Reviews for Best Western City Hotel Leiden

Review 1:It is definitely not the best hotel of Best Western. We were given a room on the fourth floor with a broken wardrobe and a broken glass in the window, but they have changed it without any troubles on our request. The room on the second floor was ok, but the bathroom could be cleaner. The breakfast was quite poor.

Review 2:The hotel is located in the heart of the city, very close to the main attractions and 10-minute walk to the central station

Review 3:We can hear the noise from the neighbouring rooms - bad sound isolation The bed is larger than the base we have a pilar in the middle of the room and in front of the door Breakfast is pretty ordinary

Review 4:Good wifi - probably because our rooms are very close to the router

Review 5:Only ne thing: there was no table lamp to read a book before sleeping....I asked the receptionist, but nothing changed...

Review 6:1) In the historical center of Leiden 2) Very clean 3) Great breakfast

Review 7:Location was great right in the centre of the old town. The staff were very helpful. It wasn't your typical Best Western but fit in nicely with the surroundings.

Review 8:Very poor internet connection (slow, small bandwidth, and often failing). Lack of shower curtain and poor ventilation in the bathroom meant that after taking a shower it took hours for the bathroom to dry.

Review 9:Very nice location (near centrum without being too noisy), comfortable bedroom, adequate breakfast.

Review 10:The bathroom really needs help. There is no shower curtain but that is not the problem. There is no ventilation and the bathroom is very musty.

Review 11:Location and staff were great.

Review 12:It was quite dark in the hotel, the lights were reduced. There is a machine for different types of juice at the breakfast, but by pressing any bottom only water is coming out.

Review 13:Don't book room 411 when the weather us warm it is unbearable and the aircon doesn't work adequately. In fact I will make a point of NOT booking a room on the forth floor again

Review 14:Location and staff dealt with our complaints swiftly

Review 15:bedroom had 3 single beds (we were 2 people not sharing a bed) - room was very cramped, could hardly walk round the beds to get to & from bathroom, bad lighting, room not very clean. last time I stayed was better. noisy. internet connection sporadic

Review 16:very central location

Review 17:Fittings etc. are tired. The electronic door locks are temperamental. Lighting throughout is insufficient. The breakfast room is too cramped.

Review 18:Quiet situation although central. Bed was comfortable with nice linen in bathroom. The roof-top terrace was a lovely surprise.

Review 19:The room was dirty so they relocated me in another one, which was… dirty. Dirt everywhere. Beds with big scratches and so soft I wondered where the hell they got those beds. Furniture of poor quality. Of all, only the bathroom and the wifi was fair. Air conditioning was not working either. Had to move elsewhere. I can't understand how this can be a Best Western.

Review 20:Having to wait until 3pm to get into my room. The window of my room (307) opened onto an area which included a chimney vent, perhaps from the kitchen. It was noisy, so I couldn't have my window open.

Review 21:Good location, friendly staff.

Review 22:The room had no windows, except for a small and high one that could be only partially opened, no ventilation in the bathroom. As it was on the uppest floor (4th) the room was pretty hot.

Review 23:Quiet area in the very centre of the town, very kind personnel, good room. Wifi worked well.

Review 24:The air conditioner broke down, the Wifi didn't work and the owners booked a noisy party downstairs one night that went on until after 1am. An appallingly run hotel.

Review 25:Leiden is a wonderful town and the hotel is located well enough

Review 26:The mattresses were as soft as marshmallows, a lightbulb in the bathroom was burnt out and never fixed, and the room safe was broken and never fixed. The hotel manager insisted he checked the room and it was fine, but it wasn't and we never saw him again--so, our tough luck I guess.

Review 27:Nothing.

Review 28:Quite close to the train station and in the heart of the historic area. Our double room was upgraded to a triple room so was very spacious with view of the beautiful Marekerk right through the big windows. Breakfast was included in the price and had variety of sausages, bacon, many types of ham, bread and juices.

Review 29:lighting was generally rather dim. As older guests we need brighter light especially in the room. The two mattresses were some 20 cm apart and meant that to sit on the edge of the bed was likely to lead to slipping off on to the floor. This happened to me during the night resulting in me falling out of bed!

