Reviews for Pedras D'el Rei

Review 1:There should be coffee makers in every appartment/house. That's a minimum, guys! Please heat the house before guest arrival in the winter. The isolation isn't the best, so that's the least you can do. Heat the place around 5 hours before people get there. Please make sure that you leave enough pilows for everybody. When one couple sleep in the living room, it still needs adequate sleeping accessoires... Try to avoid to give a house right next to the main street to a family with small kids/kids. They will thank you. Thank you still for being friendly and trying to make us happy there. You made it! :)

Review 2:The little houses in traditional style are really cute. They are closer to one of the nicest beaches in Algarve as it gets, as right in front of you, you find the natural park of Ria Formosa. The place has everything you need and it's cosy and nice. I fell in live with a cat, that could open our door. :)

Review 3:Villa is very comfortable for 2 persons, still comfortable for 3 but for 4 there might be only just enough space for personal belongings. Hint: asking for electric kettle in reception really works! Ask for one because there is none at the apartment/villa by default.

Review 4:Our third stay there and knowing well all the little nuisances (it is a bit worn out facility) we genuinely love the place! Our villa was located in the first row close to the parking at the waterfront but it proved to be of no problem. This time again a "private" cat appeared and accompanied us as long as we were at home but he didn't enter the house because we asked him not to do so. :-)

Review 5:There are no mosquitos nets for doors or windows. No instructions how to put air condition unit onto heat as was there in Autumn. Maybe just me being dumb!

Review 6:Staff were friendly and any issue were delt with immediately! Would def recommend!

Review 7:Our accommodation was a little tired and whilst clean and tidy, could do with a make over. Also very little soundproofing between appartments, so noisy neighbours unwelcome.

Review 8:Spacious, comfortable accommodation. Close to the fabulous beach, accessed by a free train.

Review 9:The "hotel" is in a beautiful place. Everything is so nice and tidy. The threes and the flowers, palms. Breakfast is fine, "Nora" bar has a lovely terrace. Thanks for everything!!

Review 10:Creepy and horrible place, disgusting old and badly maintained apartments. My first apartment (ground floor) needed two staircases negotiated to access the front door; After refusing to stay in this one, the second had no windows in the bedroom, poor natural light and a postage stamp-sized tv set. Easy to get lost in the place, especially at night, because of poor signs and non-existent illumination plus dangerous obstacles in the way to the front doors. No barriers to slow down traffic so drivers race dangerously. Dogs off the leash apparently tolerated.

Review 11:The staff tried to do its best and arranged a transfer next morning to Pedras da Rainha, after I said I would pay only for the night. Nothing else.

Review 12:The cleaning staff was desultory at best. The beds, as usual, were rock hard.

Review 13:Great location with easy access to the beautiful beach on the nearby barrier island.

Review 14:Nothing wrong with the property. It just wasn't what we were looking for.

Review 15:Quiet small apartment with fairly good facilities. Nice pool and amenities. Would suit families with children rather than oldies like us! It's a very big complex and we didn't realise that when we booked.

Review 16:Where to start...room smelled like mold, bed was super uncomfortable, asked reception to change rooms and wasn't possible yet rooms were available to rent, bathroom smelled like sewage, etc, etc... It's a pity because the beach area was really nice with good facilities (although a little expensive compared to the normal Portugal prices), really friendly staff and a nice sandy beach. We will definately never come back to this hotel nor will we recommend it to anyone...

Review 17:The time spent outside of the apartment.

Review 18:The "aldeamento" hasnt had any major works since the late 80s, it looks. The apartments are too outdated specially the kitchen. There are safety hazards with plugs/ extension hanging. The outside space (garden and patios surrounding the house) wasnt cleanned for the all week we were there. The swiming pool also needs work and was too dirty in some of the days. The cleaning service did not included the kitchen which is ridiculous and wi-fi is only available in the reception. The restaurent food is over priced and of bad quality. Overall the place is very nice but very run down and in need of a bit of investment.

Review 19:The place is beautiful but it's a bit run down and baddly kept.

Review 20:very basic facilities in the house (on arrival no coffee maker, no water kettle etc). This was delivered on request, though. Disappointing at this price.

