Reviews for El Albergue Ollantaytambo

Review 1:Generally all good and rooms were clean apart from the trail of ants in our bathtub. No big deal though as I'm sure the staff would have dealt with it if we asked!

Review 2:Helpful staff, great breakfast, location practically in train station so good if you're heading to Machu picchu. You must try the restaurant, fresh food and nice atmosphere - remember to pre-book. Ollantaytambo is a great little town and good base for machu picchu.

Review 3:Railroad tracks! Far to walk into town. Would reccomend only the upgraded rooms. Standard rooms were awful!

Review 4:The grounds were beautiful and the facility was quaint. Food was good. Liked that there was a restaurant & bar onsite.

Review 5:Bed was hard and solar heated water was really Luke warm to cold

Review 6:The food was amazing!! Grown onsite! The garden and ambiance was awesome!! So much charm..

Review 7:Everything was perfect. One of my favorite hotels I've stayed at. Definitely stay here and travel for the day to Machu Pichu as opposed to staying anywhere in Aguas Calientes. Some of the best food I've ever eaten!!!

Review 8:Late risers might consider an other place due to train shunting noise starting from 04:00 a.m. due to the location next to the train station ;)

Review 9:Very charming place next to Ollantaytambo's train station, lovely rooms and great restaurant.

Review 10:It was a bit difficult finding the hotel. Maybe if they can have someone greet their guests at the train station it would be super. They are very close to the train station anyways.

Review 11:Very cozy, helpful staff, very convenient location to train & shops. I loved the live music in the Restuarant & unique garden.

Review 12:The rooms, gardens, restaurant, cafe and overall ambiance are perfect. The organic farm is an inspiration. The owners of El Albergue are executing flawlessly both the details and their vision...

Review 13:Friendly staff, great restaurant...and they went out of their way to get my mobile phone back to me when I left it behind. Location at railway station is very atmospheric.

Review 14:Be aware where your room is. From what we saw, rooms 15 and 16 are the best!

Review 15:The best hotel we had in three weeks Peru/Bolivia. The rooms are perfect, the staff friendly and both the breakfast (included) and dinner comes from their own organic farm and is excellently prepared.

Review 16:It was only on the second day that the fumes from the trains entered our room in the early afternoon. We were able to sit in the garden which is a true oasis to mitigate the odors. This never happened in the evening and the trains did not bother us in the evening. It must have been the trains that stopped in an unusual place on that day.

Review 17:My husband and I arrived from Cusco and the room was ready for us by 11 am which is a couple of hours before standard check in. We enjoyed looking at the organic orchard which is a perfect segue to our restaurant experience. We ate 3 dinners at the Albergue because we simply trust their culinary practices. Our expert waiters Miguel, Jennifer and the lovely Marina made us feel comfortable at the Albergue immediately. I plan to return to Ollantaytambo and to stay there again. Thank you so much.

Review 18:Organic garden and the best food in Peru! Best bar attracting weary but adventuresome travellers from far and wide! Do not miss the chance to stay here!

Review 19:The less experienced expensive rooms are on the same side as the train platform so it can be a bit noisy/ feel like an earthquake with each train. Fortunately we were exhausted and they provided ear plugs!

Review 20:Location on the platform was exciting as people came/went to Machu Picchu and the restaurant was some of the best food we had in Peru.

Review 21:Didn't have much hot water, but not a big issue.

Review 22:The hotel is right beside the train station. This is super convenient. There is a little coffee shop connected to the restaurant which is part of the hotel too. The restaurant food is amazing. I didn't expect much from the hotel, but it was by far the best stay ever. The room was clean, they provided earplugs, fresh water, post cards, fruits, pen and pencil, there was a sign to not use too much hot water, and free wifi. I knew it was going to be a little noisy at night when trains went by, but I had earplugs in and didn't hear a thing. We had to leave early from the hotel, before the breakfast started and they provided a to-go breakfast bag for us. We did a 10 min stroll into town and there was a festival going by. It was a cool experience.

Review 23:The size of the trout for the priced charged. The potatoes were very dry on all orders except as fries. The awful French Toast. I can only think that there was a different chef that morning that had no idea how to prepare French Toast.

Review 24:The facility was wonderful. The dining area was beautiful and very comfortable. The meals were very good. The eggs cooked to order were very good. The alpaca burger was the best burger i've ever had (I think). The brownie the First time was superb but the next time they changed the recipe and it was not very good. The rooms were good. Our rooms were over the dining room/lobby next to the train tracks. We never were disturbed at all with the sounds of the train or other guests. I would recommend everything except for trout and French toast.

