Reviews for Tikawasi Valley
Review 1:It was noisy, all the doors were very loud. We had someone throwing up for hours in the room right above us and that was hard to take .
Review 2:It was very clean and the room spacious. Good breakfast . Beautiful garden!
Review 3:A bit cold in the rooms at nights and no heaters. Staff could be more friendly and breakfast could be better
Review 4:Very good location, clean, lovely garden and views of ruins. Not too far from station for Machu Picchu
Review 5:Perhaps you could give better directions. many people in the town that I asked didn´t know where the street was.
Review 6:This is just a very pleasant guest house set around an interior garden. It was beautifully peaceful, and the staff were friendly and helpful, allowing me to check out late. A nice little breakfast too!
Review 7:The breakfast was not as good as other places we stayed at. Why no avocado. If it wasnt free i wouldnt have bothered
Review 8:location was right next to ruins . It was quiet. Beds comfortable, rooms a bit on small side but okay
Review 9:Weak internet connection; not all personnel is friendly (the younger boy was a little grumpy); I think I got a little sick from the hot water at the breakfast: make sure they boil it
Review 10:Amazing location: you can see the ruins from your room;
Review 11:room cound not have fresh air ( no windows to open) , the curtains where not long enough and thus anyone could always look into the room, right where you sleep (and it was next To the reception...) - a bit noisy rooms
Review 12:Staff was helpfull for keeping our luggage when going to machu pichu Rooms have a nice look
Review 13:Staff is somewhat limited in English but we made out OK, and they were extremely helpful.
Review 14:Location, (Just a few minutes walk to the Ollantaytambo archeological site, and a short tuk-tuk ride to the train station), laundry service was reasonable, breakfast was fine, staff was so helpful, our room was large and comfortable.
Review 15:Didn't seem to have hot water for showers and could hear people talking outside quite loudly as the rooms face each other.
Review 16:Cozy room with a good location.
Review 17:The room was cold. We asked for a heater but it didn't help much. However, this will be issue almost everywhere in the area.
Review 18:Very nicely decorated rooms and comfy beds Hot shower Hairdryer available Stored our luggage for a day for free
Review 19:Most staff have very limited English which makes communication difficult
Review 20:Location is great, very close to the Ollantaytambo ruins, town plaza and a walkable distance to the train station. Breakfast is a good selection of ham, scrambled eggs, cereal, yogurt, fresh fruits, fruit juice, coffee/tea.
Review 21:Our room was close to the lobby and walls are not soundproof - a little too noisy late at night and early morning.
Review 22:Wonderful staff, very clean rooms, location is great.
Review 23:The breakfast was extremely bad quality and not value for money. It compared poorly to other hotels we stayed at in the area.
Review 24:The location and quality of the rooms was excellent.
Review 25:Staff are super friendly and speak good English. They went out of their way to accommodate our special requests and made a group of 13 enjoy the stay.
Review 26:I didn't like being asked to pay in cash up front (especially when I noticed this was not asked of other guests). Furthermore, being given a torn US $20 bill in change, which no-one else wanted to accept, was not a good start. However, the rest of the stay was good and staff were accomodating in all other respects.
Review 27:Great location in the centre of town but quiet. My single room overlooked the coutyard garden and mountains. The artisan market and archeological site are a few steps from the coutyard door. The living Inca village is a short walk in the other direction. I extended my stay here and they were most helpful and flexible in facilitating my visit to Machu Picchu.
Review 28:Booked a superior room but the only windows were directly onto inner courtyard. A bit too noisy and room quite dark.
Review 29:Great location in Ollantaytambo. Great walks in the area, but no map at the hotel and tourist office closed for renovations.
Review 30:The staff prepared a lunch to-go for my friend and I since we were early to rise and out seeing the sights before breakfast. It was ready and waiting for us at 4:00 a.m.! Thanks TV!
Review 31:Everyone in our group of 5 had a hot shower, which we cannot say for some of the other hotels we stayed at in the sacred valley so that was a definite plus. Very pretty courtyard and unique layout of the hotel. Breakfast was pretty basic but satisfying. Great location right outside the Ollantaytambo ruins entrance, would stay again!
Review 32:They provided us with a pre-packed breakfast because we left at 4 am, but it became part of our luggage during the day (made it heavy) and ended up not being things we would normally eat. Perhaps the chance to choose from a couple of things the night before would make it better.
Review 33:Loved that they had a hairdryer so I was able to finally wash my hair. Very beautiful nature-like decor inside, very comfortable bed and pillows (especially pillows). Clean. Had water in our bedroom.
