Reviews for Hotel Mayflower
Review 1:Room was very cold first night because all radiators were close. I turn it open but i recognize very late. Breakfast was bad. Staff did not help me in paying the price before I arrived.
Review 2:Location is great but a little bit noisy.
Review 3:I experienced problems with WiFi internet connection. It was too slow and I couldn't work properly. The room was a bit cold even after turning on the heater. There were also some spiderwebs, which didn't annoy me as a person, but for the amount of money I paid I expected more attentiveness.
Review 4:The location is great, close to the University and to the Railway station. The staff was helpful and kind. The breakfast was ok, but nothing special.
Review 5:no balcony as in description no heating (6°C outside!) hotel does not repair small and cheap things (impression of not much care) contrary information from personnel at the beginning and at the end of stay!
Review 6:room size
Review 7:Stairs are very steep with no elevator access to higher floors. Room descriptions claim soundproofing, but I don't believe that there was any. There was a live band playing in the restaurant next door on one of the nights I stayed, which I could hear perfectly despite being on the second floor in a room that supposedly had soundproofing. Location is very convenient for Leiden Centraal and local restaurants/shopping, but conversely, it is also very noisy because it is in such a busy area.
Review 8:The sound insulation isn't perfect and there is a bar next to the hotel so it can be noisy at night.
Review 9:Good location, clean rooms, all in all a nice stay.
Review 10:We did not realize that a major festival was happening in Leiden until we arrived, and this hotel is on the square where the carnival rides and games were located. We understood the difficulty of the situation, but asked to be given as quiet a room as possible. The hotel staff member said "okay", and then gave us a room directly on the square where the noise and lights were worst. Inside the room, the noise from the carnival was deafening, and the lights were glaring. There were no heavy curtains to block either light or noise. The carpet in the room was dingy and dirty. The noise from the carnival kept us awake until very late. The hotel walls were peeling and scuffed. We had been told that check out time was 10:30 a.m. However, at 10 a.m. on our day of departure, the cleaning staff came to clean the room early. When we said that we were told that the checkout time was 10:30, she replied "But it's Saturday!" I guess she wanted us to get out so she could finish quickly and go to the festival. Would definitely NOT recommend this hotel.
Review 11:You can hear the sounds in coridors Furniture is old
Review 12:Location, very close to Leiden Centraal train station. A classic Dutch house turned into hotel, I like to feel original atmosphere of country Breakfast and room comfort are acceptable
Review 13:Budget hotel around 5 minute walk from Leiden Centraal station. Location is very good, since you can go anywhere in central Leiden by walk and the train and bus station is just a few minutes away. Rooms are large and equipped with water boiler and fridge. Complimentary toiletries, coffee and tea. Room cleaning every day. Towels were changed on a daily basis.
Review 14:Led to believe breakfast was included...only to be charged for it when I left (€7.50 a day, for just some toast and a coffee...) Very basic interior, and very overpriced.
Review 15:Great location, easy enough to check in very late.
Review 16:The position was excllent with plenty of bars, restaurants nearby and close to the station. Despite the bars, the room was quiet. The staff were very helpful locating an address for me and how to get there. They also changed my room to one on the first floor- no request on my part , as it was evident stairs might be difficult for me.
Review 17:We were well looked after a problem with our Booking.com additional dates were not added to our original booking. The reception and help from staff was great.
Review 18:The narrow staircase might be a problem for some people (no elevator), but it added to the idyllic atmosphere.
Review 19:The location - walking distance from the railway station - is ideal. Easy access to all the sights in the old town. Good dining and shopping.
Review 20:Rooms are very worn around the edges. Drawer was broken in the bedroom wardrobe. Bedside lamp wasn't working. Toilet roll holder was so far from the toilet that it was a real stretch to reach it at all. Wouldn't have minded any of that if it had been half the price.
Review 21:Good location, no-fuss check in and check out.
Review 22:Spacious rooms in need of a little TLC. Fire alarm went off at 01:00 and the reaction was slow and confused. The telephone in my room did not work, nor did the main light. There was no bath plug; I asked but never received one (basin plug was too small). Steep, narrow staircase; I specifically asked in advance for a room closest to ground floor if no lift but got a room on the 2nd floor, no assistance with luggage.
Review 23:Excellent location, authentic Dutch interior. Classy downstairs, but rather past her prime upstairs.