Review 25:kept our bags while we went to macho picchu, arranged for taxi to take us to cusco on our return. very nice restaurant. beautiful setting. even an organic garden!

Review 26:Right at train station so some noise from idling trains and train whistles which I did not find bothersome.

Review 27:Great room, aesthetic, comfortable, well located, great restaurant

Review 28:Our stay was good however we are extremely disappointed but the lack of response to an email I sent on 4th March outlining our displeasure regarding our v expensive, overcharged taxi price to Cusco. I waited before writing this review to see if I would get a response but to date haven't. My advice - don't use their taxi service. Disappointing end to a great holiday in Peru where the hotel, hostel and B and B service, apart from here, has been outstanding. Really expected more from a hotel like this

Review 29:location, garden, the fabulous waitress who made sure we got a cooked b/f before our early train to Machu Pichu on the 3rd March

Review 30:Our room was right net to the railway so it was a bit noisy. An interior would have been better. Internet connection was very slow and did not work all the time.

Review 31:Proximity to train station is a plus when you return exhausted from a one day excursion to Machu Picchu. The courtyard is lovely and the breakfast was excellent.

Review 32:Located right inside the train station it is great if you are getting an early train to Machu Picchu. Food was excellent and breakfast was the best in our 5 weeks in South America so leave enough time for it. Lovely character and not noisy.

Review 33:Noise from trains. Cannot bring vehicle to the hotel. Need to pull luggage from 150 meters through the gate which admits traoin passengers,

Review 34:Steps away from the train. Nice landscaping gardens. Good breakfast

Review 35:Nothing

Review 36:Hotel in fantastic setting with lovely gardens and on the train station to reach Machu Picchu at any time. Food was great and staff were very friendly.

Review 37:Wish there was wifi in the rooms, but that's hard to come by in Peru.

Review 38:The location was perfect for getting the early train to Machu Picchu, touring the ruins in Ollantaytambo, and for grabbing a taxi back to the Sacred Valley. We had a balcony in the back that was very quite, clean and offered a great night's rest. Breakfast was included and provided me gluten free options, and dinner was one of the best we had in the valley. The staff were absolutely exceptional, especially when I lost my cell phone, calling other hotels and the taxi company to try to track it down for me. They even let me use their office computer to block my account from online. And, the eucalyptus sauna was amaaazzing. You have to ask them about it, and it's a bit rustic. But so lovely! You can add water to make it very hot.

Review 39:This place was a gem! We were so tired from four days of hiking and it was the most quiet peaceful place to arrive to. The staff was super friendly and let us store our bags there while we hiked the Inca trail. The food was delicious and very fresh. And the rooms were clean and comfortable. The courtyard was beautiful with lots of flowers, birds and quiet places to sit and relax!

Review 40:A bit noisy at night because right next to train tracks. I found it bearable.

Review 41:Helpful staff, good value and restaurant and great location right next to train station to Macchu Picchu.

Review 42:My entire stay at El Albergue was a fantastic experience. The staff were friendly. The food was delicious and immaculately presented. The room was gorgeous (we had room 11 overlooking the cornfields and glaciers) and the garden in the morning and evening was delightful. We stayed for 2 days and had a good amount of time to enjoy the hotel properly and explore the town. I could not have had a better experience. This was one of the best hotels i have stayed at.

Review 43:We were in a room facing the street/railroad tracks, but slept well. Trains don't apparently run late at night and the double window helps to muffle sound. The grounds to the rear of the property are amazing, with sitting area gardens and organic farm. Food was great

Review 44:I never got the shower to work properly, scalding hot and freezing cold seemingly being it's only two temperatures. Suffice it to say, it took a while to have a shower.

Review 45:The food at this restaurant was unbelievable; very fresh and cooked exactly to specifications. The garden and courtyard were also fantastic - very beautiful with close-up views of the surrounding mountains. The rooms were charming, more in a rustic sense. Based on the reviews, I was expecting many more mosquitoes, but was pleasantly surprised to find that there really weren't that many, and what few there were were pretty small (I visited in late October). The staff were also extremely helpful, going so far as to organize our pick-up from Cuzco and also our drop-off there, with a few stops on the way for sight-seeing. Also, it's location right by the train tracks makes it the ideal location from which to travel to Machu Picchu.

