Reviews for Flåm Hostel

Review 1:The Flåm hostel was just a short walk from the both the train and the boat. It was super clean and warm. The shared kitchen was quite large and well stocked with utensils.

Review 2:Be careful of the sheep fence. It's electric (a warning sign would help!)

Review 3:Very well-located to the train station and port and a great place to stay on a stopover between Bergen and Oslo. Helpful staff and beautiful grounds. Upgraded without any extra cost. Warm, clean rooms and clean bedding. Great ensuite bathroom and satisfactory kitchen for self-catering. Loved the apple trees and the friendly sheep on the property.

Review 4:I stayed in Flåm for one night, the hostel is super close to the train station. As it was the end of October I got upgraded to a 4bed female dorm instead of the 6, it was only me and an other girl in the room,we also had our own bathroom with heated floors it was so great. Huge kitchen and community area, nice and clean outside with plenty of apple trees and sheeps. Beds were comfortable, got bedlinen too. I just loved the place.

Review 5:It smelled someone smoking in the 6 people room.

Review 6:We booked one bed in a 6 people room but somehow it was full. Then we got a double room. It was close to train station. The kitchen was very clean but no seasonings.

Review 7:Excellent localization. Good place to stay for those who choose to make the "Norway in a nutshell" by their own. Nice hikes from the hostel. Easy to buy the boat ticket to Gudvangen in Flam. Easy to buy the bus ticket to Voss in Gudvangen.

Review 8:wi-fi was often unstable.

Review 9:1) kitchen was clean and prepared most things you need. 2) night view was super gorgeous, can see much starring in the sky beside the cabin, air and water was really fresh hear, strongly recommend to spend 1 night in Flam. 3) can borrow hairdryer at reception before 9 pm.

Review 10:This hostel is strategically located near the Naeroyfjord. I stayed in a private room, while the room is small, it is cozy, and the common room and kitchen are just perfect.

Review 11:A little bit far away from the center of Flam but Flam is such a small village anyway.

Review 12:I love the fully-equipped kitchen sooooo much. Thanks for it I made a meal and had a great time on having the meal. The room was large, and the bed was comfortable.

Review 13:The bed was something a 10year old on a school camp would be expected to use. It was like a rock and so narrow. The pillow had not been replaced since 1901. The bathroom was out side under the accomodation. iBook to share a bathroom you NEVER mentioned '" outside" in Norway

Review 14:Location

Review 15:No breakfast and have to go downstairs for a shower.

Review 16:It's only less than 10 minutes walk from the train station. Nice location with beautiful scenery. Room is nice too.

Review 17:Its cheap, but everything must be done by yourself, even making the bed. Also, for some people who may cares, shared bathroom and toilet in this youth hotel means you need to go to another house, which all bathroom and toilet located. It can be a problem if you go Flam in winter. But I'm fine with that. ps. you have to pay for the shower~~~

Review 18:The allocation around this youth hotel is great! Looks like a little village. The staff are very friendly. Bed is much better than normal youth hotel.

Review 19:the shower is located on the first floor so we have to go out and downstairs and walk in the wind to take a shower. there are just 2 plug base in the room, one of them is too high so we cannot use it

Review 20:Great place with great location. If only they had single rooms for a solo traveller, instead i'd to pay for a room that can accomodate 2 persons.but all's well!

Review 21:Loaction Is great! This is the first time I live in a youth hostel. It feels good that people share the kitchen and clean it up after use. I saw apples falling from the tree when playing the swing.

Review 22:There was only one shared bathroom for our building, so there was a bit of a wait in the morning. Book a room with a private bathroom if this bothers you.

Review 23:Flam isn't very big, and the hostel is just a few minutes' walk to Flam Sentrum, where you'll find the train station, harbour with boat departures, restaurants and cafes, souvenir shops, brewery, and grocery store. The amenities aren't fancy, but everything was very clean and well-stocked. In our building, there was a shared kitchen space and it was very clean and we found everything we needed to make a meal. The rooms were warm and clean. Note that you have to make your own beds and that, depending on room type, you might have to pay to take a shower. The hostel staff are friendly and helpful, too. We received recommendations for local activities and enjoyed everything we did.

