Reviews for Vila Gale Tavira
Review 1:christmas music played on the musac system all the time,[we were there 3 weeks which got very boring]. Same loop over and over and over and over............................................................................................! Also same in Ampulius, Vilamoura!!
Review 2:Room decoration & facilities slightly outdated.
Review 3:Friendly staff. Reasonable location, short walking distance to the center of Tavira. Great breakfast. Swimming pool. Ask for a room viewing the swimming pool, the ones outside might be quite noisy.
Review 4:Our experience of the evening meals was slightly mixed. Some of the meals were good others less so. The main issue was that some of the meat dishes and also some salad and vegetable dishes were covered in far too much oil for our taste. The buffet was generally the better option.
Review 5:The hotel was very conveniently located for visiting the old town of Tavira. We stayed over the Christmas period on a room and breakfast basis although we did have the evening meals at the hotel on several nights. The rooms were quite reasonably appointed and had pleasant views overlooking the Old Town. The buffet breakfast was very good with a wide choice of hot and cold dishes. We were happy with the facilities. Overall it represented very good value for money.
Review 6:Being British, we would have liked a kettle to make tea in the room, without having to ask for it.
Review 7:Good location. Very good breakfast and dinner buffets.
Review 8:Firstly, our room was a rather long walk from the lift. Secondly, I cannot believe that the hotel was full, so why put a family with two young children right beside us?
Review 9:The hotel is fantastic, even out of season. The breakfast is plentiful and varied, and the rooms comfortable. The spa is great too!
Review 10:Nothing.
Review 11:Excellent sauna and indoors pool for winter time. Perfect comfort and cleanliness of bedrooms. Quality and profusion of breakfast. Location by the market. Free and easy parking. Excellent value for money.
Review 12:Vast space in the hotel gave an empty cold feeling. Had to ask for tea and coffee making facility. Only 1 t bag was supplied between 2 people and wasn't replenished the next day.
Review 13:Mostly satisfactory.
Review 14:impersonal checkin... too busy?
Review 15:Room cleanliness and size, location, price, pool, cleaning staff were very kind and friendly... hard workers, grounds, quietness.mood, shopping boutique,
Review 16:The location was not ideal and there were coach loads of people arriving and leaving every day. The restaurant was always crowded and you had to queue several times to get your breakfast.
Review 17:Staff was very helpful
Review 18:Charge for garage parking is a little steep.
Review 19:Good location for sightseeing and boat to Tavira island. Only ate breakfast in hotel and food was good. Loved the pool. Had love.y view from room.
Review 20:Very easy to be disturbed the walls are paper thin and you can hear everything from adjoining rooms - even snoring! The hotel is rather tired, bar area not very welcoming All could do with a revamp
Review 21:lunch when arrived was not good - chickenburger was like plastic - previously had checked fillet. Secondly sadly the rain and feel Tavira has more closed shops and restaurants now
Review 22:Like the hotel as stayed many times before and love the pools and reception staff. Excellent breakfast experience
Review 23:Sometimes the rooms were not cleaned until after lunch it only happened once or twice
Review 24:Very helpful staff excellent breakfast and we had dinner there one evening excellent. We had g/son and daughter as well for a few days. Also found staff wonderful seemed to like child (1 yr) old.
Review 25:Everything was fine excepting for the beds which were rather hard & uncomfortable.
Review 26:Good, quiet location close to town centre. Pleasant outdoor pool area to relax.
Review 27:I did not like; *The over abundance of short stay (mostly unfriendly) German guests who are constantly rise early and noisily for their never ending excursions completely destroys any idea of a long relaxing holiday. *Having to pay a daily fee for a key to lock the room safe, this is something I have never paid anywhere else in the world and must be a Vila Gale exclusive!! The €7/day car parking charge is ridiculous when free parking is available directly outside the hotel.
Review 28:Excellent staff, spotlessly clean, good quality food, provision of a kettle when requested.
Review 29:The restaurant was very large, with so many people it was extremely noisey. Maybe Have two seatings, 6.30 and 8.00pm, that would make it more pleasant and enjoyable.
Review 30:Spacious reception area, good swimming pool, plenty of sun beds. Corridors clean and well carpeted.
Review 31:Although we had asked for a quiet room we were given a room directly over the bar, with a singer very audible till after 11.30pm. Fortunately we were able to move to a genuinely quiet room the next day. Everything else was great apart from the lack of (a) a free modern room safe - it cost 20 euros for a removable lock and key for 8 nights; (b) UK-style jams such as raspberry with breakfast - the hotel only had pumpkin, orange (both very bland to our taste) or tomato! and (c) biscuits or crackers for the cheese after dinner. The hotel's feedback form didn't allow space for any detailed suggestions like these.
