Reviews for Quinta Das Heredias

Review 1:Our host was very informative, friendly, attentive, and an excellent cook. He taught us about port and olive oil production on his property of 84 acres which produces organic wines and port, olives, oranges, cherries and grows the cork for it's own bottling. It was fascinating to learn about the manual labour used for all harvesting because of the hillside terraces, so different from the large machinery used in our Canadian prairies. We would highly recommend a visit.

Review 2:The owner is amazing..interesting, funny, original and welcoming. Nice room, good wine, a very positive experience. Have dinner with Luis, you'll never regret!

Review 3:We had an amazing stay. The Quinta has an amazing location, on a slope overlooking the valley with vineyards and olive and fruit trees. The view from our room was magnificent. Luis is a great host. He is great company and made us feel directly at home, he showed us the cellars and took the time to go for dinner with us. We got to taste his great ports, his wine and the olive oil. Breakfast with homemade and regional products on the terrace was very good.

Review 4:Luis is very hospitable and has a gift for details. The rooms are excellent, the port and wine tasteful and the location breath taking. There are many delicious fresh products to taste and Luis has many tips on the picturesque surrounding area.

Review 5:Around the swimming pool there is no wifi available. Luiz tries to be the best host you can imagine but seems to be a bit nervous. Although I like him, he is not a typical easy going person.

Review 6:Luis (the owner of the house and the quinta) really likes to tell you more about port wine, restaurants or his own wines! Our bed room was clean and the bed is comfortable. Breakfast is delicious and if you want you cab also have a lunch.

Review 7:No individual air conditioning in a room? Limited WiFi coverage. Sound proofing can be improved. Quite a lot of insects in & around the swimming pool. Breakfast is limited. The housekeeping maid was a bit grumpy throughout our stay.

Review 8:Friendly welcoming. Great view. Nicely renovated building. The windy road towards the property is definitely doable. TIP: use the GPS coordinates when in doubt.

Review 9:In the Douro region, cellphone coverage isn't too great but if you are, like we were, looking for some peace time with limited internet and network access, it's perfect.

Review 10:We just adored our wonderful host who prepared delicious dishes and spoke of many life ventures, explaining his passion for wine, the Douro and Portugal.

Review 11:Our host was welcoming and offered us a complimentary tasting of his port wine on arrival (delicious). Wifi only works in reception but no other negatives. We had a 4-5 course degustation dinner one night cooked by our host ehich was excellent value for money! I'd also recommend walking down to the little creek at the bottom of the property as it's a nice place to relax and have a swim.

Review 12:Road down to quinta a little intimidating the first time. Okay after travelled once but probably wouldn't after dark. Room a bit on small side but huge amount of social space more than made up for it.

Review 13:Luis, our generous host, took us to town to excellent restaurants we would never have found on our own. Luis also gave us suggestions for a day of touring. Loved visiting his wine cellar. Great views from all rooms. Good hiking right from quinta. All the fresh fruit you want straight off the tree.

Review 14:Nothing!

Review 15:Luis is a fantastic host!!! We spent 3 nights in the Quinta and really did not want to leave. Good food and the best porto wine!!! The house is surrounded with blooming orange trees. The best place in Douro to taste the wine!!

Review 16:We had the pleasure to stay for a night at the lovely Quinta das Heredias. Beautifully located, you can get a great view of the hills of Douro valley, embellished by its vineyards and famous almond trees. Our host Luis not only offered us a peek into his own wine production, but also great company in one of the local restaurants in the area where we could enjoy the specialities of the Douro Valley. We can recommend this to anyone who loves to get to know Portugal and the Douro Valley.

Review 17:- Challenging access via a steep down-hill twisting road. It's not as difficult as it looks, though, we've never had real problems. - Nearest restaurant is 7km away. - Smaller and slightly worn rooms.

Review 18:- Luis is a FANTASTIC host, very caring for his visitors. - Good communication in English. - Cellar visit with wine-tasting. - Excellent dinner for good price (needs to be pre-arranged). - Possibility to walk in the Quinta and taste fruits from trees (figs, oranges, almonds, grapes, ...). - Nice valley view from some rooms. - Swimming pool.

Review 19:Only knock against the place is the narrow somewhat scary road to descend into the grounds. It was partly as a North American, my discomfort with the cobblestones and narrowness.

