Reviews for Mama Simona Ollantaytambo
Review 1:the location. it was 7-10 minutes walk from the main street and then another 10-15 walk to the train station. There was no street light at night. It was OK for us because we were four but I could not recommend it to a female walking by herself. It would be probably fine but at the same time it might not. But on the good side they offer to take you to the city centre or station for a few soles.
Review 2:Clean, basic but comfortable beds. Got a heater as it was cold. Nice garden with lovely trees. Lockers available although you needed to provide your own lock.
Review 3:Thought we would sleep well next to the stream, but it was quite a torrent and made more noise than we expected. WiFi worked in the common area, but was slow. Breakfast was small, but you could add on eggs, etc. for reasonable prices.
Review 4:Clean and comfortable place for a reasonable price. Nice common areas with a cottage-like feel -- hammocks by the stream, board games to borrow, etc. The kitchen was available for our use most of the day. Definitely felt like we were 'getting away from it' a bit amidst the normal tourism noise. Location was a plus and a minus - we had to help our taxi driver find the hotel as it is on the edge of this small town, but it is not a difficult walk to the town center. We liked being out of the center of town for a couple of nights.
Review 5:wi-fi only in the lobby
Review 6:quiet room (away from the noise of downtown, but easily walked in 8 minutes); beautiful view; helpful staff; large lockers to store luggage for a late departure
Review 7:Get a mototaxi from railway station to transport luggage as its a big walk but its worth the two soles for the quiet peacefull relaxing hostel. Wifi only in nice lounge. We would definitely recommend this place.
Review 8:Soft bed and pillows, stream beside room to put you to sleep after big day in Machuu Pichhu, very relaxing garden and nice walk to plaza, resaurants, tour offices, fortress and markets. Stay here and not Agua Calientes, its much nicer. They also organised a taxi for a private tour to our choice of places and back to Cuzco which was great at a reasonable price, barter hard.
Review 9:Take mototaxi from station as its a long walk but not far from plaza, we were offered pick up but didnt get it, a bit concerning at night. Other wise we liked the place
Review 10:Best bed and pillows, nice stream to put you to sleep, nice outdoor area.
Review 11:Given the price of eggs, they should have been included in the breakfast. There was little information on activities or tours in the area.
Review 12:The location is very nice along the river. The staff didn't speak English but made every attempt to make you comfortable. The kitchen was a good size and it was possible to cook except at breakfast. The blanket was goose down and very warm.
Review 13:The only negative about this place is that their wifi literally doesn't work. Everything else is top notch.
Review 14:Awesome place! It's only a short walk from the center and totally worth it. Falling asleep to the sound of the river is just awesome.
Review 15:The breakfast is more than basic, even though the hostel is not very cheap. Radiators provided for 10 soles per night were not helpful at all, the room remained cold. There was usually hot water in the shower, but 'usually' is the key word - once it got cold when i was bathing.
Review 16:The place is beautiful, nice design and the views around. The pot with hot water and tea available at any time was such a great thing when it gets cold in the evening. The blankets were really warming.
Review 17:Too far from the town centre, Taxi pick up requested for early morning was not booked (AS PROMISED) and lead to an anxious 1/2h wait in fear of missing the MP train
Review 18:Wifi was iffy - yet that is so typical of the whole village - supposedly it is in the process of being improved for the whole valley.
Review 19:Fun place with a gorgeous garden... full of beautiful flowers with the sounds of the flowing river, surrounded by the Andes. It was just the perfect distance on the edge of this small village to see the stars in the night sky in a quiet atmosphere. Clean rooms with wonderful bathrooms - all fresh and quite new. Very friendly staff and great breakfast - great find in a beautiful part of the world!
Review 20:Probabley the cutest hostel Ive ever stayed at, totally recommend. Private bathrooms in each dorm, everything is sparkly clean, the beds are super comfortable, the patio out back has a few hammocks and tables and theres a creek that goes right behind the property that makes the place extra charming. Staff helped me plan how to get to Moray y Maras. Loved it!
Review 21:lack of signage on the trail from the Inca bridge, was not sure if i was on the right trail for most of the time. the veiws were great though.
Review 22:if you look just a little past the regular attractions there is so much more to see. explore a little it is worth it!
Review 23:I stayed in a 4-bed dormitory. The entire premise was clean and homey, including the room, bathroom, garden, lobby, and the community area. The staff were very kind and attentive. I slept comfortably with ear plugs; take ear plugs if you are a light sleeper as the river outside can be loud. The hostel is a good 10 minutes away from the main part of the town. I walked here alone after getting off the train from Aguas Caliente around 6:30pm. It was fine for me, but another female traveler might find feel more comfortable taking a taxi there at night. A small shop is located right next to the hostel.
Review 24:the wifi was very limited, but seemed that way everywhere I tried in Ollantaytambo. So if you need to plan or book anything online you might want to plan ahead when you are still in Cusco
Review 25:If you are not on a tight schedule staying in Ollantaytambo is very much worth it. There are beautiful walks and ruins to explore in the area. And you couldn't wish for a better home to do it from.