Review 32:Lovely pool, comfortable room and beds, helpful staff, kettle and cups etc on request. Breakfast OK with a good range of most foods; we only ate in the restaurant on one evening but this too was fine. A good location, handy for the town and its many places to eat and for the ferry to the beach; as keen birdwatchers we also enjoyed walks alongside the nearby saltpan works.
Review 33:Some areas such as the bar and breakfast were understaffed .
Review 34:The hotel is situated within very easy reach of the town and all facilities .The pool area is super as is the pool. All staff were friendly .The choice of food at breakfast was vast .
Review 35:Wi fi limited to public areas. Bar area could do with a bit of a face lift.
Review 36:Staff were efficient and friendly providing an excellent service. Pool fab and location couldn't be better.
Review 37:The lack of entertainment at night; guests didn't seem to stay in bar it was always very quiet the entertainment provided didn't attract an audience
Review 38:The hotel was clean; in a good location the breakfast was excellent; good selection on offer didn't dine there in the evening as it was always a theme night which didn't suit us.
Review 39:Wifi didn't work in my room. Too hard mattress. Gym is a joke with old, broken equipment. Soundproofing is non - existing: noisy guests in the corridors will wake up the whole hotel. Dirty, smelly carpets in the corridors.
Review 40:Nice pool. Good breakfast. Nice small patio outside room.
Review 41:The wifi was weak.
Review 42:Great location and so easy to navigate around Tavira from this base. Nice room facing the pool. Staff were really helpful and friendly and pool was lovely.
Review 43:Feeble wifi signal in the room, late room cleaning (often colliding with a post-lunch nap) and the extra fee for using the parking lot.
Review 44:Excelent location - very near the city centre, helpful staff and very good meals.
Review 45:People putting towels on sunbeds and coming back at a later hour. This practice should be stopped. Patrons should e advised that any sun-lounger not occupied for a period of x minutes can be taken over
Review 46:Breakfast
Review 47:We expected 4 star and this was 2-3 Rooms basic and not cleaned to a standard we would have expected Pool area had lots of loungers but mostly claimed with towels by 9 am
Review 48:We used the breakfast buffet daily which was excellent and once for evening meal also excellent
Review 49:Dark inside. bad food. No Good service. Not value for Money at all. Good was the pool and the location. Never this Hotel Again. Glad we Only stayed two night. The Town was Beautiful and so was the weather.
Review 50:Staff are young and slow, wifi is poor, Food is mediocre ! Charge for use of safe , when it's listed as a room facility ? And a kids club running all day around the pool, constantly asking if you want to join in, with more staff than participants !
Review 51:Nice pool , relatively new hotel , rooms are large , good location. Bar and facilities okay.
Review 52:Surprised at paper, leaves and what looked like hair on the bottom of the pool at 09:00 am. Couldn't find stairs when lifts were busy. Software systems were slow, leading to queues of people wanting to pay bills, buy drinks, etc.
Review 53:Helpful, courteous staff. Clean and spacious rooms. Location in town centre yet with easy parking and access. Excellent buffet breakfast (other meals not taken)
Review 54:Would have liked tea/coffee making facilities in room but had to ask at reception for a kettle subject to availability
Review 55:Good location for walking to town and not far to ferry to get to isle for beach
Review 56:Some serving staff (minority) spoke little or poor english. Plenty of games staff around the pool but need one to monitor the area regarding broken glass and blown over brollies and general usage of that area.
Review 57:Lovely pool and indoor one as well with spa facilities free. internet use free as well as wifi. Food and drinks reasonably priced for a hotel.
Review 58:Room cleaning not done until after we arrived back at 16 30 each day . On the day of our checkout we asked to have a 13 00 checkout instead of 12 00 but without consideration was told no !
Review 59:Good central hotel very clean , breakfast good plenty available, pool very clean , staff around hotel very friendly.
Review 60:Nothing
Review 61:Superb location within walking distance of bars, restaurants and short walk to ferry to the island. Breakfast was very good, staff friendly and nice pool area, Not spoiled by people reserving loungers unnecessarily . Bar prices also reasonable.
Review 62:There wasn't wifi in our room despite what was advertised. It was extremely difficult to print out boarding passes and water took ages to heat up. I don't think this hotel deserves four stars by international standards, sorry. Good 3 star though.