Review 21:Location

Review 22:The house was old and needing mantainance. The cleaning doesn't happen daily (e.g. Only on weekdays). It's not easy to go to the beach with a baby car

Review 23:The location and the overall space with gerem areas and common services

Review 24:The studio we stayed smells humidity/mould. On the checkin they gave us a map to walk from and to the accommodation, but It was too far from reception, pools and restaurants as we had to walk lost everyday for 15 minutes to have breakfast or do anything. The TV was old, too small and didn't work properly as we had some coloured strips on the middle of the image. There were also just 4 Portuguese channels and I guess 3 more Moroccan channels to watch. There was no internet access on the accommodation. The breakfast was a complete ripoff! We paid €9.50 euros for nothing as there was no variety of food as we would expect for that price. I ended up with a bread with cheese and milk :(

Review 25:The green areas are well maintained.

Review 26:When we booked the stay we booked a double room, when we got there one of the ladies behind reception was very rude and not very helpful and spoke very poor English, after not getting very far with the rude receptionist we spoke to another Portuguese receptionist that was very helpful. She helped us book a trip to the water park and was very informative about the place where we were staying, we was given our keys and off we went to our apartment to find that we hadn't got a double bed we had been given two singles, me and my girlfriend went back to reception to complain where we was told there was only two homes with double beds out of about 400.. In the end we was told we could have a home with a double bed at no extra cost.. It was a little walk into the complex but once we got there the apartment was nice and I think it was in more of a residents/ for locals part of the complex which me and my girlfriend didn't mind, we hid our money when we went to the waterpark when we got back we was sure some money had been taken all in all about 50-100 euros we didn't complain because there's not a lot that can be done once this happens.. We never got told we would have cleaners so I was rather annoyed especially after we had payed alot of money to stay here, we only stayed at pedras D'el Rei for two nights beens we had an apartment in Cabanas in the end we enjoyed our stay,

Review 27:It was a nice little village in a nice location kind of out the way, with it's own beach that you get to by train which takes about 5 minutes, there was a nice big swimming pool with a decent games area with pool tables, nice bar and a lovely restaurant which was abit pricey but nice

Review 28:Bit pricey at the restaurant

Review 29:The location was perfect and the apartment was exactly what we needed , friendly staff and great pool area for chilling out by .

Review 30:The beach was too far away, the coffee there was expensive. There was no electric kettle for boiling water. We didn't expect to see mud flats.

Review 31:We like the accommodation especially the terrace for sitting outside. We liked having different options for eating and drinking and also the Supermarket.

Review 32:Although we already knew that the houses were modest, we didn'texpect to find it that modest. The house was for 6 pax. There were only6 plates. We would have to be washing plates in the middle of a meal(kids ate first). No table cloth. With such a beautiful green spacesaround, and lovely weather, personally I would have loved to do someBBQing. Matresses need replacing also. Also there was supposed to behousekeeping everyday, but nobody showed up on 2 days and on another daythey only made some beds!!! The others were forgotten. Too much moneyfor this experience.

Review 33:Kids loved the Beach, the Pool and taking the train ride to the Beach.Lovely green gardens.

Review 34:Room needed to be updated. We stayed at Pedras 28 years ago and guest accommodation doesn't seem to have changed since then. By today's standards expensive for type of accommodation offered.

Review 35:Location excellent with good bus connection to tavira. Very pleasant public areas, family orientated, relaxed atmosphere.

Review 36:Be aware that if you want to get around and explore the local area, or to head into Tavira of an evening, having a car is a definite advantage.

Review 37:Although the property is old, the apartment we stayed in was freshly renovated. Access to the beach here is across sand dunes, which is about a 15 min walk, but there is a train, which kids love - it makes it all a bit of an adventure. The local village, Santa Luzia has loads of restaurants. Complementary bottle of wine delivered to our room on my birthday was a thoughtful touch.

Review 38:Kitchen had little equipment for cooking. Also no cloth, sponge or detergent. I think this is a common practice. Very weird for us.

Review 39:Nice comfy space, large outside area with billiard table and also a swimming pool. Not too clean, but understandable during low season.

Review 40:Studio apartment was very dated, with poor design. Bizarre sliding doors, that meant if you wanted to get into bedroom, you could not open the fridge! Heating was not sufficient, very cold at not, another heater was supplied, which helped. A coat of paint on outside of villas would give a much better impression.

Review 41:Nicely laid out site, good location, opposite lovely beach. Nice walk along to Santa Luzia. Good access for buses to most places, Tavira, Faro etc

Review 42:All the buildings could do with a good clean and a coat of white paint.

Review 43:We stayed in nice clean basic, comfortable accommodation. Great pillows which is rare. There's lots of different apartments here but we were in a 1 bed on 1st floor with balcony. Nice food in restaurant but not cheap. There's a cafe option with burgers etc too. Nice modern bar. Didn't use pool as stayed in winter for only 1 night but looked nice. Helpful staff. Lovely beach a free mini train ride away.