Review 24:This hotel located in old Leiden city. you can know where dutch people lives in. There were everything I need. Tea maker, fridge, free wi-fi, and especially a bath tub!!!! I have stayed other hotels in Leiden (3 other hotels) and this is the best for someone who want to buy your food by yourselves. If your necessities are same as me, you will be satisfied.
Review 25:The hotel was really outdated. Shower tap was broken so had to fix this with a cable tie that I had with me. And there was allready a cable tie used.
Review 26:Good location. Cheap
Review 27:Needs a bit of attention to some minor, but nonetheless noticeable, maintenance issues.
Review 28:Central location in a lovely traditional dutch house. Good buffet breakfast.
Review 29:Furniture and mattresses need an update. It was not pleasant to see old stains on upholstery. Funny smell (I guess coming from restaurants nearby), and a weird noise at night (like air conditioning working)
Review 30:Very good location. Big room with balcony and clean bathroom. Nice staff. WiFi worked fine.
Review 31:Not all the electric fixtures worked and there were switches that didn't operate anything. The very old TV did not work. There were four lovely big windows in the room but only one of these could be opened for fresh air - and only a little way. The curtains across the windows were very light so the early morning light can disturb sleep - not always good for tired travellers. The spiral stairs up to 3rd floor were so steep and narrow it was hard to carry luggage up.
Review 32:This hotel is in a terrific place for walking around Leiden, it's also 4-5 mins from Leiden Centraal Station. It's situated on a beautiful square overlooking a canal. Room was clean and comfortable
Review 33:Stairs were very steep and hard to get up (3rd floor) but this is the norm in most places here... Tea and coffee facilities were ok, but cups only catering for tiny drinks (expresso size) Fridge was a bit smelly, power plugs seemed dodgy. Wifi password on wall was wrong, took a while to get this sorted. A little noisy on Thursday nights due to late night shopping and markets below...
Review 34:The location was great, right in the heart of Leiden near the Square... seagulls calling from above... Bathroom facilities were very clean and I enjoyed having a full size tub to relax in... Bed was very clean and comfortable...
Review 35:1. Windows were completely sealed no cross ventilation. Too hot to be in. 2. Fan was not working. 3. Fridge was not connected prior to check in. It was smelling once started. 4. Breakfast not up to Dutch standard. 5. Receptionist doesn't sound to be welcoming.
Review 36:Location
Review 37:All rooms in need of repairs: outlets inoperable, drawer bottoms missing, handles missing, bathroom fan inoperable, carelessness with security of room. Needs an owner with some TLC
Review 38:Location. Some staff friendly others grumpy
Review 39:My colleague and I have booked a triple room with 1 king-size bed and 1 single bed. As a result we got a room with 1 bed, which we had to split. It wasn't convenient as the bed panel couldn't be splitted and I had a mirror over my head insted. The shower unit was old and fixed at the top with a cord. The hairdryer is fixed in a chest under the TV set in the room. It's awful, as you would to disturb my roommate if you use it when he/she is sleeping or watching TV. BTW we couldn't turn the TV on as the remote didn't work.
Review 40:Location is perfect. Service is very good.
Review 41:The place was a bit run down. Loads of little things were not taken care of that do not require lots of money. Little holes in the bathroom floor from former screws were not filled appropriately, lamp screens missing, screw covers missing, door to balcony difficult to open. Also I did not feel a really warm, caring welcome.
Review 42:The hotel is located at a lively square next to gracht (channel). You can get out and sit immediately down in a cafe for a beer or have some great food. The hotel room itself looks like an old traditional Leiden house, very cute. The room was spacious.
Review 43:Tthe bedroom furnishings were cheap and or shabby. It's not a cheap hotel where that would be ok. No secure parking for cycles.
Review 44:The hotel is in a great position in Leiden. The bed was comfy and the room was clean,
Review 45:We had to go through to the outside to access room, ok in summer.
Review 46:Good location, pleasant English speaking staff. Bed nice and comfy, pillow was best I'd had in days.
Review 47:No elevator, not suitable for large luggage and old people.
Review 48:Everything is Ok;staffs, room, location. There are many cafeterias, small restaurants nearby. Jumbo supermarket is just 2 minute walk.
Review 49:I found scraps of sample cosmetics sachets IN the bed (!) and few around. That must have been left by the previous guest... My bin was not emptied for three days of my stay though there was a service (every day my bed was made again). I did not get the new cosmetics provided by the hotel when I used up the first portion.
