Reviews for Hotel aan de Dam

Review 1:Very friendly host, great location in the Center of town, nice building, nice rooms, nice facilities, quiet, no street noise, great breakfast, homely, personal

Review 2:Bathroom was functional but could be modernized.

Review 3:Very friendly staff, large room, good breakfast, bicycles to rent, lots of details to make the stay pleasant: Bose docking station, free mini bar, candles in room and tea and coffee.

Review 4:Nothing, was a great short-stay.

Review 5:Fantastic location, friendly staff, all the details are taken care of (free minibar, nespresso, bose sound system). In-room LP players were a nice touch.

Review 6:Couldn't get free WiFi to work on our android phones, only on tablets. No big issue.

Review 7:Staff were amazing. Nothing was too much trouble. Helped us sort parking every morning. Room was full of character and free beer!

Review 8:The hotel style is not matching ours. The cleaning was not sufficient at all...the layers we're not clean. Ti is a pity if compared to the service and kindness provided

Review 9:The breakfast was great. The position of the hotel is very central with confortable parking places near by.

Review 10:It would be helpful to know in advance that the hotel can provide vouchers for parking meters at a very reduced rate.We only found out after paying a lot before we checked in.

Review 11:It was good to see the historic buildings that had been rebuilt after their destruction in WW2.

Review 12:No lift and steep stairs but staff were helpful with bags

Review 13:Young, friendly staff Clean and tidy with comfortable bed Complementary items So close to centre of town and main shopping strip Beautiful town Lavish breakfast

Review 14:Creating a sitting area in the foyer would make a huge difference. Perhaps one of the downstairs could be transformed to a lounge? the pillows were very hard!

Review 15:Loved the size of the room, the details such as free soft drinks, the record player, the wonderful breakfast and the friendly staff

Review 16:Pillows Far too large and bouncy so couldn't sleep well. Strange thick extra mattress felt as if I was sinking. Could just have been our room.

Review 17:V helpful staff.

Review 18:In the suite the televisionscreen is way too small to watch from bed. Breakfast extreemely slow and "measured". One slice salami pp, one bun pp, and if you ask for more you have time to read the newspaper before it arrives. Otherwise nice and friendly hotel

Review 19:Location at athmosphere hotel

Review 20:Double bed was made out of two single beds - would be a nuisance for travelling couples.

Review 21:Charming interior and spacious rooms, decent breakfast and attentive staff. There was a desk, speakers that you could connect to your laptop, a kettle and a coffee machine in the room - all very nice.

Review 22:The bed was devided in two parts, better change this for a king size bed. The bathroom could have more historic details, equal to the room.

Review 23:The whole hotel and rooms were in style with the history of the building. Very romantic place to stay. A friendy and helpfull staff.

Review 24:Lived in building, proper character, "original" features, very atmospheric, cosy, gezellig. Room overlooked dam plein. Kitchen with refrigerator a super bonus. Shower had 3-directional jets, luxury. Mp3 player dock and super quality radio nice finishing touches. Also Enjoyed record player in breakfast restaurant on which we were able to play Elvis albums! Staff who took care of our room sculpted an armchair out of our towels for my son's comfort bear

Review 25:The stairs up to second floor are steep and narrow. If you are carrying a large or heavy suitcase, ask for help from the staff.

Review 26:Excellent location in a heritage building, beautiful garden and very good breakfast. The two rooms on the ground floor are the oldest. Even if you don't stay there, ask to see them (if possible).

Review 27:Just a bit noisey outside the front of the hotel from the early hours. Nothing you can do about that though.

Review 28:Although booking.com gave you incorrect information, your staff dealt with the situation very professionally and we agreed a happy compromise. Well done. We would love to come back for longer.

Review 29:At time of visit (Aug/Sept 2014) there were roadworks on the quay which made finding it the first it a difficult, but we soon got the hang of it, and it should be easier once the works are finished.

Review 30:Enthusiastic and helpful staff Every room in this historic building is different Location is exceptional - centre of town with parking outside and easy access to restaurants, etc

Review 31:Very good breakfast, large and airy room and bathroom, old fashioned - in the best sense - hotel feel. The manager and his young staff went beyond their duties to help us out when we were unable to get train tickets.

Review 32:Wifi provider did not seem to work properly in the room even after accepting all possible terms and conditions.

Review 33:Great building, lovely location , very kind staff. Nice breakfast , elegant room.

Review 34:Nothing

Review 63:We had a room at the top of the hotel which was very hot

Review 64:Lovely traditional hotel with a pleasant garden, centrally located

Review 65:The staff was so friendly and helpful. The rooms we had were beautiful, and the location perfect. My family lived and worked within a few meters of the hotel several decades ago. It made our stay even more special. The trip was a gift to my mother, and I can't thank the hotel staff enough for making it a very memorable stay. I will definitely recommend Hotel aan de Dam to my friends and family.

Review 70:Can not think of anything.

Review 71:Well maintained historic property. Hearty breakfast. Awesome staff. Excellent location for walking. Convenient parking.

Review 72:shower fancy but (too) complex: well intended but first night we did not even use..... (suggestion: warn that access to bed(s) is somewhat difficult and small: would be a problem with elderly people or those with handicap)

Review 73:very friendly people excellent location nice view on backyard great breakfast

Review 74:Preference would have been a room on a lower floor. Pillows very uncomfortable Duvets too hot No washers for shower gel Very expensive for off season accommodation.

Review 75:Staff very efficient and friendly. Breakfast excellent

Review 76:No lift and one of the two rooms was much less well appointed than the other. Would stay again if choice of room was established in advance, and on the first rather than the second floor

Review 77:Beautiful old house, excellent breakfast

Review 78:The beds were not very comfortable, the pillows far too thick for us, so that I slept on a number of towels - not very comfortable. Shower new and good, washbasin a bit shabby.

Review 79:The location is excellent for visiting Middelburg. Breakfast was good. There is a nice garden, but it was just a bit too cool to sit outside in the morning - a shame.

Review 80:The very spacious room was nicely decorated with an antique furniture. The high ceilings & large windows added to the romantic flair. Wehad a pleasant view of the garden from our room. It was extremely quietbut very central. Staff were great! We will surely come again!

Review 81:The room did get rather hot at night.

Review 83:The hotel is centrally-located. The room was pleasant and comfortable and it had a great shower. The breakfast was pretty good. The staff are very polite, friendly and helpful.

Review 84:Breakfast: could have done with some background classical music, long time to wait for coffee, small amounts in cups. Small room.

Review 85:Very friendly staff. Clean rooms. Beautiful building. Excellent breakfast.Close to city center.

Review 86:The facilities in the room, especially the bathroom were a bit poor;plug in the bathroom broken, shampoo and shower gel bottles were empty. The price (115 euros per night) for a 3 star hotel is a bit high.

Review 87:Good service. Wonderful breakfast. Good location; very central. It'sa beautiful historical building.

Review 88:Ask for a room not on 1st floor. In that case you'll be next to the front door, which means that you'll be hearing everyone coming in and going out. Also at 2 AM... De 'Zeekamer' is adjacent to the cafe next door. First night was okay, second night there was a party. Noisy.

Review 89:Beautifull building, great breakfast. Staff is also nice and friendly.

Review 90:The only thing would be that they should hang a notice downstairsfor guest that are arriving late to be more considerate for theother guests!