Review 44:Well, maybe using the sliding doors in our apartment was a bit of a nuisance but... not really a problem. Bring your own dishwashing cloth and fluid. Or... buy them at the nearby supermarket ;-)

Review 45:This time we were in November, last year in March. Very quiet and green place inhabited by numerous charming cats. Well supplied supermarket with reasonable prices on the premises and abundance of Nature to walk on the ocean side. We could even see Atlantic itself behind Ilha do Barril island from our balcony!

Review 46:Two single beds in the apartment (although this was mentioned in the ad, before we booked). We pushed them together and the housekeepers didn't separate them, which was nice.

Review 47:Wonderful staff - really helpful and friendly. Great miniature train to the beautiful beach. Lovely balcony. Not horrendously busy (we went in October). Highly recommended.

Review 48:Mosquitos, villa surroundings a bit tatty

Review 49:Friendly efficient staff - printed off my Ryan Air return boarding cards no problem, extended check out time (quiet season), very handy for Barril Beach, (free train for resort customers)

Review 50:Room was very "tired" and in need of much renovation/decoration - especially shower/bathroom. No hot water on first night/next morning.

Review 51:Location and grounds

Review 52:Minor gripe as we've been 3 or 4 times and we'll come back. Remember to ask for a kettle at reception, the Portugese don't use them normally. m/wave and toaster leads not long enough to plug in unless on floor or on the dining table.

Review 53:Barrill beach is 8 miles long and ony 15 mins walk from the complex. Shop and restaurant, so no need for a car unless you want to sight see. Rustic charm in the apartment which hasn't really changed in decades.

Review 54:Very poor accommodation. Lumpy beds, lack of kitchen equipment, old furniture. Cleanliness poor. They realy need to modernise all the accommodation. We have stayed in far superior places for half the price.

Review 55:Location very good, facilities good, staff very helpful.

Review 56:Bungalows are a bit old including furniture but if you are not too fancy this is a good place to stay

Review 57:Simple Bungalows but with plenty of quiet, nature and green around them. Easy to relax and enjoy.

Review 58:* location * peace * proximity to the beach * safety of the ground for pets * all facilities being available in November * restaurants in St. Lucia 3 min away from the location

Review 59:the only fault was not enough kitchen utencils,ie, bowls, a whisk, salad bowl ect. not enough of a problem to put us off going there again.

Review 60:the apartment was looking out towards the beach, a lovely spot, have stayed at Pedras D'el Rei before and liked it very much but as there were four of us this time the bigger apartment was ideal, we will go back again as soon as we can.

Review 61:the fact that they couldn't loan the beach train cards or the hair dryer without us showing our credit card and them making a note of the deposit on that card for each item. every time we went to the desk we needed to have our credit card to get any kind of service. even though we used the same card for everything.

Review 62:location and cost, which are the biggest thing for me

Review 63:The accommodation is very poor for the price. Some of the apartments ( villas) have been renovated, but most have not. Lumpy beds, old wooden tables and chairs. Kitchen very poorly kitted out. Cheap and nasty outside furniture. At over 80 Euros / night just for 2 people it is very poor quality. The site is over 30 years old now, and unless they start to make some improvements to the villas, people wont return. Its a pity, because we have been coming for a number of years and love the area, but there are now much better places available now for the same money.

Review 64:Very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent location for beach, and set in nice gardens. Good pool area, restaurant, bars and shop. Very good for all ages, and central for exploring the area. Peaceful location.

Review 65:Enourmous complex, our original villa was up up up a hill a long way from pool, beach, or on site facilities. Very basic if you have travelled by plane. Most suited to locals who can carry equipment with them. Description needs to advise that accommodation may be uphill, and that in some cases a lot of steps are involved to access the accommodation. Disappointing.

Review 66:Located beside Barril Beach, which is reached by a mini train track. Guests enjoy a free train pass to ride to Beach. Facilities on Barril Beach are excellent.. Friendly staff. Reception staff very helpful. I had a problem as unable to access steps easily, accommodation was changed the following day. Facilities: onsite supermarket, bar and restaurant. Food in Restaurant good.

Review 67:Internet only in reception area

Review 68:good place to stay villas are set apart with good areas of lawn to sit at the back .quite and relaxing. Good eating restaurant in the fishing village next door and train down to the beach. Tavira interesting place to visit more than once

Review 69:What we did not like were the cockroages in the bedroom. Fout big cockroages we killed. We think that they should be better in cleaning so that these dirty animals do not enter the rooms. Also we would like to jave an airconditioning or fan in the room because sleeping is very warm.

