Reviews for Residencial Mares

Review 1:It was not easy to reach by car due to a construction in the area. Breakfast could be better.

Review 2:It is modest but fine! ... location was good! It was very clean and friendly staff.

Review 3:Staff delightfully friendly and helpful. My friend and I (there were 2 of us) could not fault them. The building was typically Portuguese in style, and our room a good size. The shower was great with always lots of hot water. Lovely balcony with great view. Hotel was in a very quiet location but close to all amenities. Breakfast good - plain and simple but the bread was always fresh and delicious. We would stay there again and thought the hotel extremely good value for money. only one thing lacking - a fan in the bathroom to clear the steam.

Review 4:Older building with one bug sighted in the hallway, but otherwise no issues with cleanliness. No view from our room.

Review 5:Nice architectural features; beautiful roof terrace. Great staff who went the extra mile (the young woman at the front desk brought us hot tea with honey for my sore throat!). Close to all sights in the old town. Clean bathroom. Comfortable room. Nice breakfast buffet choices. Great value overall!

Review 6:Went to enjoy New Year's Eve celebrations which we most certainly did. Staff very friendly and helpful.Residencial Mares was old fashioned, but in a very nice way. We found it very comfortable and good value and would certainly recommend. Great trip, would certainly stay again.

Review 7:Super location, lovely old building, lovely view over river.Try to get a room with a balcony at the front of building.V.good restaurant on ground floor.Nice roof terrace...

Review 8:Our bed was rather hard, but for a short stay and given the price, it was fine.

Review 9:Our room was lovely and clean, and Residencial Mares has a rooftop patio where you can see the river, Roman Bridge, and in the other direction are views of the city. Our room had a open patio, a nice spacious shower, clean bathroom and breakfast was included. This property is in a perfect location in the center of town.

Review 10:Location, within walking distance of everything, but quiet and peaceful. Awakening to the small fishing boats either returning or going out to the Atlantic. Just idyllic.

Review 11:Breakfast was included and very good very good value. Took a long time to find so best if u have satnav

Review 12:The hotel was very good and had friendly staff.

Review 13:a small hotel on the river side just 3 minutes from the centre and there is free public parking near by . the staff were helpful and friendly everything in the room was good and a good breakfast too .

Review 14:No elevator, no internet, view to a back street not to the river.

Review 15:The location close to the river is perfect, wish we had had a balcony. Good restaurant in first floor, although we were told it was not part of the hotel so we could not charge it to the room.

Review 16:That we already had to go back home.

Review 17:Super location in the old town near the river. Very friendly and extremely helpful staff (especially Isabel). The breakfast was delicious, varied and plentiful. I would recommend this hotel wholeheartedly.

Review 18:Lack of car parking now that they have 'modernized' the water-front. Walking on the uneven cobbled streets with baggage is difficult on the ankles, especially for the aged and disabled. (We come in both catagories).

Review 19:Helpful attitude of the staff

Review 20:Beds were hard as a rock! And staff, while very nice, weren't really able to answer questions about buses/trains. One person did print out a schedule the last day we were there but overall you can't rely on getting much help. Also we selected a twin bed room on Bookings.com but got there and only a single double was available so difficult to sleep.

Review 21:Location, breakfast, room ...

Review 22:No real bad experience just the beds a bit hard for our liking

Review 23:The location, we had a balcony and could sit in the sun and watch the river the staff very helpful and the breakfast was excellent

Review 24:bed uncomfortable ,breakfast poor only bread jam cheese etc coffee horrible young girls serving miserable unsmiling

Review 25:great position, great staff on front desk air con very good and nice shower ,traditional decor

Review 26:No tea/coffee making facility in room

Review 27:Very good shower. Good balcony for sun . nice location for breakfast looking out on river. Good restaurant A Baraquinha (?) next door

Review 28:We can't find fault with this guesthouse for any reason. Staff are exceptionally helpful & friendly, the room we stayed in was lovely - adequate space, very comfortable bed, good shower, good AC & WiFi. Excellent breakfast too, with option to sit outside and look at the boats on the river over your morning coffee. We would heartily recommend this guesthouse to others.

Review 29:There were black hair on the blanket and the bed was not very comfortable.

Review 30:The balcony was really nice and the shower was very spatious. summing up, the accomodation was ok.The location next to the ferry and to several restaurants is outstanding.

Review 31:- breakfast is a bit disappointing

Review 32:- good location, at the water front - parking nearby (at the market hall) - modern comfort (air-conditioning, mini fridge, shower, ...)

Review 33:No elevator and no assistance with luggage.

Review 34:Very helpful proprietrix - spoke good English and made helpful suggestions for holiday activity and car parking.