Review 34:We had a room up behind the reception, rooms are not soundproof, very noisy in the morning from 6 o'clock
Review 35:Charming hotel next to the Inca ruins, close to the main square and 10 min walking from Ollantaytambo train station. The hotel has a lovely garden (courtyard), helpful staff, really great place to stay.
Review 36:My room was on the corner of a main thoroughfare. I could not open my window due to privacy so room very stuffy. No blinds & lights on until 4am. There was noise from above, below & both sides. Impossible to sleep.
Review 37:Staff very helpful when I was sick.
Review 38:It was a little noisy but i think it had more to do with the group that was at the hotel the same night.
Review 39:The location is wonderful. Walking distance to the train station.
Review 40:Receptionist could have been more welcoming. She rejected our dollar bills, we thought unnecessarily.
Review 41:We liked the style of building in keeping with the location, close to ruins and many restaurants. Beautiful garden area. Breakfasts were good.
Review 42:According to photos and other reviews I thought that breakfast was going to be better than it was. Free wifi didn't work very well in our room.
Review 43:The hotel is very nice and super quiet. Just what you need if you want to spend a couple of nights in Ollantaytambo. Location is more than perfect to visit the ruins, walk around town and the staff is very friendly.
Review 44:This property was an amazing find in a beautiful village. The rooms were clean but not fancy. Free wi-fi. The free breakfast was locally baked bread, fruit, yogurt, coffee and cooked to order eggs. The hotel was just around the corner from the fortress ruins and a market.
Review 45:Wifi is problematic, extremely slow with many disconnections. Breakfast is fair. Please fix the wifi issues to get near to perfect score.
Review 46:Excellent clean comfortable rooms, amazing view. The hotel has nice gardens, staff is very helpful.
Review 47:Wifi did not work well but not a huge deal breaker
Review 48:Great value for your money. Very clean. Very big rooms with attractive furniture. Great buffet breakfast with lots of choices including eggs, fresh fruit, freshly squeezed juice, cold cuts, cheese, yogurt, cereals. We stayed here before and after we went to Machu Picchu. We stayed in a Quadruple room on the 2nd floor the first time and then in 2 double rooms on the first floor the 2nd time we came back. We will definitely book the 2 doubles again next time. We recommend this place in a heartbeat. Staff is so friendly. Double rooms had heater and dryer. Quad room did not have heater or dryer. Hot shower always worked. I wish we could have stayed more days in Ollantaytambo and this hotel. Great location - near restaurants, market, ruins, train station. You can walk everywhere.
Review 49:Bathroom was not working and we had to call them 3 times before they finally came. Wi-fi reception in Quad room was bad. Our Quad room was on the 2nd flr.
Review 50:We love this hotel! Great price. Great ambiance. Great location close to restaurants, store, train station, ruins. Great Breakfast - fresh fruit, made to order eggs, freshly squeezed juice, cold cuts, cheese, cereals, yogurt. Very friendly staff. We stayed in a Quadruple Room. Room was big and very clean. We had a little trouble with the bathroom but they did come fix it. Hot shower worked without problem. We love Ollantaytambo and wished we had stayed one or 2 more nights here. We definitely recommend this hotel to anybody who wants great value for their money.
Review 51:Nothing. Everything was great.
Review 52:Everything about this place was great. Good facilities. Great location and friendly, helpful staff. Got a great sleep here on our stop over to Machu Picchu.
Review 53:Staff were very helpful and spoke quite good English. We stayed here twice - before and after MP. First room was a little tight, 2nd room was very spacious. Beds were great with quality linen towels. Breakfast was lovely with eggs prepared for you, fresh fruit and juices and the local bread. In a country with incredible variability in quality, we were surprised at just how well this little Hotel was presented and managed - surprisingly good value, look no further.
Review 54:Booking.com "Wifi rating" should be based on more than cost. Free wifi that doesn't work or has low bandwidth is of no value. I needed more bandwidth.
Review 55:They securely stored our two bags for 5 days and used claim tickets to ID bags to avoid mix ups.
Review 56:Located in a small alley close to the main square in Ollantaytambo and 5 minutes walk to the train station. You are pleasantly surprised when you enter the hotel by a small yet beautiful courtyard with flowers and a tiny lawn. The staff was extremely helpful and accommodating. They made breakfast early for us because we wanted to catch the early train. Eggs and really thick pancakes for breakfast is a plus.
Review 57:Location on a quiet back street, ten minutes walk from the train to Machu Picchu (five minutes, if you take a cheap, tiny taxi); pleasant room off an inner courtyard; very good, full breakfast; pleasant staff;
Review 58:The staff was very nice, with the exception of a lady that was not kind at all.
