Reviews for Rembrandt Hotel Leiden
Review 1:No phone in the room; defective light in the room blinked non-stop through the night, made it impossible to sleep. Safe in the room didn't work either.
Review 2:Good location, close to station and centre.
Review 3:Might be noisy if you're on the square side
Review 4:The hotel is very close to both the station as the rest of the centre (but Leiden is a small city). Mind though that it is next to a busy square so the room on the street/square side (which we had) might not be the quietest ever, but we had to get up early anyway so we didn't bother about the street cleaners outside. The hotel was just renovated (so they said) and looks nothing special but functional. In the breakfast room you can have breakfast in front of a fresco version of Rembrandt's Nightwatch painting.
Review 5:The shower leaked and made a lake in the bathroom. The shower stall was so small it was impossible to turn around in it.
Review 6:I liked the firmness of the beds.
Review 7:Located very close to the station and a McDonald, and a wonderful sushi bar called Shabushabu. The bed was so comfy and the lighting was lovely. Night view of the street through the window is beautiful. Oh and the crossaints for breakfast are just amazing. Warm and fresh, the best I've ever had!
Review 8:The room only had one towel, a light fitting did not work. Both defects were quickly attended to.
Review 9:Great location, clean, quiet, very comfortable, good size room, good value breakfast.
Review 10:Not really a bad experience, but either I did not manage to find out how their combined lights switch worked or it did not work at all. While, I got a quiet room from exterior disturbances, one of the elevators was making noise even when no electricity was on.
Review 11:Wifi signal not very strong on 2nd floor. Poor lighting. Room lacked instructions on telephone use.
Review 12:Proximity to train and bus transportation, restaurants, shops, etc. Free wifi, elevator, and hot water kettle and free coffee and tea. Spacious bathroom with nice shower. Staff very helpful and responsive to comments and requests.
Review 13:Took me a little time to understand the electronic light switches. But that's a minor point. More fresh fruit at the breakfast.
Review 14:I was looking for a reasonably priced hotel in the middle of Leiden to be close to the Pieterskerk. Rembrandt Hotel turned out to be the best option. Room 206 was quiet (at the back). It's a small single room. But the bed was extremely comfortable and the bathroom/shower facilities were fine.
Review 15:Noise at nights from the bars/restaurants opposite. Cleaner had opened the curtains and by doing this half of them were hanging to the floor. For 3 days she came and cleaned the room but did not fix the curtains!
Review 16:Location excellent, Breakfast was adequate
Review 17:All in all it was a good stay.
Review 18:Receptionist allowed us to change rooms on request, she was really nice and helpful. Very quiet during our mid-week stay, and comfy bed. Room was nice and dark so no morning light coming in. Very close to city center and train station.
Review 19:the cheap wardrobe the minimal room provisions the firm beds the lack of somewhere to sit - no chairs
Review 20:the location the breakfast the bathroom the space in the room the view from the balcony
Review 21:A kettle + tea/coffee in the room would have been nice. One bedside lamp was broken and it took 3-4 days to get it replaced even though we informed the staff that it prevented us from reading in bed at night.
Review 22:Clean hotel with very good location and friendly staff.
Review 23:I was a bit disappointed that when I booked, it stated 'pay later' yet when I arrived, I was taken by surprise at having to pay as soon as I got there. As my payday landed in the middle of my stay, I had to pay part with my entire spending money and rely on my friends for a few days.
Review 24:Everything
Review 25:I had stayed in this hotel a couple of years back, and had a fairly goodstay -- I gave the Rembrandt 3 stars back then. When I returned thisyear, however, the whole stay was a big disappointment. I hardly everwrite negative hotel reviews, but I felt this merited an exception. The hotel was clean, but here was a strong and unpleasant 'sewery' SMELL coming from the shower. When I came back the second night of my stay, after a long day at a conference I was attending in town, I found that my key card did no longer give me access to my room. I mentioned this to the girl at reception (after ringing the bell for about 9 times to get her attention), and she reprogrammed my card without even asking my name, let alone checking my identity or ID. I felt very UNSAFE after this, knowing that anyone entering the hotel with a keycard could just get access to any room they'd ask for, no questions asked. What's more, when I finally got access to my room, I found that it had NOT been CLEANED or serviced by housekeeping. I mentioned these last two problems to the receptionist at check-out, and they said they'd look into it. I was offered a complimentary cup of coffee to apologize for the hassle – which I felt was a bit ridiculous, as I had literally just left the breakfast table when I went to check out. Unfortunately, after checking out, I also found that they had OVERCHARGED my credit card for a two-person breakfast, even though I was traveling alone, and had even filled out "1 person" on the breakfast sheet they'd asked me to sign. They did give me the refund when I came back for it, but I wonder how often this happens without people noticing it.