Review 35:The air conditioning did not work in one of our rooms and although the engineer replaced the machine it did not benefit us as we only stayed for two nights - they should have noticed this begore we arrived. Meant no sleep for the children as the weather was extemely hot (36 C)

Review 36:The staff were very nice and spoke English as well as other languages. The location was ideal - in the centre of town just by the island ferry boats and two minutes walk from the Roman Bridge and anmphitheatre - street performaces throughout the summer. The rooms all had fridges that worked well. Sauna was available for €7.50 but too hot for that. Restaurants were literally on our doorstep.

Review 37:The bed was not comfortable. The bathroom could do with updating but was clean. The furniture could have done with a duster.

Review 38:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location was great overlooking the river and close to the centre of town. Also close to the boat that transported you to Tavira Island. Lovely fresh clean bedding.

Review 39:We wanted to stay an extra night but the hotel was completely booked out and we had to move on.

Review 40:Staff were very helpful and printed off emails I needed. Staff were very sweet and food and service was wonderful

Review 41:poor breakfast :(

Review 42:very kind and helpful staff; room wasn't big but spacious enough for one night; bathroom was tiled with beautiful ones; hotel is located in cosy townhouse near the river where you can take a ferry to Tavira Island; at the ground floor there is a quite good restaurant;

Review 43:Breakfast could be better... A frigobar would be welcomed. Recommend indicating that the property can't be reached by car as is located at a pedestrian street.

Review 44:Location - very central at a popular pedestrian street (made it difficult to reach by car - had to leave the car at a nearby undergroung parking), beach is a few minutes walking. Very good price for the money.

Review 45:No tea/coffee making facilities in room. Breakfast was basic but adequate.

Review 46:Staff were very helpful. Easy to park nearby. We had a balcony room which looked out over the river, so lovely.

Review 47:nothing

Review 48:All of it. Very clean room. great location. Isabel behind the desk was great and knew everything about the town and gave us lots of recommendations.

Review 49:Very minor point but it would have been nice to have somewhere to hang wet swimwear etc outside on balcony.

Review 50:Location; right by beach boats. Really powerful shower. Room serviced to a high standard daily. Spacious private balcony. Staff helpful and printed off our boarding passes for us.

Review 51:The wifi signal was weak. We had to lug our luggage up two floors because it was an old building with no elevator.

Review 52:We loved the location. It is right on the river within walking distance to everything. The reception staff was very helpful and friendly. The building was very interesting an unique. Great value for our money!

Review 53:Flight - made mistake of going on flight which is used by hen and stag parties! One group was very loud and compromised safety.

Review 54:Weather - great all 4 days. Spent time on beach for 3 days and visited various places of local interest

Review 55:- Room smelt funny (like lacking fresh air) - Short bed - A bit noisy during rush hours

Review 56:- Value for money - Clean - Good location - Descent breakfast for the price - Staff was helpful

Review 57:Bed was painful. Too short for a 6 foot person and too small for 2 people. Restaurant is now independent and charges more than comparable restaurants.

Review 58:Easy walking distance to town. Free on street parking

Review 59:Room was rather small, with no view and very limited storage (room 204). The bed was too small for the mattress, which made for uncomfortable sleeping. Breakfast (which was provided by the restaurant next door) was mundane (although the coffee was excellent)

Review 60:Friendliness and helpfulness of the staff; location of hotel; value for money; great view from the rooftop terrace (which we only discovered on the last day)

Review 61:The room was old fashioned and so badly laid out that moving around required a lot of dexterity. At breakfast the staff were completely expressionless with no intention of being helpful and you had the impression they were watching to make sure you didn't take too much.

Review 62:The best thing to say about it was the position in the centre of town.

Review 63:Not a bad experience, however, the evening meal while excellent was pricey compared to many other establishments in Tavira, E. Algarve.

Review 64:Rare to stay somewhere not requiring suggestions for improvements but Mares is really excellent.

Review 65:No lift, but young man on reception carried my bag up.

Review 66:I chose this hotel for location and price for an overnight stay in Tavira. Great location on the river. Welcoming staff. I paid a little extra for a double room to myself, with balcony overlooking quiet street at the back.

Review 67:Small room with no place for two suitcases. No amenities. Rickety chest of drawers. Cold floor and cold room; finicky toilet flush. Strange smell on first floor. Bed was more like a cot.

Review 68:Excellent location. Free parking close by. Helpful and friendly staff. Balcony off room and top floor terrace.

Review 69:Absolutely nothing.

Review 70:The people who work in the building are friendly and helpful. The hotel just has a really nice feel to it. It is clean, comfortable, and well-equipped. We stayed here 8 years ago, and the place has been well- maintained.

