Reviews for Monmouth Historic Inn

Review 1:Some African American staff seemed to be too sub-serviant ... Made us feel a bit uncomfortable. Also the receptionist forgot to make our reservation for dinner and the house tour was very "mechanical".

Review 2:Gardens, room and the most of the staff were excellent.

Review 3:Wonderful stay! Staff fulfilled our every request with a smile. Beautiful property. A must stay if you are near Natchez. Don't miss the restaurant. Lovely setting and the food was sensational!

Review 4:The garden rooms are very dark. Tea and coffee are not available in the rooms or in the bar. Hotel staff did not offer to help with suitcases even though the room was up several steps. (We are both in our 70s)

Review 5:Mansion house is a well maintained historic building. The restaurant food was tasty and well presented.

Review 6:Was disappointed that we had to find dinner arrangements elsewhere due to one group having the dining room to themselves. We were told we could eat w/ the group, but obviously this was not agreeable to us.

Review 7:The room and grounds were just beautiful. Also enjoyed the porch outside of our room.

Review 8:Many of the lights weren't on to walk at night. The room was smelly The tour was too late many people have to get up and go.

Review 9:Setting, history, property, food

Review 10:Asked to have restaurant reservation changed from 7:30 to 6:30 and was told no couldn't do it. No,Totally hooked. On our way out saw more than half the tables empty.

Review 11:We had an inexpensive room which was a bit dark but adequate for 2 nights.

Review 12:The Monmouth is an impressive plantation house with some lovely grounds. We ate at the Restaurant, 1818, on both evenings and the food was excellent.

Review 13:We wish they offered a light lunch. We would not have left the property at all if they served food and drinks through the day.

Review 14:We loved the location, the grounds, and the rooms. It is a great place for a romantic getaway like ours. We loved being surrounded by all the loveliness and peace.

Review 15:The staff were wonderful. Breakfast prepared my Ms Mary was a real treat. She has her own special recipes that won't be found elsewhere. Dinner at the restaurant, 1818 is not to be missed. Dinner was served in the dining room of Monmouth. It was truly elegant. And the dinner was awesome. Before dinner drinks and appetizer with. Roosevelt, the bartender is not to be missed. We enjoyed his stories as well as the drinks. He is famous for his Mint Julips, for mint Julio fans. The property itself is amazing fr the house to the grounds. This is a wonderful destination for a couple's retreat!

Review 16:The dinner in the library consisted of a chicken leg, a wing and a very small portion of potato salad presented on an old piece of lettuce. For $12, I expected more. The ceiling over the landing leading up the stairs in the main house needs repair as the plaster is cracked and is in disrepair. Distracts from the otherwise loveliness of the building.

Review 17:The grounds are beautiful and well manicured The staff were helpful and very friendly..

Review 18:Sunday night the main dining room was not open. One guy running the bar, informal restaurant orders and collecting the meals from the kitchen - a bit stretched.

Review 19:A wonderful property. Breakfast seriously indulgent. The included tour of the house was great.

Review 20:Being in one of the original buildings, my room was understandably a little cranky. Only seemed to have one power socket working. The lovely wallpaper was peeling in the bathroom from the steam. Some of the fitments need upgrading. Not bad at all if consider the age of the property so not a criticism just an observation.

Review 21:On business trip so exceedingly nice to stay the Saturday night somewhere so historic rather than the usual hotel chains. A good dinner. Interesting talk/tour next day. Idiosyncratic staff which added to the fun. Well worth it.

Review 22:Could have used a small refrigerator in the room since I had traveled from quite a distance and wanted to keep some items cold.

Review 23:The Monmouth Inn is a wonderful way to treat yourself. The room was quite spacious and beautifully decorated. All the facilities worked well and were in perfect order. The bed was a little squeaky but very comfortable. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The food was excellent, especially Miss Mary's wonderful grits for breakfast. The Thanksgiving meal was memorable. The setting was unsurpassed and serene so I felt very relaxed after my stay.

Review 24:The lumpy bed.

Review 25:I absolutely loved Hal. He was worth the whole trip. Gave us good advice and really helped out when my husband developed a health issue.

Review 26:Originally bookedf 9 months ago, expected a room in the house. But was booked into a suite . When biscuites were served at 5.30pm only insight tour people were offered a drink (water) we had to pay & order a drink in bar.Restaurant was booked out mainly by insight tour people. It seeems they were looked after better than the rest even thoutgh we paid probably more than them per night.

Review 27:Excellant location, historical, tour of house was excellent

Review 28:The setting is beautiful and the staff were friendly.

Review 29:If not in main building you can be up to 100 yards away on rough track, not good if infirm or weather bad. Attention to detail lacking - number of small items needed easy or cheap repair (eg light bulbs) - didn't fit luxury image. Restaurant effectively closed both nights.

