Reviews for Riad Soleil D'orient
Review 1:Strong focus on the money side of things. Expensive dinner tho I expect food great. Ltd TV
Review 2:Friendly owner (upgraded our room) and very helpful staff. Best breakfast in the country. Great cook. Good courtyard & rooftop terrace, but unfortinately ltd use for us due to rain.
Review 3:It would be impossible to find without specific instructions especially if arriving by taxi. It is in the old town through a busy medina, which in some places is not attractive.
Review 4:Once inside the Riad it was all excellent especially the staff.
Review 5:There is nothing negative to refer about this Riad. Everything was perfect. The only less positive point would be the wifi, which sometimes failed. But this is absolutely normal in a building with large walls and different floors.
Review 6:We stayed at Riad Soleil d'Orient for two nights in August. The location is perfect, in the medina and 5 minutes away from the Cité Portugaise and 10 minutes away from the centre of El Jadida (walking). The place is perfect, very carefully thought and maintained. You can see how the owner and the staff put attention to the details. The breakfast was delicious and even if you may find cheaper options, we think this Riad offers a good value for your money. Olivier, the owner, is very nice and always available and all staff is very friendly and absolutely dedicated to the guests. Even if located in the middle of the medina, it is quiet and peaceful. I definitely recommend this place.
Review 7:A host who only appeared upon request and never made us feel welcome. In two trips to Morocco we have stayed in 6 riads and this is the only time we have experienced this behaviour.A beautiful riad but you are on your own.
Review 8:Very comfortable, an oasis from a not so great area.
Review 9:A beautiful Riad with wonderful staff. Every room was artistically done with a lot of attention to details. The downstairs eating area was lovely and we enjoyed sitting on the deck at night. I highly recommend Riad Soleil. Oliver was a great host.
Review 10:Very few taxi drivers knew how to find the Riad. It's at the end of an alley with a sign. Took the map the Riad gave me and handed it to the taxi drivers then I had no problem.
Review 11:I highly recommend this Riad. I'm a solo woman traveler and felt very safe. The attention to detail in the decor restoration is fantastic. Food is homemade every day. Enjoyed 3 dinners at the Riad. Each dinner comes with appetizer, entree and dessert.
Review 12:The mosque next door is rather loud - not the fault of the riad though, and we easily got back to sleep.
Review 13:The riad is a lovely oasis in El Jadida, with a very friendly, easy going owner, Oliver. He was very helpful in sorting out dinner at the riad for us even though we hadn't booked in advance, and arranging a veggie option for me. The room was excellent, and breakfast in the courtyard delicious. The old Portuguese city is a short walk away.
Review 14:The wifi was a bit temperamental and fairly slow.
Review 15:Entering from a fairly uninspiring street into a beautifully gardened courtyard was a delight. The bedroom was spacious and comfortable. We had the best dinner in any of the riads we stayed in and an interesting wine list was produced. Breakfast was also excellent.
Review 16:Onfortunately the terrace was not available due to construction works and the WI FI on the rooms was not very good
Review 17:Hospitality of owner and staff. Very beautiful room with excellent bed. The way the rooms and dining room were furnished were very tasteful and were done with style and love. And the cook ( a woman made very delicieus meals and extra mintthee for us)
Review 18:Building work ongoing on terrace upstairs, which I was not warned about until arrival Internet did not work at time of arrival for duration of stay, but Oliver (the owner) did absolutely everythig he could up fix it, even calling out engineers late on Saturday night
Review 19:Lovely rooms, comfortable beds, very welcoming host and lovely staff The food is excellent and the views from the terrace are great
Review 20:Building works restricted our enjoyment of the beautiful terrace gardens currently under construction. There wasa problem with the hotwater to our bathroom which meant only warm, but not hot showers and baths. The souk and El Jadida generally is run down and dirty and didnt feel very welcoming for travellers:Good beachside cafes though.Payment is expected in cash which is inconvenient and considering the owners are French seems a bit primitive!!
Review 21:The owner has built a new Riad in the traditional Morrocan style around an oasis of peace garden courtyard. We stayed in the ground floor suite which is beautifully fitted and very comfortable.the staff are extremely helpful, especially Rachid who was happy to guide us around the souk, and the old Portuguese Medina.
Review 22:Being next to the local mosque you cannot fail to hear the morning call to prayers, however this was a minor issue.
Review 23:Everything about the Riad itself was great.
Review 24:I rang ahead to say I am veggie and to order a meal. The cook is fantastic here. I had a 4 course meal for 20 pounds. Breakfast is just as fantastic. Olivier the owner is every helpful and it is a stunning raid to stay at
Review 25:WiFi connection needs resetting now and then, but still quite good
Review 26:Oliver and his staff made us feel as if we arrived at the home of a dear friend with impeccable taste and generous spirit. They are available for anything you ask. Dinner is not to be missed! Outstanding 5 star four-course meal - imaginative and delicious. Library is filled with good reads and classic games. Chess anyone? Fountain, banana trees and other flora in courtyard are lovely (and entertaining for children).
