Reviews for Active Holidays BIG4 Nepean River

Review 1:problem with health and safety had 2 small problems 1 fixed 1 ignored could have caused an accident

Review 2:close to railway station one hour from sydney can travel all week for 60$ on trains buses and ferries

Review 3:Could not find any restaurants close by, but had a great meal at Panthers in nearby Penrith.

Review 4:We arrived after hours and we had received clear instructions as to accessing the room key. Handy for visiting Penrith and the Blue Mountains. Could use the kitchen for self catering.

Review 5:Screaming kids next door and a power cut in the middle of the night ( very difficult when you sleep with a machine ) none of that was the fault of the park though.

Review 6:It was clean, the staff were friendly, nothing was too much trouble and everything we needed was there. Close to shops.

Review 7:The Screen Door did not lock & in extreme warm weather conditions this needs to be addressed ASAP! The Bathroom is that small & if anyone was a larger build would struggle in it. I am a medium built frame Lady. They have not been designed well with thinking of different sized people. My Cabin had 4 beds & is only large enough for 2 people, otherwise it would definitely be too cramped!

Review 8:Besides the 2 out of 3 key facts that are relevant aspects of the negative feedback I did not like, it was an all round pleasant stay for budget accommodation for my Marketing trip. I always travel, either by myself or with my Partner as that is all we need for the basic necessities for accommodation. Is only a 6 minutes walk if you have no mobility issues.

Review 9:I didnt like the room was very small the shower area was tiny , you could hear people next door banging there door opening it each time that went in and out, Not worth $100 per night

Review 10:I liked the pool

Review 11:There was old Sushi in the fridge. Had to reconnect the bedside lamps and clock. Behind the bedside tables and bed heads could use a vacuum.

Review 12:Was clean, inexpensive. The whole experience was easy.

Review 13:The location was a little obscure and difficult to find in the night

Review 14:Ability to check in late. Excellent facilities in the room Clean - lovely towels Very private

Review 15:I found the front staff a bit blunt and not that friendly.

Review 16:I liked the outdoor bbq area which gave a good vibe. I also liked the walking trials that were within the park

Review 17:Firm comfortable beds, decent size coffee mugs, good location, modern facilities. We have stayed here before. We had the motel style room with 2 single beds. Although small, you have everything there you need for an overnight stop.

Review 18:No hot water, and when contacting the park in regards to this after our stay, the response I got was 'thanks we will call an electrician' no compensation, especially when we always stay in BIG4 parks..

Review 19:Cleanliness of cabin

Review 20:Having to empty the trash and if we didn't we had to pay $25, but at the same time like the bins were like two seconds away so it wasn't that difficult

Review 21:Great location from defqon Will most definitely come and stay for longer next year Loved the kitchen and BBQ area Wish it was warm enough I swim the pool looked awesome

Review 22:The extraction fan makes a horrifying, terrible noise it sounds as if the fan is loose and it must have disturbed our neighbours.

Review 23:The very clean feeling as we walked into our studio no 6. As well as plenty of washing machines and dryers, not having to wait on somebody else to finish their washing before you can especially coming back late from work.

Review 24:We were welcomed at reception with a smile and very friendly service. While the room was a little small it as of an excellent standard, clean and had everything we needed. The camp kitchen was great as was the kitchen for the motel rooms. We would have no hesitation on staying there again and would recommend the park to friends and family.

Review 25:The only major issue was that we were told on a warm spring day in early September that the resort style pool (which was a major selling point over other properties for a 2 and 4 year old) was closed for winter and wouldn't open until the 30th or there abouts of September. I would usually have no problem with this however this was the reason we were staying at that location and were not advised on any website (booking.com, active holidays, or big 4) that the pool was closed and hasn't been maintained during the winter months. Disappointing to tell kids who were dressed to swim when they arrived. Overall though not a massive issue and we enjoyed our stay.

Review 26:The staff were fantastic, nothing was too much trouble there was a mess up with the booking not including any children but they were very accommodating to my partners 4 year old that had flown with her from WA. Highly recommended for cost effective holiday for a young family. The bird Avery and chicken coupe were definitely highlights for the kids.

Review 27:We got very cold on the first night, and only had one extra blanket for 2 rooms. The extra blanket did not make any difference. Also so it was very tricky to catch the staff to pay for out accommidation as the Confernce we attended was from 8.30 to 5 each day. This meant that the staff took the final payment off my credit card and not the work card which I had been issued with after I booked in June.

Review 28:Great location, friendly staff and great cabin set up. Very clean, much to my coworkers suprise. She came ready to clean.

