Reviews for Apu Lodge

Review 1:The staff was fantastic, specifically Gustavo who's knowledge of the area and recommendations of local services and restaurants made our trip far better than we could have hoped for.

Review 2:Our group of 6 felt like we got worked for an expensive dinner by Gustov. Coffee needs to be made available earlier in the morning.

Review 3:This property is beautiful, perfect for a stay to recover from hiking the Inca Trail! (aka swinging in the hammocks) Laundry was available and done overnight. Delicious breakfast.

Review 4:I got robbed some Euro cash out of my suitcase when I took a taxi from the city's main place to Cusco (probably during some taxi stops). This is not the hotel's fault - just a remark at this place to stay careful, even when you feel just you stay in a warm and friendly environment

Review 5:The scenery of this place, joint with a warm and authentically friendly service, is just unique. The room equipment is somewhat basic, but you really feel at home and not just like someone behind a room number

Review 6:Only one issue with Apu Lodge - being a wooden floored building with thin walls, it was easy to hear people in the next room or upstairs. Ok if your neighbours are quiet overnight but if they're noisy, sleeping can be a little difficult.

Review 7:Gustavo and his staff were absolutely wonderful! We had to stay an extra night because of a general staff strike in Peru and we were so glad that we were at Apu Lodge for the strike. Gustavo is a chef and makes the best omelettes we've ever had. He also put on a special degustation dinner for the guests when the strike resulted in closed restaurants. His team also organised tours, taxis, laundry etc. Apu Lodge really looks after its clients. Also, if you have an upstairs room, you have a stunning view of the mountains and ruins.

Review 8:Apu Lodge was a lovely retreat! We stayed on the second floor -- great shower, nice room with door to "balcony" overlooking garden. Very good breakfast. Very friendly and helpful hosts. They encouraged us to fill our water bottles with their filtered water to avoid our buying/using plastic disposable bottles; very eco conscious!! Would recommend highly.

Review 9:The breakfast was fine, but limited (eggs (a su gusto), bread, juice). There was a very cute kitten on the grounds who was not very friendly. The wifi did not work in the rooms, nor very well or consistently in the common area. No TV! The walls are a bit thin, so if you're feeling amorous, others will definitely hear.

Review 10:The grounds of Apu Lodge are quite lovely, as the hotel is located right at the foot of the mountains surrounding Ollantaytambo and is nestled into the stone gridwork of the ancient city. Listening to the babbling brook while laying in the hammocks at night was memorable. The hotel is comfortably removed from the cloud of exhaust hanging above the plaza de armas, and is downright serene. The hot shower was amazing and the water pressure was unreal-- not to be found anywhere else in Peru, guaranteed.

Review 11:Sleeping was difficult because we were too warm using down comforter and not warm enough without it. We frequently did not have hot water. WiFi only available in lobby.

Review 12:Spectacular view of mountains and ruins. Quiet surroundings.

Review 13:Never ever get a rom at ground level, you heard everything above you. The soap suppliée was even not enought to just clean my face.No WIFI in the room, no radio, No clock, No possibility for a wake-up call. May be good hotel for bag back travellers, not ous style sorry.

Review 14:The first look, Was clean outside and well maintain. Personal was ok

Review 15:A wonderful place to stay in Ollantaytambo. In addition to hiking and seeing the ruins, Apu Lodge offers a sweat lodge and ceremonies on the property. Great restaurant suggestions too. Get up early to see the ruins before the busses arrive.

Review 16:The Internet was a little slow, but that's how it was everywhere.

Review 17:We loved how the property was away from the main square, as it made for a peaceful, serene stay. The staff were very accommodating and helped with all our needs. Great breakfast!

Review 18:Nothing

Review 19:Friendly and clean place a few minutes walk from the main square. The staff are super, giving a family feel straight from the arrival and rich in advice and recommendations in and around Ollanta...

Review 20:The Lodge is located at the far end of a narrow cobblestone alley. where no car can enter. We had to carry our heavy luggage all the way from the main square to the Lodge through the cobblestone alley which was very difficult for us. The alley is also very dark in the evening and a bit scarry. The facilities in the room are very basic, wifi connection is not good.

Review 21:The Staff/Manager, Ruth was very helpful. She has replied to my email before our arrival with all the information required. She arranged a taxi to pick us up at Cusco airport and we could visit places like Pisac market and the ruins on the way to the Lodge. The driver is very helpful and assisted us to pick up our entrance tickets to Inti Raymi at Cusco 's office.(we bought the tickets online, but had to pick them up upon arrival) After our stay, we put our luggage in the Lodge during our visit to Machu Picchu. In the next evening, after our return from MP, Ruth arranged a taxi to carry the luggage to the train station, picked us up and transferred us back to Cusco so that we did not need to go back to the Lodge to pick up our luggage. All are arranged with good organisation.