Review 24:Make your own bed with giving bed linen. Charge NOK10 for 4 minutes hot shower.

Review 25:The hostel is new and clean and warm. The location is about 7 minutes walk to the station and mini supermarket.

Review 26:This location was amazing!! Really better than a hotel because of the full kitchen and dining room access. This Hostel exceeded our expectations, if we stay in Flåm again we will be coming back here :)

Review 27:I suggest spending the money and staying in the new building. The old building has no en-suite so you will be sharing your bath with all the campers and paying a buck fifty per 4 min shower

Review 28:Great price, great location

Review 29:WiFi didn't reach the room (but was available in the communal areas - kitchen, sitting room.) This wasn't a big deal for us as it was only a one night stopover. Note: there is a good kitchen, but very limited shop - so I would advise getting provisions before arriving in Flam.

Review 30:Location is a very short walk away from the flam railway and fjord ferry, making it a great overnight stop when doing 'Norway in a Nutshell'. The accommodation was clean I would recommend it. The facilities were 'as expected' of a youth hostel/campsite

Review 31:I liked the concept of clean and simple rooms and that one could use the kitchen and dining room to make your own food. I think this suited us very well. Very good that we also could hire pillows an so on.

Review 32:The water flow was too little, so the time limit of hot shower was too short for each coin spent. Better bring a couple of coins with you while showering, just in case. And the wifi was rather poor, either in the sitting room or my room.

Review 33:The room was quite clean, even the wooden floor.

Review 34:Shower is charged.

Review 35:Bed Linen included (not always in Norway) Big common room Shared kitchen with enough ustensils to cook. The wood give a warm atmosphere to this place! Nice view on waterfalls just behind the camp site.

Review 36:very good location close to the train station (about 5 mins walk) very nice and helpful staff. I had a single room in a chalet with a shared kitchen and bathroom, everything was very clean and welcoming. Chalet also had a balcony with a beautiful view of the Aurlandsfjord

Review 37:I'd asked for twin beds when booking 3 months in advance, but on arrival only bunks were available. Wifi wasn't good.

Review 38:The hostel's existence meant we could stop over between Flam railway descent, and boat to Gudavangen next morning. Appreciated availability of double room with own bathroom at reasonable price. Coop nearby for food. Great kitchen facilities; much attention to group cleanliness on whole site, and to quietness after 10pm.

Review 39:No access to wifi ("overloaded") ; no towels ; no so cheap compared to alternative offers in Norway

Review 40:Near touristic attractions (flam train & boat Sognefjord)

Review 41:Wifi wasn't the best but it didn't spoil anything!

Review 42:Location location location. We needed a place to stay for a night before and after our kayaking trip.

Review 43:Very busy place with people constantly coming and going, can get a bit noisy when bigger groups are moving in and out.

Review 44:Very central, good kitchen facilities, lovely setting, functional.

Review 45:Nothing, it was great.

Review 46:Clean, friendly and comfortable. The hostel is not directly on the fjord but within easy walking distance of the main village, shop and restaurants. Great facilities, quiet. Good looking bbq run in the evening and breakfast can be pre-ordered.

Review 47:Poor wifi we ended up wandering around trying to get reception even after the office staff had rebooted

Review 48:I found almost everything to be beyond my expectation it was modern comfortable and welcoming

Review 49:Small room for 4 people with just carryon size luggage. The bathroom has no shelves to put your toiletries. The beddings are included but the towels are not. Be sure to rent your towels while the office is still open. The WIFI is very slow and hard to sign on, always full.

Review 50:The location is just 5 minutes walk from the train station and ferry docks. The kitchen is well equipped and clean. The room and the public sitting area also very clean.

Review 51:Getting onto the wifi was a little tricky at times, possibly when there were a lot of people trying to use it.