Review 50:The location is perfect and beautiful. It's very close to central station so you can access transportation very quickly at any time. There are several places to rent a bike around, what was a great opportunity to get one in easy way. Also lots of shops, cafes and rests around and great museums in a walking distance. The staff is very nice and friendly. The hotel is not a fresh-new one but it's cosy. If you have a heavy suitcase be prepared to carry it up the steep stairs. Breakfast is ok, basic but decent.
Review 51:Reception does not work 24h. No lift to third floor. There were a folder of a closed bike hiring store, what made us walk the whole way to find it out. The staff could be more carefull about the information provided in the folders at the reception desk.
Review 52:Bed is comfortable, room is large with nice view to the square. Clean and very well located.
Review 53:Here is no lift and very narrow stairs to the third floor (we stayed on the second) so it could be challenging with a lot of luggage or for older travellers.
Review 54:The station was 10 minutes away and there were restaurants and sights within five minutes of the hotel.
Review 55:The Mayflower was a comfortable place for our family to stay. It is close to the station, shops and restaurants. We appreciated having a refrigerator in the room.
Review 56:We had expected to pay in euros on arrival but the money had been taken off my credit card which was annoying as it was taken a week before our stay and there were six of us with lots of extra euros. Apparently that was booking.com fault
Review 57:The location was excellent , very central and easy to find. The breakfast was good , with plenty of tea and coffee available
Review 58:The location is just a 5-10 minute walk, maybe 600 m from the Central Leiden train station. McDonalds right next door, great choice of places to eat nearby.
Review 59:Shower head Dated furniture No way to drive up to hotel and drop off luggage Parking 10 min walk, 12 euro per day, not 10 as advertised
Review 60:Tea pot, tea and coffee Large room Location
Review 61:It didn't have a hair drier, although was advertised with one. A bit dusty and it has old furniture.
Review 62:It has a very good location: close to the main station, and lots of restaurants and shops around. Big rooms with big bathroom.
Review 63:I booked a single room. When I arrived, they gave me an apartment. The entrance was not through the hotel entrance, but through a separate door in the busy street. I hated the apartment, it felt dirty, old, it was loud… It should have been refurnished 10 years ago. I asked to be moved to a hotel room. The lady told me I can move the next day, which I did. The room was much better. Wifi was horrible in the new room, Skype conversations were not possible. Other than that and the very bad lightning in the room, the room was ok: bed was comfortable, room was big, I had TV, breakfast was ok (but not more than that). I don't think I will come back…
Review 64:Location was very convenient for me as the hotel is located between the main station and the centre. Staff members were helpful.
Review 65:This faces a public square where there was a temporary "kermis", which had screaming teenagers until 2300. Isolation in hotel was OK but not against the thump-thump of the attraction sound systems. Also there is a street next to it where scooters like to zoom.
Review 66:Twin bed is made by two different small matrass, so easy to fall between. It was an apartment more then a hotel. Hallway smells garbage.
Review 67:Big room, nice location
Review 68:Had asked for rooms to be next to each other, this was not acknowledged by hotel. Doors do not self lock and you need to push a button in handle to lock, we were not told this, in fact we were told the opposite, meaning the door was left open. Facilities in the room very tired, mismatch lights and televisions not in best working order.
Review 69:Location. Hotel allows easy access to restaurants, boat trips, shops
Review 70:There was a small blood stain on the sheets. They had been washed, it just didnt look good.
Review 71:Adjustable radiator.Nice views. Hot water. Wifi. Central location. Good value for money. Quiet.
Review 72:Small room. Old building, nicely renovated, but it is really very hard to climb the narrow stairs to top floors with your luggage.
Review 73:Located in the center of Leiden and very near to the central train station. Clean and cozy.
Review 74:Bathroom OK, but needs an overhaul. Noise from floor upstairs if something was dropped or even heavy footfall; not a serious problem unless late at night. On the last day the fire alarm went off while I was in the shower, so I ignored it, and, luckily, it proved to be a false alarm.
Review 75:Good position; welcoming & helpful staff.
Review 76:-No elevator -I chose "cash" as payment method in my booking.com reservation. However, they charged my credit card for the whole stay during check in, without even asking.