Review 30:Breakfast good, nice grounds, beautiful cat, informative tour, peaceful location.

Review 31:There wasn't anything unfavourable about our overnight stay.

Review 32:We thoroughly enjoyed our overnight stay at Monmouth Inn. The service was excellent and although the restaurant wasn't open, we were able to have a light meal in the lounge. Beforehand, we had enjoyed a glass of wine in the beautiful old room, that was tastefully furnished with antiques. While there, we met a lovely couple who we enjoyed chatting to. The Southerners are so friendly and know how to show hospitality to weary travellers.

Review 33:some signage in the garden to help find our way to where breakfast was being served would be helpful

Review 34:Staff were very friendly and accommodating. house and gardens beautiful. we took the tour, very impressive, learned a lot.facinating.

Review 35:The evening meal was a little disappointing. Was of average standard for money. Better value eating in Natchez town.

Review 36:House tour exceptional. Gandy, our guide very interesting, knowledgeable and friendly! Accommodation lovely in beautiful setting with excellent staff.

Review 37:A lovely main house in great surroundings. Very well looked after by friendly and effiecient staff

Review 38:no fridge in our room. stay was a little pricey.

Review 39:staff is amazing. grounds are beautiful. very relaxing atmosphere.

Review 40:restaurant was booked...couldn't eat there

Review 41:The grounds and the staff were so accommodating and kind. The food was exceptional.

Review 42:Nothing!

Review 43:Perfect location, exuberant property and top notch b&b service. Highly recommended!

Review 44:Shower and slow Internet

Review 45:Location and Restaurant

Review 46:Staff extremely friendly. Good restaurant on premises

Review 47:Southern hospitality and local character

Review 48:Restaurant not available

Review 49:Beautiful grounds. Wonderful experience

Review 50:Beautiful location. Great for a romantic get away. The owner was greats!!

Review 51:Nothing

Review 52:Lupe was great in the breakfast area....she was just fabulous The bellman were totally awesome

Review 53:Very slow service in the restaurant.

Review 54:The location - the grounds were fantastic. The staff were superb.

Review 55:Love the room and all the comforts that made us want to stay again when visiting Natchez.

Review 56:No refrigerator.

Review 57:The gardens

Review 58:Would just suggest tea /coffee making facilities in room

Review 59:Friendly staff, luxurious feel, wonderful setting

Review 60:House and grounds are nice and well kept. Staff was nice and helpful

Review 61:The tavern menu and food could be improved.

Review 62:The courtyard dining venue was very pleasant.

Review 63:Dinner is special

Review 64:Walking the grounds

Review 65:We went with children and there was no option forums to accommodate them.

Review 66:Lovely!

Review 67:Small bed, and toilet could use an update

Review 68:Beautiful setting, great tour of the house (Gandi is amazing!), wonderful staff... free wifi and parking are icing on the cake!

Review 69:The bed was not best suited for a couple. It caved into the centre making it very uncomnfortable. The dinner meal service in the house was not very good. Our food came out of sequence and was a bit over priced.

Review 70:The gardens and surrounding setting are very nice. You get a feel for what is was like historically to stay there. Rooms were clean and well set out.

Review 71:It was very nice, but I expected it to be nicer based on the high cost of the room. Our room was fine, but not quite as lovely as I thought it would be. We hand-carried our own luggage up a flight of stairs to a room above the check-in area right by the parking area, just not as lovely as I thought it would be.

Review 72:Learning about the history of the house, happy hour w/ Roosevelt at the bar, grounds around the house, breakfast

Review 73:The bed had a large depression in it making sleep difficult. Breakfast needed more servers, service was painfully slow

Review 74:This hotel is beautiful, the setting is very old south. Gorgeous landscaping and gracious service

Review 75:Hotel was difficult to find at night.

Review 76:Excellent, friendly staff, lovely rooms - the garden rooms with a porch & rocking chairs recommended. The house tour is worth doing & free to guests.

Review 77:Bit expensive for my budget, but you get what you pay for at Monmouth!

Review 78:The staff was excellent! They were extremely friendly & helpful. The food in the dining room was fabulous. The breakfast was exceptional. The decor was luxurious.

Review 79:It's not as polished as it should be. For example: bar was out of cocktail napkins , tour guide provided inaccurate information and used incorrect grammar several times during the tour, front desk couldn't find our updated Booking.com reservation. New Orleans owners should be more hands on.

Review 80:The beauty of Monmouth. We were there in the winter; I can only imagine what spring is like. The staff was very friendly and accommodating.

Review 81:Staff were extremely friendly and went out of their way to assist us. The food was excellent and the free tour of the home very interesting. The home and grounds were beautiful.