Review 20:Loved the location and wonderful host and staff. Owner is very knowledgeable on wine and port and the region and very willing to help. We booked late and he was not prepared for us but when we asked for some cheese/bread and wine, he produced a wonderful feast for us in a matter a 10 minutes. Wonderful host and a very unique experience. We really wished that we could have stayed longer. We swam in the river below the Quinta and in the pool. Would recommend to anyone.

Review 21:A great location on a farm in the hills. The building is completely renovated inside. The owner offers dinner option, including some local/ self-grown products!

Review 22:The location was absolutely stunning and the host was crazy in the best possible way

Review 23:Kind host, good wine

Review 24:Helpful owner, beatifull place, very good service.

Review 25:Beautiful place and warm people

Review 26:Zero

Review 27:The Location is breathtakingly beautiful The host was brilliant entertaining and informative made us feel very comfortable he is passionate about his Quinta and Portugal and Life

Review 28:Not much to do without a car.

Review 29:Friendly and welcoming people (mostly Luis), stylish interiors, amazingview from the window (oranges and olives), very good port wine.

Review 30:at least when the house is not full, it is quiet - during high season the noicy stairs and doors might be disturbing

Review 31:very quiet location, the quinta is a nice place to explore in itself, staff very attentive and caring (went a long way to get me some bread I can eat due to allergies)

Review 32:Because you are sharing a house with your host it is not as relaxing - you are conscious of being in someone's home - with regard to watching TV, making a coffee etc. The site said there were washing facilities but we were told we were not able do our own washing but it could be done for us. At checkout - 14 items of washed (no ironing) clothing cost us 45 Euros! Negotiated this back to 30 Euros but still felt ripped off? We enjoyed a lovely meal and it was well worth the 25 Euro charged but at no time were we presented with any menu/pricing - just asked if we wanted dinner that night so I think more information regarding cost of things is required to avoid any possible bad feelings.

Review 33:Location is beautiful and the house is very well presented. Young lady who looked after us was delightful! Dinner and wine was very good and portions generous.

Review 34:not entirely clear navigation to the house from the main road

Review 35:local food and beverages, quiet place in the hilly landscape, personal care and friendly attitude, nice house furnished with antique pieces of furniture,

Review 36:The staff is amazing but bear in the mind that this place is a guesthouse, staff will do their best as if you were their guest. This place is not an ordinary hotel, if you love honest people, nature and the best country side place this is the house to stay.

Review 37:Only comment is that our room was quite small, compared to others.

Review 38:What a beautiful place is this! In the heart of Douro valley at a winery with a host who tells you endlessly about his porto wines, his family trade and welcomes everyone with a portwine. We had a nice diner with other guests prepared by the cleaninglady and the hostess: all Portugese food, made with love and filled with a nice country spirit. A mountainview, winding roads, a swimming pool and total silence made this a memorable experience for cityfolks from Holland.

Review 39:Nothing I didn't like, but the organisation which a bit lax i.e no sign to where to get into the house, nobody to answer the door until about 15 minutes ringing. I phoned 3 times beforehand to get directions and nobody answered the phone. But still a lovey place!

Review 40:The owner was very friendly, and interesting. We loved the loved meal with his own wines and the explanations which went with them. The setting was tremendous and the poll was welcome after a long hot day touring.

Review 41:The spiral staircase was difficult to manage when carrying thesuitcases. The lack of air conditioning in the bedroom made it a veryuncomfortable night of fierce heat and vicious mosquitoes. Dogs shouldnot be allowed on the grass in the pool area, and the pool robot cleanershould be removed from the water when the pool is being used. Breakfastwas very poor in variety, quality and presentation--only stale bread andthin slices of plastic cheese, ham and jam. The tea was cold and weak, and there was only one brand of cereal. Management and staff werehowever the weakest link! From the word go they spent the entire staycomplaining about each other. The owner, Sr. Luis, has no clue how tonurture the clientele. He's set in his ways and it's no surprisehe had to drop the prices in the middle of high season. Be aware he didnot take credit cards, claiming the machine was broken, and asked forcash instead. Great shame this place deserved better management!

Review 42:Beautiful house, great location, and a nice pool.

Review 43:We didn't feel wellcomed. Lots of biting insects, which we were not informed about. The sign posting could be improved, steep hill down to the Quinta.

Review 44:Nice location

Review 45:This was a fantastic place to stay. We absolutely loved the staff and were so impressed by the quality of service. The food was regional cuisine made from homegrown produce and all the wine was made by the quinta. We'd definitely stay here again just for the scenery, staff and the food. If you're looking for a unique experience and a true taste of the Duoro Valley, this is the place for you.