Review 22:Wifi wasn't great but this is a small village and we never really expected it to work well

Review 23:This place was a delight in a quiet location in a lovely old town. Very comfortable and clean as a whistle. The staff could not have been more accomodating or friendly. Our family were all a little sick during our stay due to some dire food in Cusco. We just lay around at Apu Lodge on the lovely grass in the sun reading and dozing and gazing at the mountains. It was like recuperating in a sanitorioum and really recharged our batteries.

Review 24:Wi-Fi in this town is slow. Probably not fault of the lodge. Time to disconnect.

Review 25:The staff were very helpful and attentive to details. Great mix of local features and contemporary comforts. Love the free breakfast.

Review 26:WiFi is rather slow and limited to the central reception area.

Review 27:Staff is very friendly and willing to help with your plans. Location is also very nice, breakfast is a joy because of the fresh fruits.

Review 28:The lodge has good facilities for but do not expect a 5* resort. There are some minor hiccups (erratic availability of hot water, wifi signal quite poor and only available in the lobby). All in all however an excellent experience when travelling in the Sacred Valley.

Review 29:The location is amazing, beautiful garden, staff is extremely friendly. Excellent breakfast (not a lot of options though). In an excellent location to explore the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu (15 min walk to the train station). The lodge is on a pedestrian alley outside the centre of Ollantaytambo (no taxi access but the you can have your luggage carried to the lodge upon request), therefore there is barely anything that can spoil the peace and quiet. After two very relaxing days , the only regret was that we left way too early.

Review 30:Hot water is unreliable. Pillows are as thick as pancakes...neck breakers. Can you give us some clean towels....please?

Review 31:Staff was knowledgeable of area and extremely helpful. Fantastic view. Quiet and peaceful. Interesting guests.

Review 32:The hotel is away slightly out of the main town area which makes for a nice quiet retreat. Lovely gardens, rooms are simple, but clean. Soap is provided, but no bottled water,. The hotel has filtered water in the lobby. One has to walk to get to the lodge (about 5 mins max) and cannot drive to it. Lovely staff and excellent breakfast with fruit, cereal, bread, etc. Staff set breakfast out for us early (6am) as we had to leave early to hike the Inka trail. My only regret is that I should have stayed two nights.

Review 33:Helpful staff, spoke perfect English (not that we expected it but, I was a bonus). Nice breakfasts every morning, Hot water & pretty comfortable beds.

Review 34:My girlfriend and I loved this small lodge at the base of a sacred mountain covered with trails to Incan ruins. It was a beautifully landscaped, tranquil, happy place to be and we wish we had stayed here longer than three nights.

Review 35:We were a little unprepared for our "guided mediation walk" which was more challenging then we were expecting. Instead, it was a hike up the mountain, lasted over an hour and none of us brought water. Having said that, all were encouraged to do only what they felt comfortable doing.

Review 36:Interesting B&B with individual "huts". The staff was phenomenal and we had the best breakfast EVER. They were very helpful with arranging transportation and recommending restaurants.

Review 37:Beautiful gardens, quiet, internet, lots of places to hang out, free filtered water, tea and coffee, knowledgeable staff, comfortable sleeping and good bath facilities

Review 38:dogs bark through the night in ollantaytambo!

Review 39:wouldn't stay anywhere else in ollantaytambo. up a quiet street. wake up at sunrise to see the alpine glow on the mountains!

Review 40:Bathroom really simple, and smelling pi. Impossible to have a shower and don't have attached the shower curtin. Breakfast really ok, and the yoghurt wasn't homemade like I read. About the bad I've never had a noise bad like that. Really a shame because ollantaytambo it's a cute place.

Review 41:I like ollantaytambo and the ruins. Had a great dinner at El albergue hotel.

Review 42:Hot water erratic

Review 43:After a busy 2 weeks travelling this was an excellent place to relax and explore the sacred valley and Machu Picchu. The staff were friendly accommodation spot on garden wonderful haven of peace and location ideal for exploring the area

Review 44:Beautiful garden. Nice views over town and Inca ruins.