Review 82:Leaving!

Review 83:The main house & cottages, the grounds, the resturant & bar, the friendly knowledgable staff. The food was excellent on the evenings we ate in with a peaceful relaxing atmosphere throughout.

Review 84:Major problem was the lack of safety bars in the bathtub. One handicapunit and one wheelchair hardly qualifies this facility as handicap accessible-this should be noted in brochures due to integrity of the site

Review 85:Peaceful and relaxing

Review 86:It would have been nice to have a coffee maker/hot water kettle in the room. We had to go to the bar for that, and it would have been more convenient to be able to make a few cups in the room.

Review 87:Our suite was very nicely decorated, with every convenience. We also really enjoyed having a private patio. It was perfect for private meals, or just enjoying some quality time.

Review 88:I would suggest a grab bar for the deep tub in Room 30.

Review 89:Beautiful property - very historic but with every comfort. Wonderful breakfast in a pretty setting. Excellent welcoming staff. Everyone devoted to guest's perfect stay. Close to downtown but in secluded setting.

Review 90:Expensive!

Review 91:It has beautiful grounds and excellent food. Since it is a antebellem inn it is not at all like staying in a normal hotel. Very wonderful court yard to sit and relax.

Review 92:Crystal at breakfast - very surly and looked as if we were an intrusionon her day. Hard to find. Sent along Melrose which , in fact, takes youaway from the hotel. Perhaps the instructions should tell you. At check-in and on tour, a nurse's uniform is not professional for a hotel ofthis class. Umbrellas should be readily available when raining heavilyto reach breakfast.

Review 93:The grounds and the house

Review 94:The history of the home, the furnishings, the meals, and the grounds were all impressive. The owner happened to be there and was delightful and open to sharing her knowledge about Monmouth.

Review 95:everything was perfect from the gorgeous antebellum mansion to the period decorations to the superb staff who attended our every need! Roosevelt the bartender made the world's best mint julep and the bellman was excellent. The food at 1818 restaurant was awesome and service with our waiter Josh was unrivaled in all the world.

Review 96:In booking on line to get the impression that you would be staying in the Big house.Little disappointed at first, but after staying in cottage by the pond We found it to be wonderful.Sherry the young lady that did the tour, we found he very well informed on the history of the home. Would come again.

Review 97:Every thing?

Review 98:The checkout area is at the entrance to the gift shop so it got very crowded with people trying to check out at the same time as people shopping. Plus, if you had a question on the bill, everyone was right there to hear all of the details. I recommend checking out before the rush at 11:00 am.

Review 99:Monmouth is absolutely breathtaking! The breakfast offered both hot & cold options and was delicious. The home, grounds, ponds were all immaculate and they had gravel walking trails throughout the entire property. It's great for couples and friend getaways.

Review 100:The room were perfect! The food was the best loved the gardens! The towns had more than enough to do! If someone loves history, good food and lots to do this is the place for them!

Review 101:The bed was lumpy.

Review 102:Everything was great, it was our honeymoon retreat . We Will book it again for our 1year anniversary. I want to be on email list but not monthly, more like by-annually or quarterly.

Review 103:We (and another couple who stayed next door) stayed in the Camellia Cottage Room 32. Easy access. King bed which was huge! Great view of the grounds. Hal greeted us and was full of great information about the hotel and activities! The complimentary hors d'oeuvres were delicious! (Louisiana meat pies!) The complimentary breakfast was top notch (you need to hope they are serving their signature French Toast). The quaint bar was awesome and a better Mint Julep you will not find anywhere (made with love and 29 years of experience by Roosevelt). Kristy gave a lovely tour of the home at 10am. Could not have asked for a better stay (except for the weather!).

Review 104:Very nice location, a great place to relax and a nice base to venture out and explore all the historic houses in Natchez.

Review 105:All the area around, wonderful walking.

Review 106:Breakfast in the garden dining room was special!

Review 107:Given the location, i thought it was quite expensive.

Review 108:Lots of character, friendly staff, great atmosphere

Review 109:nothing

Review 110:best b& b we have stayed

Review 111:traditional antebellum mansion with stunny gardens

Review 112:Breakfast is only average; porch rockers are uncomfortable on our backs

Review 113:Classic ambiance; staff; history; grounds

Review 114:The smokers sitting on the porch in front of our room.

Review 115:The Quitman Lounge and the Mint Juleps

Review 116:Beautiful setting. Great staff.

Review 117:Hospitality Beautiful grounds Lovely room Gorgeous food

Review 118:Historic yet with modern conveniences..quiet,relaxing,great breakfast, nice informational tour of the antebellum home.

Review 119:A little remote from downtown Natchez.

Review 120:A beautiful setting and great dinner.
