEVER leave). It is off season, however there are plenty of other very good places to eat! (We recommend "The Tradewinds" in Esperanza)
Review 21:Extremely relaxing & comfortable. We will return! Excellent breakfasts.
Review 22:No coffee maker or refrigerator. Everything at the "resort" was massively over priced (I.e. Very small cup of coffee was $3.50). Also, if you plan on walking around the island rather than rent a car, think again. The Blue is quite a ways away from Esperanza.
Review 23:The pool was very nice
Review 24:Wifi only worked in the main building not the rooms, dinner was good but fairly pricey, cocktails were average.
Review 25:The staff were lovely, the food in the restaurant was good, breakfast and lunch is reasonably priced and tasty, the location was beautiful and was only a short walk/journey to Esperanza, great views of the sea, really nicely decorated detached bunglaows. Recommend hiring one of their jeeps and visiting secluded beaches, many of which we had to ourselves. We enjoyed our stay here.
Review 26:The shower had a leak and you had to make some trick to get the toilet to stop flushing water.
Review 27:The restaurant has delicious meals. The pool is open 24/7. Reception was helpful and kind.
Review 28:Beautiful location! The rooms are in separate cottages, so it feels very cozy and secluded. We stayed in the Judith room and had a beautiful view of the sea and stars. We also received a huge discount on our room and were upgraded upon arrival—the perks of visiting in the off season!
Review 29:I book this hotel as a gift for my father, he spend long weekend in the hotel. And told me that everything was great even with the fact that they was just getting out of storm Erika. Location is great...
Review 30:no bad experience. I was there before and during TS Erica and the remoteness of not being able to leave the island was my issue. I enjoyed my stay
Review 31:Peace, serenity were wonderful. Staff was great, along with the food
Review 32:There is nothing I didnt like!
Review 33:I enjoyed every single detail about this place! The restaurant with the ocean view, the nightd at the bar. Absolutely everything!
Review 34:We felt the restaurant and bar were over-priced and found ourselves visiting the melocon for meals often. We wish we had complimentary coffee in the mornings. We also found a few cockroaches in our room which made me very uncomfortable.
Review 35:My husband and I traveled during the off-season so we had a lot of privacy at the resort. The staff were also very friendly.
Review 36:Further from town center, aiport and ferry. Did not have bed available first night for one guest and they had to sleep on floor although it was clearly mentioned when booking.
Review 37:Qiuet and private. Great facilities
Review 38:The service in the restaurant was at times slow. Miscommunication with returning our rented jeep.
Review 39:The hotel ocean front view from property was wonderful. Our room was private but looked out onto the ocean. It was a tropical paradise! The food was very good. Great place for romantic vacation! Was able to rent a jeep and drop it off at our hotel.
Review 40:Our bedding had stains that was pretty gross, and the pics of the "resort" were falsifying. They showed nice Sandy beaches with the ocean, and you couldn't even touch the water.
Review 41:We loved the staff! They were so nice and definitely gave the best service possible, and also the food, very pretty presentation and delicious!
Review 42:Rooms are not cleaned properly. It seems the furniture will fall apart when you touch something. Some of the Staff are rude. When Arrived after flight in the morning was told to wait until 2 pm for a room to be ready. 2 on the dot and not a minute earlier! This is a joke considering the prices they charge. The hotel only calls itself boutique although it is far from that. The garden grounds are not being watered and it is not raining on the island so the plants look almost dead. 'Boutique' sofas in the lobby look only nice to look at. Somehow you do not want to sit there. The room I was first given was dark and small with no view (although I booked garden view). I could not sleep as airconditioner was loud and mosquitoes were biting. When asked to change after sleepless night I was treated rudely by the same receptionist woman.
Review 43:Location is not bad. Ocean side. Room location by the ocean.
Review 44:They Charge 3 Dollars for coffee. There is no coffee makers in the rooms That was a turn off. Also no mini fridge in the rooms. Would of been nice to have a TV
Review 45:The property is really beautiful. Even thou it was a dry spell. The pool was beautiful but should invest in better chairs. The staff was really friendly.
Review 46:The windows leaked heat into the room and so the A/C had to go 24/7, but not a noisy A/C thank goodness. Unfortunate that they don't really have a beach. Probably best to have a car to use
Review 47:We had a patio which was great to look out from. Also, neat that they gave you a free run and coke. The restaurant had great food. Super pool and nice towels to use when you went to the beach elsewhere on the island.
Review 48:No WiFi in the rooms nor a coffee maker.
Review 49:Food, Beach, climbing the rocks, mountain views, infinity pool, great drinks, quiet and free from kids!!! Also, the pool was open 24 hours..unlike other places that close it at 6pm!! what a rip off (not Blue Horizon, though). Much recommended.
