Reviews for Thon Hotel Gildevangen
Review 1:The room was a little bit small
Review 2:The room was clean and functional. Great continental breakfast and dinner offered by the hotel. Positioned in the city center close to the train station and bus stops
Review 3:Got a double room with a real small bed for me and my grown up daughter although we had reserved a twin bed room. When we left we mentioned this and the staff said you have to say two separate beds when reserving.
Review 4:The location for visiting Trondheim just for a weekend was perfect, near everything. The bus from the airport stopped outside the hotel. The breakfast was fantastic.....everything you could wish was there!
Review 5:The bed sheets were not pleasurable, little bit itchy for me. But just a little.
Review 6:Excellent value for money, the location was perfect for me. Easy to come by the airport buss (Flybussen).
Review 7:The room was quite cold and it would have been nice to have tea/coffee facilities on the room.
Review 8:It was close to the town and the bus and railway stations. The breakfast was excellent with lots of choice.
Review 9:This time my reservation was missing, even though I had the confirmation on mail. But they solved it at the hotel when I arrived, and also got my stay to the same price as in booking.com
Review 10:I love staying at Gildevangen, because of it's location and for it's positive staff☺
Review 11:Fantastic breakfast - good range of hot and cold dishes. We were very full and happy (great for expensive place like Norway!) Location - close to the train station, and walking distances to all the majour tourism locations in Trondheim. Nice coffee shops and supermarkets are just around the corner. Wifi works fine and the room is reasonably spacious for two people carrying two medium suitcases.
Review 12:No complaints really. Everything was wonderful.
Review 13:The room was quite spacious, with a lovely view. 5 minute walk from the train station in the heart of downtown. Staff was excellent, and quite helpful. Great hotel!
Review 14:I ate something wrong and the reception was kind and sent for medicine at the pharmacy. Since I am not local, this was a great and welcome service. Thank you, to all staff
Review 15:My room only had a hard office chair; there was nowhere comfortable to sit. Perhaps this is the norm in 3-star hotels in Norway?) I would liked a wider range of TV channel with English; it was all entertainment and no news. (Again, though, this may be the norm; I'm not sure.)
Review 16:I liked most things but I think it's important that your publicity makes clear that Thon offers a Norwegian or Scandinavian experience. That's why some reviews I read say such crazy things as "there was no bacon for breakfast" whereas there is a wonderful Norwegian-style breakfast.
Review 17:The room was clean and comfortable and well equipped. Good fast wifi with no need for fussing around with vouchers. The free supper buffet is really handy - especially given how pricey Norway is!
Review 18:Lack of on-site parking, although that is true of most or all downtown hotels (but free street parking on weekends!) We would have liked air conditioning, but we understand that is rare in northern Norway hotels.
Review 19:Great downtown location, within walking distance of most major attractions, including Nidaros Cathedral; wonderful breakfast; very clean facility; friendly and helpful staff; fairly quiet despite being downtown
Review 20:A budget hotel with no comfort. Sparse room very plain. Would not recommend staying there if u want any sort of comfort. Nice breakfast. Staff helpful. Had to pay for parking a walk up hill not convenient.
Review 21:Unfortunately because it is near the town it can be noisy at night but generally after 2am it's fine. This didn't happen every night just over the weekend. Although if you haven't fallen asleep by 3am you will be disturbed by the road cleaners who jet wash the pavements!
Review 22:The hotel is perfect for those wanting to be near the town also the selection of restaurants near by is great.
Review 23:Our sleep was disturbed by excessive shouting and street noise. Because it was hot we had to open the window. There was a lot of bar noise from downstairs as late as 2am. Next time I would want a room at the back.
Review 24:Beds were soft . Food was plentiful and very good quality. Bathroom and shower were very good. Staff extremely helpful .
Review 25:The facilities are disjointed, like something cobbled together by some mad trainee architect.
Review 26:The location is very good, the room was clean and the staff were pleasant.
Review 27:Booking.com noted parking, but it was on-street only and required pay after 8 PM and before 8AM. It was very noisy at night. We also happened to be there during the heat wave, so required open windows, making noise worse.
Review 28:location, breakfast, price
Review 29:Couldn't open window very far--it was very warm in room and there was no air circulation. We were close to a Main Street which they were working on or cleaning till past 430 a.m. It was very loud and made it very hard to sleep..
Review 30:Location and good breakfast. Helpful and friendly staff.
