Reviews for Britannia Hotel
Review 1:Need better pillows on the bed! And the entrance to the hotel looks outdated, dirty and not welcoming!! Illogical that the wine bar adjacent to hotel CLOSES at 1600!! No decent wine in hotel bar...???
Review 2:Great location, friendly staff. Super spa.
Review 3:Small room on the floor that elevator does not reach. Luckily I had a small suitcase, but I do not imagine people with heavy luggage to climb there without the elevator. Horrible noise from the ventilation in the bathroom that was not possible to turn off! No tea/coffee making facilities in the room (4-star hotel????), although my colleagues staying in other rooms had it. Superbly inconvenient night lights near the bed (or literally IN the bed), that I nearly smashed with my head several times.
Review 4:Hotel atmosphere, breakfast, SPA, very good WiFi.
Review 5:Parking was far from horel
Review 6:The room was very nice and very clean. The hotel was in a great historical building and the building was beautiful. We were in Norway for 13 days and the breakfast at this hotel was by far, the best we had. Dozens of choices if very good food in a beaitiful dining room.
Review 7:We were banished to the 8th floor and the lift only gets the 7th and it was far, far away.
Review 8:It's a classical, old-fashioned and huge hotel. The breakfast is "gargantuan"! I just can't remember all the food.
Review 9:The breakfast is absolutely amazing! While we did not have a view to speak of, the room was spacius and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was large and the staff was very attentive and helpful
Review 10:Neither Palmhaven Restaurant or the Hornet Bar Brasserie open in the evenings. Great disappointment as we did not want to go out to eat in restaurants of unknown quality.
Review 11:Location and breakfast in the Palmhaven restaurant.
Review 12:The breakfast food and setting were outstanding. We liked the location and the service at the reception. The whole experience was excellent and I would recommend this hotel without hesitation.
Review 13:We booked a dinner at the hotel restaurant. However, when we arrived they told us that we had only one hour to finish the meal, as the restaurant closed earlier at 22.00. This should have been informed by the reception.
Review 14:Everything about the hotel was great from the moment we checked in. The receptionist was friendly and helpful and gave us a run down of the facilities. The spa was amazing and we went every day of our 5 night stay! The hotel was clean and the room was a good size and extremely comfortable. The breakfasts were awesome! We would come again!
Review 15:There is nothing I didn't like, however, for those looking for a sanitized hotel chain where everything looks the same, this isn't the place for you. The Brittania is an old charming building, unique, lovely grand lady and I hope they don't change a thing as they refurbish, including the fact that smoking is permitted in some rooms. Nothing is worse than having to run up and down to have a cigarette for those of us still wanting one. Please don't change that!
Review 16:The spa is amazing, breakfast incredible, location perfect, staff couldn't be more helpful and pleasant.
Review 17:Could have better closure for curtains to protect inexperienced eyes from the midnight sun.
Review 18:Very comfortable and an interesting historical hotel in a historical city. Convenient to everything we wanted to do.
Review 19:As is so often the case in Norweigian hotels, there is little sense of 'service'. no-one to help with bags or show you to your room, no sense of feeling a valued guest, everything a bit 'self-service'.
Review 20:Value. Location. Fairly comfortable room, admittedly with no frills.
Review 21:The shower does not have a shelf for your amenities so you have to put it on the floor, and as the shower is very small it is difficult to reach it. :)
Review 22:The overall impression of the hotel is very good. The breakfast is very impressive! Great location.
Review 23:The reseptionist wasnt as helpfull as i expected. No watercocker in the room, with some instant coffe. No place to put the suitcase.
Review 24:the breakfast, the bed, and the bedclothes, it was very clean. The cleaningstaff was very friendly.
Review 25:As many pointed out, it is a bit run down for the high price you pay. But there are no more hotels with such a good spa in Trondheim.
Review 26:Great Spa, great breakfast, location
Review 27:There is a lot of carpets and they all look faded. The common rooms and spaces should be refurbished. And the elevators.
Review 28:I had nice, reasonably spacious room. Very nice breakfast. Big, good quality flatscreen.
