Reviews for The Council

Review 1:There was only one small blanket on the bed which was insufficient for two people.

Review 2:Location Staff is very polite and very helpful Breakfast is nice Hotel design is lovely No noise in the evening

Review 3:Everything here is amazing, from the most welcoming and friendly staff to the unique rooms with very plesant views and the splendid location right in the heart of Sibiu. It is the only place we stay in when we come here.

Review 4:Didn't clean our room, didn't refill our water, no coffee in the room, pillows very low quality and duvet was double on a super king bed. Scrambled eggs very dry and overcooked. No high chair for baby.

Review 5:Location. Chef did a excellent soft boiled egg.

Review 6:They cleaned the carpets (or something) in the stairwell one day and it smelled like fish. It was pretty disgusting every time you came back into the building.

Review 7:Neat building with interesting rooms. Great location and nice staff.

Review 8:Small bathroom for big guys ( for same reason described ). A bit complicated to move inside. But this is the price to pay to live in such a picturesque area.

Review 9:Small boutique hotel, very well located in the old district of Sibiu , in the very middle of the historical center. Old building , renovated with good taste and turned into a hotel. Good breakfast. Big rooms although kind of strange in shape due to the fact that the building is old and not designed for a hotel.

Review 10:Loved absolutely everything! Outstanding location, exceptional customer care and service, comfortable spacious room with a view, good breakfast and unbelievable value for money - highly recommend this establishment.

Review 11:The temperature of the hotel was very hot. It is an usually warm November however. It made it a little uncomfortable in the suite we had, as it was so warm, we woke lots throughout the night, even with windows wide open. I wouldnt recommend staying here if you have any mobility issues as you have to climb lots of steps to reception and again to bedrooms.

Review 12:Excellent staff, very efficient and friendly. Went over and above to make our stay a great and well informed experience. Lovely variety of food for breakfast and a great central location in Sibiu. We enjoyed the Christmas Market which was only a stone's throw away.

Review 13:The entrance to the hotel is not immediately obvious and is around the side of the building. Access is via stairs, there is no lift, most rooms are up a minimum of two flights of stairs. The stairs in the duplex rooms are very steep No tea/coffee facilities in the room and no room service to order.

Review 14:The location of the hotel is outstanding - overlooking one of the main squares but seemingly not too noisy. Restaurants, museums and shops are right on the doorstep. The rooms are clean, bright and well maintained

Review 15:No hot water for bath/shower in the evening

Review 16:Second visit to this hotel and the result was as good as the first. Quaint rooms, but comfortable. Breakfast delicious.

Review 17:The hotel is non-smoking in general. But we couldn't sleep because we had an allergic reaction to the pillows which smelled like cigarettes. We can't really blame the hotel since this IS part of the culture. It's extremely hard to get a 100% smoke-free room anywhere else.

Review 18:Service is excellence... Esp in Romania... The staff exceeded expectations in customer service (at least they smile).

Review 19:Location couldn't be better, right in a center. Many restaurants around. Hotel, rooms are just like on pictures . No elevator, you have to go up to second floor to get to reception and up again to your room. All rooms are on a third floor. No safe, no phone in a room. Only one tiny shelf In a bathroom, not even a hook to hang your clothes.

Review 20:There is no possibility to hang the showerhead on the wall. We duchies like to shower standing.

Review 21:The location is perfect. Right in the heart of Sibiu. And next to a square that allows parking. The room was really spacious and looked out of the bridge of lies. So that was cool. The breakfast was perfect. Good selection. Really delicious pastries, and even an on the spot made omelette.

Review 22:It was a bit hard to find because the sign is not very visible from out in the square. A note should be made online about where it is - around the left corner of a restaurant, with the entrance being close to Cafe Amy.

Review 23:Beautiful accommodation in a great location on Piata Mica! The staff was friendly and the breakfast very nice!

Review 24:Not easy to find. Four flights of stairs difficult with suitcases. Bathroom drains smelt - reported this and told nothing can be done. Stair rails felt sticky and dirty. Overnight parking 41 Ron (approx. 9 euros).

Review 25:The situation is good. Staff kind and helpful.

Review 26:No roomservice at 1am when we arrived, and nothing else open around hotel.TV in 111 is faulty, and bathroom smells of sewer.

Review 27:Good Location, friendly staff.