Review 45:Location and staff make this a great destination

Review 46:We should have used your offer of luggage assistance on arrival.we did on departure

Review 47:Desayuno algo justo pero correcto

Review 48:Everything

Review 49:An oasis of green and flowers. modern facilities, rather well designed. Very friendly staff. Make you feel at home and provide lots of good advices

Review 50:Only wi fi in one little entrance room

Review 51:The omelettes in the morning and amazing setting.

Review 52:Great Location, wonderful staff, fantastic views, delicious breakfast. Lots of helpful suggestions, couldn't have been better!

Review 53:nothing

Review 54:The atmosphere, the location, the rooms , the breakfast all awesome!

Review 55:The hotel is in a beautiful, relaxing setting and perfect location. The rooms are comfortable, and the breakfast delicious.

Review 56:Room was clean and large. Beds were comfortable and staff were pleasant.

Review 57:Feels like a little sanctuary in an amazing inca town. So peaceful and friendly. We didn't want to leave.

Review 58:The lodge was very comfortable and the gardens beautiful. The owner and the staff were very helpful and accommodating. I did not want to leave!

Review 59:Beautiful property and helpful staffs

Review 60:it is a beautiful spacious place located outside of the village, which is nice

Review 61:Room rate is to high for what you get, poor breakfast.

Review 62:Beautiful garden!

Review 63:getting warm water from the shower was tricky - either hot or cold.

Review 64:the view; the location - away from the main road

Review 65:Views and location and breakfast and purified water.

Review 66:No heat Water not always working not enough hot water

Review 67:Location View Staff Bag lunches to go

Review 68:The bed was a little hard.

Review 69:Absolutely beautiful landscape. The breakfast was excellent and the staff was very helpful. Our favorite place we stayed in the Andes.

Review 70:Wifi only available in reception -- however this wasn't a real issue as reception stays open late (which was uncommon in the Sacred Valley, based on our travels throughout other towns).

Review 71:The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, and the hotel offers lots of information about the area. The location is beautiful and convenient as well -- it was wonderful to sit in the garden in the morning with my coffee and breakfast. Very friendly and welcoming -- we would absolutely stay here again. Highly recommended!

Review 72:Although the staff pick up the luggage, it's a long walk over very uneven cobblestones & the path to the hotel was poorly lit at night. Hot water took forever to arrive.

Review 73:The staff were very helpful and went out of their way to provide assistance with luggage. We were tired so they ordered & picked up our dinner from a restaurant! The setting is lovely and very quiet.

Review 74:I dont normally do reviews but I am making an exception for this delighful accomodation. There were no negatives. Ollyantatambo was the highlight of our 4 weeks travelling & so was Apu Lodge. We have no hesitation ln recommending.

Review 75:We stayed at the Apu lodge for 4 nights in May. The lodge was incrediblybeautiful, clean and well maintained. It is situated on the edge of townoff a quiet pathway. We stayed on the second floor and the views werebreathtaking. The Apu serves breakfast every morning beginning at 7:30am. In addition to the granola, fresh fruit, milk, yogurt, coffee andcocoa tea, the staff makes eggs made to order. There is cocoa tea andcoffee in the lobby 24/7. The owner, Ruth, and the staff wereamazingly helpful, kind and friendly. During our stay, my son’s luggagewas missing for 4 days. Had it not been for the tireless efforts ofMiguel and Ruth, we never would have recovered our luggage. Moreover, Iincurred an eye injury during my stay and after we checked out, wereturned to the lodge for help. Ruth, the owner, arranged for a taxi toCusco and made me an appointment at medical clinic there immediately. Myeye was tended to and we were back on track in no time. I can’t tell youwhat a comfort it was to have someone so caring and trustworthy to relyon in our time of need so far from home. The Apu is an exceptional placeand, if I’m ever fortunate enough to stay in the Sacred Valley again, Iwould not consider staying anywhere else. I strongly recommend thatvisitors spend time in the Sacred Valley – and not just use it as a onenight stop over on their way to Machu Picchu. It is truly an amazingplace with a magic all its own.

Review 76:The location of Apu Lodge is amazing- up a stone path and then through a gate into a lovely garden. The rooms were large and comfortable, the staff remarkably friendly and helpful and the breakfasts fantastic.

Review 77:Unfortunately the power was out for the whole town in the morning, no hot water or Internet, but they offered discount!

Review 78:They were very helpful before our visit & gave us many good planning ideas. It was fresh, quiet, and a good value.