Review 29:Old food smell characteristic of run down hotels, room cleaning below par, sour milk served at breakfast.
Review 30:Excellent location and wonderful staff, including approachable young General Manager, who said the hotel will be brought back to its former glory by end of 2017.
Review 31:No complaint's what so ever!!!!
Review 32:Your staff was terrific especially Øyvind, hope that is correct he said it would be Ryan in English and Eva in the dinning room. The Jul Bord was Divine best one Ever!!!!! We will be back to try the Spa in the near future
Review 33:The last 5 years I have lived about 5-6 times at the hotel. During that time I have seen the hotel go Ffrom a very classy style and quality of service, food on par with Grand in Oslo - to be one "high value" hotel with budget quality, in the same league as First Hotels. Prices are maintained but includes less and less. One of the few reasons why this hotel has been selected previously was the included entrance to the hotel's magnificent spa area (which admittedly has had parts of the facilities out of service for 1.5 years!) This is not longer included and we think It is very sad to see such a negative development in one such historical hotel. Conclusion: Close it down and establish Rema 1000 instead. Reitan already own it anyway
Review 34:It is a nice building, some areas are newly renovated and the location is in the hearth of Trondheim
Review 35:The widest range of excellent breakfast choices I have ever seen, all eaten in a beautiful room. Very central situation ideally located for buses including bus to/from airport. For a single room it was large and with comfortable chairs.
Review 36:Very cold room on top floor up 2 flights, no lift, no help with luggage. Hole in wall. TV remote and desk light didn't work. Room lighting dreadful. Towel badly torn. Towels left from previous occupant.
Review 37:Handy for airport bus. Had stayed there several times in past with no complaints. Bathroom was okay. Had to leave bathroom door open to light bedroom.
Review 38:No tea and coffee facilities in my room. Really cheap nasty toiletries in my bathroom (I have had better shampoo in a travel lodge)..not what I expect from a 5 star spa hotel. Breakfast was average...cut fruit was from the day before (slightly fermented sour taste to everything). Scrambled eggs laying in snotty liquid, cold and uncovered...so everyone breathing on them, sneezing on them etc. Tiny room facing a back wall. Really long walk, plus stairs from the lift to my room. I had a bad back and two heavy cases. Complained to the management but got zero response or reply. Basically this hotel is a very expensive waste of money. Don't bother with it. I heard the Rica is much better.
Review 39:The friendly and helpful staff.
Review 40:Hotel is a bit confusing to get around, but if you pay attention to the signs & the helpful staff it's not a problem to find everything.
Review 41:Loved the hotel's buffet breakfast in the atrium and the new spa facilities. Very luxurious for the price.
Review 42:The lack of a adapter for charging the cell phone. There was no USB either which could have served the charging purpose.
Review 43:The complementary breakfast is second to none. The room was clean and quiet and the bed, with its loose quilt, was excellent. Location is central and easy walking to many places.
Review 44:Faded and threadbare; in need of a refurb. Typically aloof uninterested Norwegian service. A scrum at breakfast on weekends in the tatty palm court; busing of tables too slow.
Review 45:It's conveniently located with spacious rooms and a really great spa
Review 46:I disliked the cleaning that was so-so, about five loose items in the room (reported off course) gave it a mediocre feeling and was a major instant dissppointment. We're talking about (1) switching on the table lamp as a first action: the lamp shade was wobbling, like a cheap old lamp would. After fastening the fitting, it still appeared to have loose fit overall (??). Also (2) the telephone was litterally in pieces, (3) the toilet seat had a loose screw (imagine it wobbling as well), (4) the mini bar door was not fixed to the closet door... To finish, (5) the bed's head rest was... right: loose and appeared to just be standing against the wall, this bouncing back and forth. In general I didn't like the excellence of the hotel image not reaching the room, which was in the back part (not the old building, which probably houses the excellence). I didn't try the spa, out of fear for a disappointment there too. In general, yeah... The general unfreshness of the whole interior of mainly the back building was bothering me. I mean the freshness you can expect from a chain with the name starting with Sc, or even more with Ri (the real common excellence for my standards). If a hotel wants to have a non modern feeling to it, it has to have a timeless feeling to it, not a dilapidated one... I'd rather have paid more than my booking.com Genius fare to get a proper experience... Oh yeah, if interested: the shower idea, who came up with that?? Do we really have to dry the floor on our knees to not walk in water outside of it? I mean, putting on socks is a one time action for me at home... Make this water run away from the doors, not under them. By the way, when you start doing this drying, you get a good up close idea of how clean your bathroom really is... The towels are bleech white...