Review 52:Well located facility (just a 5 or so minute walk to the railway station, buses and ferry terminal). Our four bed room was perfect for a couple of nights stay (two adults and two teens) and it was nice to have our own ensuite. Very clean facilities, and a reasonably well equipped kitchen where we prepared lunches and a dinner. Good value for money but make sure you book ahead at busy times - we were very lucky to get a room.

Review 53:Wifi connection was terrible.

Review 54:You can't beat the views; it's in awesome location with waterfalls all around you. The accommodations were decent... pretty standard for a hostel.

Review 55:nada

Review 56:Ubicacion perfecta. A pesar del precio alto por ser Noruega, el lugar es estupendo. Muy tranquilo. Cocina habilitada con todo lo necesario para preparar cualquier comida. Nos alojamos en habitacion privada con baño

Review 57:The location is quite convenient, very close to train station and harbour. The view is pretty nice. The room is simple but clean, well equipped kichen. The guests are friendly and easygoing.

Review 58:Wish I had been made aware that needed coin to have a hot shower! Water is literally just above freezing.

Review 59:Location & facilities were priced well for Flam at peak of tourist season.

Review 60:Staff very helpful and friendly, rooms and building very clean. Surrounding campground well kept. We had a wonderful time staying at the Flam Hostel.

Review 61:+thin walls, you can hear everything(but luckily we had quiet neighbours:)

Review 62:+very nice and helpfull staff +you can buy bakery for breakfast in reception from 08,00 +we got nice room and shared kitched with living room was clean. +close to center

Review 63:Pay-per-shower. It was the first time I encountered such thing and didn't realize it's timer based and not volme of water used.

Review 64:The room was nice. We had a nice kitchen in the adjacent room. The camping grounds were really beautiful.

Review 65:Signage can be improve. Should have a clear sign pointing to FLAM HOSTEL

Review 66:The place is located near the pier and train station. Clean, self contained with clean and well equipped kitchen. Room though small is adequate, clean and comfortable. Great surrounding.

Review 67:Didn't like the bunk beds. Mattresses were very thin. No breakfast. Family with noisy kids who weren't always wearing diapers/pants...

Review 68:There was a hair dryer for anyone to use!! Loved being able to rent a bike here. The setting is very scenic and peaceful. Love the beautiful dining area and communal kitchen. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Amazing view from our private room.

Review 69:Wish there would have been a breakfast option.

Review 70:Very beautiful setting, close to the train station and within easy walking distance to everything in town.

Review 71:The signal of wifi is not so good in the room and I couldn't use wifi in the kitchen. U can hear sound from the corridor.

Review 72:The room and shared kitchen is really clean and well organized. Not so many facilities but enough for a comfort stay. Great location.

Review 73:Hated bunk beds and room size. Had to make own beds. Pillow smelled. Only breakfast was from a cart selling crepes and coffee 400 meters from room. Way to much to spend for so little!

Review 74:Grounds were pretty. Private bath was convenient but spartan.

Review 75:The cost, I get that this is a hostel and in the middle of nowhere, but I paid more here than anywhere else in Norway and I had to make my own bed and pay extra for a towel.

Review 76:Location, friendly staff

Review 77:Shower costs 10 NOK extra. Wifi was terrible. They give you linens but you have to make your own bed and cover.

Review 78:Good location. Nice wooden interiors. Cozy feel.

Review 79:I had my own room but the WC was shared. Also, the shower was downstairs in a kind of dormitory style but I found my experience very satisfactory.

Review 80:Flam is very small so it is easy to walk from the train station to the hostel. It was clean and they had a food truck that could cook meals. Very convenient.

Review 81:More options for vegetarians please in the hostel ..for late arrival guests ( as the grocery store closes early )

Review 82:The location nestled in between the mountains takes your breath away. We reached at midnight but were pleasantly surprised to be greeted by a friendly staff !

Review 83:However, it is ridiculous to charge 10kr for a shower. We booked a double room with shared bathroom, which generally implies use of a shower. We ist have cash, only card so couldn't shower while we were there.