Review 50:The grounds and the accommodations were exactly as pictured online. The staff including Jeannette and Jasmine were so sweet and accommodating. The breakfast and coffee was really good.
Review 51:We went unexpectedly and ended up with an amazing hacienda on an amazing property with amazing staff. This place is 6 stars out of 5!!! Simply loved it!
Review 52:I believe the food prices are slightly a little pricey and small portions, but...it tastes amazing! And great coffee too!
Review 53:Great place to take off and disappear with the love of your life! The ocean view is breathtaking and the facilities are great.
Review 54:Staff was helpful before and during the stay. Located within 5 minutes of Esperanza and with convenient jeep rental onsite. Property is beautiful with an infinity pool on the premises and beaches within walking distance east and west. Restaurant was great for easy and delicious meals if you feel like staying in and dining with a beautiful view. Will be returning.
Review 55:Way over priced. Place is very run down. No mid-range on-site food options is a hassle without vehicle.
Review 56:Beautiful location. Gorgeous pool. Room 100 (Neptune) was very nice. Friendly, helpful staff. Good wifi. No kids!
Review 57:The resort felt a little empty but is great if you want the seclusion. The beach is very difficult to get to, but kind of cool once you so get to it. Lastly it's the dry season, so everything was dry and brown looking (on the whole island).
Review 58:Jeanette was great and very accommodating. The property was almost even more beautiful at night with all the colorful lighting. Felt like a tropical ranch with horses on property. The food was surprisingly good.
Review 59:Maybe the bed. But that was not a big deal. Slept well.
Review 60:The beaches of the island are amazing. In our 3 days we saw very few travelers. Even on the best beaches we only saw a couple of people. It was amazing. Blue horizons was a great place to stay. Great location. Close to the best beaches. You can rent a jeep right on site. That was very easy and cheap. You will need a car to explore. Take every trail. Most lead to a great beach. The staff was super friendly and helpful. POOL IS AMAZING. GREAT VEIWS AND STEPS FROM THE BEACH.
Review 61:I spent my last night in emergency room after being bitten by a wild horse in the property parking lot. I was not feeding or attempting to feed. Horses on island becoming aggressive. Hotel could have done more, pay my copay at hospital ect
Review 62:The staff and the property
Review 63:Wifi doesn't reach the individual rooms. Room we were in had a few very easy to repair maintenance issues. Not a deal breaker
Review 64:Incredible sea view, great pool, very private setting
Review 65:Staff was great but too few of them at check in and for car rental. Breakfast was delicious but took a long time and is pricey.
Review 66:the location was private yet close to town and beaches. Everything was beautifully appointed and clean. Breakfast was excellent and the bed perfect--slept like a baby with the spun of the ocean outside.
Review 67:Showers were tepid, staff really didn't have good knowledge of preparing or serving food. Could not even get a pot of hot water for my morning tea. Trips they arranged were mediocre in quality
Review 68:Our room was delightful- quiet, romantic, and cozy. Staff was courteous and kind.
Review 69:a little pricey, but I think I would have gotten more value if my arrival/departure schedule had given us more time at the property
Review 70:the staff was excellent. I had trouble getting a cab, and the front desk called every cab company in the book until somebody sent one, including consistently redialing when the lines were busy instead of waiting a few minutes. very friendly, and very agreeable to our unique check-out needs
Review 71:Almost too quiet! If your truly trying to get away from it all, this is it. The bar and dining areas are beautiful but nearly empty of people.
Review 72:The location on the ocean can not be beat. Esperanza is a must see little town. I suggest renting a car if you plan on exploring the island. Also suggest using Abe for any tour ie snorkeling or biobay. Eat in Esperanza. Duffy's is great for drinks lunch and dinner. Alot of action there.
Review 73:Room supposed to be garden view but overlooked the courtyard couches. Room is tired...Needs deep clean. Closet is rusty shelves with NO hangers. Long sandy rutty driveway, onsite bar and restaurant but few patrons. WHY? They don't have menus in rooms or even TRY to get guests to dine there. Who's in charge of the place?
Review 74:Location overlooking ocean. Open air couches for lounging. Nice pool. Close to intown bars and restaurants.
Review 75:The room was small and dark, the bed was weirdly high off the ground, small and quite uncomfortable. You can't open the door from inside without the key which is irritating. There's a mirror placed so you see yourself sitting on the toilet. The room really is a shame because the hotel is so amazing! They also overcharged us for food which we hasn't seemed like a priority for the hotel staff to resolve.
Review 76:The communal areas - pool, lounge, garden, restaurant, bars - are clean and beautiful and make you feel like you are in paradise. The food wasn't cheap but was delicious.
