Reviews for 101 Guesthouse
Review 1:This place is not value got money. A very small room and an outside toilet and bathroom. Its a glorified hostel, cheap and tacky furniture and an uncomfortable bed. If I paid half the price I could not complain.
Review 2:The location is very good and the staff were generally friendly. It did have a shared kitchen which could be used to prepare a meal.
Review 3:Could have a private bathroom
Review 4:Nice single room. Near from city centre. I didnt any issue to sleep. Calm during the night. You can book your trip in the tourist shop at the main street beside the hotel.
Review 5:The location is just the best : its on the main street, close to shops, sightseeings and cafes and so on. But what is even better that is staff! Just amazing personnel, very eager to help. Thank you!
Review 6:The room was simple, better for single travelers than a couple. The price does not match the level of accommodation. It is pricey for bare bones.
Review 7:The location was excellent for going out and shopping in downtown Rek.
Review 8:The bed wasn't pushed against a wall so using a pillow was difficult. when I checked in the guy didn't show me where my room was or anything, just left me alone and handed me the key, didn't even tell me the room number. The place was quite expensive and a touch rundown.
Review 9:I liked the general location. It is not directly downtown so it is a bit quieter than being directly downtown where the night life is. It was a really secure building. The shower had great water pressure.
Review 10:The room was extremely overpriced for what it offered and was of very low quality. It was bare and small and the bedding was shabby and old. For €100 I expected a much better room, and at least a bathroom included. The room did have a washbasin which was good. I arrived at the hotel very late and just wanted to sleep, which is why I didn't ask for another room. There are much better hotels in the same area which charge the same rate or even less
Review 11:The hotel is central and close to the Straeto and BSI bus stations. They are also very flexible with check in and out times and one of the staff members there was extremely helpful
Review 12:A bit noisy. People could cook in the small kitchenette and as the door towards the room floor was kept open, all the corridors had the smell 24 hours per day.
Review 13:Helpful people, value for money, central location
Review 14:No ensuite bathrooms, no blackout curtains.
Review 15:In a very good location. Easy, short walk into town, walkable to the bus station, near the shops. Good wifi.
Review 16:Office was closed at 8am and had to call and wait for one hour to check in. When they came the person was helpful and gave me a room by 10am
Review 17:The guest house was central and the price was reasonable
Review 18:The water is off putting because of the smell & you can hear a lot of noise through the windows.
Review 19:Friendly staff, great central location - right near the harbour, the town & 10 mins away from the hallgrimskirkja church. Restaurant on the ground floor that offers a great breakfast. No problems with using the shared bathrooms.
Review 20:No staff to be found anywhere at no time
Review 21:Very clean, quiet, only 5/10 min walk from the Main Street. Comfy bed and clean convenient facilities. Excellent value for money
Review 22:Nothing. The conditions were just as i expected compared to the price :)
Review 23:The staff were really polite, the beds were decent & the service was top notch! I'd like to thank the staff again if they see this :)
Review 24:No receptionist in the new building in the evening. Therefore we have to walk from the new building to old bldg. just to speak with the receptionist.
Review 25:Location is near for everything. The staff is very helpful.
Review 26:Staff weren't that polite, kitchen facilities were pretty limited (only a plug in electric hob with 2 hobs on it between the whole hostel). We ended up staying in the Hostel above it (4th Floor Hotel) on our return trip, which was only slightly more expensive and much nicer and better value for money.
Review 27:Good location, low cost, we had a big room between 3 of us, but I think this was just by chance and that the other rooms were pretty small.
Review 28:I arrived the hotel in very late night because the flight was delayed. The staff put a paper on the board which told me the room number. It was helpful.
Review 29:Rooms small with limited storage for luggage/clothes for a longer stay (we only stayed one night)
Review 30:Friendly helpful staff in good location. Comfortable beds, and free wifi a bonus
Review 31:1. If you get your card stolen out of opening hours( 8:00am -16:00 pm), you'll have to sleep in the streets as there is no one from the Guesthouse to be kind enough to come and let you in. And that even if you call them an explain the situation. In the morning I was asked questions like "You had maybe a little too much to drink" etc. Even though I told them that it got stolen with my credit cards. I don't think it was in their place to ask me any questions. There was no empathy questions about if I had cancelled the credit cards due the risk of misuse or any apology about not coming to lock me in. I was lucky I have a friend in Iceland that could give me a couch until the next day. 2. I've booked a room with toilet and shower inside the room. That was a big mistake. It were in "the new locations" (Laugavegur) and they were building the future restaurant at the entrance. That gave a lot of noise and dust all over. And for that I payed more than to have shower and toilet in the hallway(Snorrabraut). Plus there were no information on their webpage about that there were no kitchen. So if you wanted to use that you'll have to go to the "old location" crossing the street. 3. The cleaning was horrific. No cleaning for 6 days. Not even the trash or a new towel. 4. There is no wardrobes or hooks, so you don't have any place to hang your clothes. There is that at the "old location" And the service it's much better. I've stayed at the Guesthouse in the summer(Snorrabraut) and it was better. Unfortunately this wasn't the case this time. It felt like they were too eager to make money without regarding the comfort of their guests. I'm not implying that I was expecting a 5 star Hotel. But a minimum of empathy and cleanliness with a minimum of inventory in the room would make the stay much better. I will rethink if I ever will book a room again at this Guesthouse.
