Reviews for Pousada Convento de Tavira
Review 1:One evening meal (out of two taken) not properly cooked - disdainful response from the waitress and no apology. We ate out every night following.
Review 2:Excellent hotel in a lovely town.
Review 3:The hotel is not easy to find.
Review 4:We really enjoyed our stay. The staff members were courteous and helpful. The facility is beautiful and clean and well located for walkers. The breakfast is the best in Europe. Carlos and Tiago should be employees of the year.
Review 5:We went for Christmas.not a good idea.tavira was like a ghost town christmas lunch at the hotel consisted of octopus or goat with turnip tops and rice with giblets mmmmm yummy!.only catered for the Portuguese of which there were 2 staying in the hotel, quite gloomy in the bar, dining room devoid of any kind of Christmas decoration.would not go there for Christmas again, but could possibly stay there for bed and breakfast only and in the summer
Review 6:The kid roast for Christmas dinner was regional but could have used a bit of spice, was bland, chewy and Dificult to eat.
Review 7:The breakfast each morning was fantastic..well done!
Review 8:Cigararette smoke from people sitting in the courtyard wafted into the breakfast room.
Review 9:The historic building giving a feeling of peace and tranquility.
Review 10:The dog that seemed to bark continuously outside when we were sitting round the pool!
Review 11:Loved the history of the buildings, and the peaceful ambience. Staff could not have been more helpful.
Review 12:There is no Jug kettle in the room. When it is raining outside and really cold, you would like to have a cup of hot tea in the cozy room. Or you may wake up at 5:00 am and would like to have a cup of hot tea before the breakfast (the breakfast is 8:00 am). I missed the jug kettle so much that I eventually bought one when I was there. I think such a nice hotel like this one should have a jug kettle for each room, not as a privilege of the suite room.
Review 13:Almost perfect! Quiet, safe, nice staff, good location.
Review 14:Some breakfast items that should be hot, were barely warm. Bacon barely cooked. Wifi weak in bedroom. Aircon ineffective.
Review 15:All staff, without exception were outstandingly friendly and accommodating.
Review 16:The swimming pool water is kept "chilled." Often the room is not made up until very late afternoon ie 4.30. which makes having a siesta difficult without interruptions.
Review 17:Magic place for a restful holiday, with a brilliant location. The staff all speak english and are very helpful - nothing is too much trouble.
Review 18:Could be a few more pictures on the walls?. Bit bare in places
Review 19:Lovely building but friendliness of the staff made the hotel in our view. All were really nice and very helpful. Pool area was great and location perfect for the town.
Review 20:Just thought the place had a lovely tranquil and friendly apmostphere. Located just a short walk away from the town square where all the bars, shops and restaurants were. More suited to couples rather than families.
Review 21:Unable to fault this hotel!
Review 22:If you have read other reviews of this hotel you will have seen how often they get praised for the quality of their staff and this praise is really well deserved. The staff are all consistent in their caring approach and I must say that the attention to detail in the preparation of the staff must be so precise as all the staff we talked to are of the same high calibre - polite, friendly and most of all....Smiling! Just lovely! The hotel is in a beautiful restored convent which has been tastefully renovated with a modern extension. The interior courtyard is a super area to have breakfast and the swimming pool area is very nice as well. Well equipped and nicely decorated rooms completes the picture. Good value for money even though it is not the cheapest - worth paying a bit more for quality!
Review 23:Nothing
Review 24:Very attentive and friendly staff, very quiet location but close to town. Pool area very tranquil and relaxing. Lovely breakfasts with sparkling wine - a very classy place.
Review 25:Would .liked to have dined in for dinner but bad reviews and lack of people in dining room ,we decided to dine elsewhere.
Review 26:Whole experience,friendly staff.
Review 27:Having to nominate a member of Staff as 'Employee of the Month'....They were all great!
Review 28:The Staff were exceptionally helpful, friendly and professional. Our restaurant meal was a delight, but we were glad that we just had a meal at the weekend as the restaurant seemed quite empty and lacking in atmosphere thereafter.
Review 29:The convent has been really well transformed while keeping a very authentic feel. All the staff were truly helpful and enjoyed their job.A wonderful peaceful escape.
Review 30:Breakfast could have been better for quality of hotel, and bar area lacks atmosphere and staff.
Review 31:Quality surroundings, excellent staff, and great location, unless you can't cope with the climb.
Review 32:My note of caution is that Tavira is basically shut down on Sundays---attractions, bike rentals, many restaurants, and even churches!
Review 33:The hotel is charming and is located within easy walking distance of any attractions. The rooms are somewhat small but that might be expected from a historical property. The breakfast buffet was typical. The staff was ok.
Review 34:Nothing.
Review 35:The converted convent was very grand, friendly staff, very clean everywhere. The hotel was 5mins walk to the centre of Tavira with its wonderful restaurants, walks by the river, churches etc. What more can you ask for.
Review 36:it was great to walk to all parts of town. beauty was the order of the day,,,even the parking lot was the best looking I've ever been in. The restaurant and breakfast room were top notch and the staff was willing to help in all situations. We really appreciated their assistance.
Review 37:Our dinner in the hotel restaurant was not very good for a hotel of this. Calibre. Would recommend going out for dinners although. The breakfasts were plentiful and delicious.
Review 38:The staff wea wondeful, helpful and accommating. The rooms were spacious, and the view of the hotel gardens and the town of Tavira were added bonus.
Review 39:No parasols in the outdoor areas to cater for the high temperatures. Would have stayed to have drinks by the pool had there been shade.
Review 40:Great ambience in superb location. Staff very helpful truly a stylish hotel to relax and unwind.