Review 28:Thought by the pictures it would be more charming our room wasn't. Also many steps not convenient Over priced. Right on the Square. Very noisy and many chiming bells all night

Review 29:Good location good breakfast

Review 30:Our room was in the third floor, A little bit hard for people 82 years old, like us, The WI-FI was not strong enough in our floor. We could not use our computer.

Review 31:The location is excellent.

Review 32:The place is not clean.carpets are dusty and not clean The shower is not working.the matress is terribly soft place is not worth the price

Review 33:The location

Review 34:not having a lift with a full family with many suitcases was not a great welcome. The bed was not comfortable but it was clean. Not sure how the 4 stars were given...

Review 35:The staff was very nice and helpful

Review 36:This is definitely not a four star hotel. It lacks charm! The rooms and common spaces are dubiously decorated. The reception is in the first floor, together with the breakfast room, and the duplex bedrooms are in second floor. However, there is not a lift. When we arrived no one offered to help with the luggage. We had to carry it ourselves. The breakfast is rather basic. Most of the time during breakfast there was only one person for both the breakfast management and the reception service. Since breakfast time coincides with check-out time, sometimes we had to wait long to have just some more juice, coffee or bread, or simply to have a clean table. It is a pity. A more professional management and this place may become the best in town.

Review 37:The location is the best you can get, right in the middle of the action. Despite it, our room was very quiet, a kind of a small duplex apartment located in the attic, indeed very big for a room. The bed was upstairs while the entry, the living room and the bathroom were downstairs

Review 38:The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The rooms are amazing and very luxurious. The location is perfect. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and everyone.

Review 39:Perfect situation between the main squares for exploring the town. Staff welcoming and so helpful Spacious elegant rooms in a 14th century building

Review 40:Wifi was the worst I had in 6 cities in Romania (it works, bits and pieces, cuts); breakfast starts at 8am (???!!!! Tourists have planes, tours, trains...); terribly noisy (because of the location, square full of summer activities up to 23h, no siesta possible hehehe, ok for 15 year olds I suppose)

Review 41:Pleasant staff, very central location

Review 42:Absolutely nothing I can think of

Review 43:This must be one of the best stays ever. Everything here was excellent, the room (OMG), the personnel (very friendly), the location.

Review 44:Noisy air conditioner, not enough space to put two suitcases.

Review 45:Old character building right in the middle of the old town with paid parking available. Good comfortable room.

Review 46:The accomodation is rather modest. Parking is public, crowded at peak hours (we had to wait 25 minutes at the barrier for a spot to be vacanted), expensive, and the machine accepts only smaller bills (to pay for the 19 hours overnight stay, 38 lei, we had to change at nearby shop).

Review 47:Location in the central old town.

Review 48:It is not the hotel for you if you have mobility problems as you have to navigate stairs just to get to reception. Then more stairs to the bedrooms.

Review 49:The Location is superb, you are right by the square in Sibiu. I had gone for an upgraded room which mean it had a sofa and small dining area. This is a hotel full of character. Although it was in the square you didn't hear any noise.

Review 50:I have chosen this hotel because it was recommended by my son and due to it's location in the center of the town. The hotel is located in an old building (14th century told us the lady from the reception) but inside you have all the confort+the originality of the rooms. The breakfast was very good and varied. You have a parking just in front of the hotel but the price is a little high. I recommend this hotel.

Review 51:It was a little difficult to find and our taxi driver had never heard of it.

Review 52:Once we found it, the Council was perfect. It's located on a really charming square with lots of restaurants and atmosphere. The view onto the square from the breakfast room was just lovely. The rooms were clean and the staff was friendly. Just be aware that there is no elevator on site and the reception desk is up one floor from the ground and the rooms are above that.

Review 53:We arrived after 4 PM, but the room wasn't "ready". Literally the room was under construction, with a very strong smell of fresh paint. No air condition, no hairdryer, no minibar, not enough towels, no garbage bin, no glasses, main door staying closed only when locked. My wife had to ask twice for the right WiFi password. I complained this is not what we reserved. Next morning, the lady receptionist gave me a 10 euro reduction and for good measure told me that "it is true what they say about Romanians. They are rude". I said nothing and rushed down the stairs. There was no lift.

Review 54:Great location and staff except the lady receptionist the day we left.