Review 77:No bad experiences...just attention to very little details in the bathroom. Missing mirror and tile/grout work could be better? Again, very minor things that need to be kept in mind as the property ages. The managers office next to the open living room: if you're going to pile things up there, keep the door closed at all times. No one likes to see disarray.
Review 78:The property is ideally located in Esperanza, away from the noise but close enough to experience local nightlife. The pool! The whole property was beautifully planned. The staff is wonderful. It takes tremendous effort to make this place what it is as everything has to be shipped in on the ferry.
Review 79:The only complaint is that the native locals although friendly are not very service oriented. Waiting an hour for a simple breakfast meal or having to track down and confront a bartender for a drink is not uncommon. Wifi in common area only.
Review 80:The grounds are absolutely lovely and uncrowded. Comfortable rooms with plenty of privacy.
Review 81:We came to the Blue Horizon last year and had a good time. We could deal with very little hot water, occasionally receiving clean towel and so on. This recent visit we also stayed in the room named Neptune. We payed 300.00 dollars a night. The last night we where there at midnight someone with a key was coming into our room. So frighting! We will never return to this property,it is not safe. In the evening no one is around and in the morning when we told them what happened, we where told it was the owner who got in late and didn't realize anyone was in the room. Do not go to this property. If your going on vacation the one thing you want to feel is safe in your room.
Review 82:Dinner did not match the price. Staff was not attentive, had to keep locating them. Bar was a bit pricey to and we would of drank more there if prices were a bit better
Review 83:The place and staff where excellent. Restaurant was ok for breakfast and lunch. Location is fabulous and very relaxing..
Review 84:One Waitress On First Night Was Rude And Bully Like. However, Rosa And Jenealle Are Diamonds!!!!!! Dinner Overpriced , breakfast And Grill Menu Awesome!
Review 85:The Blue Horizon was the epitome of quiet & tranquility. Our first night was so quiet and peaceful. Only a few villas with breathtaking views. If you are looking for an eclectic Amazingly Peaceful Resort The Blue Is The Place. To Make Your Stay Great Get Driver Named Coqui.....& if You Want The Most Amazing Massage Ask Jenealle front Desk To Call Judith. She Will Come To Your Villa! Amazingly Therapuetic Massage.
Review 86:Bathroom too small, could use some remodeling Way too expensive for what you get Expect some hidden charges
Review 87:Food at the restaurant was great Staff treats you well Landscaping was beautiful Near the best beaches
Review 88:We went here for our honeymoon and loved it. Jeanette was awesome and very accomodating. Loved the open air feel to the whole place. Restaurant was delicious, staff was helpful, room and facilities were very clean. We prefer boutique hotels and Blue Horizon is a perfect example why. Absolutely loved every second of it and we will return.
Review 89:Nothing that we did not like! Only wish we could have stayed longer than 4 nights.
Review 90:The staff, Jeanette and Jasmine were very kind and welcoming! The on site chef is superb and the villa was romantic, comfortable, clean and cozy with a view to the Carribean- we were thoroughly pampered and felt like we were truly in paradise. The infinity pool was lovely too.
Review 91:Not easy access without a car!
Review 92:Almost everything! Good reception, nice room with courtesy rum and coffee, excellent restaurant, very cosy swimming pool under the moonlight! Very spacious gardens for walking and admiring excellent sea views!
Review 93:My boyfriend and I had an amazing time here, even in the off season. The staff was super friendly and helpful the entire time and the infinity pool overlooking the ocean was amazing as well as the private beach. We loved having a private hut to ourselves and loved the romantic vibe. Short walk into town for cheaper restaurants and bars but we also had a great dinner at the restaurant there one night and amazing mojitos. We also went on the biobay tour with dondy- highly recommended as well!! Great stay and very glad we went!!
Review 94:There is very little that I can find to criticize about this beautiful place. The room did need a bit of maintenance and service was a bit slow & grudging in the restaurant one night. These are minor concerns as compared with the many positives of this property
Review 95:bar/restaurant horizon pool landscaping of the grounds the beach below the property-not good for swimming but great beach combing the open air public area the helpful office staff view of "the blue horizon"
Review 96:if you are looking for a pool bar with a steel drum band this isn't it. But if you are looking fora quiet getaway with a gorgeous view you have found it
Review 97:There is no beach in front of the property, but took a taxi back & forth or there is always somebody that will give you a lift
Review 98:Staff was incredible, as was the Manager. The views were breathtaking, cozy rooms, great food, but the most important thing for us, was the deep rest you achieve in that peacefull atmosphere!
Review 99:The trip on the ferry. Next time we'll take the plane!
Review 100:The infinity pool. The food. The drinks. The spectacular view. The tranquility. And last but not least, the staff.
Review 101:No negatives noted.
Review 102:Great setting overlooking the southern coast of Vieques. Beautiful landscaping and unique architectural layout with relatively few guests that produces the amazing illusion you are a billionaire at your own island estate.