Review 27:Located in a bit of a dodgy looking neighborhood, although it didn't seem unsafe We unfortunately met some creepy crawlies: big cockroach in the bathroom and a mouse in the patio (breakfast area)...
Review 28:Nicely decorated room with a comfortable bed Good breakfast
Review 29:Very nicely furnished an decorated Riad with a beautiful terrace. Oliver, the owner, and his staff are very kind, helpful and professional. The Cité Portugaise is reachable by walking in ten minutes.
Review 30:Oasis of relax in the middle of busy El Jadida. Design, cleanliness, and especially food were outstanding.
Review 31:Fantastic Riad excellent staff and wonderful food. Rooms were beautifully decorated.
Review 32:Extremely friendly and helpful staff, very nice environment and lovely food!
Review 33:Staff were very friendly and helpful, especially with the kids
Review 34:Very friendly staff, excellent breakfast and lovely rooms. Very pretty gardens and upstairs terrace! We loved Tod the owners dog.
Review 35:Great host, smiling staff, excellent food and facilities.
Review 36:El Jadida is a bit shady!!
Review 37:The Riad is great, the staff is very friendly and is perfect if you want to relax for 1/2 days!
Review 38:Address was a bit difficult to locate, but staff worked hard to make this easier. I took an early morning stroll, then found myself locked out on return. Had to wait about 30 minutes before someone was around to open the front door.
Review 39:Beautiful Riad and staff was most helpful. Food was excellent. I recommend eating dinner there.
Review 40:The roof terrace was unavailable during our stay although this is a temporary situation. Also we didn't care for the riad's dog doing its business in the courtyard while we had breakfast!
Review 41:The room was very spacious and pleasantly decorated. The breakfasts were excellent and so was the one evening meal which we had. The staff are very friendly and helpful. All our accumulated laundry was washed and ironed free of charge - much appreciated.
Review 42:Perhaps a little tricky to find. It's right next to a mosque so it's REALLY loud early in the morning.
Review 43:Beautifully furnished rooms with lovely bathroom with best shower. Nice toiletries and good to have a bottle of water included. Nice library and terrace to sit and relax and a lovely courtyard with a banana tree. The breakfast was outstanding, with homemade yoghurt and muesli, eggs, chocolate cake and delicious jams. Very friendly and helpful owner who kindly found us extra accommodation down the road for our son and his girlfriend. They also helped us with parking the car, which was rather tricky given their location. Great place.
Review 44:Our room overlooked the terrace so anyone walking past could see in if the curtains were open. They don't take credit cards.
Review 45:Best food we have had in Morocco, by far. I'd been sick with food poisoning in Essaouria, and Olivier called to ask what I could eat. Every course was a gourmet delight, beautifully presented by elegant staff. Several places to relax, play chess or Scrabble and read. Very quiet. Very clean. Fantastic huge hot shower. All food made in Riad by brilliant experienced Chef, even breads and cakes.
Review 46:the location is bad since you are in the middel of neighborhood its not nice to walk out side doring night the mosque is in front of the riad and it will wake you up at 05:00 !!
Review 47:very nice people good rooms and good breakfast
Review 48:The rooms and the public areas were excellent, the food was superb, and the staff was most helpful and accommodating. The owner of this property has invested heavily in creating a wonderful place to stay and eat.
Review 49:the entrance was blocked for Friday prayers, nothing anyone can do about this but good to know. We turned around and had a lovely couscous lunch in the market so it was a blessing in disguise but we did end of leaving later than we thought we would.
Review 50:great location, right near the local market, so interesting and a short walk to the Portuguese city. The staff was wonderful and the owner so helpful. It was a delight.
Review 51:The location is not great - it is in an area that doesn't feel very safe - poor street lighting etc. It was not easy to find at all. Not a bad stop before the airport in Casablanca - but a bit father than we were told. A bit expensive for the area it is in.
Review 52:Really nice and helpful host who went out of his way to make us feel welcome.
Review 53:- Riad is located in a poor area of the city and a bit scary to get there, specially during the night- the decoration and the environment of the riad is too much European - very bad and expensive dinner
Review 54:- Hospitality and Olivier is extremely gentle
Review 55:Even though our driver was met at the Portugese City gate entry way it was still a 5-10 minute drive through residential streets to Riad Soleil.
Review 56:We needed a place for the night before our departure. We were weary and napped on our arrival after a 5 hour ride from Essaouria. The riad was quiet, tastefully appointed and comfortable. An arranged meal was served to us at our requested late hour. It was gourmet in every aspect. Oliver's limited English did not hamper our communications. Top notch service, great water pressure, plenty of hot water! Air conditioner in the room - a rarity. When we needed a cash machine one of the staff walked us there. Nice to be in a real neighborhood and not a touristed area.
Review 57:the mosquitos from the humidity in the courtyard slight distraction from the ambient surroundings. Building works taking place above with no sound insulation made it hard to have a siesta as was meant to be a time of relaxation. Directions to the RIAD is through a smelly market but found better routes. Not a huge amount to see in the area, booked for too long. Thought all travel a lot more accessible to journey out but we found cabbies who didn't know local streets or were charging far too much to go to the nice beaches. Local beach packed and full of life but dirty.