Review 55:The plumbing needs some bends to keep down the smells in the bathroom.

Review 56:Super location, super staff. This was our luxury choice of the trip, and we weren't disappointed.

Review 57:no high chair for breakfast, but it was broken, so hopefully replaced.

Review 58:The rooms are very spacious and there was a comfortable babycot available for our little one. It is in the middle of the town and next to a supermarket for some wine and snacks for the evening.

Review 59:Room 106 – very uncomfortable bathroom, impossible to take a shower + some drain problems.

Review 60:Classy hotel in a middle of Sibiu old town, rooms are furniture in an antique way and that gives perfect atmosphere of the place.

Review 61:Staff was great! Helpful and always greeting with a smile. Beautiful cozy location, I would come back anytime for a perfect breakfast with an amazing view to Little Square!

Review 62:The bathroom lacks of shelves where to put your bathroom stuff. For the breakfast, you can order from the kitchen only eggs. Internet could not be accessed, even that the router was on the hallway. No parking provided by the hotel. You have to look around for street parking.

Review 63:Room was very spacious, view from the window excellent.

Review 64:The room is soo big and nice. People is so nice, and they spoke to me in my native language (SPANISH) Location is perfect. It is impossible to be more in the center.

Review 65:There is a significant problem with the drains, as other reviews have noted. This really needs to be sorted, not just masked with chemicals. Although staff tried hard, there was at times a lack of organisation.

Review 66:The location in one of Sibiu's main squares is excellent. Restaurants and cafes a few steps away. Hotel inside historic building, and our room had interesting beams and original windows overlooking the square. Staff tried hard to please.

Review 67:The pillows to too soft to provide support and the bedding felt cheap. There were no bins in the apartment apart from a tiny one in the bathroom. The rooms were very hot despite the heating being turned off. There was no room service available and the mini bar had very little stock in it. The Wi-Fi connection was quite poor.

Review 68:The size and décor of the apartment.

Review 69:Nothing

Review 70:The staff were very friendly, incredibly helpful when we left a flight bag in a taxi, recommended a really good restaurant and all in all were a great advert for the hotel

Review 71:Great looking bathroom but with some smell from drains( seems a general problem not just this hotel) and poor shower fitting.

Review 72:Our room was really great - plenty space, 2 sofas. Large windows facing inner courtyard, quiet at night. Sole breakfast in room overlooking the piatta mica. Staff very keen and polite.

Review 73:internet power is very weak; wireless is a nightmare; even wired internet works only from time to time.

Review 74:Location, surroundings, cleanliness, "professional and kind/ready to help" staff ...

Review 75:For 500 Lei per night, I expected a MUCH better breakfast. Hard to get to (because of poor city planning, not the fault of the hotel). Again, for 500 Lei per night, I wouldn't expect to pay for in-room coffee. Even the Continental doesn't charge for such things in their suites.

Review 76:Exceptional staff, well furnished, fairly centrally located.

Review 77:We booked an apartment for 4 (2 couples) but was more suited for a family of 4 or less. A bit hard to climb to the bedrooms (they are located higher in the apartment) if you have some medical problems. Very small shower. While the apartment has a big surface is not really useful if you are over 1,5 m tall

Review 78:Great location with great view, very nice and helpful staff.

Review 79:location, the personnel extremely kind ,helpful and polite. Each room is different decorated and with different shape. The hotel is in the center of Sibiu,in Small Market.Excellent location for exploring the wonderful city.

Review 80:I did not like that all the restaurants we visited allowed customers to smoke inside. Some of these restaurants had no place for non-smokers.

Review 81:We liked the location between the two central squares of Sibiu. I cannot think of a better location to visit everything central. The stuff was professional and the room was clean, quiet and spacious.

Review 82:Breakfast was not so great. The coffee was seriously bad!

Review 83:Great little hotel & most amazing location. There aren't too many hotels to choose from in Sibiu, Romania. This is probably one of the best hotels available.

Review 84:Credits to Florina and one more staff with the nice curly hair. We'd been given many great pieces of advice for the whole trip in Romania which makes us less time consuming to look up for planning the trip!