Review 70:We liked the situation where it is and the lands ape aroind it. Also the beach and the beautifull green grass and plants the park is in. Everything is well looked after.

Review 71:the swimming pool is too small for the size of the resort and tall people may find the beds too short (not my case...)

Review 72:Location, the beach, the resort, the houses

Review 73:The houses are not well taken care And there are a few problems with the kitchen (small fridge and no microwave) and no air-conditioner

Review 74:Very good location and surroundings Good weather and a lot of green

Review 75:1.The narrow steps leading up to our unit and was quit risky carrying our luggage up the steps especially in the dark. 2. There was no electric kettle for boiling water to make coffee/tea, and it had to be requested. I would think this a very basic kitchen appliance since there was a toaster and even utensils to do baking. 3. The housekeeping was done about 5pm in the evening which was a bit inconvenient since that's when we got back from the beach and needed to use the shower etc. 4. The gel/shampoo and toilet paper were running out but the housekeepers had to be told to refill them. 5. The reception staff do not smile. They act very mechanical when dealing with guests.

Review 76:1.The spread of the complex and sufficient parking spaces. 2.The surrounds - lawn, pathways are well kept.

Review 77:- Bungalow we were given was too old and needs being refurbished! Even though the place was clean, it was way too basic for the price we paid. Overall, very uncomfortable place. There were no real beds but a cement base with a mattress on top! I've slept better in third world countries and for €170/night I was expecting a lot better! - Swimming pool was too small and full of kids, like sardines in a tin. The swimming pool/restaurant area was infested with mosquitoes and made going there at night a big no no!

Review 78:- Staff: nice and helpful; - Location: near the beach and the river; - Nice food at the restaurants in the nearby village.

Review 79:In some days, Zumba class with loud music so close to the pool.

Review 80:Very Green and spacious. The old olive trees (some with many centuries of life) are remarkable. Location is great, the old train service to the beach is a must Pool is very nice.

Review 81:Twin beds, no double. Resort cafe food hit and miss.

Review 82:Quiet, green resort in east Algarve, not a high rise in sight. Perhaps best compliment is that it was 95% Portuguese families. 10 min walk to a beautiful sandy beach Bar, shops have what you need. Roomy enough apartment. Resort restaurant food was good.

Review 83:Neighbouring apartment having bathroom refit caused drilling noises from 9:10 am : 10pm for 3 days Symapthetic cleaners who were equally appalled at neighbour's bathroom activities. Whole place needs either demolishing/refurbishing or turning into a museum showing how people used to have holidays in the 1970s. Black old fashioned furniture is clunky and dysfunctional; cramped kitchen with saucepans stored on top of cupboards - you are 2m tall aren't you? Cockroach colony living behind doorframe in the bathroom and ants pretty much everywhere else, even in the bed at times Bathroom floor so old and eroded that there was more cement than tiles left in places. Caged birds kept in concrete pen treated as attraction is not acceptable in 21st century. On site restaurant is expensive, of mediocre quality and inefficiently run - try the nearby St Luzia for far better food (excluding the Tapas bar though) Road markings and signage is terrible and difficult to know what is a parking and what is the road in the village which probably explains why every car has a dent in it. Internet only in reception which is long way from apartment.

Review 84:Staff in Bar Nora were efficient and friendly.

Review 85:I have been coming here for over 30 years. A more peaceful, unpretentious place you will not in the eastern Algarve. Staff are kind and efficient. The nearby beaches are clean and quiet. You can't go wrong if you come here!.

Review 86:I loved how environmentally friendly the facility is, with all the possibilities to recycle and to rent bikes and live eco-friendly. I really felt in contact with nature, woke up with birds singing and went to the beautiful beach passing by fantastic views of the village gardens, flowers and surrounding wetlands. Really appreciated all the benefits of the facility, the well kept gardens and the convenience of the train that brings to the beach. Loved also the bar and the tennis court, just 5 euro per hour! Very very beautiful and relaxing.

Review 87:Noise from construction, no view of ocean from room, small terrace, no windows, bedroom open to Living room

Review 88:Location, style, kitchen

Review 89:TV did not work, shower get stuck, hot water just available for short time, fridge was with food from others guest, bed separated.

Review 90:The complex

Review 91:Lack of internet

Review 92:We blew the electrics in our house and they gave us a new one within 20mins. Staff are friendly and excursions are cheap through reception.