Review 84:We really liked this place, it was cosy and clean.

Review 85:wifi code only lasts for 24hours and you will have to get renewed code every 24hours from the check in kiosk and also, the speed is not the best.

Review 86:Clean facility and the staffs are always around 24/7, they would be happy to assist you even at afterhours if you just give them a call :) was very touched when they ran down to office at 11pm to help me out for the wifi.

Review 87:Family rooms are a bit small , would prefer double bed instead of bunk beds as a option for family travelling with kids .

Review 88:Great Location , Very clean room & bathroom , Polite owners , free wifi , free common area kitchen facilities , setting is lovely with a scenic backdrop.

Review 89:Everything. The hostel is better than any hotel. It is located in the beautiful blossom garden. Nice mountain views surround. The room wooden finishing. There is a studio for 5 rooms, well equipped kitchen, toilet. the shower downstairs is clean.

Review 90:For the money, I'd like a little more. You could hear through thewalls what everyone else was doing, you pick up and drop off your ownsheets, and you have to pay to shower (and rent a towel if needed). And,it turns off after only 3 minutes. Given that it took time to warm up, Ihad almost zero shower time. I've done basic hotels, mid-level, andhigh-end. But, i've never quite felt ripper off like this.

Review 91:Lcoation was close to the harbor, superb scenery.

Review 92:There is a small shop in a hostel reception but prices are high. There is a supermarket in Flam (Coop) but prices there are higher than in Rema1000 in other towns. It is difficult to find a restaurant because city looks like closed after departure of last train. Better have own food.

Review 93:Rooms in a hostel are quite small with small windows but on the same level is a big common area with kitchen, dining room and sofa. I felt like renting a studio not a room :)

Review 94:They have bikes and such to rent for a cheap price and the personell is awesome. The woman in the reception, Johanna, took good care of us while we were staying at the hostel.

Review 95:Noisy American residents under the influence of alcohol late at night.

Review 96:Visiting at a time of year when Flam was quiet. Speaking to a person about how busy it gets when huge cruise ships come in would have detracted from the experience that my wife and myself enjoy.

Review 97:The owner and staff were very friendly. They even upgraded out room to a private ensuite as it was low season and there was availability. The kitchen was great and big enough to meet fellow travelers. Flåm was very pretty. Although quiet during March, there was a nice feel to the place. Perfect way to break up the Norway in a nutshell trip for a night or two.

Review 98:The wi-if setup is not ideal. Future travellers should be sure to ask for additional logins if they intend to connect more than one device, and to use their devices in the kitchen for the best connection.

Review 99:The staff was lovely and very helpful, letting us leave our bags after we had checked out.

Review 100:Wifi did not work very well. The area is kind of remote but other facilities in the same area had better working wifi.

Review 101:Hostel has a great location, very quiet. It is clean. Staff are nice. I highly recommend this place!

Review 102:The woman who runs this place is the best. She gave us way more info about what to do in the local area than the people in the so called tourist office, who seem to be in the business of selling expensive tours but not, say telling you about local walks and activities.

Review 103:Nothing dissatisfied, but a suggestion to the hostel. I stayed there for 1 day. At mid night (25 Oct), the clock was shifted 1 hour slower. I, as a foreign vistor, didn't know about that until the next day I went to take the train and found that I arrived 1 hour earlier. It would be nice if they could inform the guests about that.

Review 104:Clean, tidy and comfortable. Good location and good scenery around. The kitchen is big enough and fully equipped, really very nice.

Review 105:Nothing

Review 106:I had a great time here. It has good view of Flam and very close to the train station. The room and bathroom are extremely tidy and clean. It is one of the best place to stay in Flam.

Review 107:Room with private bathroom and kitchen well equip and clean. Also, location very convenient to flam station and port. Walking distance to fantastic fjord view

Review 108:Internet is limited for 12 hrs, each code only for one device, u better ask for 2 codes if u stay til next day morning. U need to pay for hot water to shower ..5 mins costs 10nok, too much...