Review 63:Certain staff members were so helpful when called upon (others not so much). Breakfast was very good and it was quiet so got good sleep for the week. Has a spa and gym but didn't use it.
Review 64:This was our 12th year to stay in Vile Gale hotel. As always we loved every moment the stay. From the moment we arrived the staff made us feel welcome and relaxed. We love this hotel and look forward to our next visit.
Review 65:We had a room on the front really noisy with the buses turning up early in the morning and leaving engines running sometimes for half an hour and really noisy Germans was the only thing that spoilt the hotel . Have been there three times and had been wonderful up until now.
Review 66:No major complaints - just a few comments. When we were staying at the hotel, it seemed to be mainly full of 'older' guests, who were travelling via large tour groups. This was not an issue at all, but what we didn't like was the annoying holiday rep type guys (who were hotel staff), who kept trying to arrange organised activities. We did not appreciate being accosted by dressed up holiday reps during breakfast who tried to make us join in silly games. It was a shame as an otherwise very luxurious and classy hotel gave off slightly 'Butlins' holiday camp type vibes. But once we grolwed at them a couple of times, they got the message and stopped bugging us. Another tiny issue was that although the hotel had lots of facilities, they weren't easy to find. There is a lovely indoor pool and sauna, but unless you are actually looking for it, it's not easy to find. Wi-fi is sort of available in some of the communal areas, but not in the rooms. And even in the communal areas, it could be rather weak if the hotel was busy. Beware if you arrive in Tavira by coach (to the coach station) and you don't have some sort of transport arranged to get you to the hotel. There is no taxi rank and very few taxis in the town. The hotel is only a short walk (maybe ten minutes) from the coach station, but if you're hot and lugging heavy suitcases and not sure which way to go, it's not ideal. (And yes - this is what happened to us. We arrived by coach as we had spent the first few days of our holiday in Lisbon. We arrived at Tavira coach station expecting to be able to get a taxi to the hotel. But there were no taxis anywhere to be seen. We were very fortunate that a sympathetic local gentleman offered to walk us to our hotel!)
Review 67:Beautiful hotel with wonderfully friendly and helpful staff. The hotel itself is located right in the middle of the town so is just a few minutes walk from everything. Tavira is actually a much larger town that we thought, but there is a little train which stops right outside the hotel and does a tour of the town, and there are tuktuks in the town centre which will do personal guided tours for a few euros. The hotel itself is lovely. Sparkling clean. Very comfy beds and spacious rooms, most (if not all) with a balcony. The buffet breakfast is vast and caters for everyone. All in all, a perfect hotel in a perfect location. We will defintely be coming back!
Review 68:Breakfast was very busy and although they supposedly served until 10.30, by 9.30 they were frantically clearing things away and there was such bustle that it made for a rather agitated eating experience and not a calm, restful start to the day. You felt that you had to eat up and clear out as quickly as you could.
Review 69:Super location with plenty of parking available. Lovely little pool which wasn't too busy in May, with comfortable loungers.
Review 70:Whilst we were being entertained by a local Portuguese dance troup who were absolutely wonderful unfortunately a football match was being shown in the same area which I found to be very off putting and disrespectful to other holiday makers and the dance group as we were enjoying being entertained by them but had to endure shouts and roars from the football followers. I feel this should have been shown in another room as there were plenty to choose from.
Review 71:Brilliantly situated for getting around the hotel was more than I expected.
Review 72:Great breakfast, much improved on previous stays, with omelets, eggs and pancakes cooked on demand. Great choice. Lovely fresh bread. Excellent value for money. We will be back again. Very convenient for the town and the river
Review 73:had requested certain area of hotel for rooms but the hotel was unable to provide these - but it was Easter holiday so it is understandable. In the past staff have 9 times out of 10 been able to accommodate room requests.
Review 74:Staff and accommodation always very good. rooms clean.
Review 75:I always comment on the poor coffee at Vila Gale Hotels.
Review 76:It is atop rate hotel in a beautiful town close to some good value Restaurants, and very handy for Golf.
Review 77:Rooms were clean, spacious with comfortable beds and good breakfast. The location is just perfect in between the center and ferry boat to ilha tavira. Nice staff.
Review 78:Stairs at one end of the pool....no good for proper swimming! Otherwise nothing to dislike about the place
Review 79:Everything except the stairs at one end of the pool....no good for proper swimming!
Review 80:The a la carte menu was not good value for money. The tenderloin steak was very small for €22. Seats in restaurant very uncomfortable.