Review 71:Nothing to dislike

Review 72:The location was fantastic overlooking the river, next to the passenger ferry and pretty roman bridge. Very clean hotel and very helpful staff. Would recommend to others and would stay again ourselves

Review 73:The room smelled bad and though we had booked a double bed, they gave us two small beds. There was no decoration and the walls were blank. We avoided staying in the room because we did not at ease there.

Review 74:Good wifi

Review 75:Good value for money , comfortable resedencia, with all that was needed for a comfortable nights stay. Rooms were clean, bed was comfortable and the bathrooms exquisitely decorated with beautiful azuleujos. Staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms at the front of the hotel overlook the river - might be noisy in summer.

Review 76:We never did figure out the heat/AC controller (but didn't need it!)

Review 77:Our room had a big window that looked right out onto the River and the windows opened wide. The rooftop terrace was fantastic the king size bed was comfortable and the bathtub was huge. The staff were very pleasant.

Review 78:Felt like we were a bother at breakfast. There is no lift so if you need or require this its all stairs. Small dark rooms and construction out front that made it not visually attractive place

Review 79:I am sure in the summer months this would be a great location! Great wifi and shower!

Review 80:The location was ideal. Very pleasant lady at reception. When we asked to Change the room for a river view there was no hesitation. Would definitely recommend this place for anyone on a tight budget in this rather expensive town.

Review 81:Unfortunately beyond control of Mares. Tavira Council has removed all parking opposite Residencial. Need to use carpark at end of road. Not easy if find walking difficult.

Review 82:The helpfullness of staff re this. Even volunteered to come and pick us up from whichever carpark might still be opporational next time we visit.

Review 83:Heating system unit did not work ...fine for sleeping , a little chilly in the morning in February.

Review 84:Location, reasonnable breakfast, easy parking in area, view of river. Good value for low $.

Review 85:Damp smell needs sorting then room would be great, has balcony over looking river and private bathroom.

Review 86:Liked the location, liked the balcony and river view, liked the price, liked the staff, liked the breakfast, close to town centre,TV and free Wi-Fi.

Review 87:The hotel is basic. No English channels on the TV. The breakfast was poor. The bar restaurant was closed. Time of the year accounted for this.

Review 88:The owner was a very nice and helpful lady. The rooms are very basic but very clean. Very close to the centre of town.

Review 89:No central heating. No heater in my room. Freezing cold in my room at night. Staff and guests wore coats inside during morning and evening hours. Stay there during the months of April-October.

Review 90:Staff was great and location was amazing.

Review 91:Very basic standard of the diminute room. Apart from the bed, there is very little place for luggage and 2 people. In spite of the excellent location of the hotel, the double room we stayed in was not worth the EUR 60 per night.

Review 92:Very good wifi available in the room. If you choose a room with a view, you get a nice view of the river and the fishermen's boats. Friendly staff ready to answer all your questions about the sights, places to eat, etc. Cleansiness of the facilities.

Review 93:Coffee at breakfast was average for a Latin country. Restaurant was average, waiter had a Cataplana complex.

Review 94:Clean comfortable room with good views and a fully functioning bathroom complete with Azulejo.

Review 95:The noise during the night which came from the road at the back of the property where I slept

Review 96:I liked all the staff and especially Neuza who was on reception duty most nights, and also the kind woman who prepared breakfast and was most helpful. The central location was perfect for those wishing to see the historic town of Tavira

Review 97:staff very helpful. I am pregnant and asked for extra pillows which I got. Nothing was too much trouble including an extra early breakfast the last day of our stay. Lovely fresh bread for breakfast.

Review 98:Mattress was a bit hard; no kettle in room

Review 99:Good location; friendly helpful staff; very clean; very powerful shower with loads hot water; good substantial breakfast with plenty of choice (buffet); good size room; fluffy towels changed daily

Review 100:Difficult to maneuver through one way streets in Tavira.

Review 101:Nice, comfortable hotel with a friendly staff. The room was comfortable and clean. The location is central to everything, within easy walking distances.

Review 102:Can't think of anything.

Review 103:The position overlooking the river was very pleasant. Ideal for a good variety of restaurants. Pleasant breakfast. We have booked to stay a night on our way back to the airport.

Review 104:Too short a stay.

Review 105:Small cozy hotel in the center of the old town right on the river. All attractions within walking distance. The marina next door. Nice, helpful and discreet staff. The restaurant on the ground floor, and many others nearby. Excellent breakfast which can be enjoyed in the open air. For sure I will return there.

