Reviews for Whitehall Mansion
Review 1:Ceiling shows signs of aging and disrepair, and thin walls would be problematic in a busier season. Also, while main room advertises 5:30 wine & cheese for Whitehall guests, you have to call in otherwise they won't bring it (and, even then, they only brought the cheese sans wine).
Review 2:Loved the age and history of the place while still having modern amenities by sharing facilities with Residence Inn. Staff was super helpful and place had great location. Definitely a nice place to unwind, especially with the in room fireplace and whirlpool tub.
Review 3:It wasn't that clean , we didn't get the cheese and fruit in the morning and night like we were told! Things were broken and it seems to be on nice grounds in photos, all to find out its in the center of a parking lot
Review 4:The feeling of being in a different time!
Review 5:If I wanted to use the pool or hot tub I would have to walk outside in very cold temperatures. I thought the mansion was cool was offered a log for the fireplace that never showed up.
Review 6:I liked the location different type of room than what I usually stay in but I did enjoy the experience.
Review 7:Pictures of out side deceiving. On a very busy road. Poor bed. Breakfast late and consisted of bananas and some bread. Terrible coffee. We went to the residence in on the property for breakfast. Wouldn't recommend
Review 8:Quaint room. Fireplace in room functional. Good shower
Review 9:Since you are in an older building, there is not a lot of sound proofing, so we could hear the other guests next to us coming/going. But that was a minor issue, and certainly not worth complaining about.
Review 10:The Whitehall Inn was wonderful. It has old-world charm, with modern amenities. And, it is attached to a Residence Inn, so you get the staff from that hotel helping out - they were amazing, and remarkably helpful. The room includes a working fireplace, jacuzzi tub, and they gave us a bottle of wine when we arrived. It was a great weekend getaway.
Review 11:Stayed at Whitehall Mansion in Connecticut where I fell on a high 6"step leading into common room because the floor boards- wooden - were identical on the step and the floor, the lighting was muted and there was no sign of any kind warning of the obvious danger. I have two replaced hips and after 2 weeks, they still hurt.
Review 12:Staff was very nice as was breakfast. Would stay at a regularMarriott.
Review 13:I didn't expect it to be right off the interstate. It is a bit strange that it is located in the center of a Residence Inn parking lot; you have to check in there since there is no desk/staff at the inn. The staff at their front desk was not very friendly, but we did get a complimentary bottle of wine.
Review 14:I loved the look and feel of staying in a historic (haunted) inn. The jacuzzi tub was awesome! We had Betsy's Chamber, which was the room I really wanted. I'm glad they have coffee in the main room so I didn't have to go all the way across the parking lot.
Review 15:When we arrived we were unable to enter as all doors were locked. Called the B&B phone # and the hotel answered. We had to go there to obtain key. There was no assistance with luggage and a cart would not have helped because only stairs to our entrance. Floors uneven, room cold. Called hotel during night to ask where thermostat was hidden! Tub so dirty looking did not use.Overall just not what we expected at all! Wanted to avoid hotels but couldn't staying here! Breakfast was crazy busy and loud, TV blaring!
Review 16:Seeing the inside of such an historical home.
Review 17:I love old houses, live in an 1895 Queen Ann Victorian, but old doesn't have to mean dirty. Needs heavy improvement on housekeeping. Also needs some maintenance work done.
Review 18:Good location & good breakfast at the Residence Inn.
Review 19:Chairs in the room filthy, had to use a towel to sit on them. Only one small night stand, would have been nice to have another small table near the window on the other side of the bed.
Review 20:The fire place, historical feel of the room. Room was clean.
Review 21:The breakfast. Here is the bad stuff: I got food poisoning from the dirty bathroom glasses. Smoky smell in the room due to dirty fireplace. No extra pillows. No blanket until we called. No clean glasses after the first night.Broken front door. Premium price for inferior hospitality. I will never send a recmmendation in your favor.
Review 22:See what I typed above in like section.
Review 23:The staff at Residence Inn were very helpful and customer oriented and that helped to mitigate the unfortunate situation on a hot summer night that there was no AC in our room. We ordered a fan and could open one of the room's windows because of the historical nature of the building. There wasn't enough of a cross breeze to cool down the room until the next morning. We did not sleep much at all. Because we opened one window, we were subjected to to the street noise too. Again, check in and check out process was easy and staff was very sympathetic.
