Reviews for Fletcher Hotel Restaurant Du Commerce

Review 1:It is very noisy, you can hear everything your neighbors are doing, and they were having a lot of fun. I couldn't sleep because of that.

Review 2:The staff was friendly.

Review 3:Bathroom is rather old (except taps). Mattress on the bed was not too good. Some reconstruction would be necessary, e.g. wallpapers have some casulties.

Review 4:Old fashioned building, made from (partially?) wood, very cosy - I like these type of bulidings. Lower levels (1-2-3) have quite high ceilings, unfortunately we got a room at 4. Breakfast was very good, not too many kind of foods, but enough. Wifi worked excellent, even in the Italian restaurant on the other side of the street.

Review 5:Old building, no upgrades for years; Poor sound insulation (can hear conversation in next room); Window can't close; Room very small (no space to put suitcase on the floor - have to out it on the bed - have to sit on the bed to work at the desk (no space for a chair between bed and desk) Cannot cancel cancellation or terminate stay early - still have to pay in full.

Review 6:Staff - friendly, readiness to help and prompt to respond - this is the only saving grace.

Review 7:The room looked old, dirty and smelt fusty. It is all in need of modernisation. The stairs are steep and thread bare at the edges. The lift is too small and uncomfortable to use

Review 8:It was central

Review 9:The hotel needs to 'freshen up'. Perhaps new carpets and furniture. The shower had no shower curtain, the water pressure was non-existent. The room was dark, dinghy and non-inviting! But for a lower price we would stay there again.

Review 10:The staff were friendly and the location was excellent. The breakfast was good but I missed fresh vegetables. The family room was a good size.

Review 13:At the end of our stay, relatives asked us to spend the night with them in Eindhoven. As we were to be with them all evening, it was more convenient for trains and timing. Still paid for the last night at the hotel. Other than that, I always enjoy my stay at this hotel and would again, but my son has moved to Belgium!!~

Review 14:The breakfasts are phenomenal. So close to the train station and downtown---so very convenient!!!

Review 15:The room was really noisy, you could hear everything from the outside. Earplugs are a must! Hotel is old and really worn, dont expect luxury. The breakfast room was crowded.

Review 16:Nothing to complain about cleanliness in general even though the hotel is old and worn. Room was really spacious (comfort room). Breakfast was nice and relatively versatile.

Review 17:Room could not be ventilated enough. Also as the hotel has removed the shades/awning from the front windows and the windows are sealed shut, leaving the veranda doors as the only way to ventilate the rooms on the first floor, which can't be left opened when you leave the room.

Review 18:Location of hotel was good

Review 19:80 Euros for a double room per night is too much given the quality and standard of the rooms (the hotel has clearly seen better days)

Review 20:4 minutes walk to the Train Station and 5 minutes to the historic City center

Review 21:In contrast to other hotels with single rooms nearly always at the back of the hotel this one was at the front overlooking the canal. Staff went over and above tobe helpful, the addition of bitterbollen with drinks was a nice gesture and the three course dinner was to die for - award winning in taste and presentation

Review 22:The room I got was a economy single the price was 71 Euros I have seen larger shoe cupboards. I could touch both walls with out stretched arms. And the single bed sunk where people had sat to be at the small desk

Review 23:Staff were friendly

Review 24:Bed was very very soft and had only one blanket. Could not get the WiFi to work. We stayed only a couple of hours for one sleepover so I did not bother to ask for help. For us, this is NOT a negative on the hotel! I am confident, had I asked I would have been helped!

Review 25:Great breakfast, excellent price offered. Very happy we chose this hotel and coming back any time!

Review 26:The room was old (but clean), no key for the toilet, no "do not disturb" tag. Last night we found a bug in the room (maybe it came from outside, because we left the window open as it was very hot during the day).

Review 27:The wifi worked fine, the staff was ok, breakfast was good, and the location is convenient. The cleaning service was ok.

Review 28:The room was very small but had lovely tall windows. It needs re-painting and deep cleaning to remove wallpaper marks etc. The shower room was tiny - but everything worked ! A bit of modernisation needed please.

Review 29:I wanted to stay very near the railway station but be quiet enough to sleep well. It was perfect - most people go to work or school on bicycles so there was very little car or lorry noise at any time of day. The staff were very helpful and pleasant. The food in the restaurant was excellent and good value.

Review 30:Nothing to dislike. But if you are looking for 5 star decor and amenities, this would not be for you. But if you want convenience, cleanliness, friendliness, comfy bed, good breakfast, affordable, then this hotel is perfect.