Review 26:My room this time around was alright in terms of size (it wasridiculously small last time!), and has all the basic amenities onewould need. Breakfast was alright, but not very inspiring orparticularly fresh. A big plus is the hotel's central location.
Review 27:lady at reception rude and unhelpful room not cleaned for entire 3 night stay towels not replaced no attention to needs of guests
Review 28:central location newly decorated
Review 29:Given an unfinished room. Stood in carpet glue on the way to the room asthey didn't warn us they were putting down the carpet in the hall.Lights and window blinds didn't work correctly. In the first morningpower turned on and off for a while then went completely went. Had touse another room to shower. Moved to another "Deluxe" roomwhich had a huge circular window with no blind or curtain whatsoever, sohad to be moved to another room. Main existing rooms were fine, but theysold / moved us to the first 2 rooms desite them being unfinishedand not ready for anyone to stay in. I have never left a bad review forany hotel before but that was completely unacceptable.
Review 30:Staff were helpful and polite, no issues with the people there.
Review 31:The sink was clogged when we arrived. The shower stall leaked, so it was impossible to shower without flooding the bathroom. The room was small and drab.
Review 32:Great location, staff very friendly and helpful.
Review 33:One day we returned late and found our room had not been cleaned and had been left with the door open. As the safe was not working and no-one mended it in spite of being asked, we were very lucky not to have had valuables, iPads etc stolen. We eventually got them to discount bill by not charging for the lamentable breakfasts (stale rolls, I drinkable coffee).
Review 34:Hotel in good location for us near Leiden Central Station as we were using Leiden as a base to see Delft, Amsterdam, Den Haag & Utrecht. Leiden also a very relaxed place with good restaurants and things to see and do. Hotel was bad, terrible bathroom in a small cupboard though room spacious, tired furniture, grubby and poor breakfast.
Review 35:No desk/table and no chair in the room. Wi-Fi at evenings was terrible, regularly disconected (though signal was very good).
Review 36:Comfortable hotel near the Central Railway Station.
Review 37:I have travelled a lot but the ratio of price and quality of hotels in the Netherlands seems inadequate. This hotel is not an exception. I booked a single room and I was shocked when I saw that it is 2x2 meters. I am not exaggerating. Unpleasant smell in the corridors. Also, I cannot understand why hotels in the Netherlands do not serve any vegetables for breakfast. You can find a shop full of tomatoes next door but no vegetables for breakfast. Also, the scrambled egg was always cold.
Review 38:The place is close to everything. Breakfast coffee was good.
Review 39:The ventillation system in the room was rather loud, and it is quite annoying when it starts buzzing from time to time in the middle of the night. Apparently there was a control panel but it was so hidden behind the wardrobe that I could not possibly see its screen.
Review 40:Very nice, friendly hotel right in the city centre. The room was quite big, and wireless connection was excellent.
Review 41:There was no restaurant as indicated. Would not have stayed at this hotel if we had known. Breakfast poor. Limited selection and not refreshed. Room not made up on one day.
Review 42:- Wifi interrupting all the time. - No plug close to the bed (you can not charge your telephone close to the bed). - Very small bathroom
Review 43:- Nice, clean and big room. - Location.
Review 44:the pillow is hard, the bathroom door is very noisy - these are small uncomfortable things only
Review 45:located in the middle of the city, very good starting point for Leiden sightseeing, helpfull staff, good continental breakfast
Review 46:My room and the area around it were filled with a noticeable sewer-like smell. Rather unpleasant.
Review 47:Staff were friendly and helpful. Location pleasant and handy. Facilities generally fine.
Review 48:Wi-fi constantly cutting in and out and not just in room . Reported but still no improvement. Bit slow getting breakfast set up for slightly different reasons each day . Not a problem for me as in no hurry but maybe for anyone on a tight schedule
Review 49:Convenient location, friendly staff , quite good price for central Leiden . Slept very well. decent room with desk in window to work at. Would definitely use again if they sort out the w-fi.
Review 50:Good breakfast, but a bit expensive (10 euro) compare to its moderate size.
Review 51:We had a very spacious and comfortable room under the roof, modern equipment.
Review 52:Noisy street in front of the hotel. Quite far from Central station especially when you dragged a bag along. The room is too dark, cannot see things clearly at night.
Review 53:Next to the mill. So many restaurants close by. Near shopping street which close at 6 pm.
Review 54:the breakfast could be better, with more chooice of Food The shower in the room was leaky, as consequence often a "lake" in the bathroom
Review 55:friendliness of the staff, they have supported us to print some documents with the hotel's Printer for free. Location is perfect, 5 min from Central Station. Internet Connection was stable
Review 56:Hotel ambiance poor, poor lighting throughout, very few staff on duty, breakfast not worth it, when we arrived at 8.30 there was little left, and others came to see even less available, we stayed 2 nights and had b/fast first day but went elsewhere on the second day. I went into the bar for a drink and they had no beer available, from the tap or by bottle (except for a beer called radler which is 2% alcohol, imagine no beer from tap and no bottled beer available? this area of the hotel was so dark, one could not read a newspaper or book. We will not go back there, if it is still open.