Review 77:-Good location
Review 78:It was a last minute business trip for me, and I booked the most inexpensive room I could find in Leiden; I did not expect to enjoy the place so much! A rooftop outdoor area, a balcony, a bath as well as a shower, coffee and tea, a TV... the list goes on, but I was a happy guest!
Review 79:The light in the bathroom was on continually. Minor fixes needed to completed on toilet. Non smoking hotel, but lobby smelt like someone was smoking.
Review 80:Location of Hotel.
Review 81:Clean, Bed mattress
Review 82:Good location Ok view Good internet but Room condition is bad Fillow was smelly, and alot noise from the stair And some furniture and bed mattress was broken
Review 83:Even the few narrow stairs to the first floor were hard work for an octogenarian.
Review 84:When the receptionist saw that I'd have difficulty on steep winding stairs to the top floor, she persuaded management to assign me inconveniently a much more accessible room.
Review 85:The interior isn't very inspiring- its bland and simple. It was quite loud at night. The WIFI was very poor in my room.
Review 86:The location is very central and it was the cheapest option I could find. The staff were helpful enough. It was fine for a solo traveller but wouldn't go on a romantic holiday there!
Review 87:Unfortunately WiFi was not enough to connect any web site.
Review 88:Mayflower's location is just perfect! On the main squere, close to everything. I was really more than pleased for staying in that place.
Review 89:It needs some repair; breakfast is the same all days, and a quiet poor.
Review 90:Mayflower hotel is in the centre of Leiden. It is near all main subjects (train and bus stations, university, main shopping street, etc.). The price are normal.
Review 91:The room was dusty, the roof of the room shows water infiltration signs and the floor is so old and full of dirty spots, you don't want to step on it, should be changed years ago. No curtains in the bathroom. The hotel has no parking, city parking 10min walk but count 12euro more for 24h. The personal isn't very nice, I had to argue and proof whit the bill that I had payed for breakfast.
Review 92:The bed was big and confortable The square in front is full of bars and restaurants The center is 10 min walk from the hotel Wifi work well
Review 93:Wifi connection is free but not strong enough if you want to chat on FaceTime or Skype.
Review 94:The hotel located just in the centre of the town. Around five minutes walk to the central train station, very close to the windmill and Museum Volkenkunde (Ethnology Museum). There are lots of restaurants around the hotel.
Review 95:The bedding was not changed, wi-fi was very slow, I saw two ants in the room
Review 96:Close to the train station and city center, good price, clean bathroom, comfortable bed, electic kettle
Review 97:Cleaning staff poorly trained. Why did they insist on changing my towels when I had clearly hung them up. And why of why replace an opened soap with a new wrapped one ? Have they no idea about the environment...
Review 98:Location. Size of my room.
Review 99:Old building, needs some refurbishment; steep staircase (as many old buildings in Holland) Breakfast not included. Wifi not working properly/ always
Review 100:Good location, 5-10 mins walking from Leiden Central Station, and close to old town and canals
Review 101:The bathroom toilet didn't have a top and the light went on whenever you opened the bathroom door and had to specifically turned off. Also there was a small step in the hallway to the room from the elevator that caused me to trip as it wasn't highlighted.
Review 102:The room had a ceiling fan and window that opened to the outside. The staff was very friendly accommodating. There was a very complete breakfast.
Review 103:The bed was not comfortable to sleep in. The lack of an elevator prohibits many of our friends from using your hotel. Bed linen was not changed even once in 6 days. Blond hair was on the carpet and we are not blonds.
Review 104:The location. The service and cheerful personnel every morning. Lots of hot water in the shower. Good connection to the internet. The tea and coffee corner. The fridge.
Review 105:Very steep stairs Breakfast options very high in sugar (even the museli and yoghurt) Room lighting very confusing - 6 different switches not counting the lights I never found how to turn on!
Review 106:Near station. Good WiFi Big room Tea/coffee in room
Review 107:When I arrived, they were not really welcoming me... But rather ask that I pay immediately for the 2 night in an unpleasant manner as if I would leave without paying....In short you have a strange feeling....i used to come often in this hotel but will not come anymore. No service!
Review 108:Location in the middle of the city of Leiden at 5 min walk feom the train station
Review 109:Really steep stairs and no elevator, so keep it in mind if you carry heavy luggage. No shower but a bathtub with a curtain; the water could still flow out from the sides, making it impossible not to create a mess even when taking a short shower
Review 110:Nice position and great view over the plaza. Comfortable bed, and everything was clean. Room 23 also had two comfortable armchairs and was quite big
Review 111:The hotel does not have elevators and it has very narrow windingstaircases so if you have heavy luggage (like we had and our room was onthe 3rd floor) you are in for a very very tough time. The hotel alsodoes not have a laundromat but there is a convenient laundry locatedapprox 6 minutes away (walk) at Morestraat if I remember the name right.