Review 31:Nice & close to the station, only had to cross the canal with suitcases in tow. Very helpful friendly staff. 5 minute walk to centre of Town. Breakfast included in the price. Had a view of the canal. Was in town visiting my daughter at Uni, so this hotel was perfect for me and what I was looking for.

Review 32:I was surprised to learn that this part of a chain. The whole building needs refurbishing as some of the furniture etc and decoration looks a little tired.

Review 33:Great location opposite train station, the staff are warm and friendly and there is a good bar/cafe attached to the hotel.

Review 34:Very slow elevator Pungent smell of canal at night

Review 35:Full English breakfast Polite staff Huge bike shop , railway station and a triving historic town centre, all there in a few metres. Good cycle facilities.

Review 36:Hotel services and fittings not up to standard, everything is very old and not really good enough at this level of pricing.

Review 37:Location was very good and staff were fine

Review 38:Room was very small, but you can find everything in there

Review 39:The location of hotel is good

Review 40:Out dated, needs a refurbished.

Review 41:The hotel desperately needs an overhaul.

Review 42:Very closely located to the railway station and the courthouse.

Review 43:tired rooms and decor

Review 44:location

Review 45:Beds too soft and sheets a bit stale, staff none too friendly

Review 46:Excellent breakfast, nice location

Review 47:the smell of old carpets in the room

Review 48:the personeel

Review 49:The room was impossibly small as a double would have been fine as a single.

Review 50:I felt inside a coffin. I'm not sure this was meant to be a room.

Review 51:Friendly staff.

Review 52:Worn-Out Furniture Damaged\Worn-out State of Room Noise insulation Small Rooms

Review 53:Staff Breakfast Location (near center and train station)

Review 54:The light in the toilet is broken : (

Review 55:Breakfast is good : )

Review 56:Very poor quality Hotel in bad need of refurbishment.

Review 57:Proximity to the railway station and city centre, friendly helpful staff and amazing value for money three course dinner

Review 58:Oud Hotel update nodig

Review 59:Locatie

Review 60:Room was small. Noisy. Could hear the people in the next room talk.

Review 61:Near the center ofvthe town.

Review 62:- Worn out facility - Bathroom: too windy, windows had wide slits - Bed comfort bad (dimple in the middle)

Review 63:- Not expensive - Breakfast reasonable

Review 64:Could hear the room above me

Review 65:Location was great. Directly opposite the train station. Staff were extremely polite and helpful.

Review 66:Cleanliness of Middelburg

Review 67:location breakfast is okay

Review 68:Central location Tidy clean room with ensuite

Review 69:Hotel is outdated and needs a makeover. Old bathroom. Only 1 out of 4 beds had a light switch.

Review 70:Friendly personnel. Good location near to city center.

Review 71:Our first room had a smell and next morning there was sewage practically filling the shower tray. We complained and were quickly moved to another room where after about 30 mins later we discovered water dripping through the corridor ceiling. Stains showed that this was not abnormal. This hotel has serious plumbing problems. No reduction was forthcoming and our note of complaint to the company has gone unanswered

Review 72:The staff, friendly and obliging

Review 73:There was much not to like, given that we paid around €260 for two nights for the room. A very small and basic room with a small double bed with a poor quality mattress, tired décor, blocked washbasin drain, broken toilet seat, tricky shower mixer tap. Poor sound insulation (we enjoyed our neighbour's snoring to the full). Hugely over-priced.

Review 74:The location. Not far from the town centre, and near the train station. Staff nice, but not able to make up for the hotel's fundamental shortcomings. Breakfast OK.

Review 75:Slight smell of drains in the bedroom. Needs checking out.

Review 76:We often visit Middelburg, and your location opposite the station is great for us. Good breakfast choice, good selection in the bar. Always useful to be able to leave the luggage with the hotel before room is ready, and after checking out. Quick repsonse to my query about the few small items I left at the hotel.

Review 77:No other way to cool the room down except opening the large window that would have given anyone with access to the fire escape, access to the room. Karne Melk at breakfast. Noise from other rooms.

Review 78:Excellent location. Clean. Value for money. Twin bed meant twin bed.

Review 79:Rooms all in need of date. Stained carpets and general air of aging poorly. Arrived 3/4 hour early and firmly told no access to room until 3. Travel plans changed but still had to pay for 2nd night even tho told them on arrival. In front room with view over street. Damaged awning outside window flapped all night loudly. Little street noise but only because road closed due to repairs.

