Reviews for Univers Hotel & Brasserie

Review 1:Service wasn't always awesome. Mediocre breakfast buffet. Tip: if using their parking reservation, ask for a special card at checkin so that you don't have to pay full price at the garage.

Review 2:Right across from train station and bus stops. Family suite was large. Huge bathroom with large tub and a TV!

Review 3:The walls of the rooms are to thin and you can be disturbed by the noises of your neighbors. Also the food at the breakfast room it is located in a narrow corner and become crowded

Review 4:The friendly staff The good maps of the city to the disposition of the guest

Review 5:I had booked through you, and received confirmation that my car parking was secure. On arrival, there was no parking available, except on streets as pay and display. What went wrong. Hotel finally obliged

Review 6:Friendly and very accommodating staff, who were happy to oblige

Review 7:Excellent, knowledgeable, courteous staff. Fabulous location - within 5 minutes walking distance to the train station. Perfect for me as colleagues picked me and up for the concert and dropped me off after the concert.

Review 8:The rooms area was a bit old. Close to station but far from city centre.

Review 9:Nice bar in the Hotel building. Good soundproofing vs. street and train noises.

Review 10:Nothing really bad, but one trivial annoyance: There was tea and coffee available in the room the night we arrived (as there usually is at Best Westerns in the USA too), but the next morning the housekeeper took it away and never brought any back, even though I asked.

Review 11:Friendly staff. Great location, one block from one of the world's most iconic train stations.

Review 12:room and bed a little bit "Spartan", but ok for one night

Review 13:Warm welcome and people at the desk are helpful. Restaurant was good at least for the excellent muscles and Belgium fries. convenient situation near the rail way station

Review 14:Rooms are a little "worn" and in need of refurb which I think is planned soon, this will make a big improvement, quite a lot of street noise being so close to station which is unavoidable

Review 15:Friendly staff and good central location, great bar

Review 16:no complains / great experience.

Review 17:great location - next to railway station . Agatha - receptionist - absolutely wonderfuly friendly and very informative . Gave us a lot of very helpful information

Review 18:Family room so 4 beds in room - quite cramped but good if you needed 4 beds.

Review 19:Convenient for train station. Clean. Cheap convenient parking opposite the hotel. Staff very pleasant and helpful.

Review 20:The water in the radiator and pipes made so much noise, I couldn't sleep with it ON. The doors of the shower didn't close properly and there was water everywhere in the bathroom. 95€ per night was quite a lot.

Review 21:It's not noisy, though it's next to the train station. I could turn on the heat as much as I wanted.

Review 22:Location was great for our needs, the room was nice & clean, bed was comfy, staff were very nice & friendly & helpful. Breakfast was simple, but good.

Review 23:The air conditioning unit in the room leaked and had created a river of water on the floor when we arrived in the afternoon. Someone came to clean up the water, but nothing was done about the air con so it was a bit warm in the room during the night.

Review 24:The staff were friendly, offsite parking was nearby. Great Indian restaurant very close. We stayed one night as we had an early morning flight from Liege airport.

Review 25:work/improvements taking place when we arrived meaning that bar & restaurant facilities not available first couple of nights. quite a walk to the old town where most of the better restaurants & bars are

Review 26:good access to railway station which suited our needs good quality bar nearby parking

Review 27:Beds are much too soft: we changed room, so we tested 6 different mattresses, all were so soft that I sometimes awoke in the middle of the night with pain in the back. Also note that "double beds" are 2 joined small beds.

Review 28:Location near the train station if you plan to travel around Liege, friendly staff.

Review 29:The hotel reception was undergoing restructuring so it took a little longer to check in but this was more than understandable.

Review 30:Very close to the train station but a long walk to the center, buses are frequent however. Staff very helpful.

Review 31:The elevator was to small for the bicycle. A place where you can park the bike safe would be the best solution.

Review 32:The bed and the friendly employees I was allowed to park my bicycle in the hotel room.