Review 103:lack of employes to attend the customers, and give maintenance to the facilities.
Review 104:the location, the beautiful surroundings of the hotel facilities, the special ambiance of the hotel, a mixture of antique and romantic.
Review 105:shabby landscape, brown grass, dirty pool furniture.no real resturants. lunch at 12 not before even if no one in the facility. They lied to us! after no using our room all day..they said they would compensate...OH No said we were given a upgrade to a KIng? thats what we were given upon arrival.
Review 106:the view of the ocean! Could have seen that from anywhere on the island
Review 107:The fan was incredible dirty. Need better shades to block light. TV would be a good addition.
Review 108:Good facilities. Private and quiet place. Pool was incredible. Nice view.
Review 109:Staff really makes things easy to accommodate your needs. The bar stayed open a bit more just for us and also helped us make our reservations with activities. The views by the water under the stars. I asked her to spend the rest of our lives together. Location and everything made this moment perfect!
Review 110:At first, I passed off minor problems as attributable to business on a remote island – such as the room’s hairdryer blowing the fuse each time it is turned on. But there were too many problems to excuse. A list follows. We had to ask twice to get a bar of soap for the shower. We asked twice for the hand soap and lotion to be refilled. There is no TV in the bungalow, which I thought was pretty cool, but there was also no Internet connectivity. Most people who spend $400 per night on a hotel are fairly dependent upon the Internet. At times there was no hot water in the bungalow (like when I wanted to shave). At other times, there was no water pressure (like when my wife wanted to take a shower). We found a previous guest’s phone charger and designer sunglasses on the floor in the room – an indication that the room is not cleaned, or these things would have been found before I found them. We had a fine breakfast here, but cancelled our dinner after waiting over one hour for salad and pasta - which never came - and this was with a dinner reservation. There are no “little things” that you expect at a top-tier resort, such as complimentary drinking water, coffee service, wine and cheese happy hour, fruit – little things that make you feel good. At Blue Horizon, there was nothing – nothing. And there was not even a refrigerator in the bungalow in which to keep my own water or drinks. The last day, they did not even replace the little coffee packet in our room. I cannot believe that the owner of this high-potential property has not seen fit to engage the services of a professional hotelier to make it actually work.
Review 111:The location is spectacular. The grounds and the pool are spectacular. However, every detail beneath this façade was a disappointment.
Review 112:The Food was overpriced and not fresh. The Staff was rude. Specially the bartender lady. The receptionist failed to let me know the four times I called asking for a tour to the luminescent lagoon that it was closed (every other person that I asked in the Island knew, so it is hard to understand how she didn't) The location is really far away from anything so renting a car is a must Bedroom wasn't very clean and the lotion bottle was empty The cushions of the pool chairs where old, ripped and dirty.
Review 113:Nothing! is sad that this hotel is doing so bad. I came here 4 yrs ago with my family and thought it was really nice, this time around was the complete opposite experience for a very expensive night.
Review 114:No TV in the bedroom.
Review 115:Hotel staff was very attentive to out needs. They were talkative and very respectful. Hotel facilities were gorgeous and just so relaxing, specially since there were no children running around being loud. I will definitely plan another vacation here.
Review 116:Nothing.
Review 117:We loved our stay at the Blue Horizon Boutique Resort! The location was perfect. It was convenient to town, but secluded enough to feel like you were the only hotel on the island. The staff were wonderful. We will definitely be staying here again!
Review 118:The beach below the resort was a bit rocky, but just turn left or right for a short walk to pure sand beaches. Rent a Jeep to get around on the island.Still GREAT!
Review 119:The "Blue" was paradise on an island of paradise. Great staff, restaurant and bar. Wild horses everywhere.
Review 120:The small beach was great to explore but not for swimming.
Review 121:The resort is small and lovely, almost like someone's home. The pool was excellent, the food was great, the bar awesome, and the staff was so friendly!
Review 122:No breakfast included. A bit expensive.
Review 123:Friendly Staff, the resort itself, very calm, nice swimingpool, close to the area of restaurants and nightlife.
Review 124:The pool was too cold.
Review 125:The view was espectacular.
Review 126:Not convenience location of you don't have car
Review 127:Seaside resort
Review 128:excellent view and super friendly/helpful staff
Review 129:Restaurant service was a bit slow.
Review 130:The view, the location, the lovely room, and the friendly office staff.
Review 131:A little remote from the town. No Breakfast included.
Review 132:Best view. Great pool.
Review 133:sloppy waitresses and little overpriced food
Review 134:Cozy setting of hotel
Review 135:No water in the room. No mini bar. Loud AC. Old finish. Paint and dirt on the floor.
Review 136:Nice location.