Review 32:Location
Review 33:Room was not cleaned during our stay (4 nights). Shower not very convenient, impossible not to have water everywhere in the bathroom.
Review 34:Excellent location, very helpfull and friendly staff. Room and furniture clean and new.
Review 35:The reception was not always open/manned. The breakfast cost more than the rate advertised so if you're travelling on a budget would be an issue.
Review 36:This hotel is in a great location and had room with en-suite. The staff were very helpful when around.
Review 37:The guesthouse provides very good and complete kitchen facilities and the area is spacious. However, some of the guests are not cosiderate and lack the discipline when using the kitchen, making it a mess
Review 38:Nowhere to put/hang clothes, no waste bin - some basic things missing - tv didn't work. Very expensive for what it is.
Review 39:New room, good location, clean
Review 40:Is on 3rd floor of a building with other guesthouses etc. Noisy due to traffic (is right by a main road, no double glazing). Stayed for 5 nights but room only cleaned 3 times.
Review 41:Good location, right near main shopping street.
Review 42:After 19 nights in U.S. motels, the lack of facilities for the money was a rude shock.
Review 43:Well-positioned along the main street from the city centre. Staff were friendly. I slept well. Wi-Fi worked well.
Review 44:Bathroom was done poorly so all water from shower just stayed there on the floor during our whole 1 day stay... I guess there was a sewer somewhere, but water just did not go that way.
Review 45:Location in the middle of the city. Easy to access and find a parking place. We had a private room with bathroom. Room was new and clean.
Review 46:queuing for the shower
Review 47:The friendly staff, the fact that we could use the fridge and dining room facilities and prepare our own food. We were near everything - easy to walk anywhere.
Review 48:Stay clear of the breakfast. Eat at a local bakery or get something at the nearby supermarket. Note in your booking if you want twin or double room.
Review 49:Price is nice. Everything is simple, but still satisfying for the price. Shared bath is no problem since there are enough baths and WCs.
Review 50:optional breakfast disappointing and overpriced got put in new (being renovated) building across the street that was somewhat unfinished. will probably be nice once completed/
Review 51:price, location, free wif-fi, clean, staff was friendly and helpful
Review 52:Everything was good. No dislikes.
Review 53:We were on Reykjavik for Neil Yougs first concert there. Our chice was 101 Guesthouse and i do not regrett it. Nice party in the dining room untill early moning. No complaints.
Review 54:seems lots of things were not cleaned.
Review 55:location is super
Review 56:Wifi was sometimes weak.
Review 57:The location, nice staff and clean rooms.
Review 58:Good location, a few minutes walk to city centre. For one night: a big OK.
Review 59:I stayed 5 nights there, but only saw the crew for like 3 days. It's quite inconvenient if I need any help from them...
Review 60:basic but clean room
Review 61:Good location, good value for money, nice staff.
Review 62:Great location, possibility to check in very late at night, nice staff.
Review 63:No bad experiences
Review 64:The staff were very helpful and friendly. The location was very convenient for shopping and sightseeing.
Review 65:The staff was extremely helpful. The beds were comfortable. We found the kitchen an asset.
Review 66:Very bad maintenance of the common areas. Shower door broken, shower head not working properly.
Review 67:Employee helped for late check-in.
Review 68:Nothing
Review 69:Decent, basic facilities but nothing lacking; and very very helpful staff
Review 70:They weren't there when we arrived, even though we told them we would be arriving early to store our luggage before we could check in.
Review 71:Wifi connexion could be better
Review 72:good location, very nice people
Review 73:One of the showers was cold and remained cold
Review 74:The beds were very good and the location is great, right in the center of Reykjavik
Review 75:Rooms could be cleaned more often
Review 76:Very friendly, great location, safe and clean.
Review 77:Was not shown lunch room we could of used.
Review 78:Was convenient to go to centre of town
Review 79:Bathroom across the hall.
Review 80:Good location, clean.
Review 81:i like here, cuz the staff can speak Chinese haha!they help me so much! And the hotel is very close to the Main Street.
Review 82:Bed was great . People nice . They did all that they said they would
Review 83:super nice cosy place and the lady who took care of the guest, super nice! :) i will defenetely come back!
Review 84:Every staff member was very helpful. Great location on the main street.
Review 85:No kettle
Review 86:location and service are really good
Review 87:good service very helpful on question, arrangement and tour booking good location comfortable
Review 88:Reception was never open.