Review 26:If something negative needs to be said, then the breakfast included in the room was quite poor.
Review 27:Location next to a small river, it looks like a paradise. Complete package in a peaceful location in Ollantayntambo.
Review 28:The roaring river kept us up at night. Location was a bit further away from the center than most hostels. Wifi was awful.
Review 29:Beautiful relaxing area outside with a garden and hammocks. View of the ruins from our room. The place was very clean.
Review 30:wifi only in communal areas and is a bit slow, but this is the sacred valley so not unusual. This is not negative but it is a little walk from the town square, but it's a small town so it's not bad! Good to help you digest after dinner.
Review 31:the garden is amazing - plan to spend some time reading your book in the hammocks. The communal space is bright, clean and comfortable. Kitchen looks well equipped (we didn't use it). Room very comfortable. Overall a very nice place. We wish we had stayed here instead of Aguas Calientes on our way up to MP.
Review 32:The internet was slow!! However, this happens all around cusco!
Review 33:The staff was very nice and helpful. They know the city and can give you some advices. Also, I loved the location, next to the river...so relaxing! Thank you Mama Simona!
Review 34:Nothing
Review 35:Atmosphere, best hostel room view ever!!!! The river by the Hostel is something else! Clean, all facilities worked fine. Very friendly Staff
Review 36:the wifi is a bot slow or not working, but you have a pc provided to check mails etc. for me it was fine to be not online! ;)
Review 37:This place is really special! very domestic and private atmosphere. words can not describe, I had just a wonderful, peaceful week at mama simona!
Review 38:The breakfast is very limited but was ok, there wifi doesn't work but is something general of the town
Review 39:The garden of the hotel , enjoy the river sound while relaxing in the Hamaca
Review 40:The river is right outside, this maybe a problem if you are a light sleeper. Staff member functional, could not advise how to get to nearby ruins.
Review 41:This is a new modern place down a dirt track,I.was the sole occupant of a 4bed dorm, which had an en suite with hot water. The garden is full of beautiful plants.
Review 42:i liked the river next to the Hostel. Read my book in the hammock. Cook my food in the big kitchen. Eat fruits from the Garden. Chat with owners and the workers. It was like home.
Review 43:Located a little far from the central plaza, which isn't a big deal when the sun is out but as a solo female I was advised to take a moto-taxi back at night which was 2 soles (67 cents). The river is a bit loud if that bothers you, but I found it was atmospheric. A bad storm knocked out the power when I was there which meant no wifi and no credit card machine to pay for my room (I had to go all the way to the ATM by the plaza and pay a $5 transaction fee). But that's out of their control really, just be prepared when going in the rainy season!
Review 44:The hotel was really clean and modern with very friendly staff. I felt very safe as a solo female traveler. The 24-hour reception was very useful and they arranged a really great airport shuttle driver named Hilario (for 100 soles or $34), who was waiting for me with a sign at Cusco airport and acted like a tour guide on the 1.5 hour drive. Also, Ollantaytambo is a great central point that is not too touristy (but has its own archaeological site) from which you can then go to Machu Picchu by train as well as other sites in the Sacred Valley by collectivo or taxi. Also, the breakfast was good but basic: delicious coffee and average bread with jam and butter.
Review 45:Wifi was unavailable
Review 46:Hot water showers Comfortable beds pillow and blankets Great little garden area Friendly staff Clean kitchen and dishes to use
Review 47:No wifi. i dont recommend it if you are going to take the first train to Aguas Calientes because it´s a little far and have to walk in a dark alley at 4am.
Review 48:Really nice view of the river. The room was confortable and clean.
Review 49:- Location is a little far from city centre - Wifi only worked in the lobby
Review 50:- Friendly & helpful staff - Very clean room - Comfortable beds - Hot and high pressured showers - Very nice courtyard - Quiet and peaceful surrounding
Review 51:The breakfast was pretty slim. The Wi-Fi was not working either.
Review 52:The staff was very friendly. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The lobby of the hotel is very comfortable with couches and books to read.
Review 53:Being close to the river, it was hard to leave windows open while we were gone, due to bugs coming in (I have allergies) - could not open doors at night for the same reason, a little musty in the bathroom (allergies), would have liked more channels in other languages (most channels were Spanish. Would have liked more English, French or ??) added. Wifi wasn't very strong in the room - had to go outside to get a signal
Review 54:A little away from the main square, but not too far (quiet), river outside the door was nice to hear at night, Snacks, beer and other useful things for sale in the lobby, friendly and helpful staff, Arranged for our laundry to be done, beautiful yard with hammock and bbq
Review 55:Minor issues: 1) I would have liked the bathroom waste bin emptied during my 3 night stay; it wasn't. In a country where you can't flush toilet paper this becomes important. 2) The screened bathroom jalousie window was missing a slat so a large amount of outside air came in. It wasn't a problem since it wasn't too cold outside when I showered.
Review 56:The grounds and common areas are well maintained. The staff is extremely helpful. I would stay here again.
Review 57:dorm was mixed which I didn't know about. This would be good to mention ahead of time.