Review 46:There is noise/exhaust from the train (I had wondered about that when booking but didn't see any comments online about the train. They were having water issues and the shower went from scalding to ice cold and back again. I felt the price was a little high. The wifi was slow (but this is a rural location)

Review 47:The interior courtyard was beautiful with plants and birds, including one of the largest hummingbirds we've ever seen. The room was nice. Breakfast was quite good.

Review 48:Staff was friendly and helpful, room was nicely decorated and comfy with nice outdoor seating (share stories with neighbors). Shower had hot water all day with outdoor seating. Food in restaurant was excellent. Great location! The sign at the reception about not feeding or touching the cats is funny since the cat(s) decided to jump on our laps every time we sat outside.

Review 49:Rooms were large, quiet and comfortable, the setting lovely and best of all, the great restaurant looking on to the station gives this hotel its character. A great place to stay in this living Inca town.

Review 50:No negatives!

Review 51:The entire property was so charming. The rustic decor was a mix of Spanish and native Peruvian designs with lots of natural wood. The center courtyard was filled with flowers and made one feel as if they were immersed in a secret hideaway. The staff was excellent; all spoke well-enough English and were extremely helpful. The onsite restaurant serves delicious food that is all locally sourced. The location right on the train platform makes for a very easy trip to Machu Picchu.

Review 52:Breakfast wasn't great. Had an issue with the bill and didn't have to to resolve on site as we had to catch our train to Machu Picchu. The hotel did rectify the situation after the fact though.

Review 53:Cannot beat the location and the views. Comfy bed and nice amenities.

Review 54:A great location, with fantastic staff. The restaurant is great. The house is beautiful, like stepping back in time. Very clean and the staff are amazing.

Review 55:The general Manager on site kept us waiting and answered multiple phone calls instead of assisting us

Review 56:Location is perfect, right next to train leaving for Aguas Calientes, Charming place with nice garden, good food, nice rooms

Review 57:Rooms a bit loud due to location.

Review 58:Best location in ollanta. Great staff. Delicious food.

Review 59:Fantastic staf; great location; picturesque; gourmet dining room; fair prices

Review 60:Staff were great, food was delicious. Jennifer was awesome in the restaurant and Oscar was an amazing host for our pachamanca farm lunch!

Review 61:Noise from trains

Review 62:Restaurant and grounds

Review 63:The grounds of the property are spectacular.

Review 64:Food was terrific; loved its commitment to sustainable practices.

Review 65:The staff went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable when we got stranded an extra 2 days in town due to the rail strike

Review 66:The most helpful staff!

Review 67:The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. They immediately assisted with any request and the food was amazing! Favorite stay of our trip.

Review 68:The great staff make this place great

Review 69:Fantastic ambiance Restaurang excellent

Review 70:The wood floor was very squeeky and woke other sleeper during trips to bathroom.

Review 71:Good location close to train station but long walk to town.

Review 72:Its location at the station with the best restaurant in town, the envy of other tourists.

Review 73:Nothing!

Review 74:Great location, beautiful, quiet gardens, amazing restaurant

Review 75:Everything

Review 76:Step out from breakfast onto the train to MP. Lovely food and coffee. Good travelers vibe in the afternoons.

Review 77:No bad experience

Review 78:Loved the gardens and the food

Review 79:Location at Ollantaytambo train station, full breakfast included in room rate, great food and service for dinner, tour of organic farm, good value

Review 80:The floor boards were creaky.

Review 81:Beautiful location. Comfortable room and beds. Fair pricing. Not too expensive.

Review 82:Location, comfort, wonderful restsurant

Review 83:Great hotel, beautiful gardens. Restaurant good was good but expensive for the area.

Review 84:Located inside the train station

Review 85:Perfect for coming back from machu picchu, directly off the train.the food is also AMAZING!

Review 86:Train noise and sink

Review 87:Restaurant

Review 88:Loved staying at the Albergue! Nice big room, good bed, nice ambiance. Most kind staff. Asked when booking a quiet room, which we got, in the garden, and the ever passing trains from early morning were no nuisance. The restaurant is just great! Food, ambiance and staff. Breakfast in the morning also perfect! you get to choose from a menu, and they offered my favourite french toast :)

Review 89:would have been nice to have a computer to use and a television with BBC or CNN as we were there for two nights

Review 90:the food was amazing the staff was very helpful

Review 91:The setting is a bit more rustic than I had expected. The location isn't the best because you are right next to the train station, and the noise can be disturbing. Wi-Fi wasn't working in our room.