Review 106:Beds were hard, and made for uncomfortable sleeping at times. Breakfast was a repetitive choice - adequate but not exciting. No hot food (no sausages/bacon/beans/toast) - boiled eggs were usually cold. There was cold meats/cheese available for those wanting a continental-style breakfast. Bread/cakes choice was good and tasty though! Coffee better than expected too :)

Review 107:Location for us was perfect - central to facilities, restaurants, bars etc. Balcony with view (over the river) was perfect, space to sit outside at night with a drink (room 212). No noise at night from outside. Interior was quaint and authentic, and not a bland hotel style at all. Staff were extremely helpful, and very friendly. The roof-top terrace was ideal for an hour or so to relax on (in between our property-hunting appointments) although the furniture is getting a little old.

Review 108:Nothing!

Review 109:Our bedroom had everything we need for the six day stay. For another ten euros, we would have had a river view. We had lots of closet space to organize our stuff, a table, chair, fridge and mirrors. The quiet hotel gave us quiet nights of sleep. The Mares Restaurant is very good as well. Breakfast was great. The staff were friendly and always willing to help. We will definitely go back there again! The restaurants on the island are fabulous.

Review 110:Bathroom: Door blocks toilet; Toilet seat won't stay up (for guys). Cigarette smoke thruout. Breakfast only marginal. No elevator, you have to lug your heavy suitcases up several floors.

Review 111:Location is fantastic, right next to river and street. Price is good.

Review 112:Its location, almost directly across from the ferry to the Isla, was so very convenient. The Hotel is in very good condition, and the receptionist was so very helpful in every way. The Breakfast Buffet, included in the room price, was complete and always bountiful each morning. To eat outside each morning, was a fabulous way to start the day!

Review 113:Friendliness and helpfulness of staff. Nothing was too much trouble, including finding Monarch Ailines system and printing off our boarding passes. Totally geared up for almost all types of travellers, ages etc. Lots of extras available.

Review 114:Location, friendly staff, good size room, comfy bed, air conditioning, good bathroom and a fridge in the room. Really couldn't fault it in anyway. Would definitely stay here again.

Review 115:I could say the shower was a bit narrow but that would be churlish.

Review 116:The manager and staff were simply very friendly and charming.the rooms were basic but big enough. the mattress was firm and comfortable. hotel situated right on the water front and next to the quay. couldn't be better.

Review 117:We were pleasantly surprised by the friendly staff, fantastic location, comfortable room, and of course the charm of Tavira. Close to the ferry, easy to park, solid Wi-fi, just perfect.

Review 118:Got two single beds instead of one double.

Review 119:Nice staff. Excellent location. Breakfast buffet was good, albeit not excellent. Clean and fresh rooms. French balcony with a view. Really close to the boats. Restaurants everywhere.

Review 120:Would have liked some tea making facilities in my room .

Review 121:Everything.Excellent location, very clean, staff some of the most helpful and pleasant people i have ever met.Breakfasts in the morning very good, eat as much as you like.

Review 122:We had no dislikes

Review 123:We only stayed one night but were impressed by the helpful staff, the quality of the room for the price, free wi Fi, location so close to the town centre but at the quieter end of town.

Review 124:I would have liked a kettle in the room.

Review 125:Friendly, helpful staff. Room had a balcony, which provided some outside space and a fridge. Close to the shops, beach ferry and restaurants.

Review 126:Difficult to find if driving., even with a GPS

Review 127:Location was excellent though a fit difficult to find. Rooms a bit small, but clean. Adjoining restaurant was good. Wi fi available

Review 128:Simple but comfortable room with an ensuite shower room and Juliet balcony overlooking the river. Air conditioning unit worked well to keep the room cool. Breakfast was great and could be eaten outside in the morning sun. Hotel is very close to the pier for the town ferry that takes you to the beach. It is also a short walk along the river to the restaurants in the town centre. Staff were very friendly and spoke excellent English.

Review 129:Great location, close to the town and just across the road from the ferry to the beach. We had a lovely room with a big balcony and big bathroom at the back of the hotel so very quiet. Good selection for breakfast - fruit, bread, eggs meats. The two ladies at reception were particularly helpful. Look forward to a return visit soon.

Review 130:Nothing.....that I booked to stay only one night!!!!

Review 131:Traditional hotel accommodation. Comfortable bed, clean room and en-suite, excellent shower. Roof terrace giving panoramic views of Tavira town and the river. Location.....100m from ferry point for Isle de Tavira beautiful beaches. Adjoining restaurant....excellent local menu. Friendly and efficient staff.

Review 132:The location of Residencial Mares was excellent. So easy to walk into town for shopping and trying some of the lovely restaurants and even easier to walk across to the quay to get the ferry to the beach! We had a very good stay here.

Review 133:That we only stayed one night!

Review 134:Spotlessly clean and very welcoming. Traditional decor with a lovely atmosphere. Location excellent, short walking distance to explore Tavira.
