Reviews for Quinta do Caracol
Review 1:The bed was very firm but we slept perfectly on top of the duvet with extra rugs.
Review 2:We arrived VERY late and the reception was warm, knowledgable and friendly. Breakfast was good - kept us going most of the day! Beautiful surroundings. Close to the town but very quiet 'retreat' type atmosphere. Open fire at breakfast was good. We left before breakfast and they packed us one the night before so we could eat before we left. Spotlessly clean.
Review 3:The position is probably not the best in summer time (not close to the sea), but generally ok, you are at walking distance from Tavira.
Review 4:The apartment is very nice and comfortable. The breakfast good also with fresh pastries.
Review 5:Poor wifi connection we had exoected to converse with family over Christmas. 4 portuguese chanels okay but remainder was spanish. Had to go to reception for english speaking channels.
Review 6:Friendly, peaceful, very helpful,
Review 7:Their sweage system requires that you put the used toilet paper in a rubbish bin, rather than flushing it down the toilet.
Review 8:Convenient location close to Tavira's historical centre, and close to the road to Santa Luzia, the world's undisputed octopus capital. A charming old property with lots of character and and a beautiful garden. Fire lit in the breakfast room's fireplace. Very good breakfast with amazing pumpkin jam, guavas and fresh-squeezed orange juice squeezed literally minutes before it is served, from the oranges plucked that morning in their own orchard.
Review 9:Weather could have been better (LOL)
Review 10:The property is delightful, well maintained, the owners are charming, and is located as to not need a vehicle, everything is in walking distance.
Review 11:The weather unfortunately!
Review 12:The owner stayed up for our late arrival and was really helpful. We loved the quirky room, the garden and the good breakfast
Review 13:Wifi wasn't available in the room. For Portugal the price was a bit high.
Review 14:Beautiful grounds and outside breakfast area. Easy to access and park. Welcoming owner with lots of information. Very peaceful when there but might be different in summer with kids staying.
Review 15:We experienced loud pump noises during the night. Not sure whether these were something exceptional or a normal occurrence.
Review 16:The farm is beautiful and it is beautifully kept. Staff is super friendly.
Review 17:The property is beautiful - just the historical Portuguese charm I was looking for. The owner and staff were very helpful and the breakfasts were fabulous including fresh oranges and pomegranates!
Review 18:There was not enough lighting in the rooms and only a very small lamp on the bedside table making it very difficult to read in bed. As there was road noise we needed to keep our windows shut and the air-conditioning unit in the bedroom was noisy.
Review 19:We had a classic double room and it was very spacious. The bathroom was large and there was lots of hot water for showers. Breakfast was included in rate, but it was the same every morning and not a lot of selection, although you could request bacon and eggs. The fresh orange juice was very nice. It was a little walk into town and up a hill when returning, but the exercise was welcomed after a meal in one of the great restaurants. Free private parking was appreciated.
Review 20:Nothing apart from a small bed.
Review 21:Very relaxing and friendly place. Owners and staff are charming. The gardens have a number of sitting areas both in the shade and sun, and are very well looked after. Breakfast can be taken inside or outside, a very good selection of hot and cold dishes. The rooms are very comfortable, however the bed in the room we stayed was a little small and quiet hard, but the rooms have everything you may need.
Review 22:There is a hard tiled area directly behind the bed in the Glicinia room which I managed to bang my back off, there needs to be a headboard or other padding installed here please. We used the blankets to cover this.
Review 23:Excellent location near to town and train station. So relaxing in such a really nice property, clean room every day, very pleasant and helpful staff, small but really nice pool. Overall if you want to chill out, do come here.
Review 24:Had to put toilet paper in a bin next to the toilet. Staff moved our belongings to another room while we were out. Location very poor.We stayed about 1 hour, we were very unhappy. Owner took full cost.
Review 25:Room looked clean.
Review 26:Wifi did not work in our room that was some way from the router. No big deal as we browsed from the garden.
Review 27:Beautiful rooms and authentic local furniture and atmosphere. Peaceful gardens with flowers and birds. Good breakfast. Very friendly lady owner and efficient staff. An oasis of calm.
Review 28:Home from home. Great staff, amazing facilities for young kids. 5 acres of grounds, tennis court, pool, plenty of places in the grounds for the kids to explore & play
Review 29:There was nothing to dislike.
Review 30:The tranquility of the place despite it's conveniently close location to town. The lush gardens, lovely pool, excellent breakfasts and our crisp bedlinen was changed daily. The owners and staff could not have been more friendly and helpful.
Review 31:None.