Review 29:bed was a little short but was very comfy

Review 30:i liked the friendliness of the staff on the phone, the accomodation was larger than expected for a budget cabin

Review 31:The let down was that the air condition heating was not working which meant my stay was cold in the almost freezing conditions over night and early morning. The shower was also barely Luke warm

Review 32:The room was clean and inviting. I liked the layout of the room and it did not feel cramped. The share kitchen was a bonus and was kept clean and well equiped.

Review 33:The noise coming from Boral at night kept me awake. It was the trucks. Might not be a problem if cabin was further back in the park.

Review 34:The cabin was very comfortable, warm, spacious and modern.

Review 35:Parking of the car in front of the cabin the parking spot was taking up by others even over night.

Review 36:Comfortable beds ,clean,a park with climbing equipment within complex for the children to play and safe. We would love to return in summer to use the pool so inviting.

Review 37:We were told not to expect much in the way of heat from the unit installed in the room and they were right, it did nothing but blow cold air for 12 hrs in the living area. We turned it off and used blankets off the bed for the rest of the stay.

Review 38:Staff accommodated a change in our needs effortlessly, thank you

Review 39:lounge is a bit low for older people and we found it awkward to get out of.

Review 40:We live in a caravan so enjoyed having space to move around, cabin was nice and it was good to relax

Review 41:noise from night construction next door (nothing to do with the caravan park itself)

Review 42:comfortable, room to spread out, cabins close to the entrance for easy in/out

Review 43:steps are slippery to and from cabins could use non slip steps and have hand rails on both sides, no parking for vehicle and trailer needed to unhitch trailer.

Review 44:room clean

Review 45:Nothing you can do about the weather but we had 3 days rain worst in 17 years but after saying that there were no problems with the site everything was fine.

Review 46:in general we liked everything no complaints. we knew there would be trains passing and making a noise but that's partly why we picked this site.

Review 47:Location is in a red neck area. The cabin was clearly dirty and very tiny. Very hard to get the door open key wouldn't fit and turn. Staff very unhelpful and unwelcoming

Review 48:No comment

Review 49:there was to much light coming in of a noght from the emeties block as I was staying in the motel rooms and it was like daylight perhaps you could put some very heavy curtains on that side of the rooma

Review 50:everything

Review 51:On arrival I felt I was intruding, the staff were more interested in their conversations then attending arriving guests. Over the years I must have stayed in over a thousand rooms, but this was the smallest room I have ever been in. The curtains were torn and when drawn they left a gap of about 15cm. No privacy and the security lights flooded the room. Location was between the Prison and the railway line. The only place I have been in that has a sign stating that if you require more toilet paper, they will sell it to you and if any rubbish is left in the rubbish bin a surcharge of $25.00 will apply. Nothing like their web site. An electric jug is not a kitchenette.

Review 52:Leaving

Review 53:Did not get the 2 brm villa accommodation we were promised. Fully booked, so had to make do with old 1 brm cabin. Very cramped.

Review 54:Air cond and cooking facilities.

Review 55:Booked thro' Booking.com in mid Nov. 2104. Changed arrival date to I day later thro Booking.com 1 week before guests arrival. Booking.com did not hear from Nepean & when I rang Nepean was told they had NO VACANCIES!!! Had to contact Big4 head office who found a less favourable cabin at cheaper price. When checked out, was charged original price booked in Nov! Had to complain again. Nepean & Big4 seem to have a MASSIVE communication problem with their admin and booking which is a shame since it spoilt the otherwise easy experience with Booking.com.

Review 56:Good swimming & playground facilities for children. Cabin had all you need, plus BBQ area was good. Nice to be able to walk by the Nepean river and do some fishing.

Review 57:Just didn't have tv reception and all my brother and I wanted to do was settle in and watch the cricket. It served it's purpose though.

Review 58:Park looked well set out

Review 59:The location of our unit this time (we have stayed many times in diffunits according to groups size) was behind the group accom. They arrivedlate causing noise but worst of all they sat outside till well pastmidnight talking and many smoking. Maybe this unit should only be bookedout to smokers - it caused us great discomfort as the smoke driftedinside. I ended up shutting all the windows and turning on the air cond.Disruptive night of sleep. (Wished I still had my old car with remotealarm. I would have used it)

Review 60:Location is good for our purpose. Close to penrith lakes ie. Triathlon.Property could benefit from providing oven/griller instructions -how to turn on.