Review 30:Male receptionist at checkin and checkout was very helpful and efficient. Did not see info on parking possibilities on website but arrangements explained on arrival were a very pleasant surprise!

Review 31:Room door was tricky to open (there is a problem with the door handle). Shower drain was clogged. No shower curtains - can get the entire room flooded if you don't put a towel on the floor to avoid it. The room was quite small for the amount of furniture it had. Mattress was average, but could be better. I have seen hostel accommodations that were better than this hotel. Breakfast was below par.

Review 32:The staff is really friendly and helpful. Wi-Fi works smoothly. Good quality TV set, good heating system. Great location.

Review 33:The hotel is located in the centre of the city but offers a quiet atmosphere. The room was clean and the bed very comfortable. The breakfast offered a reasonable variety food. The staff were friendly and welcoming.

Review 34:Breakfast was basic - no choice of fruit yogurts, cold hard boiled eggs (ugh!), cold cooked food, very little cereal choice. Breakfast room needs upgraded. Bedroom was small, only one chair for a couple, and a useless pedestal table which was frankly in the way. Shower, as others have said, makes the bathroom all wet.

Review 35:The location of this hotel was perfect for visiting Leiden. Wifi worked.

Review 36:Expected better quality of decor and toilet facilities --overall very simple decor

Review 37:Staff was really good The location was 7 mins from Leiden Central and 3-4 mins walk from City centre Breakfast was quite good

Review 38:The staff were incredibly welcoming and warm. The value at the restaurant, Table 7 I believe, cannot be beat for the quality of food. The location is fantastic, a short walk to the main shopping street and a few more steps to the main canal of town. It was memorable.

Review 39:Was suprised how basic this hotel was for a Best Western. Mismatching furniture in the small lobby, a small room with no space to move, nowhere to put a case, a random light fitting with no bulb in the middle of the wall, cheapest ikea lights hanging over the beds etc. I paid hardly any more for a lovely boutique hotel in Amsterdam.

Review 40:Breakfast was good, the rooms were clean, beds were comfy and the location was excellent.

Review 41:We missed a shower curtain in our bathroom, this would have prevented a wet floor.

Review 42:Helpfull and friendly staff, nice room with Leiden centre rooftop view. Car parking facilities just outside city centre with convenient bus shuttle service operated by the city of Leiden. Hotel provided attractive car parking rates.

Review 43:The bar maid served me ice for my drink by picking up crushed ice in her hand, squashing it and putting in into my glass! Breakfast kitchen staff looked very unfriendly.

Review 44:The receptionists were very friendly.

Review 45:The wifi was patchy, but not a necessity to us.

Review 46:The rooms were elegant and light and the shower was great. Appreciated great storage and overall space. The overall feel was relaxed and peaceful. The breakfasts were lovely and plentiful.

Review 47:I could not get the key card to work which meant staff had to redo card and also accompany me to room. 4 times during overnight stay.

Review 48:Staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 49:there were lots of mosquitoes inside the public areas of the hotel, including the bar where I got very badly bitten, with at least 30 bites on each leg, which I wasn't aware of at the time. The hotel was aware of the problem but didn't seem to be doing anything about it. I asked for a refund but this was refused. I was made to feel that it was my fault I'd had a bad allergic reaction to the bites. The mosquitoes were also in the dining room at breakfast.

Review 50:location is good - central and within walking distance of the station.

Review 51:Very dark shower. Toilet is very high (I'm 172, i almost couldn't touch the floor). Sound isolation is really poor - herd my neighbours perfectly, although they were talking normally. Church can be pretty annoying in the morning. Very soft beds (for some people might be a positive thing)

Review 52:I had a very beautiful view from my room. Really adored jacuzzi on the opened roof terrace. Standard breakfast. Nice personnel.

Review 53:room was noisy - especially when people walked along the corridor on the floorboards outside, often slamming doors. & the clock woke me up when it chimed. one night, fire alarm kept going off for few minutes again waking me up. could not get safe to work.