Review 112:Superb location at the main market square (Beestenmarkt) within walkingdistance of restaurants, cafes, shops. Approx 6-7 minutes walk (withoutluggage) from Leiden Centraal. 200 mts from the bus-stop. Good room size& good wifi, robust heating, hot showers. Offers a breakfast option@ 7.5 Euros although we did not take it. Hotel staff were friendly andhelped us with extra coffee cups when required as well as taxi bookingwithin minutes whenever we requested.
Review 113:The cleaner knocked on the door to clean, then we clearly said we would leave in 5 mins, we returned to find our room was not cleaned or touched at all. Plus the toilet flush was not fixed.
Review 114:Location and friendly/helpful reception staff.
Review 115:the WIFI was very weak and often did not work, that breakfast was not included in the place, the room was not properly cleaned prior to giving us the keys, in need of major repair and up up grades very difficult to get up and down the stairs with luggage
Review 116:that it was available
Review 117:The wifi connection worked but not very well. It was not reliable because it would be missing for minutes or even for hours. We were in a triple room and the third bed was not a bed in fact - it was a sofa-bed. Not that comfortable in the end but good to sleep in for a few days.
Review 118:The hotel is very close to the train station and the big mill. it has no private parking place, but there is parking really not far (5 minutes walk) which is convenient and quite cheap (10 euros for 24 h, we could really not find a cheaper one in Leide, Haag or Amsterdam). The room (triple) and the bathroom were clean and comfortable. Not at all a high standard hotel, but for the price we paid I think it was honest.
Review 119:It took 24 hours to sort out my payment. At first I was told I hadn't paid, though in reality I had.
Review 120:A large room. A large comfortable bed. A bathtub! Really quiet in the hotel. Overall a nice feeling about the place.
Review 121:--The garbages was in the wastebasket for 3 days!! --Spoiled coffe at the floor, never cleaned. --Spiders at the front door of the room --No room service after 9:00pm until morning. --Τhe refrigerator was locked!!! --Τhe hotel's staff, refused to print our plane's boarding passes becaused didn't have the authorisation to use the computer!!!! --Room service enter the room without knocking the door...
Review 122:--Good location, very close to train station --Very good wi-fi network.
Review 123:Dirty walls, broken shades of lamps, missing hooks in window frames, fridge door not closing properly, not enough electric places to plug in, not working TV remote
Review 124:Room design
Review 125:The door to the balcony couldn't be closed, and the rooms are placed on top of a car workshop, where motorbikes are repaired at 3 o'clock in the night and following tested before leaving.
Review 126:Despite to the negative remarks, it's a OK hotel for the money. It is centrally located for the beach, Hague and Amsterdam. Nice and helpful staff. Can after all be recommended
Review 127:The hotel was fine but a bit tired. We kind of knew that before we travelled so didn't spoil our trip.
Review 128:Very central location, helpful staff e.g. happy for us to leave our luggage for collection later in the day after checkout.
Review 129:The room was a bit too hot and no air conditioning is installed. The fan hanging from the ceiling is effective but a bit noisy.
Review 130:In the city center but at 5 min walking distance from Leiden railway and bus stations. I recommend it for businnes travels.
Review 131:The lack of elevator was a little bit inconvenient but we survived. Another problem was to reach the hotel by a car - some of the streets were blocked and there was not place to unload anyway. We just left our car and walked with luggage. But it's not the hotel fault.
Review 132:The hotel location is excellent - in the middle of old city of Leyden. We got nice spacious suite on the tried floor. I liked the view of cites roofs.
Review 133:The location (right across from a fun zone). The steep stairs were difficult when lugging suitcases up, but we managed. Two substitute breakfast managers were there for most of our stay, not at all equal to the one who we met at arrival. The Wi-Fi was on/off in reception.
Review 134:The facilities: nice room, bath, dining area.
Review 135:My Flower hotel is the best I have experienced in Leiden :)
Review 136:Friendly staff and accomodation
Review 137:Very poor staff attitude
Review 138:Excellent room