Review 85:smelly bathroom (although I understand why this happens and accept the explanation); "living room" has no TV and only 1 couch/ 2 pers. - makes it therefore rather useless as far as the maisonette is ment for four guests; no coat stand in the "living room" or at the entrance to the maisonette - nowhere to hang winter coates; a kettle would be useful; at least one room could have 2 single beds instead of the double

Review 86:Position is excellent but also quiet - all you can hear is a subtle ring of the tower bell; staff is VERY nice; the maisonette is spacious and suited for 4 guests (if family); very clean, nice sheets, good towels; good minibar, good heating; nice views from all the windows; breakfast ok and you can have it until 11 if you are a late sleeper; power outlets everywhere, post more pictures in the presentation!!!

Review 87:Bathroom smelt like sewage (room 106). Poor breakfast buffet selection. Mini bar was not refilled after using some products.

Review 88:Great location. Staff were ok and attentive.

Review 89:A little rough round the edges in places. Our room had a great big heating pipe sticking out the window, for example, showed leaked very badly. Room was a bit poky - certainly nowhere near as nice as the ones shown on the profile here.

Review 90:nice hotel, nice staff, ideal location

Review 91:Hard to find when driving, as is usually the case in medieval towns

Review 92:Great location in Piata Mica, nice room and view, available public parking. Good breakfast

Review 93:Great location, nice furnished rooms, very clean. Staff was very friendly and always available to help. Regarding staff I would also like to mention that Florin was very helpful(despite some comments that I have read).

Review 94:For the first time the pictures and the information from the site turned out to be what we got in reality! We were absolutely in love with our svit with the bedroom upstairs. Fantastic! Very good atmosphere and staff and the location was superb.

Review 95:breakfast is rather poor, bathroom very small. drainage from the shower was not good.

Review 96:the size of the suite is huge. good size beds, nice views from the room, helpful staff. Location is perfect and parking overnight is cheap.

Review 97:Coffee pretty poor and nespresso being charged for Parking in the square in almost 35 euro for 2 days. No advice from hotel on alternate parking

Review 98:Fabulos location Interesting rooms

Review 99:The location is perfect for visiting Sibiu, right in the heart of the Historical Centre. The building is an old one (it used to serve as a public institution) and has been fully renovated and refurbished, looks absolutely stunning, you just can’t help falling in love with it. Rooms are specious (some of the largest you will find in Romania), everything is classy and high quality. Breakfast is very good and services (staff) are of exceptional quality. This is definitely the only place for us in Sibiu. We highly recommend it.

Review 100:Booked a two bedroom suite, which was advertised with beautiful furnature and a seating area. We got two connecting rooms with basic furnature. Customer service very poor; they were interested in my money not in solving my concerns.

Review 101:Location

Review 102:The facility is more like an upscale hostel than a hotel. The room was small (think of NYC small) and the bed was awful - squeaky springs, soft mattress with zero support. The photo of the suite in the promo materials is nothing like a standard room.

Review 103:The hotel manager/staff were outstanding - helpful, warm, inviting - best experience in Romania. Also, the location can't be beat. The AC in the room was great too.

Review 104:Most rooms are duplex type. If you are not willing to use stairs to go to your bathroom search another place.

Review 105:The location, the view and the staff its great!

Review 106:The air conditioning unit was insufficient for the enormous loft room with two seating areas as well as the bed.

Review 107:It has a fantastic location looking over one of the squares and central for sight-seeing. It has a very luxurious feel about it and the staff make you recognise you as an individual. Lovely breakfast rooms, art works, plants and flowers. Felt like lving in someone's own home.

Review 108:1. Our large apartment had two bedrooms, one with air conditioning and one without. Why? 2. In each of the bedrooms one window doesn't have blinds, the others have. What strange explanation can be? 3. The shower has two terminals: one fixed on top of the head (American style), one with hose. Only one of them is functional, the American style one.

Review 109:Location, size of the room (the deluxe apartment), location, breakfast, location, location.

Review 110:the only slight thing we could comment on is the car parking. We were told in advance by booking.com that it would be 10euros a day and we both felt that some of this should be borne by the hotel,as there is absolutely nowhere else to park-just an idea.

Review 111:we both thought the staff couldn't do enough for us and very well looked after. The suite was huge and we overlooked the square so very interesting.Plenty to look at in Sibiu so all in all had a great time.