Review 54:location very good for my purposes. my room had no remote for the a/c & the room was vey cold. - luckily when arrived reception was just still open & I noticed in time & got one from there. most times the reception staff were very helpful & polite.

Review 55:Parking is quite a challage; Shower and bathroom is modern but without shower curtain. Marekerk (church nearby) is very loud in the night.

Review 56:Very good location, friendly staff and owner. Breakfest offers a big variety. The rooms are clean and comfortable.

Review 57:Very weak wi-fi connection. Bathroom could be more comfortable (no shower curtains)

Review 58:Located right in the old city center, 10-minute walk to the Leiden Central train station. Staff very nice and friendly, excellent English. Tea and coffee (small kettle) in the room. A/C worked fine.

Review 59:Wifi - one of us could not connect in room and had to go down to the lobby every time to check mail or conduct other business. Check-in time was very inflexible. This is the first hotel in 6.5 weeks of traveling through Europe that we were unable to check in early.

Review 60:Location - close to everything. Breakfast - included in room rate and had a fair selection. Air con

Review 61:Too hot in breakfast area..no air con

Review 62:Location and helpful friendly staff The outside roof area was great in the heat and the jacuzzi was wonderful Air conditioning actually works!!..

Review 63:- I would say its a little bit pricey for the same quality of hotel u get somewhere else, however NL is an expensive country indeed - Check-in time at 3 pm, check-out time at 11 am don't u think its too late and too early respectively??

Review 64:- There is AIRCONDITIONING which I found it to be so useful during hot stuffy summer nights.. - Central location - Fast WiFi

Review 65:After very warm day the heat was stuck in the room, needed to run AC all night. AC is unfortunately directed straight at the bed. Poor ventilation in the bathroom, humidity problems.

Review 66:Good location. Good bed. Friendly staff.

Review 67:The hotel has no parking, and the room was quite small.

Review 68:The room was very nice and the location very central. Breakfast was included and had good variety of hot and cold.

Review 69:The staff had an "it isn't my responsibility" attitude towards solving problem for guests, and one of them was aggressively argumentive. The room was comfortable, although there were floor-to-ceiling windows behind the headboardless bed. The bathroom: they say they're going to be redoing them soon, but apparently most showers are like ours -- they drain into the bathroom. Makes it very awkward drying off. Breakfast was adequate, although the staff had trouble keeping things filled.

Review 70:The bed was comfortable and the wifi worked.

Review 71:problems with keycard. 3 visits to reception to reactivate keycard.

Review 72:central location.

Review 73:Always on air fan in bathroom

Review 74:Music at breakfast

Review 75:Efficient staff, comfy bed, central location (in the city).

Review 76:Staff not particularly friendly, very small room, average breakfast

Review 77:Location. Cleanliness.

Review 78:Had brown mark on sheet which was off putting but everything else was great.

Review 79:Great location hotel and very comfortable

Review 80:shower in the bathroom - no shower head

Review 81:The atmosphere in the room was terrible.

Review 82:The location in the city centre is excellent.

Review 83:Nucleaire dirty pool and high parking ticket at Dirk parking garage

Review 84:Breakfast and Being in THE city.

Review 85:Really good location, excellent breakfast.

Review 86:Slow wi-fi, difficult car parking

Review 87:Very good location, friendly staff, good breakfast

Review 88:Location. Ambience. Does not feel one bit like a chain hotel.

Review 89:Location very good

Review 90:Smelly, run-down hotel. Parking is not easy. Would not stay there again.

Review 91:Good location. Large room.

Review 92:we got some troubles with the wifi. but finaly got solved.

Review 93:nice staff, helpful. good location for vacation.

Review 94:THE loud noise of the AIR conditioning...

Review 104:Fair size room All amenities

Review 105:Magnetic swipe through Key card to my room did not work 5 times

Review 128:The location

Review 129:Central, indoor bike storage

Review 130:Everything!

Review 131:Nothing at all.

Review 132:Window was directed to west so it had direct sunlight all the noon long. As consequence the room was a oven and it was impossible to sleep without turning on the air conditioner, which I hate. (Windows were impossible to open)

Review 133:Location is excellent, and the room was really tidy.