Review 24:The mattress sagged in the middle, we had sore backs the next morning. The bathroom curtains are in shreds and dusty. No toothbrushes available in the supply pantry in the main lobby.
Review 25:location, breakfast, interesting room(Betsy), quiet, cool
Review 26:Convenient drive to the Seaport and downtown Mystic. Great breakfast!!!! Complimentary bottle of wine on arrival!!! Very comfortable and clean rooms.
Review 27:When reading the advertisement you are not aware that it is actually an extension of a much larger and more modern facility so when we arrived we walked into the mansion fully expecting a check-in area and welcome. We wanderEd around and finally the cleaning crew pointed us to the main building across the grounds. Not a very welcoming experience.
Review 28:Not a lot of room in the dining area and notice selection either.
Review 29:The complimentary bottle of wine was wonderful. The discounted tickets to mystic attractions with the upgrades.
Review 30:Check in agent stated that there was a log in fireplace, but there was not. Dusty bathroom fan. Very cool air in bathroom, couldn't find any way to turn it off. Chipping plaster on tub surround/floor. Minimal issues.
Review 31:The canopy bed was beautiful, as was the ambiance of the entire room. Not only was there an impressive continental breakfast next door, but they also had an evening meal, as well as treats at the mansion!
Review 32:Room very hot as they didn't have AC in until arrival and since old house in a parking lot it didn't get cool until morning. The stairs up are narrow and steep and no elevator. Not really an inn but part of Resident? Inn so Miss represented. It is just a motel situation off of 95 and no atmosphere ... Impossibly hot for summer.
Review 33:The room was a little warm no matter howcold you set the temp. But... it is an old building, remodeled.
Review 34:Really close to shops, aquarium, museums, and downtown Mystic.
Review 35:no dislikes at all
Review 36:We were the only couple there, the privacy was great as was the complimentary bottle of wine. The room was beautiful, wide pine floors, canopy bed and fireplace for a perfect romantic evenings.
Review 37:Wasn't aware you have to check in at the Marriott Residence lobby. Bed was too soft.
Review 38:Very colonial and quaint room. Would have used the fireplace in cooler weather.
Review 39:No log available in the fireplace. When we arrived, we did not know we needed to go to the nearby Renaissance.
Review 40:Atmosphere. Canopy bed. Whirlpool tub. Fireplace.
Review 41:No cold drinks to be had in the mansion. But I was prepared...I brought my own!
Review 42:The room is quiet and relaxing. The spa tub a HUGE perk when you have long drives. The 4 poster bed made me feel like I was at home not in a hotel. The location couldn't be better. The staff is wonderful and being connected to the Hotel, and its facilities also a MAJOR PERK!
Review 43:The only thing we did not like about the Whitehall mansion was the bed. It was very uncomfortable after sleeping for several hours. This could be also because my back issues.
Review 44:The Whitehall mansion was a great place to stay. Although it does sit in the Marriott parking lot once you walk inside you the ambience takes over! Everything was clean we had a bottle of wine and the log for the fire waiting for us upon our arrival. And the location of the mansion was within minutes of anything you wanted to do in Mystic.
Review 45:The cheese and cracker tray could have been a little more thought out.The lack of choice of cheeses was sad...But I live in Holland so.... It would have been nice to be able to get some water or a soda in the house. But really no complaints at all.
Review 46:The fireplace made the room cozy and the spa tub was a welcome change. I travel a lot and this was a wonderful break from the humdrum rooms I usually get! Being attached to the Hotel having use of its facilities is a BOON! It was quiet and wonderful. I will be back for sure!
Review 47:The bed wasn't the most comfortable. We think mattress needs to be replaced. And while housekeeping was good at coming in and making our bed, and replenishing clean towels, they should do more thorough cleaning in between guest's. The Betsy room needs a good vacuuming, dusting and could use some new curtains in the bathroom.
Review 48:This is an old building built in 1771. It is exactly as you see pics online. We liked the fact that it was still in an old state. The Betsy room we stayed in, is for most part old and antique-ish. If you are looking for nostalgia, you'll appreciate this place of stay...The wine upon arrival is a great touch and the oversized whirlpool is Wow! We'll visit again someday.
Review 49:Everything was excellent.