Review 89:The location was good and ease of access. The hostel was very clean
Review 90:Tv not connected to any aerial. Common areas under construction.
Review 91:On main street in Reykjavik. Recently refurbished room.
Review 92:The kitchen doesn't have an oven and free coffee.
Review 93:The location is perfect, pretty clean and cosy.
Review 94:Friendly staff. Rooms are basic.
Review 95:Materass was really uncomfortable
Review 96:I never stayed in a guesthouse before and have nothing to compare.
Review 97:location
Review 98:A bit loud outside at night.
Review 99:Neat, nice style, very modest. Clean. Very good location.
Review 100:the first day 4-bed room is too crowded to open luggage but the other stays they give us a bigger room. try your luck
Review 101:open kitchen and free wifi
Review 102:For the money, would have expected my own bathroom but that's Iceland!
Review 103:Good location, simple, clean room.
Review 104:We could easily hear the people in the next room
Review 105:Big clean room
Review 106:Since it is located in the city and by a major city street, I heard a lot of outside noise. This didn't bother as I'm used to it, but it may bother other people.
Review 107:Great location. My friend and I walked everywhere. Very clean and comfy rooms. I liked that all the showers and bathrooms were private.
Review 108:the blinds of the window does not work with the midnight sun, bring your own eye blinds/ mask if you need to sleep in the dark. the wifi is very weak, which may because I was staying at the end of the corridor
Review 109:The location is very good, it's at the end of the shopping main street yet it's quiet
Review 110:A couple of times I couldn't get the hot water running. Other than that it was pretty awesome.
Review 111:It was nice to have a sink in my room. Cooking facilities were GREAT!
Review 112:Hot-water supple whilst bathing can't be accepted.
Review 113:Good staff, can share experence on travelling, tradition & else about the city. Note & remind us(traveller) things we'd missed.
Review 114:The showers were quite an experience - one was cold for a while and the other had a spray so wide it was hard to find somewhere to get good water flow. But a minor detail with comparisons with the perks of this accommodation.
Review 115:Location was excellent, very comfortable beds, so clean and most importantly - warm.
Review 116:Comfortable, very convenience as it is near to main shopping street. I think most travel agent/airport bus pickup from/drop off from this guest house. Staff are friendly. Bed comfy,.. GOOD!! just a short walk can see the sea with snow mountain.. very convenience!! good experience!!
Review 117:I wish it had a mini fridge so we can keep some snacks in there since eating out is so expensive.
Review 118:It's in a great location, close to the ocean and the major shopping street. It wasn't luxury, but it was comfortable and provided a great place to sleep between our adventures.
Review 119:I could feel the springs on the bed, although it was not a big issue, since I still slept like a rock.
Review 120:The hotel (guest house) is located right in the center of town close to everything in Reykjavik. The staff are friendly, the place is clean, and parking is available on the street
Review 121:Very limited resources within the guesthouse and noisey at times. Ablutions are in need of modernisation as they look old and dirty
Review 122:The location of the guesthouse was ideal for the type of entertainment we were looking for.
Review 123:None of these was really a problem for us, but... – The guesthouse is by the main street Laugavegur, so there was some traffic noise. – No breakfast at the guesthouse. However the restaurant right downstairs served breakfast for 1800 ISK (~ 10 €). – The staff is present only for a couple hours a day. – The interior decor is kinda blank.
Review 124:+ Clean! + Friendly and helpful staff. + Very affordable, yet the location is ok: just a walking distance to action in Reykjavik. Also, there's the local bus station just around the corner. + Aside from the traffic noise, the guesthouse is surprisingly peaceful inside. No noise from neighbouring rooms.
Review 125:The downside of the convenient, central location is that there's a bit of road noise, though it's not at a level that will prevent most people from getting a decent night's sleep.
Review 126:The staff are very courteous and helpful and work hard to keep the guesthouse clean. The location of the guesthouse is good - right on Laugevagur near the central bus station, and five minutes' walk from one of Reykjavik's thermal pools. I think nearly everything in the hotel is either red, white, or a combination of red and white, which appealed to my Nordic minimalist streak and made me feel like I was staying on the space station from "2001: A Space Odyssey".
Review 127:Towels were ancient and had been washed too many times! Some newer onescould be provided
Review 128:Very comfortable beds. Staff was helpful in assisting us with planningour stay. Considering sky-high prices in Iceland this was a good value
Review 129:They didnt clean the room while i was there, the towel where not changed and the garbage bin not emptied
Review 130:Close to anything and really Nice staff, apart from the non existing cleaning i would stay there some other time
Review 131:Rooms are tiny.
Review 132:Location, value for money, the number of shared bathrooms is quite large as for such a small guesthouse, so you don't feel like living in the "hostel". Breakfast is offered for additional price and appeared to be quite generous.
Review 133:Excellent and friendly services. Able to remind customer for recent events not to be missed and travel recommendations. Great free services to book airport buses on behalf of customers.
