Reviews for Pousada Tropicana

Review 1:Rooms are basic to a 2* standard.

Review 2:This is comfortable accommodation very close to the pier. The reception staff are very friendly and helpful. Thanks to Christine for making us feel so welcome.

Review 3:We got electrocuted by metal handles in the shower, and when we told the owner he didn't even apologise he just said we could change rooms or he would fix it. His fix involved putting tape over the handles, so it's still dangerous. Do not stay here!

Review 4:light fixtures in room were arbitrary and did not allow for comfortable bed reading, the single bed mattress was too hard however double bed was very comfortable. breakfast quite basic e.g. lacked good cereals, eggs or yoghurt which probably would have offered on request

Review 5:we loved this place - fantastic location 50 steps away from pier 50 steps to plaza, right in front of the beach with a lovely view -yet quiet clean rooms in the back with beautiful garden with hammocks. very relaxing homely atmosphere -friendly welcoming staff - Jean Charles had good English, Bruno was very accommodating. we would happily return to this place again- if we could tomorrow.

Review 6:Shower wasn't great but I think that is probably the cast for the island because of the water

Review 7:The Pousada is really easy to find and so centrally located. Breakfast was nice, lots of fruits and staff were friendly.

Review 8:Room was realy small Breakfast wasn't good, at the first day we even didn't find any plate and fork and knife and the warm food was finished and they did not even bother to fill it The hotel was quite expensive and it didn't worth it

Review 9:Hotel is next to the beach Nice cozy area and backyard

Review 10:Couldnt see anyone at the reception the afternoon before our departure, we left a message to inform our early departure the next morning. No one was there in the morning, so we had to leave without paying. Finally it got solve afterward.

Review 11:The place, the owner Gerard and Daughter Carole, very nice and of good advises.

Review 12:The staff here are very friendly and helpful. We had loads of questions about what we could do on the island and they were happy to answer them all. They also arranged a really good boat tour for us and helped us book our transfer back to the mainland. They put on a very good breakfast and the pousada is in a great location, right next to the beach. Internet is only available in the reception area and can be a little slow. But if you're on a Brazilian island, you don't want to be spending all your time on the internet anyway. It really wasn't a problem for us.

Review 13:- wifi only at the front desk and not working (unlike stated) - the minibar was empty and never filled - the bed was no matrimonial bed but made of two individuals beds. - the water was kind of yellowish - you here the noise of all neighbouring rooms - the breakfast was very poor in comparison to what you usually get in Brazil - most of the staff is not Brazilian - you don't get what you pay for (about 120 USD a night)

Review 14:The location is good, central and by the beach. The environment looks nice and the restaurant is good.

Review 15:Loud Air con unit in room Room flooded one night (although we were compensated) Some staff very rude and unhelpful

Review 16:Location is perfect for exploring the island Decent breakfast was included in our rate

Review 17:Staff seemed only to favour one tour company when there are many on the island

Review 18:Colourful, though compact room, with good bathroom and bed. Next door to great restaurant - Jorge Grego - and great to be on the main street and waterfront, yet quiet rooms.

Review 19:I cannot believe people rating this accomodation that high. It needs definitely a full renovation. It is by far not worth the price.

Review 20:Very close to the beach

Review 21:For the first 2 days we had no hot water whatsoever, and then the Internet was also broken for 2 nights of our stay. The staff were friendly but unhelpful, we asked where we should book for NY and the girl, although very nice, didn't know and didn't want to find out for us either. We also had no top sheet on our bed and when asked, they said they had no single ones left and gave us blankets. Also I specified twin beds and they were made up as a double. Lots of exposed wires in the room and a large fridge balanced on a wooden crate. Air conditioning very old and loud. If I wasn't paying as much to stay there I wouldn't mind but the place is over priced for what we received- I don't think just hiking prices up for New Year regardless of facilities is particularly fair.

Review 22:The location is excellent as is the breakfast every day.

Review 23:The appalling receptionist. In fairness, there was more than one and not all were appalling, just the one we were unfortunate enough to come across. She insisted that we hadn't booked with booking.com, she apparently had no record of our name and as she was about to send us off to look for alternative accommodation, the owner intervened to confirm our booking. I appreciate this could just have been a one-off and have a lot to do with the language barrier but we were making our best attempt to speak Portugese (I speak Spanish) and show her the confirmation email on my phone but the (I couldn't care less) attitude of the girl was what would make me reluctant to stay here again. The rooms were adequate although I didn't particularly like the electric cables hanging down over the shower and the safety deposit box was so small it was hardly worth bothering. Overall, had we not encountered this particular member of staff we would probably have had a very different experience.