Review 50:When booking the location you must realize you are staying in a mansion just outside the main Marriott Hotel. But you have access to all the amenities of the hotel. They provide you with a bottle of wine and there is a fireplace in your room where they provide 1 duraflame log. Crackers and cheese at nite and muffins and fruit in the am unless you want to take the very short walk to the main hotel for the free breakfast buffet. It is perfect for a different and romantic getaway.
Review 51:Need a more prominent sign, we missed the mansion the first time we drove by, the complex appeared to be just a Marriot.
Review 52:In-room fireplace. Continenetal breakfast and evening snack, also the buffet in the main building. Staff helpful when needed.
Review 53:I didn't like that the place was listed as a bed and breakfast with indoor pool, but in actuality you had to walk across the parking lot for those amenities very deceiving on that part
Review 54:The pictures made it look like it was a huge mansion with sprawling grounds, when I got there it was in the parking lot of the residence Inn, the pool was at hotel not in house, I tried switching rooms but it wasn't possible. We went to the "mansion" to our room and to our surprise it was quaint and pretty, warm and inviting I did enjoy that it was a kid free place since it was our 10 year anniversary with out kids
Review 55:Spider webs in corners by drapes! Drapes also needed to be vacuumed. In the middle of the night we could hear mice in the walls couldn't sleep after that!
Review 56:Location was great!
Review 57:Windows could not be opened so room was very hot and stuffy. Could be fire safety issue here.
Review 58:Guests staying in the mansion had use of sitting roo with treats morning and evening.
Review 59:Disorganized check in - didn't know where to go; had to ask for the "free" wine; general lack of organization; feels like it's the adopted child of the Marriott that they don't know how to treat
Review 60:The fireplace, the wine and cheese (once we got it) and the charm of the old place, free breakfast at the Residence Inn
Review 61:First the website makes it look like this quaint country inn, IT'S IN THE MIDDLE OF A PARKING LOT! I'm all for the rustic feel of the 17 and 1800s but when I found out it is owned and run by Hotel chain that surrounds it I would have expected a lot more. dirty ripped drapes on the windows, broken wood venetian blinds. VERY creaky floors, you can literally hear and understand what people are saying in the other rooms. Dirty carpets!
Review 62:Can't really think of anything.
Review 63:I wouldn't quite call this B&B a mansion, but it is a lovely 18th century building that's reminiscent of the American colonial era. The sleep was comfortable. The room was quaint, clean and inviting. Staff were lovely, and they prepare a complimentary wonderful wine & cheese for the guest. All and all it was fantastic, and I will definitely look forward to visiting again. Also, a MAJOR thank you to Marriott team who were so helpful during our stay!
Review 64:No grounds at the Inn to sit outside to relax or read. The Inn is located in the middle of a parking lot.
Review 65:Best of everything, a 200 year old house located next to a very nice hotel. Choice of a continental breakfast in the Inn or great hot buffet at the hotel. The room was a large suite and very nice. You could also use the pool and hotel work out areas.
Review 66:-building is in the middle of a parking lot. -no one to tell you where to go when you arrive at the "mansion", have to figure out yourself that you need to go to the chain hotel in it's backyard -"common area" in the mansion was dungeon-like and feel
Review 67:room was very nice once you got into it.
Review 68:No Wi-Fi in room only available in adjacent hotel. No alarm clock.
Review 69:Best night's sleep ever, lovely canopy bed, great whirlpool tub, fireplace in room, as well as air conditioning. Cheese and crackers appeared each afternoon in the common room, welcome bottle of wine, continental breakfast which can be supplemented by hot breakfast buffet in adjacent hotel. Facilities of hotel available to Inn guests. coffeemaker and microwave in common room. Quiet clean room with ice bucket, wine glasses and corkscrew. Journal to record your stay and see opinions of previous guests.
Review 70:No log in fireplace (but it was summer!), confusing registration with key at modern Marriott Suites office several hundred yards away---this should be noted on website! Jacuzzi works but needs some upkeep; missing light bulb in bathroom.
Review 71:Large room with good light, comfortable four-poster bed, fireplace, overt sense of history, free bottle of wine, snacks. Friendly, helpful staffing.
Review 72:The on-line pix gave the impression the mansion was in a bucolic setting, not 50 yards from a main road. Even the picture booking.com shows at the beginning of the room makes it seem as if there is a nice field leading up to the inn, not a tarmac parking lot.