Review 61:It'd be great to have much better signage, including a few street signs to point the way. I wasn't even sure if we had the right caravan park, got lost a couple of times after turning off the main road, and it maybe needs "Big 4" somewhere right outside for easy recognition...also, it's strange that the River is proudly in the business name but it seems to be hidden away almost like a bit of an embarrassing secret, with no signs. People would possibly make more use of walking over the bridge to Penrith if it was clearly signposted and the area under the bridge cleaned up and made to feel safer. I realise this is not the park's property but I think it would benefit the business. The weeds strangling the bushland in the camping area makes that area look very neglected. It was actually pretty shocking, I've never seen weeds like that on private property, let alone in tourist accommodation! I reckon the poor old riverbank needs a bit of TLC... it was depressing and spooky and I couldn't get out of there fast enough. Also, we were woken at least twice overnight by (I think) staff cars parked on the other side of our bedroom wall, as our cabin was the closest to the office. And sorry to sound so negative, I know the staff are busy with other customers, but I had to wait over ten minutes just to check in, then at least another ten minutes to buy something later that evening. I would have liked to have made a third trip that evening for something, but just couldn't face it, to be honest, and so I didn't go back. It's just too much standing around (I had a child with me) and there's no chair!

Review 62:No Wifi A little bit hard to find this location by Car GPS Inconvenient to come in with car when it is the time outside of the reception

Review 63:Comfortable facilities and wide, clean room

Review 64:Believed we had booked a villa, got a motel room instead, just a bit too small, not even room for a chair. Towels changed daily but no extra bin liners given.

Review 65:Very quiet, clean and modern park. Easily accessible. Great facilities. Would stay here again - in a villa or cabin though

Review 66:I booked a 2 bed park cottage & got a 1 bed pokey cabin. The staff were rude and not helpful at all. Games room locked and kids were not aloud to use it. I will never stay there again and will make sure my friends don't either.

Review 67:The only thing good about this park was the vicinity it was in for what we were there for.

Review 68:the bunk bed were foam, for adults sleeping them is very uncomfortable, and painful for us older folk. The noise of the trains all night.

Review 69:the set up of the park. the room set up.

Review 70:TV too small, considering distance from couch. When we arrived we were shown really tiny accomodation. Staff said that was the accom for that rate. We showed booking sheet which showed reservation was for two bedroom cottage.Staff eventually gave us satisfactory accommodation and there were no more problems.

Review 71:We liked the accomodation we finished up with.

Review 72:Goods train made the room rattle, but you would get used to any other train noise, which is offset by being walking distance to the train station.

Review 73:Location - proximity to the Blue Mountains

Review 74:Tv not working , bit of a problem with people taking up two car spaces may need line markings.

Review 75:Availability to all amenidities cleanliness and friendly staff

Review 76:In a bit of an industrial area even then it was quiet, clean and pretty convenient to the shops - had to drive a couple of minutes....

Review 77:Very good value for money, very clean and comfortable, very well maintained areas, driving distance to shops, Panthers and some good restaurants.

Review 78:Nothing

Review 79:Great accommodation that slept 2 adults and 4 child's under 6 easily, next to railway station with townhall station in Sydney only 55 minutes away, key Blue Mountain attractions only 1 hour drive away, peaceful location

Review 80:Cold showers. Boom gate not opening having a late arrival no one to help out with gaining entry. Parkin spot being used at cabin. had to carry luggage further than necessary.

Review 81:Position location.

Review 82:Trains zooming past through the night. However, having said that, the noise was not obtrusive and was over very quickly.

Review 83:Location - walking distance to Emu Plains station. Also easy access to Motorways and up to the Blue Mountains. Shopping - handy to Penrith and Parramatta shopping centres. Staff - Friendly and helpful.

Review 84:Loved the location the facilities where awesome the staff where all friendly just think that when the office is shut a night contact should be easily visible

Review 85:We were expecting a Kitchenette in our room, the Bathroom was very small, but the shared Kitchen was OK, When booking it should have a detail of each room, it was more a Motel room not a cabin.

Review 86:Location, staff very helpful, room clean, cost per night very reasonable for Penioners

Review 87:Being right next to the group cottage with a group of soccer kids running a muck and keeping us up until close to midnight when we had a 5am start.

Review 88:Nice and cosy with good facilities.

Review 89:There is a train line right near the motel and all night there were large freight trains running past every 15-20 mins which made it difficult to sleep. Also the motel is right underneath very high voltage power lines

Review 90:Very affordable accommodation for the area. I found it reasonably accessible to penrith with a car though if you didn't have a car it is nearby a train station. The staff were very helpful with regard to my late check in.

Review 91:The unit we booked wasn't available due to a fault in the booking system. The park is right on a train line where trains ran nearly all night.

Review 92:Units were clean and tidy

Review 93:The noise from the train line in the villas was too loud but the newer cottages seemed to be better insulated.

Review 94:Great location to shops and the Blue Mountains.

Review 95:Office did not open until 9am Sunday morning, and didn't like the idea of leaving key in an unlocked letter box, where anyone could gain access to boom gate and re-enter room after vacating

Review 96:Close to family function had to attend No issues after booking online Stayed in motel suite, and attached kitchen fully equipped Staff friendly

Review 97:Very noisy crowd Saturday morning - seem oblivious to other people might wanting to sleep. Office not open till 9am.

