Reviews for Grand Hotel Reykjavík
Review 1:Room Very Cold, can not adjust the temp. Far from city center with expensive transportation cost.
Review 2:grand hotel, good decorate big room.Hi- tech but cannot control room Temp.
Review 3:Staff was professional but not very friendly They couldnt tell me anything that I couldnt do research myself or knew it already Example - where could we drive to see northern lights Answer - go somewhere dark well duhhh I knew that !! how about some local places that we could go to ? Exception was Santa Bear :) I hope you read this , he was excellent and more than helpful and very friendly , the saving grace there imo
Review 4:Very neat and clean hotel , very 'grand' Hotel rooms were very nice , we had a great view too Breakfast and Dinner were good , food was great and the wait staff friendly
Review 5:Little amenities are absent in the room - shower cap, body lotion, etc. Lighting is a bit poor for reading, and there is a night light that is on all night and you need to find creative ways to cover it in order to be able to sleep.
Review 6:Good location - not too far from the center. Spacious and comfortable rooms. Quiet.
Review 7:A bizarre automated window mechanism that (loudly) opens and closes throughout the day and more importantly night to regulate temperature and condensation. Reception were little help and thought it normal(?) but as a light sleeper with fairly thin walls anyway I found it annoying
Review 8:Great location and from what we saw one of the nicest hotels in the city. Lovely lobby and rooms
Review 9:Very loud music coming from parties - had to change room . No shampoo or conditioner provided in bathroom Location isn't the best- cannot walk into town
Review 10:Beds were very comfortable! And room was clean. Staff were friendly Fairly good selection for breakfast I didn't have dinner there
Review 11:Noise and loud music from parties both Friday and Saturday nights into the early hours. Disturbed sleep +++.
Review 12:The kids room (3 teenage boys) had three large beds and plenty of room. Perfect for our needs. Breakfast was lovely. Had a car so very convenient location.
Review 13:The a la carte menu in the restaurant was quite limited but there are many restaurants in Rekyavik so we ate out after one night. Our room was on a corner and the wifi signal was no good, we could connect but not actually do anything - this was the case with four different appliances.
Review 14:This is a large hotel catering for tour groups as well as individuals, because of this there was always plenty of spaces in the car park. The lobby is a very nice area, typical of an international style hotel. Breakfast was very good.
Review 15:The bed were very hard and not good to sleep on. We went on a romanticget a way, from everyday rutine and were planning on sleeping in everymorning, which wasn't possible, because we couldn't lay morethan 8 hours in the bed because the bed was uncomfortable. Huge minus!
Review 16:The lobby and the spa
Review 17:Happy hour every night 17:00-19:00 .. Cheaper than most places in town! Also, comfiest bed I've had in a hotel Room looked much better than expected in comparison to photos online
Review 18:Room heating was stifling and hard to control 3 bed adult room: the camp-bed I used was adequate but rather unexpected for a 4* hotel.
Review 19:Reception staff were excellent - bar staff OK Out of town centre location was good for local walks and convenient for night tour drop offs Breakfast buffet was good, reasonable value
Review 20:Very expensive breakfast which was good quality but not worth £35 for 3 people and to not have the option of a continental breakfast
Review 21:Gym was excellent comfortable foyer and well equipped and comfortable rooms
Review 22:Our fridge and hallway lamp did not work during our whole stay, we complained about this 2 Times but they ignored it. We also requested a room higher up in the building 7 Months before we arrived and ended up on the first floor with a excavator as a view. Very dark in the room with no ceeling lamp and with the hallway lamp not working. Very unhelpful staff and poor breakfast.
Review 23:The banan bread during breakfast, everything else was very poor, this is not à 4 star hotel.
Review 24:There was a lovely dark haired lady working on reception, with glasses. I've forgotten her name. She couldn't do enough to help us, she was great. She gave us a lift into town so we didn't have to pay for a taxi. So lovely :)
Review 25:Hotel was spotless. The room was lovely. The staff where great, very friendly and approachable. Location is 20-30 minute walk to main street or 15 minute walk to shopping mall. Excursions, including pick up and drop off can be arranged from the hotel.
Review 26:We had a room on the 10th floor, great room but road noise all night, sounded like the window was open but it wasn't. Not a great nights sleep. Ask for an Atrium view room when you book.
Review 27:Nice big room, clean and bright. Staff were helpful, food was good although pricey. We had the Buffet dinner on the Friday when we arrived, great choice but overpriced.
Review 28:No bad experiences at all, just a very low bank account until payday !!!
Review 29:The location, the room, the comfort, the staff, the view from the room, bed very comfortable, warm, clean and there is nothing I can say against this hotel, apart from the price !!! I realise Iceland is/was expensive, but still... !!