Review 47:I liked the kindness and service of the adequate personnel, I loved the wonderful breakfast (extremely important). An espresso machine, a must-have, is said to be underway. Good and stable internet, excellent location.
Review 48:Breakfast room not spacious enough for the guests - and too few people cleaning the tables after previous guests - messy breakfasts! Access to room via many halls and stairs - "long" way from reception to room - with rather old elevators! No AC in room - but a manual fan for the window.
Review 49:Historic hotel in mid of the city centre, short distance to all major attractions. Large breakfast buffet with plenty of good food. Nice spa setup.
Review 50:The hotel is in a state of decay. Moreover, the furnishings don't seem to be of high quality to begin with ( e.g., bathroom fixtures). Plus, there was a half eaten sandwich in the minibar.
Review 51:Breakfast is great. 12 kinds of cheese, 12 kinds of cold meats, 6 kinds of fish, etc.
Review 52:Only one thing, the hotell was like a labyrinth. And i wasnt the onlyone having trouble finding my room.
Review 53:My room was big and elegant, with a tub. Breakfast was excellent. Had healthy options as well. Free access to the spa, and it was the best part. Nice fitnessroom as well.
Review 54:Needs interior upgrade of entrance, lobby etc. with respect of the classic style of the hotel.
Review 55:Nice old classy hotel. Best breakfast ever. Central location in Trondheim. Our room had very recently been nicely renovated.
Review 56:Guests in a court yard below my room kept me awake until 2 am. Poor water pressure in the shower. Breakfast starts later at 8 am
Review 57:Helpful, friendly reception-went to a lot of effort to help me book a ferry. Great location Amazing breakfast in lovely surroundings. Beautiful character rooms, comfortable bed.
Review 58:Unfortunately it was very hot whilst we were there and Norway is not set up for temperatures around 30oC, so didn't sleep the best, however, staff went out of their way to provide fans, move to a cooler side of the hotel etc, so did everything they could to help.
Review 59:great hotel, centrally located and pool/spa area a very good surprise. Staff very friendly and helpful. Recommend it.
Review 60:You could see the furniture and bathroom facilities were a bit worn down, with that said, it was a minor problem.
Review 61:The room was spacious and clean, the breakfast was excellent, and the location perfect. The spa facilities was a pleasant surprise, it was possible to use the spa facilities with children between 9.00-12.00, which was great. Had a wonderful stay, and would recommend this hotel to others going to Trondheim.
Review 62:The elevators were confusing some going to even ours and others to odd. The hotel in general was rough around the edges. I wouldn't stay there again.
Review 63:We finally got an upgrade to a large room with an upstairs area. The hotel is enormous, it's layout confusing. The breakfast was a feast!!!
Review 64:No AC--Windows opened into the room--Curtains wouldn't close completely with windows open--& the birds 'screach' all night- it took a couple nights to adjust. The couch in our suite was very old & uncomfortable because the cushions were sunk into the frame--.
Review 65:Fabulous location---Convenient for walking--Also a bus from the airport drops you off a couple blocks away-Taxis always available---Great restaurant-Jonathans, nice lounge and cafe' on site-. Our breakfast was included-Amazing foods!! Lovely on site spa & exercise room. Wonderfully comfortable pillows and comforter---Complimentary bath products for every need--Nice towels, robes and even slippers!
Review 66:The spa and breakfast at this hotel are fabulous and included. The spa had a mineral pool, swimming pool and several rooms to relax in. Really wonderful. We loved this hotel.