Review 58:staff was friendly, wonderful to go to sleep listening to the stream running close to the hostel, breakfast great with the option of paying for eggs as well, location tranquil and out of main area of Ollantaytambo, mototaxi cheap for transport
Review 59:Wifi not so great sometimes because of the distance from town. ( Its not that far but seems to effect)
Review 60:Everything. Beautiful location by the river, amongst blossoms and fruits in tranquility. CLEAN , serious HOT WATER - SO hot you actually have to turn the cold tap on, too. At ALL TIMES. I know cause I did.. Beautiful location by the river, amongst blossoms and fruits in tranquility. CLEAN , serious HOT WATER - SO hot you actually have to turn the cold tap Comfortable beds, quiet. Kind staff. Mama Simona is special to me because they went out of thier way for me when I was sick. I owe them a huge thankyou.
Review 61:drunken people and horrendous prices in the tiendas nearby. Steep prices in the hostel as well
Review 62:Clean rooms, clean kitchen, nice staff, nice garden, quiet
Review 63:Extremely poor breakfast, buy your own food. staff lacked information from places to eat and visit
Review 64:Nice place by the river, a bit far from the station and main plaza but is worth the walk
Review 65:The dark alleys while walking back to the hostal. Not really safe to walk back alone late at night . But if with friends it's fine!
Review 66:Really nice furnishing and layouts. Super clean beds and sheets. The scenic river at the backyard
Review 67:The room was cold. To get heat we had to pay. They took used towels fromthe floor and hung them up for us to use. The sink didn't have hotwater so it was difficult to shave. The owner didn't care aboutcustomer satisfaction.
Review 68:Nice view from the hotel.
Review 69:Walk back from town dark at night, advise taking motorbike taxi for 1 sole pp. Steps up to room but staff helped with luggage. Wifi only available in lounge area and quite slow
Review 70:Location beside river. Helpful friendly staff who arranged taxis for me. Coffee, tea, coca tea available all day. Continental breakfast with fresh fruit juice, bread butter and jam. Tea and Coffee. Lovely double room, felt very clean and new. Beautiful garden with hammocks beside river, very relaxing
Review 71:The location is nice--by a river and with a lovely little garden, but it is a good 15 minute walk (uphill) from the center of town. Getting a taxi ride to the train station early in the morning was a bit of a hassel. As a result, this place would be better for a leisurely stay than a quick one-night stay before heading to the Inca Trail/Machu Picchu. Wifi only in main building.
Review 72:Lovely garden! Modern rooms, good facilities. We were right by the river, and we had the idyllic sound of the river to lull us to sleep. Staff was friendly and helpful.
Review 73:The facilities were wonderful and the courtyard and common room were perfect places to get some reading and card games in. The breakfast was simple yet delicious and all facilities were very nice and clean. The walk from the main square was always a nice end to the day and the white noise from the creek nearby made sleep a breeze. Would stay again and again. Thanks Ana!
Review 74:Room can get pretty cold at night, it's a 10min walk from city center (plaza de armas) and 20min from train station.
Review 75:Staff is helpful, instalations are new and adequate, scenic location.
Review 76:Very basic breakfast. It would be great if they offered some fruits and maybe avocado as a vegan option to butter.
Review 77:Clean, new and confortable facilities. Both the private rooms and shared rooms are equaly confortable. Amazing outdoor area next to the river, with flowers, hammocks, fireplace and a great view of the mountains. Great general atmosphere.
Review 78:A bit away from the center but at least it is peaceful !
Review 79:Great cosy dorms with wooden floor and hot shower. The communal room is very nice as well, with a big shared kitchen. The staff is helpful and the breakfast is ok. Highly recommended !
Review 80:Mama Simona Ollantaytambo is just a short walk away from town. It is a quiet hostel with great staff and was perfect for us looking for a home away from home for our trip to Machu Picchu. The staff is great, the food is great, and the room was great!
Review 81:Breakfast wasn't great, and the things that cost extra (eggs, sandwich) were mediocre.
Review 82:The facilities were very modern and clean, and the common areas were fantastic!
Review 83:The WiFi couldn't reach the room.
Review 84:That location staff and cleanliness was the best we had come across. It was nice to be away from the main square and the little river ran right next to our room, it was so soothing!
Review 85:Nothing, NADA! Everything there I really enjoyed.
Review 86:Very new(about 3 months or so), very clean, neat, beautiful. Very nice people are working there. I liked the most is the tiny garden with my favorite flowers Datura/Angel's Trumpets all over and a very powerful tiny creek runs through by the garden. Especially I loved listening to the sounds of the creek, Very meditative days and nights. I loved there so much that I expanded one week more to stay. I'll give them a big 5 stars! ¡Gracias, Mama Simona Ollantaytambo, Perú! I'll come back there sometime soon hopefully.
Review 87:The standard breakfast was a bit meagre, but the coffee was great and you could order eggs for an extra s/ 3.50.
Review 88:This is a great hostel. It is clean, comfortable, and welcoming. The garden is absolutely stunning and I loved falling asleep to the sound of the river. The showers had plenty of hot water and water pressure. I felt calm, relaxed, and safe staying here.