Review 31:the receptionists are not very professional, and some of the location they gave us was wrong.
Review 32:the hotel prepared small chocolate for our honeymoon, and the room we got was well located in the building, with windows on 2 walls, which allows super nice view and the space is much bigger. super comfortable bed.
Review 33:The booking.com web site allows this hotel to say it offers free evening buffet Monday-Thursday but only discloses that this is seasonal in the small print. It misled me, don't let it mislead you. The area is surrounded by pubs, a Scottish pub underneath, another opposite, an English pub within sight plus an Irish pub. So it can be noisy outside. This said, the soundproofing is good so you will only be disturbed on very hot nights when you want to leave the windows open, so mostly it's fine and it's not threatening.
Review 34:Good breakfast, central location, good soundproofing if windows closed.
Review 35:Parking outside very expensive but then Norway is very expensive on the whole.
Review 36:Position is great for the railway station and seeing the town. very welcoming and helpful staff. Excellent breakfast.

Review 54:Very good location in the city centre. Friendly staff and excellent breakfast.
Review 55:Too small bathroom. Two lamps, only one lamp bulb - and it didn`t work..
Review 56:The breakfast and the beds. The room and the bathroom were clean.
Review 57:Too hot in building.
Review 58:Reasonably short walk from train station Able to open windows - bonus.
Review 59:We had a room facing a small street corridor. Both nights (up till 03:00 hours) there was a terrible noise in that street because of a nightclub.
Review 60:no kettle in room
Review 61:breakfast, comfortable bed.
Review 62:Clean comfortable room. Excellent shower. Fine breakfast.

Review 65:Nothing.
Review 66:Good, clean & well run hotel in an excellent location. Very helpful staff.
Review 67:Nice hotel in the center of Trondheim. Clean room, good breakfast with many choices.
Review 68:The rooms haver very thin walls and our neighbour did talk all night long so we didn't sleep very well
Review 69:Breakfast Buffet, Location, Staff
Review 70:very good breafkast, clean
Review 71:new section is far and convoluted path from reception

Review 75:the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Lovely breakfast.
Review 76:noisy, trying to sleep over a bar
Review 77:breakfast location staff cleanliness
Review 78:Shame there was no facility to have an evening meal at the hotel
Review 79:Close to the city centre with ease of access to the railway station
Review 80:No kettle, tea, safe in the room. Not once in 5 days the linen was changed, towels are changed virtually on demand. Pretty noisy from outside. If you have choice - choose the new wing of the building.
Review 81:The location and breakfast are excellent.
Review 82:There are definitely fancier hotels in town but for what we paid compared to other hotels we were very happy
Review 83:Some of the best service I've had in a hotel, staff were helpful, kind and accommodated us and our little baby. Rooms and facilities were good, location good. Free light supper on the Thursday was a great bonus (not available everyday so check), breakfast great.
Review 84:Room was very small. Couldn't work the air conditioning - room was very hot and noisy outside
Review 85:Breakfast was excellent. Let us into our room at 8.30 am
Review 86:Our room was quite noisy one night as there were people on the road talking quite loudly. If you are a good sleeper it might not affect you (my wife did not hear a thing).
Review 87:The room was modern and equipped in a very efficient way, Breakfast was excellent, bathroom was very good. THe location for getting around in Trondheim and to trains and buses is excellent. For streetcar Nr. 1 (called Trikk) to Lian and for boats (Hurtigruten) it is still good.
Review 88:Corridor carpeting and lift showed signs of wear and tear - contrasting with other areas of the hotel which were very well maintained.
Review 89:Hotel within easy reach of the station, and well placed for further exploration of the city. Close to shops and restaurants. Breakfast - choice of food very good, staff helpful and attentive, dining room bright and pleasant. All facilities clean.
Review 90:breakfast included but told when arrived it was 2 hours later than usual so missed out but were given fruit and yoghurt to go no tea/coffee in room
Review 91:in centre of town free coffee/tea in reception
Review 92:Nothing worth mentioning.
Review 93:Enjoyed our stay. Great location...comfortable room, very good breakfast and enjoyed the free light evening meal and continuous supply of quality coffee and tea.
Review 94:perhaps the room was slightly on the small side -but perfectly adequate for 3 night stay
Review 95:everything and the price was very fair unlike most hotels in Norway
Review 96:Used sanitary items left in bathroom by previous guests - took two requests and more than one day for them to be removed. YUK.