Review 67:Lovely place! Old grandeur and super friendly staff.
Review 68:The rooms are old, but I hear there will be major renovations done in the near future.

Review 82:Had to cross half the block to get to our room. Esp. with a lot of luggage quite a challange...
Review 83:Breakfast is absolutely outstanding!! Nice staff.
Review 84:The parking is completely inadequate for any normal size car.
Review 85:The service, the breakfast, and the spa
Review 86:The hotel is old, including some of the rooms
Review 87:Breakfast Location
Review 88:Old bath with mold
Review 89:Spa and breakfast
Review 90:Shabby furniture in small rooms with absolutely no view (even as a Deluxe Twin!)
Review 91:Old rooms
Review 92:The breakfast Location
Review 93:noisy at night The hotel does not have umbrellas free of charge.
Review 94:a historic elegant hotel grand breakfast
Review 95:noisy
Review 96:a elegant hotel with a swimming pool which is rare in Norway's hotels
Review 97:Good sleep, good breakfast, dinner was very nice, and really good service
Review 98:staff. food. place
Review 99:Staff somewhat overbearing, no sense of humour.
Review 100:Breakfast was really excellent.
Review 101:little old
Review 102:spa breakfast reception service
Review 103:extremely dirty room
Review 104:Great location, great Spa area with pool, excellent breakfast. Very much recommended
Review 105:No air conditioning and the night was quite warm.
Review 106:Great location for a fair price. Good breakfast and spa.
Review 107:Our room was way too hot and outside in the yard was a noisy fan of some sort. Affected our sleep.
Review 108:Very friendly staff and impressive breakfast.
Review 109:7-8 stairs to get to ground floor; not nice with luggage; in the summer heat, the rooms, gangway are terribly hot
Review 110:The location
Review 111:Bar closing times
Review 112:The location. Resturant
Review 113:Splendid spa and breakfest
Review 114:We have to open the window because it was no air conditioning in the room and outside was very noisy though it was midnight!!!
Review 115:Breakfast is excellent
Review 116:Lack of service in late evening.
Review 117:Breakfast Spa Location
Review 118:Room very small.
Review 119:Very large hotel. Old grand feeling. Magnificent breakfast - best in Norway.
Review 120:Minuscule bathroom with dirty floor. Small room with no view (but I haveto admit it was cheap, so it is understandable). Spa closes at 21:00 and20:50 the Staff turned off all the showers, while I was still in thesauna, without informing me they are already closing. They took away allthe water earlier, as well.
Review 121:Incredible breakfast! Very good spa. Fantastic location. Veryfriendly staff.
Review 122:This hotel has seen better times and could do with a refurbishment to bring it up to date. Our room had curtains which could not close properly and were hanging off the rails. Everything looked quite worn both in the room and the public areas
Review 123:The pool was nice and the breakfast buffet had a good selection although too much butter was used for the pancakes and waffles making them soggy
Review 124:Exceptionally rude staff. Poor understaffed breakfast . Dirty rooms. Over priced . Would never even come close to this hotel again defiantly not a 5* hotel
Review 125:Only thing the hotel has going for it is location , saying that Trondheim is tiny and everything is close
Review 126:The room was located on the 8th floor, elevator only reaches the 7th. To get to the room through a labyrinth of corridors and stairs with heavy luggage was tedious to say the least. Use of Spa/Wellness is spiked with hurdles, so one does well to enquire at reception before attempting access.
Review 127:Good location, in the city centre with walking distance to pier, bus station and railway station. Beautiful Spa, once you managed to get in...
Review 128:For a top rated hotel, I find it amazing that the bar is closed on a Sunday and you can't get a cup of tea or a beer at 6pm. Also that the bar closes at 11pm on weekdays. Not good enough for a top hotel.
Review 129:Reception staff friendly and helpful. Good location.
Review 130:The rooms are in need of upgrading; although clean their age is showing.
Review 131:Breakfast in the Palmehaven room. The fact that they now have a nice spa. The extremely central location. The ambience of time past.
