Reviews for Casa de Wow
Review 1:We are not normally the type to stay in hostals, but this one is fantastic. Wish we weren't so tired after doing Machu Picchu because it would have been nice to take better advantage of the warm atmosphere.
Review 2:There was a bright streetlight right outside of our window that was annoying. The rooms/bathrooms could be cleaner.
Review 3:Casa de Wow was a visual treat, from the terrific view of the Ollantaytambo ruins to the artistically made furniture. The staff were very nice and the location was excellent. The communal container of filtered water in the kitchen was perfect for refilling water bottles.
Review 4:Walking back from town in the evening can be a little scary.
Review 5:When I arrived Steven was there to great me. He was very warm and welcoming. He explained everything to me and then showed me my room. The room is very nice and cosy. The bed is comfortable. In the morning you get breakfast (bread and jam) plus Steven will make you some eggs if you want ss well.
Review 6:When we arrived the water was completely off. We were told it would return in four hours. There was no water in the sink and the toilet did not flush. We were told there would be hot water in the morning, and there was not. After advising us it was better to take a taxi to the train station than walk, we asked the staff to have a taxi there at 6 am for us to get our train. We confirmed this several times. When we went down before six, the staff person (who spoke no English) said the taxi was going to be there at 6:30. He walked us to the taxi stand which was only blocks from the train station. The bed was comfortable. There was extremely dim lighting in the room. This is very small and you can hear everything happening in the house. It was extremely over priced compared to other places in the area.
Review 7:We stayed in Ollantaytambo for only one night, we left early morning for a 5am train. We would have preferred to stay somewhere closer to the train station. Staff at Casa de Wow will tell you that they are only 5 minutes walking, but it's about 20 minutes. It's a lovely walk if you have the time really, but lugging even the very small carry on suitcases we had was difficult over the cobblestone streets, there and back. Also, the skinny spiral staircase was okay for us because our bags were not terribly cumbersome but for travelers with larger luggage or for people with mobility issues it could be a real problem.
Review 8:The place is cute, the staff was nice. The rooms are comfortable and large enough. Not bad!
Review 9:In a town always busy with travellers it is easy to set up as a 'hotel'. This is a very quirky home which has had rooms added to it to capitalise on travellers to Ollantytambo. But that is what it feels like - you are in their home, climbing over their dog and using their kitchen.
Review 10:Bathroom was quite small.
Review 11:We had a lovely double bed in a large room. The artsy decor was so fun! Location was perfect, as it's on a quiet street but very close to the ruins and Main Street. Hosts did not speak English, but were very hospitable. We don't expect to come to a country like peru and have everyone speak English. It would ruin the vibe!! Breakfast was simple but good. Delicious bread and eggs. Wifi, hot water, and purified drinking water was always available.
Review 12:Sometimes no running water.
Review 13:Senior Wow treated me as guest in his house as opposed to a hotel/hostel guest. He was flexible in terms of checkout time and breakfast time.
Review 14:Hardware.
Review 15:Friendly, helpful, nice staffs.
Review 16:Shared bathroom not advertised ; expensive for what you get; not much English spoken when co-owner is away
Review 17:Charming rustic place in good location
Review 18:This place was more hostel than hotel, but very fun and cute. Wow (the owner) is warm and kind and very creative. Would very much recommend!
Review 19:They had no idea about our reservation, the beds were very small, the bathroom didn't work very well, and it was fairly dirty compared to some others we had recently stayed at for the same price.
Review 20:We arrived about 11PM as we had stated we would. The reservations we had made on booking.com was unknown to them. The owner was gone and had his friend watching the place for him. We had booked a room with 2 beds for my 2 young friends, and a room for my family of 4 including our 3 year old. The friend was sleeping when we arrived, and was very pleasant. There was one dorm left n the ace with 2 sets of bunk beds (4 beds total). The friend of the owner had been sleeping in one. He allowed us to sleep n the 4 beds (after I asked), my wife and I on a single top bunk, and my niece and 3yo son in the bottom. Then my two friends in the other two. The beds were only ok, and the bathroom wasn't reliable. He did make us breakfast in the morning and was very polite, but we didn't stay there a second night even though beds did open up. It may have just been a fluke with the owner being gone, but that was our experience.