Review 59:The location was unbeatable. The patio door leads to a street that is a few steps from the entrance to Ollantaytambo ruins. The hotel is beautiful and cozy, we had a family room with a double bed and two singles for the children and couldn't be happier. A good value for the price. Breakfast was very good too.
Review 60:Not a good internet service poor signal all over town. Couldnt pay with credit card because of internet service.
Review 61:Beautiful location and some of the staff was very kind.
Review 62:Friendly staff, fantastic location, Like the architecture of the hotel The sacred valley is a beautiful place to stay. Don't just come for the day. It is peaceful when all the tour buses leave Have lunch at the Helping hearts cafe. They give back to the community, it is close by and great food
Review 63:The road of the path of the hotel
Review 64:Everything is fine. The road in front of the hotel is not well for wheels of luggages. The staffs were nice to assist casting them for us! Sweet ladies!! Thank you. The room is clean and nice.
Review 65:The hot water supply was not decent, on and off intermittently. Their night shift staff wasn't very friendly. He did not speak English and was impatient when I notified him there's no hot water in my friend's bathroom.
Review 66:Hidden on the side of the alley, this place is quite, clean and ideal for a nice rest after coming back from Machu Picchu. It has a really nice patio, with view of Ollayantambo ruins. The breakfast was delicious and more choices than normal hostel
Review 67:This is a great hotel. Super location next to the ruins, on a walking street with nice courtyard. Good and complete breakfast. Very nice staff.. There was nothing that we did not like about this property! It was maybe a ten - 15 minute uphill walk from the train station, turn left at the end of that street, cross over the river and go toward the ruins to find the hotel. Do not go to the main square of the town.
Review 68:Beds were comfortable but a heavy set of older blankets were used between clean linens. Kept us warm though.
Review 69:Unique, authentic village atmosphere. Easy access to early morning train to Machu Picchu and great for late night return train, rather than adding a bus trip to and from Cuzco to a long day.
Review 70:Stayed in 1st floor superior room & 2nd floor twins - very clean and large but they were very noisy due to people coming and going. Also stayed in the 3rd floor family suite. Very large and a bit quieter than 1st or 2nd floors. We found out that Peru is just a noisy place - this hotel is a winner.
Review 71:Location is perfect. Right in town near train station, ruins and main square. Stayed before Machu Picchu (left luggage) then returned after. Staff was wonderful, courtyard was peaceful and hotel was very clean. Would definitely stay here again. Also, Ollytantambo was our favorite town in all the Sacred Valley.
Review 72:Wi-Fi signal spotty at times Breakfast choice basic but typical for Peru. Inner courtyard could be quite noisy especially when tour groups arrive or depart. Easy to hear guests in adjoining room.
Review 73:Excellent location only steps from the Incan ruins. Views from second floor rooms onto ruins spectacular. Clean and well-maintained facility. Allowed free luggage storage while we were away at Machu Picchu for three days.
Review 74:- Poor Internet (maybe it's a thing in the entire town) - You may have to carry your bags some blocks (cobblestone, narrow streets where most cars don't go)
Review 75:- The town itself, very nice and unique - Quiet hotel - Good breakfast - Easy check-in/check-out processes - Very clean - Near to artisan's square
Review 76:Wifi was hardly working in our room.
Review 77:Shelly was very quick in helping us with hiring a car and guide. She also negotiated for us to have better price on the car and advised us how to save money on hiring a guide.
Review 78:Price quoted on booking.com was in dollars but upon payment this place would not allow anyone to pay by credit card in dollars. Instead they used a bogus exchange rate to have people pay by cc in Soles and for an extra fee at that. They kept referring people to the ATMs in town which do not dispense dollars or had long run out of dollars. To some customers they demanded money immediately, which was just rude. In addition, the Wi-Fi was basically inoperable. The laundry service was poor with laundry returned late, inside out, and unfolded.
Review 79:Lovely rooms and courtyard and a nice quiet location.
Review 80:Wifi never worked in room or even in lobby. Had to sit in front of router which is located outside on covered patio behind reception desk to get Internet connection.
Review 81:Breakfast wasn't great. The shower wasn't hot enough and drained poorly. The bathroom had no ventilation. Wifi was very inconsistent.
Review 82:Friendly and helpful staff, good location. Nice rooms.
Review 83:Beautiful property, spacious comfortable room with three beds, cable TV, really hot water, terrific view, 8 minute walk to train station, 5 minute walk to the center of town, close to shopping and ruins. The staff were very professional and helpful.