Review 73:The mansion and room was excellent. The breakfast at the regular part of the hotel was good. The service staff couldn't have been any more accomodating. The location was good as a departure point for going places and very close to 95. I thought it was an extremely good value.
Review 74:I liked staying at an Historic Inn with just enough modern touches to make it comfortable.
Review 75:Good value! Nice surprise that stay included the use of Residence Inn amenities.
Review 76:It was within a mile of the attractions and far enough away to be quiet
Review 77:At check in the signage could be more clear where to go. This is a very minor thing.
Review 78:Very nice place, the staff took very good care of us.
Review 79:Nothing, really!
Review 80:Bottle of wine offered, the whirlpool, real working fireplace in the room, stylish...
Review 81:Needs softer bed!
Review 82:Loved the mansion and history
Review 83:Bed was a little noisy.
Review 84:Bed was wonderful, loved the whirlpool bath and endless hot water.
Review 85:Faulty outlets in bathroom
Review 86:The fireplace, the welcome wine and crackers and cheese.
Review 87:there wasn't anything
Review 88:the fireplace & the rustic charm
Review 89:I felt like I was on my honeymoon again!
Review 90:Nothing, everything was great.
Review 91:The antique fire place
Review 92:Steps going up to room
Review 93:The breakfast
Review 94:Fireplace and Jacuzzi tub were a nice change of pace. Can't complain about a complimentary bottle of wine.
Review 95:The mansion was in a parking lot
Review 96:It was close to the highway
Review 97:Enjoyed staying in a historic facility. Bed was comfortable and we rested well.
Review 98:No A/C Poor housekeeping. Staff member exceptionally rude. Booked one night, stayed a 2nd, first night booked @130, the 2nd-without notice-170.
Review 99:Great room.
Review 100:The outside setting being literally surrounded by the Residence Inn.. incongruous with a typical B&B.
Review 101:The atmosphere inside the mansion house, the coffee in the morning, use of the amenities of the Residence Inn, and the complimentary wine and cheese.
Review 102:Would of been nice to let you know it's part of a hotel chain ,has lost all it's charm ,historic house in the middle of a paved parking lot
Review 103:Mansion was nice, bed was terrible
Review 104:We loved the old building, it was very quaint. Having the amenities at the hotel was a bonus. It's not the typical B & B, but we would definitely stay there again.
Review 105:Despite the claims, this was NOT a B&B in the true sense of the word. You can put up with lumpy beds, climbing up narrow stairs and a musty, old atmosphere if you get something in exchange -- wine and cheese in the evening, a bit of history about the place (it was built in 1771) and a really nice, intimate breakfast in the morning. But none of that happened here. The breakfast was the usual self-serve motel buffet breakfast across the parking lot in the Residence Inn. So, basically, this was a sub-quality room in an old house with none of the charm of a true B&B. How a major motel chain does B&Bs. And it was near the highway, not near the center of Mystic. Still had to drive in to see the town. Skip it.
Review 106:We felt that the building was charming and that it was updated in a way that preserved the historic nature of the property. The other guests were friendly and we really enjoyed the evening wine and cheese "party". The staff was very helpful and pleasant and we had a great time. We'd love to stay here again soon!
Review 107:Not really a bed and breakfast as I was expecting. These rooms are part of the Residence Inn they just happen to be in an old building and have a separate sitting room where they serve some snacks in the morning and afternoon. For all other services you need to walk out of the building, across the parking lot and to the lobby. It has parking and driving all around it. I was a bit confused at check in that I needed to go to the lobby of the Residence Inn since I was expecting to check into a bed and breakfast. The room was downstairs and as is normal for older buildings there is quite a bit of noise from the upstairs neighbors. Also a bit of noise from the sitting room which is right outside the doors of both of the downstairs rooms with the ice machine etc. Would also have liked to have a table/desk space - there isn't a spot to sit and do some writing. If you can handle getting your luggage upstairs, I'd probably ask for an upstairs room in the future for more privacy and quiet
Review 108:Nice big comfortable room with a fire place. Well restored, comfortable bed, nice big dresser and closest space to put you stuff into.
Review 109:The Mansion website photos are deceptive for the location. It is right next to the parking lot however we still enjoyed our visit. Most hotels are right next to parking lots!
Review 110:The privacy of having a house instead of a hotel was fantastic. We still had use of the Residence Inn facilities nearby.