Review 33:This marks nearly 20 years I've been staying at the Univers when I go to Liege, and--apart from the renovations, which were conducted very discreetly and had little or no impact while I was there--the place is still the comfortable "home away from home" that I've gotten used to. Thierry and the rest of the crew are still there, and it's nice to have them welcome me when I show up: other hotels may be more luxurious, but the Univers is cozy and friendly. I l like that! :-)

Review 34:It was a bit of a building site at present as the bar and reception area is being redeveloped

Review 35:Very close to the train station. Good selection at breakfast. Friendly reception staff.

Review 36:Front door is closed in the evening, you can enter with your card, but it doesnt work well, had to buzz and wait while it is opened. No balcony. Quite far from the centre by foot, around 20 min.

Review 37:Just accross the railway station - easy to travel. Free fast wi-fi.

Review 38:Very close to, and with a nice view on, the ultra-modern Guillemins train station, yet not too noisy. Surprisingly clean and nice-looking surrounding area despite proximity to the train station. Really friendly staff. Cosy room.

Review 39:The hotel is undergoing renovations - at this moment (summer 2015) entree is renovation site. Overall very basic nothing special

Review 40:Location is great - very close to Guillemins station. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Family room is basic and nice - nothing special. It's a fine hotel for an overnight stay.

Review 41:It was a Sunday so there was no one working downstairs but they are remodelling the reception area. The workmen started just as I was leaving.

Review 42:right by the station

Review 43:I stupidly didn't realize that it was a 25 minute walk to the old town. Once I got oriented it was fine, and I like walking, but it would have been more ideal as a train passenger, and if the weather hadn't been so hot.

Review 44:It is great if you are arriving by train. Room was very comfortable. Staff was really nice.

Review 45:When I entered the hotel I was disappointed because I saw a construction site. The hotel is in a process of reconstruction of the section reception.

Review 46:We were in renovated room and everything was OK.

Review 47:There was a reconstruction going on in the hotel which made the stay a bit more unpleasant. In the morning we were constantly disturbed by the staff because we didn't realize that without the do not disturb-sign we would be bothered multiple times during the morning.

Review 48:The room was nice and the bed was big and comfortable.

Review 49:- shower door could not close properly

Review 50:- perfect location next to the station (it's a 15/20 min walk to the historical centre) - clean room - comfortable bed - soundproof window - easy, quick and efficient check-in / check-out process

Review 51:Very dingy room with dark brown furniture. Not particularly clean but then not dirty either! Basic sort of breakfast in uninteresting room.

Review 52:Convenient to railway station and bus to city centre. Doing some reception area and dining room refurbishment so that might improve things. Wifi good.

Review 53:Close to train station (if you travel by train) and next to local bus station. You can also walk to city center (no more than 25-30 min). The room was very clean, big TV, nice and clean bathroom. WiFi is great.

Review 54:good and comfortable enough for a short stay, the location is close to the Liège train station. Air-con provided in room as well..everything worked fine in room actually..we had a lovely stay :)

Review 55:Brasserie closed for building work, so a bit disrupted. A fair walk from the city centre - especially in poor weather.

Review 56:Very handy for station, reasonably priced, comfortable, and clean.

Review 57:No shampoo, conditioner, cream, shower cap in bathroom. No bottled water. Desk personnel unable or unwilling to help find my Best Western membership info.

Review 58:good location

Review 59:Small and noisy room, you could easily hear the neighbours Thin towels The radiator was not getting hot although we turned it on. Luckily there was an air conditioner in the room.

Review 60:Very close to the railway station, but quite far from the city centre The breakfast was good Good wifi

Review 61:Poor location. It's located in a very busy street. The sheets smelled very weird (not bad, but not really clean either). The floor is made of really old wood, so if anyone walks, the steps can be heared from anywhere.

Review 62:Decades-old toilet room. Cramped room. Tired facilities and public places.

Review 63:Front desk people were very helpful and pleasant: went out of their way for us.

Review 64:The beds weren't super comfortable but weren't bad either. The location is a little far from the city center but was a straight line and 29 minute walk.

Review 65:Michael at the front desk was awesome. He helped us find great places to eat, including where to go with our small children. He was very pleasant and made the experience very worthwhile. The hotel was being renovated and they have done a great job making the hotel nice. The location was great for us, close to what we wanted to see. Although right across from the train station the hotel rooms were quiet.