Review 84:Having to leave - just a great hotel, great people, great small town. Didn't like Lima one bit - wish we'd added the 2 nights there to this place.
Review 85:The staff were simply incredible. They could not do enough (we had a few 'hiccups' to sort - they went well beyond the call of duty to assist). Locations without a doubt perfect... just off the main square, away from the trundling vehicles going thro' the place. Really wish we had stayed for 2 more days - much more to see and do, & the ambience of Ollantaytambo was brill'.
Review 86:Because I was sick, I couldn't eat breakfast. But my friend said it was pretty basic, and for some reason, fresh milk (rather than condensed) is hard to find throughout Peru. It's not a reflection of the hotel per se, but if you are wanting a big spread before scaling MP, I just want to manage expectations.
Review 87:This hotel belongs in a picture book! It's beautiful with a charming courtyard and flowers everywhere. We had originally planned to stay one night, but I got very sick the day we were to head to Machu Picchu, and needed to stay another night upon returning that evening...the staff quickly accommodated. Our first room was a bit small, but the second room they gave us was quite large and beds in both rooms were very comfortable. Also the location is removed enough from the main pueblo thoroughfares to not be noisy, but still in the heart of the town, so easy access to restaurants and a 10 min walk to the train station.
Review 88:Not much I didn't like, slow wifi and very basic breakfast.
Review 89:Spacious room, great location right off the market and ruins, beautiful garden courtyard and free wifi. Note that there are no elevators so you may need to carry your luggage up some flight of stairs. Not too far from station and about a 5 minute walk to the park/square.
Review 90:Wifi is Almost non-exsistent. We booked a double room, but when we arrived the staff told us they have only twin room for us. I don't understand cuz it should be impossible to overbook. They promised to help us change to a double room, but then the next day they say there's no double room left again. What a joke.
Review 91:Nice facilities, good shower water, close to restaurants and train station, good luggage storing service
Review 92:Could hear noise from the street at night. No heater in the hotel room.
Review 93:Hotel was extremely beautiful and while the street of the hotel is a bit hidden, its easy to get to from the main village and road and a 15 minute walk from the train station.
Review 94:We loved the room, with it's stone walls and niches that were like the ruins. The staff was great, very helpful and it was a quiet, very well run hotel. It was an easy walk to the ruins or into town. There is no air conditioning or heating system but they have a small space heater that did the job adequately.
Review 95:No heating so it gets very cold. I had asked for a queen bed but got a room with 2 twins. Breakfast was mediocre. Internet is useless. Spotty signal and very slow. Had to pay 5% extra since we paid with card and not cash. This was not advertised.
Review 96:Good location.
Review 97:This place offers a great location & it is very clean & comfy. Breakfast is also good. I found the room very small to stay for 3 nights (but the price obviously justifies that).
Review 98:They need to sell filtered water tourist can fill water bottles with. Mindful evo tourism!
Review 99:Close to fortress ruins, town square and train station. Enjoyed rooms, we stayed in a a 3 to 4 person family room with private bath. Decent breakfast, friendly front desk.
Review 100:Stayed their on way to Machu Picchu and again on way back from Machu Picchu. First room was excellent; one of the nicest of our whole trip. Mountain views and very spacious. Second was tight with only a view of internal courtyard.
Review 101:Wifi didnt work consistently in room. Fairly normal for MP pueblo and sacred Valley hotels.
Review 102:Rooms had a warm friendly feel. Bathroom was good including soap, towels, hairdryer. Wifi in libby and breakfast room. Breakfast was good, included eggs made to order, simple selection of breads, quinoa cereal, yogurt, ham. Staff at desk was friendly. Ample bathrooms throughout facility. Luggage storage after checkout and to go to MP was secure. Temperature of room good. Blankets ample and warm. Courtyard decorated with plants and fresh flowers. Walking distance to fortress, train station, chocolate museum. Coffee Tree, Mayu Cafe, Hearts Cafe. Yummy. Stayed 4 days here and tour companies, Maras Adventures and Llama Pack Peru picked us up at the doorstep of Tikaeasi Hotel!! Very very fun and informative. So very good.
Review 103:The location-right next to the ruins. We arrived at night and the hotel arranged for someone to meet us at the train station and walk us to the hotel. They gave recommendations for restaurants and activities. The staff were very patient with my broken Spanish! The rooms were clean and nicely decorated. Perfect stay.
Review 104:The breakfast should be improved: fresh bread, fresh fruits, toaster.