Review 80:Location. Bed and all linen clean and fresh

Review 81:I spend with my family two terrible nights in the Fletcher Hotel Du Commerce Middelburg. The rooms where dirty broken and unacceptable. We arrived on Thursday evening and got room 102. The room was in very bad conditions and it was not possible to close the door to the balcony. The room was dirty and the furniture in very bad conditions. The walls broken and when our neighbors in the room of the second floor where walking we believed the lamp would fell down. Next morning we informed the receptionist and he promised me we would get a better room. We should just leave our package and everything would be in room 108 when we come back in the evening. Room 108 was even worth and the lamp and shower broken. I informed the receptionist in the evening that I would like to speak to the Hotel Manager. He was not in and he was supposed to be informed through email. After the next morning we still didn´t had a reaction from Mr. Kranenburg and we decided to leave the Hotel. The receptionist called the Hotel Manager Mr. Kranenburg and his respond was that we have to pay for the booked three days on top he refused to speak personal to me on the phone. Is that an acceptable behavior for a hotel manager? We paid at the end the full price for two nights and finished our family holiday earlier. We are very disappointed especially since we had excellent experience with the Fletcher Hotel in Westkapelle. How is it possible that such a bad and unacceptable Hotel represent the Fletcher Hotel Group especially if the explanation through booking.com is not mentioning the terrible conditions?

Review 82:Nothing, exept some of the personal where very friendly and suportif. The Hotel is well located in Middelburg

Review 83:Only negative point would be the bathroom needing a renovation. It was very clean, but not anymore in top form.

Review 84:We were given excellent service at the reception when checking in. The room was available before the official time, which was very nice. Beds were of good quality, even for the children as we had a family room. The three-course dinner was excellent value for money. The service was very attentive. We were given nice tips and suggestions what to visit also the day after as we didn't know the area at all. Breakfast was good, many choices.

Review 85:Room 107, for the second visit! My colleagues had top-floor rooms, mine needs complete refurb. Is it because I'm over 65 that I get a low floor room? Please never again!

Review 86:Breakfast very good, atmosphere of breakfast and dining areas very good, staff very good. On previous visit I had very good evening meal.

Review 87:To cold in the room (end of september)-off heating system. Tooooooo soft bed mattresses, it is immposible to avoid pain of spine.

Review 88:Good location 5 min walk from city centre, polite and well prepared personell, good food in the restaurant, friendly for a kinds.budget friendly

Review 89:Hotel is a bit shabby, needs a facelift. Single bedroom very small, could hear the guests in the rooms on either side.

Review 90:Location. Good size TV in the single bedroom. Price is inclusive buffet breakfast.

Review 91:The awful sewer odour that came into 406, the fact that my request for aquiet room got me a room by the elevator and on the front by the busybusy bridge; the dining room male personnel who wandered around andchatted a lot but forgot he had customers.

Review 92:The dinner, the breakfast that was incuded, the principal desk clerk. The fact that as I persisted I eventually got our room changed to aperfect one for the second night. The easy accommodation of bikes.

Review 93:After having read reviews of the hotel, I thought: 'It can't bethat bad'. Well, it is!! This hotel is a disaster, with wooden wallsit seems, worn down rooms, bathrooms, plumbing and timber. In casethere's a fire you will be left dead in your room since everythingwill catch fire immediately. Everything about the breakfast says'cheap'. On top of this we were charged 113 euros for a standardroom. Yes, it's an old building, and it could be a charming hotelbut it really is not. The pictures on this site do not represent thewhole of the hotel. Shameful!

Review 94:There really is nothing to like about this hotel. Rooms are poor, breakfast is a disaster and the price is highly overrated.

Review 95:Although we had chosen a small double it was really a single room with a double bed in it. Ok if only staying one night.

Review 96:Good breakfast. Central location especially if you were travelling by train as its near the station.

Review 97:>bathroom; floor and walls were not clean >not enough toiletpaper(had to go down and ask) >no airco (we visited on the hottest day of the year)

Review 98:>Distance between beach Domburg and the hotel. >location;in the city centre of Middleburg >staff/service, very friendly >breakfast

Review 99:Nothing

Review 100:We had a great time there and to be honest we can't understand all the negative ratings here. It's true, it's an old building with an old interieur but it is not dirty. There's also enough space in the room but it depends which room type you choose. There are 3 different types. If you take a budget room it's maybe narrow but as the name says it's budget. Breakfast is really good with everything. Staff is very friendly and helpfull and I still hope they can find my black cable I forgot in room 326 ;-))

Review 101:Rooms 1,6x3,5 meter!!!! Never seen smaller, a bit smelly. The lift is larger (and less smelly) in many hotels. Bathroom painted on old tailed wall and paint peel off badly. Worst cofee ever in big pot. Hotel is old and worn out.