Review 32:Setting, owners/managers, staff, service, comfort, atmosphere, cleanliness, breakfast; all were excellent. Add to that tranquility and peacefulness under the old olive trees. Location is very good. Short walk to restaurants, railway. Longer but not bad walk to old town and lots of restaurants.
Review 33:Just the Internet in the room.need a booster signal.everything else great
Review 34:Very secluded considering grounds on edge of town.friendly staff.pretty garden.spacious rooms
Review 35:Nothing.
Review 36:Good located old farm, with big old trees, and a lot of flowers and green. Wonderfull and very nice and helpfull owner. Good start point to all interesting point's in Algarve. It's better to have a car , because the beaches are few kilometers from this place.
Review 37:It's a big garden just in the city center. Great place to relax. Nice houses, olive and fruit trees around, swimming pool in the garden. Very friendly and helpful owners. Private parking. Unbelievably tasty breakfast (strawberries!!). And also 2 nice dogs and some peacocks.
Review 38:Nice to pick a lemon from the tree outside the patio to savour one's drink. A country garden setting with all mod.cons. Breakfast everything one could wish for. Station 5 mins. walk and town 10 mins. walk.
Review 39:Tiny hard towels, not much personal touches or up-to-date information suitable to couple travelling with small toddler
Review 40:Beautiful gardens and peaceful setting, friendly serving staff
Review 41:A small quibble - the lighting in the bedroom was not conducive to reading in bed and likewise the bathroom could have been bettter lit.
Review 42:The establishment was auite near the main arterial road, but still within comfortable walking distance of the town centre. The apartments were comfortable.
Review 43:Lovely apartment. Excellent breakfast with lots of choice. Quintessential Portuguese property. It was a short walk to the center of Tavira and an easy drive to the beautiful beaches.
Review 44:Nothing to dislike here, especially if you love very old buildings with thick walls, and enjoy the sense of history that comes with it.
Review 45:We stayed in late December at this family-run B&B, in an ancient former farm, with really lovely welcoming staff and owners, the entire place steeped in history and character. We were given wonderful bed linen, and the best (huge) breakfast ever! Juice from oranges picked from their own trees in the garden, warm pastries, and all served in front of a roaring log fire - a great way to start our day. We were sorry to leave, and will certainly visit again.
Review 46:Kitchen facilities were poor as only had two rings on the cooker. Also, there was a musty smell throughout apartment. The mosquitos were bad at night because of the ponds outside.
Review 47:I liked the location because it was on an old farm and we liked the gardens and animals. Also, enjoyed the breakfast outdoors.
Review 48:noise from the train...very close to the station
Review 49:The Quinta had a lot of character. The owner is very charming and gives you lots of information. Fresh fruit, made to order eggs and orange juice from the garden were delicious!

Review 52:Beds were a little basic.
Review 53:The room, the garden, the atmosphere and the breaksfast room was great. The breakfast facilities were very good. The owner was very attentive, informative and friendly.
Review 54:Easy to locate, via road or train. Excellent position - central but quiet & relaxing , a green oasis. Unique and quirky -best of all worlds (b&b, self catering, total relaxation, walkable to centre of town and river, stones through from the train station (but you won't hear the trains!). Staff were very helpful and friendly.Wonderful garden to enjoy and relax in the sun.

Review 56:Excellent Location. Really lovely gardens, a bit quirky Very friendly and helpful staff Excellent daily room cleaning Easy to meet other people at breakfast Quiet and peaceful
Review 57:This is a wonderful hotel for families. Children will love the swimming pool, the ponds full of frogs, the fountains, the chickens, and the grass to run on. The gardens are more beautiful than the photos suggest, and the rooms are charming. A very relaxing place.

Review 91:Like the fact that they welcome pets for no extra charge. This is why we chose this property.
Review 92:Environment - like being in the countryside yet right in town
Review 93:1. Shower-room a little small in our room but all rooms are different - this adds to the charm of the place. 2. No WiFi in the room, only near reception.
Review 94:1. Good, friendly welcome. 2. Quaint low-set buildings. 3. Ice cold beer.
Review 95:Lovely little houses/apartments set in beautiful gardens. Feels like the countryside although it's in the town. Only 10mins walk to centre of Tavira. A very nice town and near to a beach on an island.
Review 96:lovely relaxing , breakfast was good , we were put into a villa as out of season . perfect for railway station close to town .would go back and recommend to others
Review 97:Loved it all
Review 98:The tranquil ambience of this relaxing place was wonderful. The room & staff were excellent. We particularly enjoyed the fantastic breakfast with the open fire. Perfect place to stay.