Review 81:General layout of the rooms, the fact that you can smoke on the balcony and the friendly ness of the staff.
Review 82:We had dinner and breakfast in the hotel. The food was OK (plain) but the Portuguese know how to cook better than this. The hotel was very empty - 10% booked (?) - which made it very quiet which can be a good or a boring thing.
Review 83:The staff was most friendly and service-minded. We got a very good off-season offer of Euro 54 for 2 persons one night. Dinner for 2 included a free bottle of red wine.
Review 84:Stay was too short. Just one night.
Review 85:Close to city centre and Tavira beach. Excellent Restaurants and bars nearby. Loved experiencing the town by walking the streets of Tavira.
Review 86:Hotel seemed not to busy so it would have been nice to have a room not to close to noisy room next door Other than that we will return defo thankyou
Review 87:Staff very helpfull Great location Very clean
Review 88:As there were so few people in the hotel the evening meal was limited in choice - one evening it was a la carte the other a buffet.Neither very good or good value for oney. The rest of the fortnight I eat out as there is a good choice of places. I chose to go to the restaurant at Briso de Rio overlooking the river for Xmas lunch and New Year's eve dinner and both occasions were great. It was also my favourite place for a beer and to read in the afternoon sun.
Review 89:The hotel buffet breakfast is good. My twin room with a view of the pool was great, and the shower had constant hot water and great flow. The hotel plaans to have wifi in the bodrooms in future: at present it is available free only in the public areas.
Review 90:The hamam is a bit outdated, the breakfast buffet is definitely 3-star.
Review 91:This is a hotel closer to 3 stars, although 4 sars shine up in the description. Nevertheless, clean and spacious rooms, nice in-door and out-door pools, nice bar, good value for money. So, who cares about stars ?
Review 92:The buffet evening meal was disappointing, vegetables were cold even at beginning of service, and the meats did not have much taste. At the price charged would expect much better
Review 93:Staff are all very pleasant and welcoming. The bar is a comfortable place to sit, the snacks are good. Was very pleased to discover wifi is now available free in room. Parking is easy, on road.
Review 94:Breakfast buffet hot food was nearly always cold. The plate warmers were either not working or not switched on
Review 95:Good location on the edge of the salt pans(good for twitchers) an easy walk to the atmospheric old town, with shops restaurants and bars nearby.
Review 96:Nice size town with friendly locals. Town is not just a tourist resort so most places open year round. Nice small shopping centre & shops. Medical centres very helpful and good. Good transport. Car hire during winter can be very cheap from Faro airport
Review 97:The room was not too clean and the spa was very unclean - black mould in the pool and on the steps up to the jacuzzi, which we just could not use. The hotel overall needs a good refurbushment. A couple of staff members were just not only not polite they were borderline rude. We did complain at check out but felt it was a waste of time. You also had to pay for WIFI. The hotel is a 2 star! I would definitely not stay again.
Review 98:At the moment of check in, in the reception, mr Joseph after 30 minuteswaiting, ask us to wait other 30 minutes for the checkin becouse heisn't able to do it....my wife is pregnant at 6 mounth!!!...very badfor a 4 stars hotel...I Ask to speak with the boss and mr Josephsay:" I am the boss, you can't speak with nobody"...
Review 99:Hotel clean and very confortable....Marina Luis was able to resolve aproblem in an easy way. ..She offered us a dinner and than a bottle ofprosecco....perfect!
Review 100:This hotel was a relaxing break with good facilites. It is resort, but not hectic and noisy. It has a big pool and excellent breakfast. Close to old town and ferry to the beach.
Review 101:Evening restaurant very noisy like a school canteen. Tuna steak I had was overcooked and sweet potatoes not good. Breakfasts were excellent and good selection.
Review 102:Hard mattress, spongy pillows. Breakfast has been the same for 8 years. Limited choice and one tired toaster and one coffee machine for 100+ people at a sitting. WIFI not available in room unless you pay a supplement.
Review 103:Friendly, helpful staff. Very handy for walk into the main part of town where all the great restaurants are. Courtesy bus to sister hotel by the sea. Safe underground parking (albeit at a charge). Good aircon.
Review 104:Push and shove at Buffet meal times by crowds of rude, selfish and greedy patrons (not UK) who arrived by coach for one or two nights. In the evening we opted for a le carte meal in the separate dining area but because of the large number of patrons taking buffet evening meal they were incorporated in the separate area. Complaints to the staff were ignored even though we paid extra for the privilege.
Review 105:Efficient/friendly staff and accommodation.