Review 24:The location The creperie in the breakfast room Cheap caipirinhas

Review 25:The shower was often cold but this seemed to be commonplace in our stay in Brazil. The Wifi is the only thing that brings down our review of this place - we just couldn't get it in the room and kept going off in reception. The hostel should advertise no wifi to avoid disappointment. Aside from Wifi the pousada is well worth a stay.

Review 26:The location is fantastic as you're right on the beach. By far our best breakfast in our travels. The rooms were comfy, well air conditioned, clean, and the balcony was a lovely added touch for us.

Review 27:- room smelled bad - staff was okay - not excellent

Review 28:- location close to the pier - which is extra nice when you have two big suitcases - good breakfast - cute rooms, nicely decorated and comfy - really comfortable mattress

Review 29:Great location for going out in town. Also a nice resturant for dinner and breakfast. Can't beat having the beach about 50yrds away. We only stayed one night here and I was very happy with this location. They even let us keep the room for an extra hr while we finished up a few things in town.

Review 30:Ocean view is pretty minimal, but worth upgrading if you can get the room with balcony/ hammock.

Review 31:Convenient location, lovely gardens, helpful staff, yummy crepes (when open in low season) and good wifi (when the island's internet and power was working)

Review 32:The room and the hotel in general is getting quite old and give a "dark feeling" - no wifi in the room

Review 33:Very well situated in the middle of the village and right on the beach - helpful staff

Review 34:The location has a good value for money and it is really near the boat pier so it was very comfortable to arrive and depart. It is really clean and we loved the breakfast with the fruits, juices and the delicious cakes. If we will ever have the possibility to visit lovely Ilha Grande again we would choose this pousada again.

Review 35:Wifi only works in the lobby.

Review 36:Great location, on the main street for super convenience but tucked away for privacy. Very chill cat always hanging around in lobby to keep you company.

Review 37:high prices around new year's eve noisy AC

Review 38:firendly and knowledegble staff along the sea, in the main part of the island

Review 39:Friendly staff. Great location. Great breakfast.

Review 40:Wifi, I needes to be connected from time to time, impossible

Review 41:The place, room

Review 42:Our room was not the best, window opened right to passageway and room was dark...

Review 43:Location and facilities were nice.

Review 44:The staff were friendly & helpful. Nice clean rooms but the bed was a little hard.

Review 45:Incredibly loud air con and shower gave us mild electric shocks

Review 46:Friendly staff, location was excellent and an amazing experience.

Review 47:The wifi connection was not good

Review 48:In front of the beach and the personnel was very sympathic and helpfull

Review 49:breakfast juices

Review 50:you can't swing with the hammock!!!! ;-(

Review 51:Breakfast was awesome!

Review 52:dark rooms damp not very nice rooms: decoration

Review 53:staff friendliness common area two laptops available snorkeling rental help with tours

Review 54:Room a little dark

Review 55:location quiet great breakfast helpful receptionist good wifi in reception clean

Review 56:breakfast could have had a wider selection. could have had a safe room to lock away bags (but are only small things) Excellent hostel.

Review 57:Bar area and friendliness of staff. Hammocks and relaxing areas were lovely. Close to restaurants, shops, the pier and beaches.

Review 58:Incredibly rude staff: mainly the girl at the reception. Her housekeeping made a mistake yet she tried to frame a guest instead of owning up to it, causing a lot of pain and drama. I told friends who were planning on booking to book another hotel- they gladly agreed. Its a shame since the rest of the staff was wonderful.

Review 59:Leaving....:(

Review 60:We had a room at the front which wasn't too noisy even with World Cup celebrations ...we could drift off listening to the waves. Second Best view ever for breakfast...only to iguassu hotel...and delicious even if we could not name all the fruits. Staff really helpful and friendly...felt like we were with friends watching the opening Brazil match...thank you We WILL be back.

Review 61:When we climbed into bed to have a good night sleep, my wife was surprised to see a stain on the inner sheet of the bed. when had a closer look it turned out to be a blood stain, meaning the sheets were not changed daily. we approached the staff to have it replaced and we received a new clean ones, but left us with a feeling that the place is not sterile. The second thing which is equality bad as the dirty sheets, is the poor Wifi in our room. we were disconnected from the world for almost three days. when roaming around the hostel we were able to catch Wifi on rare events, but it was very disappointing during our stay. Another thing that did bother us is the bathroom construction- the toilet was too close to the door, and the sink is too close to the toilet and we hit our feet or stumbled in the sink multiple times a day, with every usage of the bathroom. the small bathroom issue is considered minor compared to the cold water issue- for the 3 days stay, we had no hot water in the shower. the water was too cold and no shower took more than 5 minutes. we did not enjoy it as expected, and were disappointed in multiple levels.