Review 79:The view is amazing!!! We really enjoyed it here. We stayed one night but I wouldn't have minded staying two. The hotel was clean with a nice breakfast included and hot water and comfortable beds. I love ollantaytambo. It's so much better than Machu Picchu! Less crowded and I think more beautiful. Definitely go see the ruins there! You will not be disappointed. We hired Apu Lodge transportation from cusco airport. It was great to have them there with a sign upon arrival as I suppose you could get a little disoriented. At $110 soles it's a bit expensive. We took a collectivo back to cusco from ollantaytambo for $15 soles a person. If I did it again I would probably just find a collectivo from cusco airport to ollantaytambo.

Review 80:Limited WiFi- though this was exacerbated by the non-Peruvian staff member who seemed to take up a lot of bandwidth watching movies and did not seem to be concerned that guests could not get online.

Review 81:Loved the scenery, the lovely Peruvian girl Carol who helped us out a lot, the beautiful town, the care we felt (ie the early breakfast left for us when we went to Machu Picchu early), lovely room, the quiet and peace. My 15 and 17 year olds loved this place over all others we stayed at in Peru. We had the most amazing view from our window!

Review 82:Very friendly staff: In the morning the whole village hasn't had electricity (due to some construction activities). So there was no hot water and no Internet in the lodge. Even if they were not responsible for this, they gave me a discount on the rate for that night.

Review 83:Very friendly and welcoming staff and guests. Great location with lovely gardens. Good to be away from the busy main road. Amazing views. Very good breakfast too!

Review 84:It should be taken into account that the hostel is located right in the end of a long-long paved street right at the opposite end of the town from the railway station - so be careful if you have a suitcase with wheels, a long paved walk is guaranteed.

Review 85:Lovely hostel, place right in the center of the old Inca town.

Review 86:Nothing to mention.

Review 87:Very quiet, great view from the rooms upstairs. Easy walking to center and ruinas. Free tea and coffee all day. Very helpful staff. We stayed 2 nights and enjoyed our time.

Review 88:The Apu Lodge was energetically clean and the staff was very accommodating. The location was also nice as it was located a short walk from the hustle and bustle of the main square. It also had beautiful views of the ruins.

Review 89:No TV in the room, internet only at the reception. No vehicle access, so we had to walk some with our bags to the hostel and back (when we left).

Review 90:Beautiful mountain view from the room and in general. The place is very calm and quiet. Breakfast was nice.

Review 91:Stunning view of the Ollantayntambo ruins. Hot water (Shower & for Tea) 24/7. Really helpful staff. Nice garden with hammock. Quiet because not directly in the center.

Review 92:There were bugs in our bathroom, the toilet didn't work and therewere no clean, dry towels available. This was problematic for us. TheInternet was very slow and spotty, not at all reliable.

Review 93:We were placed in a room with 4 beds, which is exactly what we needed.Hot water in the thermos was available most of the day and the breakfastservice was good.

Review 94:Fantastic little B&B close to the plaza del mas (town centre) and the train to Machu Picchu and Cusco. Awesome staff, Louise and her team are great and made me feel very welcome, and they are really very helpful in all ways. Rooms are very comfortable.

Review 95:Don't stay on the first floor unless you enjoy hearing really loudfootsteps above you. The shower temp was very difficult to control (I.E.cold 50% of the time) despite following the instructions posted. Poorwater pressure.

Review 96:Lovely charming garden, good breakfast, good location.

Review 97:The pressure of the shower was too sharp.

Review 98:Fantastic location! Waking up in the morning surrounded by the beautiful landscape was amazing. The garden was also very pretty and I loved the hammocks. The village is also very beautiful. Nice breakfast and on the day we had to leave at 5 in the morning, they left everything prepared from the night before. Also do packed lunches for a small extra cost. Very homely.

Review 99:Sheets do not stay on mattressñ no mattress pad. Horrid room decor, hideous paintings, low ceilings, ugly interior design in a gorgeous location. Overpriced for a crummy looking place.

Review 100:The secluded location

Review 101:Closest road access is a 10 minute uphill bag drag over uneven cobblestones.

Review 102:Friendly staff, good location, nice room with a view.

Review 103:I loved the location and the grounds. It was a beautiful, wonderful place. The staff is amazing and so helpful.

Review 104:It's a little long street...

Review 105:Wonderful! We simply loved it!

Review 106:Would like to return for longer stay,,,

Review 107:Beautiful location! Comfortable rooms with view! Delicious breakfast! Enjoyable clientele!

Review 108:walk from Plaza de Armas up to it with luggage. Should have called them and they would have come assisted us.

Review 109:Location, breakfast, value

Review 110:lovely building, decor, fabulous location, great breakfasts
