Reviews for De Barones Van Leyden
Review 1:Wonderful find. Brilliant location, right on the canal. Charming helpful staff. Great room (over 2 floors) - with its own little balcony. Loved it all
Review 2:We found it confusing knowing what the situation was when no staff member was present.
Review 3:Small and cosy, comfortable place to stay. It is in a good location, for us to visit family, and close to centre of town.
Review 4:Streams of bicycles going by make crossing nearby streets rather hazardous. Not the hotel's fault and manageable, with caution.
Review 5:Friendly, helpful staff; beautiful and spacious room; delicious breakfasts; excellent restaurants nearby
Review 6:Great location right opposite one of the small canals. Hotel owner was very helpful, even sent us advance warning that a big fair was taking place that weekend and that most major roads into town were blocked. Room was excellent and in immaculate condition. Breakfast buffet was not huge, but had everything we wanted. And the service - including getting a dozen red roses for my girlfriend's birthday on a Saturday afternoon - exceeded expectations. We'll be back for sure.
Review 7:Staff very welcoming, helpful & informative. Hotel was clean, comfortable & quirky with everything we needed and was in a nice central location, a minute's walk from the main shopping area.
Review 8:There were only two things that need improving: 1) there is very little place in the bathroom to put stuff and (2) The breakfast, was very tasty and had allot of options however the service was a bit slow and inexperienced.
Review 9:The room and bed were amazing, as was the hotel itself, and the staff very friendly.
Review 10:The staff helped us arrange bicycles to hire from a shop close by. Unfortunately we had to store the bikes at a building some 10 minutes' walk away. They were always very helpful, but it was a bit inconvenient.
Review 11:Great view over the canal from our room.Good bathroom.
Review 12:Even though it is understandable that a small establishment like this tries to be frugal with spending money on food that your guests won't eat, it was a bit of a let-down to arrive at an empty breakfast buffet, that was nonetheless refilled just for us, because we were after all hungry. This made me feel guilty and a bit awkward, as we were the last guests to eat. Would have expected a bit more for 8,50 on top of an already big price.
Review 13:Beautiful old building, really in Leiden-style. Owners are genuinely friendly people that care about their business and are rightfully proud of their beautiful building.
Review 14:The two-level suite located in a beautiful 17th century villa newly restored with lots of paintings, stylish furniture and little loggia. Really very nice and helpful staff. Pretty and convenient location. Very clean and well kept property. WiFi working well. I could'n have made a better choice of accomodation for my staying in Leiden.
Review 15:Loved our two storey room with a terrace and a lovely sitting room. The bed was large and comfortable....not twins just pushed together as you so often get in Europe. Romantic and terrific location on canal near marina.....easy walk into historic attractions in town.
Review 16:Location is slightly out of town center. And splitting hairs, but at breakfast the manager is also the server and the cook. So don't be rushed for breakfast.
Review 17:Comfortable, spacious room with several reading chairs; Beautiful room view over canals; Charming decor; Staff is wonderfully proficient in english and very friendly. Overall, a refreshing alternative to the larger hotels.
Review 18:Having to go home :-(
Review 19:Wonderful small-scale boutique hotel with a very elegant and European old world feel. I loved the stylish rooms and everything was neat & clean. The staff were just as charming as the hotel itself. By the way, if you're coming in from Schiphol Airport I definately recommend their hotel taxi service!