Review 105:The staff, the location very close to the site of ollantaytambo. The hotel id small and very relaxing.
Review 106:Our room was located on the street side, so it was a bit noisy - some sound insulation would be recommended.
Review 107:Very friendly and helpful staff. Nice and cozy accommodations.
Review 108:Staff were friendly and helpful. Place was well located, clean, and perfect as a starting point for Machu Picchu Inca Trail. Can't recommend enough.
Review 109:WiFi was a little unreliable and generally slow
Review 110:Comfortable bed Warm room View of ruins on 2 sides, so close it felt like we could reach out & touch the terraces Lovely garden Really appreciated the clean, bright, airy room & bathroom when we were sick and confined Gentle women who ran the place
Review 111:Wifi was a little slow at times. But this seems to be standard all around town.
Review 112:Great location ib Ollantay. Monutes walk from the square and ruins. station is about 10 minute walk or tuk tuk it for 2 sol.
Review 113:Breakfast is very basic, but breakfast bread was tasty.
Review 114:Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Reception girl met us and was extremely friendly. She showed me few rooms so I can pick up the one I prefer. The facility is super clean. Very comfy, relaxing and stylish. Want to go back!
Review 115:Price had been quoted in euro but hotel insisted on either sols or dollars at specified exchange rate.
Review 116:Very nice hotel with friendly staff. Hotel arranged for taxi to collect us from airport and despite flight delay taxi wasthere
Review 117:WI-FI reception to our room kept cutting off, could be related to distance of the router to my room. Breakfast was very basic compared to other places I stayed.
Review 118:Excellent location and the staff was very helpful in giving suggestions or directions to places in town.
Review 119:Asked staff for extra pillows, did not receive them. Asked for wake up call, did not get it. Breakfast was from 0630-0830, it was always late.
Review 120:Location. Also this hotel is actually Inca ruins.
Review 121:My main issue with the hotel is that there was no heat in the room. Tempwould drop to 55f/12c at night and although we could sleepcomfortably under the warm and thick bed spread, getting out of theshower was terrible. We had to use the hair dryer to keep ourselves warmand warm up our clothes before putting them on because the room was coldin the morning. Wifi was also a bit spotty here and there. And as othershave mentioned, the bathroom floor got a little flooded after a shower.
Review 122:The location was great. 10 minute walk to the train station. We foundthe room to be very clean. Staff was very helpful. This was the casethroughout our stay in Peru. They made breakfast available to us beforethe designated times since we were leaving for mp.
Review 123:The breakfast here was minimal - you got one fried egg and some cut fruit and a piece of bread. This could definitely use improvement.
Review 124:Tikawasi is literally steps from the ruins at Ollantaytambo! Its a well kept place run by nice people. Its a 15 minute walk down to the train station. They've got Direct TV so you can watch TV in English or Spanish - a bonus for our teenagers!
Review 125:Wifi was pretty much non-existent despite having five different connections - none of them worked hardly at all. Room 102 - original stonework in the bathrooms meant that the walls didn't sit flush and the room next to us was smoking in their bathroom and it filtered into ours annoyingly. Not exactly the hotel's issue but still a problem for us. We did let them know.
Review 126:Location was fantastic to ruins and plaza, clean and comfortable, staff very helpful with tours and information and happily provided heaters when needed. Also did a good exchange rate. Decor is tasteful and sensitive to the original architecture. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again and recommending this hotel.
Review 127:I had booked a double superior room with a garden view. I had specified a double bed. The room we were given had a very small double + one single with no garden view. When I went to the desk to enquire about this I was told that the room is superior as it "has a TV and heater which standard rooms do not have". The girl then asked if I could pay for my entire duration of stay there and then, bearing in mind I still had two nights remaining. I found that to be quite rude as her tone implied she was unsure if I would pay later as I queried the room. I did pay on check-out.
Review 128:The area, close to the square and the train station
Review 129:nice,clean room with beautiful views of ruins. helpful staff found tour of sacred valley, pick up from airport at reasonable price. 10mn by foot from train to Macchu Picchu, kept luggage. great location, safe and quiet. breakfast ok.
Review 130:If you are just overnighting between bus and train you need to go up and down a hill. Even though it is a cold place they have no heating, and not even a small heater to use if you ask for it.
Review 131:It's convenient in location, the staff are lovely and helpful, the rooms are nicely furnished. Breakfast was good also.
Review 132:Location isn't easy to find, and need to carry your own bags there
Review 133:Very accommodating, they watched our bags while we spent a few nights in Machu Picchu. Great location for visting the ruin in Olly