Review 41:Loved everything from the moment we arrived until we left a week later. The hotel is a beautiful old building, (you must visit their museum below the bar). Our rooms were at the back with not much view but with great private balconies and they were extremely quiet and comfortable, as is the . whole hotel. All the staff are friendly and efficient and extremely helpful. The situation is excellent , being so quiet but within easy reach ofeverything in town. I have stayed n Tavira before but this is by far the best hotel in all ways.
Review 42:Car access is limited to narrow cobbled streets. If arriving late by car get good directions before setting out.
Review 43:Great value (out of season) did all we wanted, the staff were excellent and very helpful. Situated well for access to town. Very pretty with all the cobbled streets.
Review 44:The beautiful setting of Pousada and Tavira town. The islands and fishing ports. Clean and welcoming and everything you want for a relaxing stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It was in easy reach of sea, mountains and rivers.
Review 45:The reception lady acceded to our request for a double bed as a favor while it was readily available. Strange. The other members of the staff were perfect.
Review 46:General atmosphere, elegance of the space, interior design, furniture. Perfect breakfast, simple but excellent
Review 47:Curtain in the shower. Because of the time of the year they were rather short staffed and they were having to double up.
Review 48:Staff, especially Fernando, who went out of their way to please. The food was also very good.
Review 49:Everything about this hotel was just right, the lovely staff, the comfortable rooms, the breakfast, the wi-fi in the rooms and the (free) on site car-park. Oh, and the location, right in the heart of Tavira but off any main road and so quiet.
Review 50:Food is dissappointing.
Review 51:Beautiful Hotel quietly positioned on highest spot of Tavira. Easy walk to town center. Fabulous pool garden w. old wall. Varied good breakfast. Very friendly personnel. At spa: Sandra does the best sports back massage!
Review 52:Beds are always a bit hard in Portugal(for us northerners) It was a bit difficult to raise the temperature in the room.
Review 53:You are treated royally. The building is really awesome, spotless and atmospheric/historic.
Review 54:There were no tea/coffee making facilities in the room although we were told when we were checking out that we could have asked for them! Breakfast was not exciting but adequate. Make sure you tell waitress you want meal deal or they will charge full price for each item.
Review 55:We stayed one night in November 2014. The ambience is calm and relaxing. Staff were excellent. The location is very good enabling those physically active to explore the town on both sides of the river.
Review 56:We thourghly enjoyed our stay here. The building is in a great location, far enough away from the town, so you are not effected by noise, but just a short walk to the Town, which has a great selection of Bars & Restaurants. Nice swimming pool with plenty of sunbeds and comfortable spacious rooms. We had a very good buffet breakfast each morning. We would deffinatley return here.
Review 57:Musak in some public areas. Not needed, the building itself exudes character! If there must be some, please let it be traditional Portuguese and in keeping with the history of the convent.
Review 58:Reception staff - lovely, pool - tranquil and restful
Review 59:Wonderful conversion of an old convent. Very friendly and helpful staff; couldn't do enough for their guests. Free parking and very central location.
Review 60:Muzak in the cloister - it's a bit bland and international for a building of such historical interest.
Review 61:Lovely location, excellent and welcoming staff.
Review 62:Decoration very poor (amateur ugly paintings everywhere) unexperienced staff, with limited english level; Swimming pool was dirty (and crowded); breakfast very limited. Average beds amd confort (TV was an antique!)
Review 63:Building is beautiful (too bad for the decoration inside) Location (walking distance from downtown)
Review 64:Beds were really sub-standard: two twins were hard, separated, we couldn't sleep together for 9 days! A real negative for a couple in love. The discount system for a Pousada member is awkward to use and forces the member to have the card at every meal or snack to take advantage of the benefit. Poor implementation. Discounts should be automatic.
Review 65:Breakfast buffet Pool area Ruins Quiet Location WiFi (that works) much better than 2 yrs. ago
Review 66:Breakfast could be improved with better cereals .
Review 67:Beautiful building in good location with excellent friendly staff on reception notably Alex . Pool is excellent with plenty of loungers and shade to enjoy .
Review 68:Historic property converted into a beautiful hotel. Spacious, lovely room. Gorgeous pool area. We are generally hesitant to eat in hotel restaurants, but our dinner was fantastic. Some of the best food we had in Portugal. Spa prices are quite reasonable. Staff was gracious and helpful.
Review 69:rather 'stuffy'. very quiet and serious of itself and a hard sell was done at reception when we arrived for a 1 night stay. Our room was ok - good big bathroom but wouldn't have wanted another night in ti.
Review 70:can walk out of hotel and are close to bars/restaurants for evening entertainment
Review 71:Liked everything and would definitely return or rrecommend to others!
Review 72:Front desk service was friendly and very helpful. Excellent breakfast with a very good selection ( loved the pumpkin jam). Swimming was a great treat to cool down after a hot day of touring. Free parking was appreciated!
Review 73:The Pousada has a calm, relaxing atmosphere which enables you to unwind the minute you arrive. The staff are friendly, helpful and polite. Breakfast in the Cloisters has to be the best way to start the day. The hotel is located not far from the restaurants, shops and bars and is in walking distance to the ferry which takes you out to the "Island".
Review 74:There seems to be a lack of urgency to fix or replace broken or faulty equipment.. Eg only 5 umbrellas around the pool, no toaster at breakfast? Although breakfast is adequate it is very repetitive with no variation and for those dining later it can be limited in what is left!
Review 75:Staff are excellent, a credit to the hotel and many have been there for many years. The location is perfect and just a few minutes walk to the centre of Tavira. The building is stunning and a nice mix of old and new. The rooms are comfortable, well air conditioned and a good size.
Review 76:The staff were extremely friendly and helpful.
Review 77:Beautiful hotel in historic setting. An honor to take part of it - if only for a short stay.