Review 98:The cabin is well designed and clean. Appreciated the soap container for hand washing - saves opening a cake of soap for a few hand washes. Thought it might be noisy due to being near a railway line but it had no impact on me. Bed is comfy and had a great sleep. Well equip and clean kitchen for basic meals. Handy still to have own bar fridge in room. Within short drive to large shopping centre or walk to other shops. Close to interesting venues and sites.

Review 99:Loved the 2 bedroom cottage with a large fridge, excellent kitchen facilities all immaculately clean. Cottage was beautifully presented with stunning quality and design. This would definitely be the best place in terms of acomodation we have stayed at during the past 30 years. Well done, staff were lovely too.

Review 100:The noise from the neighbouring cabin. I certainly didn't expect to hear footfall of people walking in their cabin. Worse though was when they argued.

Review 101:We had one of the new cabins which was very nicely appointed.

Review 102:no information in room informing location of kitchen

Review 103:motel room guest kitchen well laid park kitchen has every thing one needs to cook a meal and is very clean.Room very comfortable and clean.

Review 104:Right next to the railway line and right under main overhead powerlines and roon was right next to main garbage bins for the whole area - hit the trifecta!. Worst place I have ever stayed in - EVER.

Review 105:2nd bedroom turned out to be a passage way with 3 bunks, we had an adult child, was awkward for her to use i.e. getting in and out, and cramped

Review 106:It was quiet when we were there, very clean and tidy.

Review 107:I liked it because it is out of the main town of penrith just across the bridge aproxx 2mins . we liked our stay at the nepean village very quite and friendly place with every thing you need . Would recommend it highly to other travelers . Thanks

Review 108:Staying here made our holiday so much better. Accommodation great handy to areas we wanted to visit. Staff made another unit available when other family stayed over. Unit very clean and very friendly helpful staff. Thankyou once again.

Review 109:Unfortunately we didn't get to meet any of the staff with a late arrival and early departure but I spoke with a staff member by phone, received my email with the code to collect our key and left in the morning with ease. I was travelling with two teenage boys and they were very impressed with our cottage! Wish we had more time in the daylight to have a better look at the village. Maybe next time?!

Review 110:the lack of a ramp to access the office as I cant climb steps without considerable pain I would have thought that in this day and age disabled access would have been compulsory

Review 111:I found the hot water ran out very quickly, we were in a 2 bedroom cottage that slept 12 people and there wasn't sufficient hot water for everyone to shower at the same time....

Review 112:It was close to all the sights we went to see... It was quiet and comfortable....the accommodation was clean and new.....the staff went out of their way to accomodate us when our booking was mucked up by another site....

Review 113:I loved the fact that it was very clean very quite and well looked after village. I would recommend this place to all my friends and family. I also would stay there again. The staff were all lovely and accommodating.

Review 114:i was not impressed with the partying going on outside my cabin (69)on saturday the 19th it continued till at leaste 3am in the morning and no one told them to keep it down,i had a 1 year old with me it was waking him up all night.surely there had to be a cut of with noise

Review 115:service was great, park was great, price was great,

Review 116:The cabin was very cold with just a small AC unit for warming and no heating in the shower. Located just next to a train line, it can be quite noisy. Nothing much interesting in the immediate vicinity, but a good launch pad for a trip to the Blue mountains.

Review 117:It's a caravaning ground with basic amenities (bbq, mini store, but no prepared food -- not even breakfast). The cabin was clean. Staff was helpful; be sure to call them if you plan to arrive out of business hours.

Review 118:The trains going past. Bit noisy. The heater in our cabin didn't work sufficiently. It struggled. Need to improve. not enough utensils and furnishings for the larger group cabins.

Review 119:Staff really helpful. Close to the train station. Really really clean facilities. Would stay there again.

Review 120:The air conditioning was not working on heat . We froze that night in our single beds. I must have forgotten to ask for a double beds . So it was a unpleasant stay.

Review 121:Next ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Review 122:Cabin was too cramped for me and my daughter

Review 123:Kitchen facility excellent

Review 124:Friendliness of lady at reception.

Review 125:Modern,clean,comfortable bungalow, friendly staff, value for money.

Review 126:N/A

Review 127:It was very suitable for my needs.

Review 128:All good.

Review 129:Staff were friendly & helpful,cabin cleanliness,pool had shade.

Review 130:Aircon didn't cool room. It was dirty. It was very depressing area.

Review 131:central to all our needs friendly and clean

Review 132:Train track at back of cabin where bedroom is, so a it noisy

Review 133:Basic but comfortable

Review 134:Simple to check in n out.