Review 58:Friendly Owner who was helpful but discrete and when had an issue with noise during one night dealt with straight away and kindly offered us a gift of wine. Rooms were clean, airy and good size. Definitely eat there in the evening as the food was delicious not cheap but worth it. Nice roof garden and games room. Nice to see a non-tourist area and the old port was interesting. Great energy a long the beach front and in the evening family shopping promenade through the medina is vibrant and entertaining to the early hours of the morning.
Review 59:Bed too short. Shower didn't deliver hot water, luke warm only. Tiles in bathroom extremely slippery when wet.
Review 60:Quiet and comfortable. Pleasant surroundings. Beautiful courtyard. Helpful staff. Excellent breakfast and evening meals
Review 61:A beautiful Riad about 10 minutes walk from the Portuguese Gate. Central courtyard full of palm/ orange trees, all rooms look out to the courtyard, Riad furnished to very high standards Breakfast is very good Moroccan style. Owner very attentive to all requirements, sun roof a delight.
Review 62:5 euro for a small bottle of beer seem to be little inadequate
Review 63:incredible oasis of civilization and tranquility inside the dusty and tiring city. Perfect dinner.
Review 64:Owner & staff exceptionally courteous, helpful considerate in all areas. Beautiful Riad: Quiet, well-appointed, charming. Food in-house was excellent.
Review 65:We had an upgraded room on the courtyard - we'd booked theterrace, and only got our original choice on the last night. Nowhereto sit and read/write if too cold/windy outside. Nightmaretrip to airport - driver too slow, made us late, and we missed our bagdrop! Air France came up trumps - not the locals tho, and the airportis a nightmare. We think the Riad owner might have known about thisand allowed us an hour longer.
Review 66:The location in the medina was, as expected. Once inside, you find atreasure of a peaceful courtyard. Very attentive owner and staff, andevg meals are wonderful.
Review 67:Altough the hotel was in the centre and very close cite portugaise ,location was not easy to find at the first arrival
Review 68:Staff was extremly helpfull and very kind Breakfast was very good withall home made jam, crepes and Orange juice ( oranges from the garden)
Review 69:Olivier and his staff could not have been nicer or more accommodating.Excellent, thoughtful, friendly service in a lovely environment.Breakfasts and dinners were wonderful (superb Moroccan wine list).
Review 70:To me the only (minor) negatives are the location, although this has todo more with the city itself than the riad; and the relative"sterility" of the riad. It is not a genuinely old buildingand to my taste some of the room decoration is a bit overboard, butthese are small issues that do not effect the overall positiveexperience. If you are staying in el Jadida, make it here.
Review 71:This is probably the best place to stay in el Jadida. They serve thebest breakfast (easily) we had in Morocco, Olivier is a wonderful hostwho is ready to do anything for your comfort and happiness, the roomsare spotless, the inner courtyard is an absolute gem. They also providea very fast and effective wifi service, which was lacking in many otherplaces we were. The rooms were also great value.
Review 72:The 5% charge for payment with a credit card, not explained clearly whenchecking in, nor was it explained on the booking.com site.
Review 73:This Riad is perfect, everything was excellent. From the decor, toOliver and the welcoming staff, incredible breakfast, cleanliness andthe sunset from the roof top terrace. We cannot say enough good thingsabout our experience here.
Review 74:Moroccan tea was 20Dhs. It's not a lot of money but this wascomplimentary at all other riads we had previously stayed in.
Review 75:The hotel was relatively easy to find and very close to the CityPortuguese. The owner was incredibly generous and upgraded us to the Berber room for the same price on arrival. It was an exquisite room with a very spacious bathroom. The Riad was beautifully designed, with great attention to detail and excellent finishings. There was also a games room with lots of books. We had dinner there and the food was delicious, though a bit more expensive than other riads we had stayed at in Fes and Marrakech.
Review 76:Brilliant service, comfortable, large roof terrace with pet tortoises, spacious rooms
Review 77:Difficult to find, dinner at 22 euro expensive for Morocco
Review 78:Wonderful decoration, enormous rooms, comfortable lounge with open fire
Review 79:Parking far away
Review 80:Friendliness of staff Beatiful breakfast
Review 81:Very friendly staff, stayed in a wonderfull suite with an amazing bathroom. Very charming and highly recommended !
Review 82:Design was a lovely combination of the old Moroccan style put togetherwith more European luxury standards.
Review 83:Location is not user-friendly.
Review 84:Owners very obliging and staff great.
Review 85:The interior courtyard, our fabulous room, the charming and very helpful owner and staff. Incredible food.
Review 86:Nothing!
Review 87:Delightful hosts; beautiful courtyard; delicious food; great roof-top terrace; comfortable room.
Review 88:Everything was great. Really beatiful riad, clean and nice rooms, great dinner and very friendly and helpful stuff.