Review 109:Everything is good, warmly wooden hostel, nice kitchen with everything u will need. Clean room and public area, lovely interior decoration ! Location is good too, not too far from station and market

Review 110:Good location and commendable room size; walking distance to the train station, supermarket, and the pier. Great cucumber soup by the reception on cold days and close to a nice breakfast venue on the benches by the water.

Review 111:Towel was not in the bath. But could be rented.

Review 112:Everything was perfect considering the price. Especially the owner themselves do their best to help the customers as their family.

Review 113:Manager forgot to provide us with info how to access the Internet. So I have to go to reception once again and ask him. The manager printed two access codes and provided to me. To be honest, I don't understand, WHY some accomodation use such system with separate and unique wi-fi access code? It's absolutely not user friendly. Why not to provide wi-fi without any access code?

Review 114:The reception is located near small shop at the entrance to the hostel area. When checked-in, manager provided me with bed lined and described how to get our room. You need to use something like smart card in order to open door to your house and then to open room's door. So it's quite secure. As I told, bed linen are provided, that's also big plus. Kitchen is quite big and clean. Room was clean, quite comfortable but a bit small.

Review 115:Reception staff could be more friendly. No sheets or towels provided

Review 116:Very clean, good kitchen facilities, close to railway station and boat pier. The shop had all the things needed, at a very reasonable price

Review 117:Poor wifi connection and shall get the password every day from counter, but always long queue for check-in, enquiry, buying stuff....

Review 118:Good location, very clean and with well equipped kitchen. Staff is very helpful.

Review 119:The bed was a bit narrow (typical for Norway). The cost of a twin room with en-suite facilities was high by UK standards but low by Norwegian.

Review 120:Great location very near the station and port. The room was super clean and large. Despite it being August and full of tourists, the site had plenty of space between the buildings and tents and lots of outside seating.

Review 121:For internet you need individual codes which are available only from thereception, but it closes at 10 pm. So remember to get the internet codeat check-in.Linen is provided but no towels. Hot showers cost 10 NOK, but that's ok for a hostel.

Review 122:Very clean facilities. Good location.

Review 123:wifi not working well but who cares if we wanna escape from the noisy world. just read books and talk with people.

Review 124:The hostel is actually part of Flam camping area with beautiful landscape of lawn, trees, mountains and waterfalls. Facilities are better than normal standard as it is called "hostel". You can but some food from the supermarket near train station and cook for yourself in the kitchen (very clean and fully equipped) and enjoy your meal in the beautiful wonderland!

Review 125:Wooden floor making some noise on the coridor, small room.

Review 126:Great position, close to the harbour/ships/railway station/main road, staff ok, clean - both room and bathrooms and common areas.

Review 127:None

Review 128:Superb kitchen to cook- that makes the experience unique because it's been very boring to eat out throughout the journey! Excellent room with space and good amenities. Clean and bright room. Good and helpful staff. Quiet and nice atmosphere even with lots of guests, everyone behaved, unlike those in other hostels who like to make quite a bit of noise Enjoy the use of the laundry service after days of travel at a good price, no more bad smell of the luggage then Good location, away from the noisy centre but easy to get there, just within 10 minute walk Extremely good lighting systems, even outside the room in the corridor, energy saving and automatically on when in need at night Excellent environment, good hygiene. Can see staff cleaning things up very early in the morning, helping clean the kitchen when things get piled up

Review 129:Very expensive for one minimal small room with for such a ''2 floors'' army style beds, small table,a woden bench, bathroom no Tv..and that't it..of course no towels and no breakfast ,it's a hostel.. but for about 150 euros for one night, 2 persons ,it was our most expensive night in our 11 days Norway trip, all of them, inclusive Oslo Bergen and other touristic places along the way,4 stars Hotels..and inclusive breakfast.

Review 130:Good location, nice staff, clean efficent facility.

Review 131:nothing; all good

Review 132:modern clean hostel in lovely position away from the hurley burley of Flam but within easy walking distance of village, very good self catering facilities, friendly staff