Review 66:the notices around the hotel. "pay on arrival" "you must have ticket for breakfast" felt a little like an army camp

Review 67:the suite was a nice size

Review 68:Only stayed one night!!!!

Review 69:The staff at this hotel were fantastic, and the room was wonderful - more like a "junior suite" - and very modern in it's fittings. The wifi worked perfectly and was certainly easy to connect to and fast enough for what I wanted.

Review 70:I did not sample the hotel breakfast, which seemed rather expensive according to Booking.com.

Review 71:This hotel is ideally placed for the main station in Liege - and the Guillemins station must be one of the most impressive in the world. The hotel can be seen from the station platform, and will be to your left as you exit. The welcome was very friendly, and they were happy to accommodate a change I needed to make to my booking. In the room the amenities are fine, with a nice sized shower with both a fixed and a removable shower head. The TV has multiple channels from many countries, but a real feature was the fact it had the two main UK stations BBC1 and BBC2, as well as BBC World News, CNN and at least one other English-speaking station. The free wi-fi worked well, and there were three free plug sockets at the desk - quite a rarity! As the station is so close there are plenty of food outlets both in the station and opposite - and there is also a convenience store set into the side of the station that is very close to the hotel.

Review 72:Much farther from town centre than stated building work in progress so no restaurant facility and some daytime noise no heat in bathroom

Review 73:close to bus stop which helped with distance to town centre helpful, friendly staff cheap 24 hour secure parking close by

Review 74:Charged separately for breakfast (not included in cost of the room) No place to pull up in front of the hotel to unload bags

Review 75:Breakfast was very good Wi-Fi connection was great Beds were very comfortable Very clean hotel Kids breakfast was free Secure parking deck close by

Review 76:Bit of a walk to the city centre.

Review 77:We had stopped off for a night in Liege, en route to Luxembourg. Very close to railway station and with reasonably restaurant and bars close by.

Review 78:Difficult to actually spot the hotel. You should put more lights on the facade or at least the entrance. Also make it clear, that visitors have to park in a public parking. They are available within 100 meters from the hotel, so it's not really a problem, but people need to know.

Review 79:If you really need to be in the center of Liege, this is a really good location. Also if you travel by train, you couldn't ask for a better location.

Review 80:Nothing really.

Review 81:Situated close to the station and an easy 20 minute walk to the centre. Some hotel rooms have a nice view situated to beautiful station (created by famous Santiago Calatrava). Very clean room, fast friendly service.

Review 82:Wi fi was fine but only after the CORRECT password was provided having been misleadingly written

Review 83:Very comfortable well appointed hotel, quiet in spite of busy location opposie railway station

Review 84:People smoking near the front lobby made the smell very unpleasant. It was noticeable when I walked down the stairway.

Review 85:Room was very clean and the breakfast buffet was good, a nice start for the day. The staff was always helpful and accommodating. Partnering with Hertz car rental made the process very easy and convenient. Train station across the street was close for my travels.

Review 86:it took nearly 30 minutes to check out and there were only 2 people in front of me! at 10 minutes per person they need to resolve whatever problem they have to take payments

Review 87:good value hotel close to the station

Review 88:Just about everything! Rhein Maas Euro Region day ticket ticket for public transport - buses and trains, except high-speed ones - in large surrounding area of Belgium, Germany and Netherlands on sale at railway station opposite. We went to Aachen in Germany, others went to Maastricht in the Netherlands - fantastic value!

Review 89:Room area was noise at the morning, we wake up because we listed steps room next and above us.

Review 90:Location of hotel is great an personal speak Spanish and are polite. Very good

Review 91:Rather expensive for the room we got.

Review 92:Situated close to the station and an easy 20 minute walk to the centre. There were plenty of restaurants and bars close by. Subsidised secure parking is available. Breakfast was very good.

Review 93:We had perfectly equipped and beatiful big family room. But (and I do not understand the reason), there is a step when you enter the toilet and another one when you enter the bathroom. And neither is highlighted! Our two years daughter stumbled over the step, fell down and hit her head (fortunatelly with no impact). I told it to the receptionist, she seemed not to be very interested saying that no previous accident were reported. In our country, every unexpected step must be well highlighted.