Review 30:Third bed in room uncomfortable - would expect better from such an hotel. Promised to charge crdit card in Euros but eventually charged in local currency
Review 31:Nice view of Reykjavik from the room, good breakfast
Review 32:The reception was unfriendly. The water taps smelled - apparently all rooms in the hotel are the same when I asked to be moved. We were in the old section of the hotel. It was dark, not enough lighting. The TV and lights were unplugged. And the best was the safe which was on the floor. We had to go down on our knees each day to use it! One of our tours was cancelled and reception said they didn't have our name so couldn't inform us. Why couldn't they have put a notice in the lobby then as we had been waiting in the lobby for an hour before we decided to call the tour company.
Review 33:The breakfast was very, very good.
Review 34:Some things did not work like the phone and light, but this was fixed. Towel heater in bathroom never worked.
Review 35:Staff was nice and helpful. After switching rooms because needed twin beds, room was good.
Review 36:Extremely helpful and courteous. Fantastic spa and nice buffet breakfast open from 6;30 to 10:00 a.m., very convenient for early excursion pick-ups. Hotel has a beautiful, spacious and comfortable open-concept lobby with everything nearby. My entire family loved the hotel!
Review 37:not very nice welcome by reception staff breakfast could have been great but we came after big tourist group just finished
Review 38:nice comfortable hotel room
Review 39:Would have liked use of Spa included in room price as we thought it was part of the hotel and it was one of the reasons we booked this hotel.
Review 40:Friendly helpful staff. fab breakfast, lovely room. We were celebrating our Silver wedding Anniversary and it was a perfect place to do this.
Review 41:The TV only had one option of English Channel and there was no way to put external devices on even tho there were plenty of input slots which was a didapointment for foreign guests like myself. Possibly could have done with aircon as rooms got really hot at times.
Review 42:Short walk from most facilities and restaurants , tour buses collect from outside entrance, very nice modern looking building
Review 43:nothing
Review 44:everything - easy to get to and from city centre either walking (20 minutes) or by bus, lots of car parking, staff very helpful, perfect english, meals fantastic.
Review 45:The room was way too hot and as it was overlooking the lobby, had no way to cool down, other than minimally, by opening the window to the lobby, which was too noisy for a good sleep. A minor gripe, as we were out most of the time anyway, but the TV channel selection was very poor for UK visitors - Not sure if our TV wasn't set up right or this is common throughout the hotel.
Review 46:Great WiFi access. Good looking rooms and hotel in general. Breakfast selection was more than satisfactory. Good base location for traveling around the west and south. Plenty of parking space.
Review 47:The wifi isn't that good on the higher levels. We were on level 10 and the wifi kept dropping out.
Review 48:The staff were very friendly and helpful. They helped us plan our trips and looked up weather forcasts for us to help us find the Northern Lights
Review 49:The location is 25 to 30 minutes (walking) far from the centre of Reykjavik. nevertheless i liked to walk to the centre
Review 50:Clean Comfort International breakfast and good timing The lobby wi fi
Review 51:Our room was above the entrance so it did get noisy as people were returning from the late night Northern lights trips. Not enough to complain at the time but irritating in the early hours of the morning.
Review 52:Friendly staff, good food and service throughout our stay. Liked the restaurant bar area although it was always crowded and there were not enough seats/tables. Our room was spacious, well appointed and clean.
Review 53:The chaos in the breakfast room. It is too small for the number of rooms. Unless you go down to breakfast very early, it's impossible to find a table, endless queue to the buffet, and often you have to point to the staff at dishes that have been emptied, because they don't notice it. Eventually we gave up breakfast altogether and went to eat in town.
Review 54:The room was comfortable, shower is nice, elevators quick (may seem obvious, but not quite so in many hotels…). Staff is friendly and helpful.
Review 55:The lack of British TV stations, we felt that the Spa facilities (sauna, hot tubs) could have been complimentary and the location for some maybe a little too far to walk into town.
Review 56:Lovely quite hotel, very good restaurant, breakfast was also well worth paying for. Rooms were warm and comfortable, the hotel also had a good gym.
Review 57:ICELAND is very expensive and alcohol in the hotel is very dear even during happy hour.
Review 58:Room Service, Jacuzzi bath in the room, Excellent Spa, Fast WiFi, Large rooms, great view, excellent breakfast. Stayed here on two occasions. First class hotel with extremely helpful and pleasant staff
Review 59:Great hotel with great facilities. Staff were friendly and accommodating. A bit of a trek from the centre of Reykjavik and not easy to hail a cab. Other that that, hotel was perfect for us.
Review 60:Rooms were a bit too warm - and too cold if you opened window. Gym also a bit too warm. Wifi a bit unpredictable. Location good, and we enjoyed the walk into town, but a bit far out of town if you don't like walking. (there is a shuttle bus available but only 3 times/day, and not back again). We were told the top floor would be a great place to observe the Northern Lights, however we were told it was not available.
Review 61:Nice big rooms with clean bathroom. Quiet location. Beds very comfortable. Buffet served on Christmas Eve and Day were beautiful. Great breakfast with many healthy options. Good size gym. Helpful staff.
Review 62:I could not access Internet in my room and was told tgst it was being fixed, but it was not fixed while I was there. The hotel is not as centrally located as I had thought - about 20-30 mins walk to the city center.