Review 112:1. The reception staff, Florian, really had an attitude problem and a very unwelcoming behavior. 2. We needed WiFi urgently, but it was not working at all and despite our request at 20:00pm, Florian didn't restart the WiFi routers until 23:00pm at night, and only then we could access internet. 3. The hotel breakfast staff did not know what's a cappuccino. 4. We decided to stay another night in the beautiful town Sibiu, but not in this hotel, so moved to another hotel. 5. Soon after check-out, I received a No-Show notification email from hotel via booking.com, with charges to be deducted from my credit card. I went back to the hotel at 11am, only to hear "I don't know" from the day shift reception girl to every question of mine. I asked for the Manager who, I was told, was in a meeting and when I insisted to wait, then the Manager was suddenly on a beach far away and could only be met at 7pm. I left and came back only to find no one. I visited again after 8pm only to hear another lie from the reception girl that they had been waiting at 7pm. Thankfully, I still had the hotel invoice and cash payment receipt, which I forwarded to booking.com who took care of the issue.

Review 113:centrally located

Review 114:Nothing bad to review.

Review 115:Despite some negative reviews, we trusted our feelings and went ahead. We were right, everything was very good. The room has a working A/C device, furniture in very good condition and aligned to the building age. Parking in the Little Square easy and very simple to pay (yet not very cheap). No bad smells in the room. Friendly personnel, good breakfast. No street noise during the night to disturb us.

Review 116:We still wonder how this place got 4 stars. There's no elevator, no airco. The room was very hot. To get at least some air the window needed to stay open all night. It was ver noisy outside. We hardly slept at all. Breakfast was very poor, coffee undrinkable, very tiny tables. Hot water for tea had to be specially ordered. You could also order an omelette. We wanted one with mushrooms. They didn't have any. When checking out, the man at the desk (who also supervised breakfast) asked us if everything had been okay. We told him that we were not pleased mainly because we did'nt sleep well because of he heat. And you know what? That very dag they would start installing airco. They finally got permission from the authoraties to do so after having waited forever. I recalled the comment of a former visitor I read. He complainted about the bedcover that was much too small. He was told that larger ones already had been ordered. I guess that they are still waiting for permission from the authoraties to put them on the beds. Our bedcover was no wider than the the bed. Had we needed it, we would have been cold. Oh yes, don't expect your room to look anything like the picture. The people who rated this hotel 10 must be living in a shed.

Review 117:The location is good, I'm theory. In practice, it is incredibly noisy. The hotel is not a 4 star hotel. Thee was no AC and it was very warm, no lift, the breakfast was very poor, very limitted selection.

Review 118:The shower! The hose was not attached to the pole, so you had to hold it while washing, which was awkward. The shower also leaked onto the floor. Note that there is no air conditioning, but they did provide a fan, which was essential. There are also a few flights of stairs to get to the reception desk and then to the room.

Review 119:Good breakfast, excellent location near Piata Mare and on Piata Mica. Interesting room decoration.

Review 120:No coffee/tea facilities in room. WiFi too weak in room to be of any use. Breakfast very limited.

Review 121:Location could not be better. Nestled next to the clock tower between Sibiu's two main squares. Lovely room on two levels... perfect for a family.

Review 122:Our family room - with two connecting rooms - was a strange layout. Rather sparsely furnished: there were only 3 chairs in both rooms, no other place to sit besides the beds.

Review 123:Fantastic location right at the bottom of the Council tower. Spacious rooms, nice beds and pillows. Very friendly, helpful and courteous staff. Beautiful breakfast room with fantastic views over the main square. Right under the hotel is the Crama Sibiana restaurant with a very nice selection of traditional Romanian food. Would recommend to anyone visiting Sibiu.

Review 124:no AC bathroom not very functional - more counter space/shelves/hooks would help (had to keep clothes and cosmetics on the floor)

Review 125:Very conveniently located, lots of bars/restaurants around, also close to Bruckethal Museum and other tourist attractions. Staff was helpful and nice.

Review 126:Location ideal and the staff were extremely helpful and pleasant. Room most comfortable and breakfast, whilst not the best, was quite adequate.

Review 127:At breakfast , not enough non-smoking space and smokers Room too close to non .

Review 128:Location , staff , rooms

Review 129:nothing to say here

Review 130:the location and the staff

Review 131:Everything

Review 132:Noisy wooden floors. You can hear anyone walking around from anywhere on the same floor, or stairs.

The Fine Print

Please not that there is no elevator in the building.