Review 21:The wifi was a little bit flaky at times
Review 22:The highlight of our stay at Casa de Wow! was the friendliness and helpfulness of one of their staff - Hugo. After our stay we mentioned that we had to get back to Cusco and were interested in seeing Moras, Moray and Pisac. He called around and found us a good deal on a private guided tour of the sacred valley, which turned out to be a major highlight of our trip. The hotel decor fits in with the location, the rooms are warm and our bed was nice and comfortable. The view from the roof is not to be missed!
Review 23:On 19 March, Booking.com confirmed my reservation for Casa de Wow! in Ollantaytambo for 9 May. As an extra precaution, I separately emailed the hotel on 31 April, - just over a week before my arrival - to double-check I was expected. Winn the proprietor emailed back to confirm my booking and say they were looking forward to seeing me. Alas, after travelling for eighteen hours, the hotel's promised pick-up from Cusco airport did not happen and I was stranded, and heavily ripped off by the apparently 'official' taxi driver I got. When I finally reached Casa de Wow! I was told they'd no record of my booking and had no vacancy. Instead, they'd found me a room in an inferior hotel called Mama Simone, which was ten minutes' walk from the centre of town along an unlit road. As a solo female traveller I would never choose such a place. At breakfast the next morning at Mama Simone's I started chatting with another traveller. It turned out that he had also booked Casa de Wow! through booking.com. Like me, he had been stranded at the airport, and on arrival was told that his booking didn't exist. He was also transferred to the inferior Mama Simone. Is it possible that certain hotels (such as Casa de Wow!?) may accept lower-priced bookings such as mine via booking.com and then ditch them when they get a better price from another traveller. If this is the case, this practice should be stamped out as soon as possible. Neither Winn or Wow were there but after my complaints, Casa de Wow! found me a very nice room for the following night. However, the hassle, stress and expense of being stranded at Cusco airport after a long trip from the UK, and then finding I didn't have a room at Casa de Wow! - despite confirming it just a week before - simply wasn't worth it. I would not stay again and can't really advise other travellers on how to avoid a similar issue at Casa de Wow! apart from staying elsewhere.
Review 24:Location and individual look and feel of the place.
Review 25:Extremely dirty. Room, sheets, and bathroom were not cleaned before or during the stay. Value for money extremely poor. Location is inconvenient. Do not recommend the private room with bathroom - it has no window and is dark, dingy and moldy. Breakfast not prepared in sanitary kitchen. You can stay in twice as nice a place for half the money.
Review 26:The staff were hospitable and the decor attempted to dress up the place.
Review 27:Room was very small... Quite expensive considering bathroom is shared.
Review 28:Amazing views of the ruins. Home made beds had character. Take away breakfast was thoughtful.
Review 29:Running water in the bathroom was intermittent.
Review 30:Despite our lack of Spanish and Roberto's lack of English his enthusiasm for Ollytantambo was delightful and in the end we got most of it. The home made beds are certainly quirky and very comfortable. Views from the crows nest spectacular. The village is well worth an overnight stay, which allows you to visit both sides of the valleys ruins, and enjoy some humming bird spotting.
Review 31:The Wi-Fi was intermittent, (but this seems to be a problem with the internet in Peru, rather than with the hostel itself).
Review 32:The rooms were clean and the bed was comfortable.
Review 33:Located in the heart of the Inca city Ollantaytambo, in an original stone street and with stone foundations.
Review 34:Comfy bed. Great room. Hot shower, and made to order breakfast! Talk to Roberto for the real scoop on the Incas!!!
Review 35:The staff is top rate, super helpful and made casa de wow feel like home. The view of the ruins from our window never ceased to amaze.