Review 106:Bedroom was tardy looking, and the bed was uncomfortable.Breakfast room was a bit drab.
Review 107:Nice hotel, friendly staff, good location for the centre of town and ferry crossing point.
Review 108:Night club across the road blasted music till after 04.00. Had to shut the window but could still hear it. Not the hotel's fault, I appreciate, but on a Saturday night it would be better to make sure your room is not near it.
Review 109:We have stayed in the Vila Gale hotel Tavira eleven times over the last 10 years. We love this hotel for it's location, it's staff and it's relaxed atmosphere. We have just returned from a perfect two weeks and are already looking forward to our next visit. Many thanks to all in VGT for making us so feel so welcome each return trip.
Review 110:This hotel lacked warmth, I felt it was more about money then pleasing a guest, staff seemed unhappy except for one that I can remember. I hate buffet food and find it so impersonal, when you pay these prices and no free wi fi in rooms it not good. I will try for a guest house in future.
Review 111:Great location, clean and rooms great.
Review 112:The beds could have been more comfortable and the air con unit did not really get the room cool even though it ran (noisily) through the night. Rooms did not get made up until quite late in the day.
Review 113:Breakfast was very good with a wide selection of hot and cold food, the pool was great and not over crowded even though the hotel was full. Parking in the underground car park was convenient. Reception was particularly good.
Review 114:only the fact that there were so many guests at the hotel while I was there... so, it's not really hotel's fault, right? :)
Review 115:breakfast is very good; staff is very helpful and friendly; location is excellent; garage is also quite handy (even if not free of charge); pool is good size; rooms are large enough
Review 116:The noise, on our first night there was a party going on at 3.30 in the morning for a couple of hours, our appartment was middle floor bad mistake people above us seem to spend their holiday moving furniture around why? Did not like the black plastic chairs and sun beds very uncomfortable and lots of unruly kids running around shouting. The pool was ok. Some staff quite rude and condescending. The balcony doors cannot be opened from the outside so don't close the door if you are on your own, and the air con broke. There were ants all around the tele table.
Review 117:The location was perfect near the ferry for the beach and in the middle of the lovely authentic town. The breakfast food was nice but extremely busy. The rooms were kept quite clean and very spacious, the bathroom was roomy .
Review 118:Mattress bit thin but okay Wifi free only in lobby Room facing petrol station
Review 119:Location and easy, ample parking. Fantastic variety of breakfast. Spacious large pool Good sized room very clean & cosy Great heated indoor pool & jacuzzi Even in summer.
Review 120:Air Conditioning in room did not work. The fan barely blew air and despite setting the thermostat to 17C, the room did cool down. We slept with only a bed sheet on top of us as we were both hot at night
Review 121:Pool area is good
Review 122:Reception staff were poor at times and quite rude. Music by the pool - same five songs on repeat for a few days. Headwreck. Charge for the room safe. No wifi in the rooms unless you pay. No full length mirrors in the rooms. Also have to ask for an iron.
Review 123:Pool area, breakfast, location, air conditioning, price were all very good. Very comfy beds, immaculate gardens. Very spacious interior. Rooms cleaned every day. TV had 70+ channels, 30+ were English speaking. Very quiet at night. Mainly Portuguese holiday makers.
Review 124:Busy time as we were there, no loungers by the pool, room get done only every other day, no answer for room service.Hotel was not up to our expectations! Definitely not a 4* Hotel!!!
Review 125:The location.
Review 126:Very hard bedding. Overcrowded restaurant. Overall atmosphere in the hotel is like in a hospital! Unpleasant bar.
Review 127:Location close to the old city. Clean room and spacious bathroom. Nice pool and enough chairs.
Review 128:Very noisy, request a room on one of the wings. Hotel invaded by young people attending a competition. When we commented on the noise ( couldn't sit by pool or swim due to them playing football, staff said hotel full!! So they don't care whether your stay has been good Ate in restaurant 1 night. Very poor, smells of frying and was very expensive 22Euros for buffet food!
Review 129:Location and breakfast good. 2 minutes from river and bars and restaurants
Review 130:A bit too sterile that isn't quite in keeping with the vibe of Tavira for us.
Review 131:Great place for a family with all the facilities including great pool
Review 132:smoking on balconies and around pool . very annoying should be restricted to outside front of hotel . or totally non smoking. spoilt a lovely holiday.
Review 133:Layout of spa facilities
Review 134:Location
Review 135:We have always loved everything about the hotel, and we were also very pleased that we had great weather for the time of year