Review 94:In Liege, they have new beatiful TGV station. Some hotel rooms have station view. Hotel is quite far from city center, but to tell the truth, the best thing to see in Liege is TGV station...

Review 95:Bedroom window seemed to be locked in the open position and thus was noisy.

Review 96:Location near the railway station has its positive and negative points. Convenient but noisy.

Review 97:having to go outside and feed the parking meters. other than that, fine

Review 98:location was handy near the TGV station. Parking not so easy, but there was a multi story close by. Otherwise it had the virtues and consistency of a big chain hotel

Review 99:Nothing, it was a great experience

Review 100:Very kind, helpful and accommodating staff. Good breakfast and the Family room we stayed in was very clean and spacious. Great location to nice little reataraunts and 35 minutes to Spa circuit. Easy drive

Review 101:Tea/coffee in the room should be standard

Review 102:Friendly staff Basic but comfortable room adequate for a short stay Close to station and so easy to get about Reasonable breakfast Lots of shops & restaurants for all tastes nearby Good shopping centre 10-15mins away

Review 103:It was kind of pricey, but the trip coincided with the Belgian Formula One and the hotel was fully booked.

Review 104:Everything. WiFi in rooms was particularly good, and this in itself is unusual.

Review 105:There was cupboard with a 'fridge in at the foot of one of the beds. The space between the cupboard and the bed was not enough for easy movement. I do not think there was any point in the cupboard being there at all.

Review 106:Being able to see the trains.

Review 107:a bit far from downtown but, on the other hand, very close to the tgv station

Review 108:clean, quiet, professional, strong window protection against noises from vehicles, this hotel seems to care about its customers

Review 109:Some rooms looked tired but still OK. Some rooms had been renovated and were excellent

Review 110:Near station - easy walk to restaurant area. Good service from staff - lovely breakfast.

Review 111:The booking cost were not inclusive The taxes were added on, not included. So, the price you pay stated as inclusive of taxes is not inclusive. I thought it may be a glitch so I paid the Best Western with out further discussion. However, my next booking @ the Romicher Kaiser supported the fact that not only were the taxes on top of but stated included again. Please read the review & my correspondence with Booking.com based in Berlin.

Review 112:I liked the hotel. No issues at all with accoms or staff who were very helpful.

Review 113:Hotel is quite a way from the centre of town, but handy for the rail station, which is an amazing structure.

Review 114:decent hotel, comfortable, friendly helpful staff, decent sized room & bathroom. Handy for access to main road for moving on. Directions on web to follow "Gare TGV" would be helpful

Review 115:A problem with the Wifi. We could not log into their system. The man at the desk tried very hard to resolve this problem but never did get it to function.

Review 116:The Air Conditioning was wonderful!! The room was clean and the staff were helpful and nice. If you are traveling by train this hotel is perfect. I recommend the Pizza place around the corner.

Review 117:very soft bed, receptionist kept speaking french although our french was obviously limited, wifi did not work

Review 118:very good windows (hotel is next to station), late check out at 12, very modern bathroom, very clean, parking is close

Review 119:- No facilities to make tea or coffee in the room - Compared to the high standards the room set the towels were a bit disappointing (thin and damaged) - No information available about parking facilities at the reception other than the (expensive) parking garage.

Review 120:- Very spacious, tidy and complete room (suite) - Walking distance from the city center - Very friendly staff at the desk

Review 121:Only my iPhone would connect to wifi. Not my friends samsung, or my laptop. Our double stroller didn't fit in the elevator so we had to leave it downstairs. Parking is across the street in a garage which is 17.20€ for one night. Room don't have a fridge for my child's milk and other snacks that should be refrigerated.

Review 122:Very close to train station. The family room was big and spacious. Staff very friendly and helpful. Great experience. Breakfast had many choices.

Review 123:Nothing

Review 124:Everything

Review 125:Everything is nice in this hotel

Review 127:Really good hotel. Clean Comfortable bed

Review 128:Close to the train station, noise of something like ventilation

Review 134:hotel vieillot...

Review 135:la situation

Review 136:Excellent location and very clean and family friendly hotel.