Review 57:Visiting our daughter.
Review 58:Some noise from night revellers at back of hotel....but then window was open
Review 59:Comfortable bed/clean/excellent location/good breakfast/pleasant helpful staff
Review 60:My room was quite small (probably because it was an offer, I imagine the other rooms may be bigger). In general the hotel is quiet, but the doors close in a noisy way. The cost is a little bit high for the value, in my opinion.
Review 61:It is in a good part of the town, close to the train station, and to the center. Useful facilities are very close. The wi-fi works well. The breakfast is good (it is an extra cost, by the way).
Review 62:They offered me a room which wasn't clean, when I was checking in. The bathroom was dirty and the towels were on the floor. I asked them to give me a new room and they did, fortunately!
Review 63:The wifi signal was good, however, not stable. The shower was not well isolated and after a shower the whole bathroom was flooded.
Review 64:It was close to the station and the centre. The staff was helpful when I wanted to check out one day earlier.
Review 65:restocking of tea/coffee in superior rooms hit-or-miss hot offer at breakfast no longer good
Review 66:public areas very attractive - especially with the Rembrandt reproductions doing the job of wallpaper interesting rooms staff unfailingly cheerful individual hotel and just within the old town
Review 67:The Wi-Fi is very instable. Keeps disconnecting and reconnecting. It was impossible to work on line. The power socket in the bath room was not working-so I had to shave in the room. The TV screen is very small. There is a minibar in the romm...but it is powered off.
Review 68:Hotel is very clean, well located in the town center, with restaurants and bars nearby. The room I had was quiet, with more space than average hotel rooms.
Review 69:the internet was too unstable to work with a VPN or any program you have to log in with as it disconnected every 5 mins for 30 secs.
Review 70:The hotel was in the middle of the centre close to the station. Rooms were silent and big.
Review 71:We had a street side room with big windows which we requested so that was nice. Only problem was that the television volume never worked. We were there 3 nights and it was never repaired although the staff tried to fix it. We were offered an upgrade and shown the rooms but they did not meet our specifications for large windows street side facing and we had already unpacked and were very tired. Upon our request we were offered 2 free breakfasts as compensation, but it would have been nice to have had a functioning television in the room we were originally given.
Review 72:This is my second time this calendar year to stay at this property. We always enjoy our visit and for the most part, we feel taken care of.
Review 73:Tv had no sound. It wasn't on mute, it had no sound. We had hotelclerk come and try to fix...but to no avail. We had planned on watchingat night. Not possible. So...We would read in bed. Nope...my reading light didn't work. Buld wasn't burned out. It just didn't work. So we went to a movie. The provided one bath towel and one hand towel for two mature adults. Not each...two towels total. Window of room facing main college party street -- loud pounding music, scooters and crowd noise kept us up until 3 a.m.
Review 74:Staff friendly.Location good. Room clean. Good breakfast spread.
Review 75:No fridge or coffee making facilities. The beds looked dreadful particularly the pillows (all lumpy). Only 2 hangers in wardrobe - we had to ask for more. Noise from a Pub in the street went on until early hours and kept us awake.
Review 76:The room was clean and the meal in the restaurant excellent, but absolutely no atmosphere.
Review 77:Pavement tothe front of the hotel is cramped and parking was an issue, the staff need to be more clued up. They suggested parking about 500 metres away! You can park much closer but it is a drawback
Review 78:It is very convenient for the centre surounded by resaurants. Good breakfast. The staff were very helpful but not always well informed about Leiden. Good room very roomy and comfortable. Close to the station so travel without a car is easy. It takes a little getting used to, it is very mum better than first impressions might suggest.
Review 79:"Petit bemol" as the French say, the main light in the bedroom didn't work (as far as I could make out). But there were enough other light sources for it not to be a big deal. I didn't talk to staff about it so can't complain.
Review 80:The night receptionist was particularly helpful. Morning staff were nice too - they let my daughter have coffee without charging her for breakfast. Whole place was like Leiden generally: laid-back, with everything you need for a good stay, with no fuss.
Review 81:- cleanliness of the room: crisps from other guest were and stayed in the draw for our whole stay, bed not made, bathroom poorly cleaned. - wifi kept turning of and on
Review 82:- excellent location, in walking distance to station and all the highlights of Leiden - staff friendly and helpfull
Review 83:Extremely agressive and rude manager. Towels repeatedly stained and shabby. No double beds available, only single beds pushed together. Rooms extremely small, to the point you could barely open the bathroom door properly. Desks in standard rooms not suitable for working on. Only superior rooms are visible on the website.