Review 63:This is a very nice modern clean comfortable hotel, with very helpful staff. They booked trips for me and answered any questions that I had. The rooms and the hotel in general was kept very clean. Given that Iceland is a little expensive, the hotel was very good value.
Review 64:Downtown was at least 20 mins walk long a main road but well worth the walk and the hotel does offer free transport at set times. The WIFI was unreliable in our room on the 10th floor but they were trying to deal with the problem. WIFI was always available in the reception and lounge area.
Review 65:The Grand Hotel was easy to find with plentiful parking. The staff were efficient and friendly. The rooms were clean and comfortable. There was a huge choice for breakfast and it was delicious.
Review 66:It is a shame that hotel spa is open aprox 9:00-19:00, one Sunday9:00-14:00.
Review 67:Large and spacious lobby, where you can relax in front of glassfireplace. At check in we had a few small problems, but the nightreceptionist was very helpful and give 100% effort to help us. Our roomwas located on the 11th floor with a view on Mount of Esja and the city. The work of the housekeeping was always at the highest level, and ourroom was always perfectly cleaned up.
Review 68:Customer service was not great. We ordered a three person room and got a two person room, we had to keep asking for additional items for three people and were met with disdain. Breakfast there were never any tables ready and you had to keep asking for things to be replenished. Not my expectations for a 4 star hotel.
Review 69:The spa facilities are great.
Review 70:This is not a complaint just a suggestion To reach the first floor via the elevators you have to use the steps [ I do not know if there is another way round them] it would be great if there was a ramp to roll your luggage up and down
Review 71:This is my second trip to the hotel and as in the first trip I found the rooms clean and the beds comfortable The breakfast were simply wonderful and worth raving about The food was hot and plentiful The front desk staff were both helpful and knowledgeable
Review 72:On Saturday morning we arrived for breakfast at 9:30. Although we waited for more than 20 minutes, there was no table and the queue for the buffet was enormous. Eventually we left and went to have breakfast somewhere else. I think when there is full occupancy the hotel should organize this better. However, on Sunday we went down to breakfast early, the service was superb and so was the food and selection.
Review 73:The room was spacious, clean and comfortable, with a spectacular view. Staff was curtious and helpful. When we had a problem with the electricity, response was immediate. The minibar is empaty so you can store your stuff in there. Breakfast is excellent (although the coffee is undrinkable, but that's pretty much all over Iceland, not only in hotels).
Review 74:restaurant service on the second night VERY slow--in contrast to night before--maybe they were busy. However food was still wondeful
Review 75:staff, comfort excellent food
Review 76:The hotel was pretty far from town and I would not have liked it if the weather had not been fair for walking. Taxis are dear too!
Review 77:Generally the hotel was a good place to be. Ate in the Restaurant one evening - the service was shocking as there was only one chef at the time and we eventually got our food - by that time we were practically starving - got a free bottle of wine because of this. However, the lamb was excellent as was the rest of our crowd's meal. The food was expensive though. Breakfast was good with a lot of choice.
Review 78:Dirty room. Broken lampshade, shower head, toilet cligged sink didn't drain. Large stains on desk. Funky smelling room. By far the worst in Iceland.
Review 79:The Breakfast
Review 80:strange smell in hotel (near restrourant), kitchen like. during check out: why i have to wait when people at the reception talking with other guest about what to see in RKV\how to rich smth in RKV (about 5min) - it's possible for small home hotel, not for Grant. In Grant shoul be a Concierge
Review 81:buthtub
Review 82:It was a 20 -30 minute walk to downtown Reykjavik, although the hotel provided free shuttle 3x a day thru a taxi service to downtown. It was a good exercise though.
Review 83:The hotel staff were very professional, helpful, and courteous. They responded quickly on some minor issues in our room. The family rooms were spacious and clean. It has nice facilities. It is also close to one of the thermal pools. The breakfast buffet was great!
Review 84:The room overlooking all the busses coming and going.Noisy .
Review 85:The receptionists at the front desk helped us with airline res. during the Iceladair strike.
Review 86:Reception always busy.
Review 87:Good value for money.
Review 88:Nothing
Review 89:Friendly and staff we're really helpful
Review 90:Minor things like little extras in the room, ie coffee, and toiletries.
Review 91:Staff were courteous, nice view from the room. Food good.
Review 92:The staff and the hotel in general.
Review 93:I think this is not a 4 star hotel. The room was very ugly and had no light (i mean enough lamps)
Review 94:Staff at reception desk came off as cold when I first arrived and any time I asked a question at reception it felt as if I was imposing on them.
Review 95:Nothing.
Review 96:Very clean room, very comfy bed, loved the reception area, light & Spacious. Staff were lovely.
Review 97:A little far away from the main shopping district
Review 98:Room is big and clean

Review 132:Great comp. breakfast
Review 133:Limited dinner menu. Spa run by seperate company not as accommodating as hotel staff.