Review 102:City where the hotel is located ;-) External look of the hotel.

Review 103:- room not so clean - bed matrass not stable - reception wanted to charge reservation fee afterwards without having mentioned it; after complaining I didn't have to pay which was ok

Review 104:- price - short term availability - location - breakfast

Review 105:1. Bathrooms have not been upgraded for what seems like a very long time. There was greasy dust on soap and toilet roll dispensers. 2. Floors seem very unstable and that frightened us somewhat. 3. Food at breakfast buffet was not fresh - bread was hard and crispy, cold meat and cheese hard and crispy on the edges, bacon limp and soft instead of crispy.

Review 106:1. The fact that our grandmother worked at the hotel in the early 1900's made it special for four adult sisters. 2. The location - close to station, family members, city centre, etc.

Review 107:Very expensive for the quality. Shower over the bath with no shower curtain meaning floor gets soaked. Average breakfast.

Review 108:Good location, opposite station and 5 minutes walk from the town square and shops.

Review 109:The hotel was in pretty bad shape for being a 3 star hotel. The room was super small and furniture was torn and did not feel very fresh.

Review 110:It was close to the center and the train station

Review 111:This hotel use to be beautiful, the location is fantastic, only a fewmeter away from everything. The Staff is fantastic, the front desk is Jack of all trades. If you notice there is a receptionist with no back up, if you need something late at night, the poor girl/guy will need to leave his/her station to help you. TV not working, she/he is there to help Computer is down on check out to will figure it out, (but look twice, you might get charge double if you rent a bike (by accident of course)) I recommand for the owner of the hotel to do his part fix it or sale it to someone who can take care of it. It is a shame!

Review 112:The location the massive widows the views from the fire escape

Review 113:bathroom could do with a freshen up, perhaps. Noise of dripping on second night - not sure if because of the rain, or an overflow pipe. Room 107.

Review 114:I like older-style hotels, and this was a well-updated older hotel, in a good location to get the atmosphere of the town, and very convenient to all town destinations. Staff very competent and helpful.

Review 115:Many things were not in order, i.e. the bed was very small, the mattress was old and had indentations (particularly towards the middle), there was only one (fairly small) blanket provided, no small towels provided, one pillow was dirty (not properly washed), there was mould in the bathroom, the sink was leaking. Between the rooms there was no good sound insulation, you could hear neighbours talking and one dog was barking (no joke!). Overall, given that we paid 45 Euro per person per night (some people pay up to 60 Euro for the same room), the price/quality ratio is very bad. Whereever we travelled in Europe so far (e.g. UK, Germany, Czech) we obtained much more value for the same price.

Review 116:The personnel was friendly and understood the manyfold complaints we had on the room.

Review 117:Ddifficult to find hotel on the street when you are coming at night. No clear indication of the Hotel.

Review 118:Good location and breakfast

Review 119:The window of the bathroom broken , so the room was really cold. The bed too small

Review 120:Breakfast, servants and localization

Review 121:-

Review 122:curtains, bathtub, breakfast, atmosphere, large mirror

Review 123:We liked the atmosphere of this old hotel. The staff was kind and to the point.

Review 124:Small room. Very warm in room and no windows to open. Small bed.

Review 125:Location. Breakfast. Friendly staff.

Review 126:The room which I paied was terrible... Doesnt worth 100 euro.

Review 127:Food ware greats, young staff at Restaurant was great!

Review 128:Insulation of the room was poor Bathroom smelt bad

Review 129:Breakfast was plentiful Staff was friendly Quality/price was very good

Review 130:Bathroom a bit neglected, clean enough but a bit old and worn out.

Review 131:Handy location; reasonable price; friendly staff

Review 132:The location Cycle storage at hotel

Review 133:Cleaning very poor Bed very small General comfort poor

Review 134:Breakfast

Review 135:Rooms are too small

Review 136:Food was good but limited

Review 137:veel te duur voor wat geboden wordt / een stinkende badkamer etc etc

Review 138:locatie en ontbijt

Review 139:Bathroom smelled mildewy

Review 140:The bathtub

The Fine Print

Please note that pets are not allowed in the restaurant and in the breakfast area.