Review 111:odd location, settee not comfortable to sit on in room, very steep stairs to room, not a B&B in the traditional sense, advertising was misleading in that it omits that it is owned by the Marriott corp and is a part of the complex
Review 112:quiet for location, bed was fine, breakfast
Review 113:Staff at Marriot, not Mansion, not much of a view, fllors worn.
Review 114:Very reasonable price, especially for Mystic, free bottle of wine and cheese and crackers, full breakfast buffet, fireplace and jacuzzi in room, nice TV, staff helpful.
Review 115:The sheets and blankets on the bed need a serious upgrade. Very chaffing and blankets have seen better days.
Review 116:Having use of both facilities (Residence Inn) as well as a romantic B&B was well worth the money and actually more. The bottle of wine and cheese was a very nice touch. And the morning breakfast at the Residence Inn was truly unexpected. Was very good.
Review 117:The cheese platter was just some swiss cheese and a few different crackers. Also, the pictures were misleading. I was not expecting this inn to be in a parking lot next to an on ramp.
Review 118:When we arrived we had to check in at the Marriott which was directly behind the mansion. We were told that all rooms in the mansion were sold out and the room they had left was without heat. It was a special weekend for my husband and I this ruined it we will never book again.
Review 119:Not too big a deal but there was cream for the coffee that's provided in the palor. When I brought it to the Attention of the front desk staff they had known about it but did nothing About it. Also there was no hair dryer In my room.
Review 120:This is our second stay at whitehall mansion. The staff is always friendly and helpful. We love the history of the mansion and found it quite interesting when went to the cemetery across the street and found the headstones of the people who lived in the home. It's said to be haunted but we didn't experience anything unusual. Look forward to our next stay.
Review 121:The inn is part of the Residence Inn on the same grounds. This gave us access to the facilities but it made it hard to find because their sign was very hard to see at night. The Residence Inn's well lit signage overpowered the Whitehall Mansion sign.
Review 122:The room was cozy and well furnished with antiques. There was a fireplace in the room, but we didn't use it because of the large fireplace in the lounge right outside our door. Coffee was available with fruit and muffins every morning. Each evening there was a plate of cheese and crackers.
Review 123:The staff was very discourteous. The mansion is part of a larger hotel. Not a mansion at all. It was one small building 200+ feet removed fromthe large commercial hotel. We couldn't find where to check in untilwe asked in the main hotel where the mansion was. They pointed at anold, large house. Check in..They were supposed to bring wine and cheeseto your room upon arrival (as advertised) and the staff rudely informedus that we missed it. When I pressed the issue, he handed me a bottle ofwine. We then got to the room and tried to light a fire in theadvertised fireplace. There were no logs. We tried to ask the front deskand when they finally answered the phone, made me wait for the"other guy to clean up the wine & cheese you missed and maybehe'll know." Well, no one cleans up the wine and cheese or anyother part of the 'mansion lobby'- Old dishes, food, andwrappers in the floor. They never brought us a log and this reallyruined our little romantic getaway. Breakfast and dinner were supposedto be both hot and served at the mansion as per the website. They werein the other hotel and were in fact not hot. Breakfast was good, butdinner was lettuce, turkey and bread. It was cold and really ruined itthat we needed to leave our hotel and walk virtually down the block toeat. I tried to plan a romantic getaway. Wine delivered to my room, jacuzzi, fireplace, the works. I should have known it was all a frontwhen the 'Whitehall Mansion' was a 4 rooms standing in theparking lot of another hotel.
Review 124:There was a fireplace in all the rooms as well as 'wine andcheese' as well as breakfast and dinner served. The rooms were cozyonce you were in them and in the small room that was a lobby (no stafftho) there were cute little journals to write about your stay datingback 10+ years. The hotel this so called mansion belonged to surelooked nice.
Review 125:The room was dirty. Sheets were soiled I will never stay there again
Review 126:We only stayed two nights.
Review 127:The ability to stay overnight in a home that's over 200 years old that is full of early American history.
Review 128:For an old house, it was pretty clean. Not the cleanest but still very nice!
Review 129:The seclusion of the mansion from the inn. My wife and I will come back!
Review 130:Newer beds could be nice
Review 131:Fireplace Free wine at check-in
Review 132:not run as a bed and breakfast as it was advertised.it was like a hotel
Review 133:it was close to mystic