Review 97:Excellent breakfast and supper. Great waffles. Attentive wait staff and admin staff. Room initially allocated had scaffolding outside window and we requested a move without any problem. We were immediately given two alternatives. TV problem and power outage fixed within the hour. Very convenient to all attractions.
Review 98:Thought we were getting a light supper as per booking but was not the case. Noise from workmen.
Review 99:Position pleasant staff excellent breakfast storage facility for luggage on day of arrival/ checking out Internet. Very family and child friendly relaxed atmosphere.
Review 100:We arrived very early after taking an all night train. The pleasant and helpful staff gave us the room early and this made our day nicer. The hotel is very well located, close to the train station and the airport bus, and there are nice perks like coffee available throughout the day. Breakfast was very good.
Review 101:Room was too hot and heating could not be adjusted; no boiling water facilities in room.
Review 102:Helpful staff, good breakfast, comfortable bed, good bathroom.
Review 103:can't think of anything we didn't like.
Review 104:We arrived at 8am to leave secure for the day. We were told our room was ready and we could check in there and then. That was brilliant. The hotel offered a free snack buffet supper that was also very good.
Review 105:Walls were somewhat thin, so noise could be a problem with the wrong neighbors.
Review 106:Got a great price on the room. Hotel common areas are clean and updated. The room itself was clean and comfortable but a bit outdated. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Complimentary breakfast was quite good.
Review 107:Hard to find with the works going on outside, make sure you don't go to the other one in the city centre!
Review 108:Close to train station, free hot drinks in the lobby, excellent room + breakfast
Review 109:bars nearby were very noisy until 0230 especially on weekends but even on weeknights recently. unpleasant hassle if you have a car where's Frodo?
Review 110:The hotel is situated within 5 minutes walk from the railway station. The airport shuttle took 50 minutes and stopped at the hotel. The room was very nice and comfortable.
Review 111:Convenient location close to centre, train/bus terminal and the Hurtigruten. Room very clean, a little small but cosy and comfy. On request was given tea making facilities. Breakfast substantial and good choice. Helpful staff. Would stay again.
Review 112:The bed was too soft for backs to be comfortable. I would love to have ablanket available instead of the duvet - I was too hot to sleep well.
Review 113:The hotel was well located, for shopping and the airport flybus leftright across the road. Staff were helpful and friendly, the breakfastplentiful. The staff arranged a breakfast bag when we left early. It isa no frills place, but convenient.
Review 114:Nothing, actually.
Review 115:Friendly and service-minded staff. Light evening meal included Monday to Thursday. Two coffee machines in the reception area - with a number of choices, including excellent espresso. Airport bus right outside the hotel.
Review 116:Lack of decoration in the room.
Review 117:Friendly staff, got late check in and late check out without any problems. Normal Thon Hotel breakfast, clean room although not luxurious. The location is excellent, close to everything from transportation to shopping.
Review 118:Loud street noise... Had to have the windows closed shut.. Where I wouldprefer to leave them open
Review 119:The attention to detail for the childs experience for the time of theirstay...the coffee...the staff....the beautiful painting in the foyer bygullvag (?) ..
Review 120:Good simple solid scandinavian design but everything there for comfort and needs. Looked like the hotel also catered really well for children and families, there was an excellent play area in the foyer, and specific breakfast facilities and area designed for young children. The breakfast was really excellent, good quality and great range of both hot and cold foods, fruit, cereals, delicious breads, juices and yogurts. Really sets you up for the day. For lone traveller like me, friendly helpful staff, pleasant and newly refurbished communal lounge areas in foyer with free tea, coffee and hot chocolate if you wanted company to read a book or the papers, use the internet and a quiet bedroom (in the refurbished part to retreat to for rest. Nice ambiance generally. Really reasonable price and overall excellent value for money.
Review 121:There was nothing I did not like
Review 122:The location was great - near centre, railway and cruise ship Free coffee/tea in reception when you got home after a long day
Review 123:The table to work on was too small. I had to sit under the TV screen and squeeze myself in to work. You can do that for a short time chekcing emails or so ... but not for really working. I will not book such a room again because of this.
Review 124:The rooms were very nice. The furniture was new. Although the hotel wassituated in the center of Trondheim, it was quiet and noise from outsidedidn't disturb us. There was a small meal served every evening that wasfree of charge. Smart!
Review 125:Very clean and comfortable.