Review 99:Nothing Absolutely faultless.
Review 100:The quality of the rooms furniture, the antiques and lovely china, are exceptional. The gardens are lovely and the staff excellent. A wonderful find.
Review 101:A bit cold. And NO wifi, except in the (cold) reception, although the hotel was marketed with "wifi all over".
Review 102:Great hotel - lovely location, beautiful gardens and apartment, dog friendly! Very nice staff, wonderful breakfast. Will come back.
Review 103:The double bed was two twins pushed together but without a sheet or anything on top to hold them together, so we basically had to sleep each of us in our separate bed or risk falling in between the two. The beds were also not very comfortable. The location of the hotel is not bad but does require around a ten-minute walk to get into the heart of the town.
Review 104:The buildings and landscaping were beautiful and the room was huge! In addition to the large bedroom and bathroom there was a large sitting room and a kitchenette. I also liked the antique decor in the room.
Review 105:Quaint design of whole place Breakfasts - self service & local produce (orange juice & figs) Good location for walking & driving around the area
Review 106:Had to leave after two days
Review 107:Friendly welcome, lovely clean/bright/colourful traditional room with all comforts. Great location, beautiful setting in lovely gardens. Nice pool and shaded area ... Excellent breakfast in nice surroundings
Review 108:No mosquito mesh on window . Air con was there but prefer fresh air.
Review 109:Gardens peaceful but 2 mins from centre of town . Rooms clean and comfortable good size. Breakfast fresh pressed juice fresh fruit great variety plus usual
Review 110:Absolutely nothing to dislike.
Review 111:We loved the accommodation, the friendly staff, the absolutely beautiful garden and the fact that it was so near to the train station (but you didn't hear the trains) and also within easy walk of all facilities.
Review 112:The Weather!! It was unseasonably cold, not the fault of our hosts, but they combatted it beautifully by lighting a wonderful log fire in the breakfast room
Review 113:The location and setting were perfect. Fabulous garden and the accommodation was comfortable with bags of character. Breakfast great with freshly squeezed orange juice.
Review 114:We hit bad weather- rainy and cool. The room felt a bit damp althoughthere was good wall heater. No duvets, the blankets were cold and heavy, beds hard. No English channel on tv.
Review 115:Charming traditional Portuguese style villas, pretty gardens. A nicehelpful owner who speaks good English, very good breakfast withwonderful fresh custard cake
Review 116:It is very pretty place to stay, with it's white-washed walls and flower themes for each room. It has an old fashioned charm. Beautiful gardens surround the rooms. It is conveniently situated about 10 minutes walk from the old part of town.
Review 117:Located in Tavira - a quiet non-touristic town. Quinta do Caracol is near the railway station (allow no more than 10 minutes from room to platform) and only a short walk (allow no more than 20 minutes) into the centre of town. Quinta do Caracol is not like a normal hotel. It is difficult to categories, but think of it as a series of old-style bungalows in a large garden area. Even though it is in town, and you can hear some traffic, you are more likley to be woken up by a chicken than a lorry. There no trains over night, so they won't disrupt sleep. Freshley squeezed orange juice for breakfast that is the best I have ever tasted!
Review 118:There was some noise from the nearby railway, but that did not bother me at all .(There were no night trains). A10 minute waik into the town, again ,no problem.
Review 119:This was a really "quirky" B and B. My room was spacious, large bedroom, big bathroom and small kitchen, The grounds wre beautiful, orange trees, ornamental pools, sitting areas, small pool. All charming.Owner very helpful.
Review 120:The owner of QdC is the grand daughter of the family who once farmed it. Her father designed both the apartments and the garden and she now manages it herself. The grounds are beautiful, much more so than the pictures show on the website. We were there in late May and it was so beautiful. There are lots of frogs in the ponds and lots of birds and bats too. I think it would be very busy in high season so avoid that time if you want to be peaceful - but it is also very child friendly if you are a family. It is located very close to two supermarkets and to the town of Tavira. Tavira is one of our favourite places in Portugal and we needed a place close by. It was so lovely at the QdC that we just went in to town for a few hours - visited our old haunts and came back to relax in the grounds in the sun! It would suit all types of traveller - just need to pick your time of year. The owner is very nice and very accommodating and I would highly recommend a stay there if you want a base to tour the Algarve.
Review 121:Had a very pleasant stay. The grounds are lovely, relaxing and well kept. Quiet location which is convenient both for the train and bus station. The breakfast was very good which included fresh orange juice from the many trees around the hotel. The owner and staff were very friendly and helpful. If visiting this part of the Algarve again would definitly stay here, very pleased with our choice.