Review 62:When we first arrived we were amazed by the beauty of the island and the serenity that surrounds the place. The location of Tropicana is quiet great, right beside the beach. The second good thing about Tropicana is the breakfast, in which was rich.

Review 63:- bed was bit small for 2 persons - airco noisy

Review 64:Great location; just a minute away from the pier, restaurants and supermarket. Room was very clean and breakfast superb! Great variety of food and beach view.. Receptionists were very helpful and most of them spoke good english.. Nice atmosphere.

Review 65:Reception desk opens at 8:30am. Early checkouts should be done in the night before your departure (not a big issue)

Review 66:Excellent location, right by the beach, near to restaurants, grocery stores, travel agencies and the docks. The staff is very helpful and did their best to meet the requests I made in the reservation form. They also had great tips for short trips in the island and offered discounts for a travel agency next to the hotel. In the outdoor sitting area, there are a lot of books in many different languages, available for everyone to read, chairs and a nice hammock. The rooms have a good size, a quiet air-conditioner and a clean bathroom. Rooms upstairs (1st floor above the ground) are airy and well lit. It's near to a small stream that flows into the sea, so a strong mosquito repellent is key (not a problem)

Review 67:Only one small problem - the shower was too hot and difficult to adjust!

Review 68:Be sure to ask for room 8! Excellent location right on the harbour front. Friendly staff and a lovely cat! We would definitely stay here again of we were lucky enough to come back.

Review 69:Very convenient location and is right across from the pier for boat trips. Rooms are at the back of the hotel so it is quiet even though the hotel lies on the main street. Staff are helpful and attentive. Breakfast is excellent. Possibly the best pousada in the island!

Review 70:It was cool that they had a tv and DVD player in the lobby, maybe try to start collecting more DVDs ..there wasn't much variety

Review 71:The gardens and hammock Breakfast was great Nice helpful staff -they even let me use their phone to make a call when I was in a bind. Amazing location

Review 72:When we arrived our room door was open with the light on so there were loads of mosquitoes in the room. I spent a while killing them all yet my sister still got about 40 mozzy bites on her leg that night! The communal hammock area was rife for mozzies too. I know this isn't the hostel's fault but it was the only negative we had for the place, otherwise it was lovely.

Review 73:Location is great, right by the beach in the main town. Staff were friendly and English speaking reception. Room was clean and nice bathroom. There was a nice communal area with hammocks where you could relax.

Review 74:The air con was quite noisy

Review 75:Lovely breakfast, helpful staff and fantastic location - in the middle of everything and we could see the sea from our room

Review 76:Can't fault the place.

Review 77:Fantastic location right on the beach and close to the boat pier. Spotlessly clean. Excellent value for money. Lovely grounds and relaxation area. Super friendly staff. I was backpacking with my boyfriend and the room was the same price as a private room in the local hostels and a million times better.

Review 78:would love to have cable in bedroom, some times felt a bit awkward in the main tv area. when it rains, or when relaxing, it would be nice as a non spanish speaker to watch a little tv in room.

Review 79:had a lovely time, the staff were really helpful .

Review 80:Room needs some maintenance work, payment when checking in is not very the warmest way to welcome you to the pousada

Review 81:Perfect location, beautiful garden, breakfast terrace by the sea

Review 82:Had a powerloss after a thunderstorm hit the island, but this is commonfor all hotels on the island. It just means taking a cold shower and nowifi for a day :)

Review 83:The hotel is located only 50 meters from the main dock. The hotel isdirectly in front of the beach and breakfast is served looking out overthe sea. Breakfast is varied, including lots of fresh fruits. The staffspeaks English and is very helpfull. The rooms are nice and clean, including a/c and a refrigerator. Wifi works well.

Review 84:We only stayed for one night but the Pousada is in a perfect location right on the seafront and very close to the pier. Clean and well equipped rooms with a bathroom and some of the rooms have a sea view. Lovely breakfast - the best on our trip. Definitely recommend.

Review 85:Staff very friendly and helpful, rooms very welcoming and nicely styled. One of the most convenient locations on the island next to the docks on abrao and well kept gardens plus relaxed easy breakfast with a lovely view of the bay.

Review 86:Location was great, and breakfast was amazing, in front of the beach, with delicious fruits, cheese, marmelades...

Review 87:Location - right on the beach and close to the port Big room - good value for money

Review 88:Lovely helpful staff. Great location. Enjoyable stay!

Review 95:Location

Review 98:- Great location opposite beach - Friendly and helpful staff - Good value for money

Review 99:Staff very friendly and helpful, great breakfast, and perfect position just 1 min away from the pier.