Review 92:The staff were excellent. The breakfast was amazing. Everything was clean and aesthetically pleasing.

Review 93:The showers were tricky - but hot/warm water was there with proper adjustments. Turn the hot on, let it run until hot, then add the others and adjust as needed.

Review 94:The staff were exceptional! Sergio and Natalie helped us in so many ways - with emails to ensure travel there was arranged, cancellation of a double booking we somehow made for one day, storing luggage, and giving us information. The rest of the staff were cheerful and attentive as well. The restaurant had some of the best food we ate in Peru. Good quality, interesting choices, and fair prices. There was even live music at dinner one night. Breakfast was wonderful! We found the rooms simple, but the beds were immaculate and comfortable. People looking for things like the 4 or 5 star chains might not like this place, but we really did. The decor throughout the hotel was fun and interesting and the gardens outside were lovely.

Review 95:Waitress at dinner grumpy and rude. Poor waitressing skills. Rest of the staff a delight

Review 96:Location Breakfast Charming staff on reception Cosy classy rooms Views

Review 97:It is close to the train station but maybe a 15 Min walk to the center. No problem during the day but at night the street to walk back from the center is quite dark.

Review 98:Rustic and modern style of the rooms. Right next to the train station. Great breakfast option, you can choose one plate of the menu. Really comfortable beds! Free water in the room. Great backyard with hammocks.

Review 99:Perfect location right on the platform of the train station taking you to Machu Picchu. Friendly staff. Restaurant food was excellent my wife's favourite of our 3 1/2 week trip!

Review 100:The hotel didn't provide free coca tea to guests which is pretty standard in most less expensive hotels/hostels. It is quite expensive for the area but it an experience to stay on the station.

Review 101:The hotel has airy clean rooms and helpful staff. The hotel is right on the station so very convenient. The breakfast was very good.

Review 102:Attentiveness of staff, specially from Jennifer the server at therestaurant and breakfast buffet nicest person ever, also the owner wasvery personable a gave us a lot of good information while carrying hisbaby daughter :) . We highly recommend this hotel on your way to MachuPicchu ! Gracias por todo

Review 103:Some people may not appreciate the noise from the trains which start running very early.

Review 104:Location absolutely brilliant. Our carriage on the train back from Machu Picchu even stopped with the door opposite the entrance door to the hotel! We had a room looking out over the platform and really enjoyed watching the trains the next morning. Food in the restaurant is excellent.

Review 105:Nothing, everything was pretty much perfect. The only downside is that because the hotel is right on the tracks, you get some noise from the trains coming through, but it's not a very busy station and the rooms all face into the gardens

Review 106:Spacious room, very clean, great gardens, each room has a patio or balcony with lounge chairs to enjoy the view; great food at the restaurant; the farm lunch done in an earth oven; very helpful and friendly staff; perfect place to stay to do Machu Picchu (spend the night here and take the first train in the morning, still leaves plenty of time to explore and will be so much more comfortable)

Review 107:Too many mosquitos... Maybe it's because I ordered a room close to the garden... But horrible, and my friends heard train noises in early morning, even our room are the most distanced from the train station ones

Review 108:The personnel cleaned all the Mosquitos we saw in the rooms... The room became very clean afterwards!

Review 109:Loved it all! Stay here!

Review 110:Loved it all-what a beautiful setting-rooms were nice and spacious-modern bedding but rustic feel as well. Staff friendly-restaurant bestin town-organic from their own farm. Convenient at train station. Thegrounds are incredible. It was everything I hoped and best place westayed in Peru travels!

Review 111:Loved it all.

Review 112:Loved this place-very comfortable, beautiful, spacious rooms-very cozy and warm in a beautiful Andean mountain setting. Gardens and grounds are beautiful-very peaceful even though right at train station. Very convenient to be in this location. Food-all organic and grown, etc. at hotel-amazing. From walking around town-this is the only place to stay and eat. They were also helpful with arranging drivers, storing luggage, etc. Sergio communicated thru email before trip and was welcoming when we arrived. Do not miss this place-perfect to stay before going to Machu Picchu!

Review 113:This was not a personal dislike but it is a rustic place and not 'luxurious' by any standard. The shower did not have great water pressure but we did have hot water which was nice.

Review 114:I loved that we were right by the train station and that there was fresh delicious food. The hike up into town was easy and it was nice to stretch the legs.

Review 115:From the minute we arrived the staff were very helpful and friendly. They made us feel comfortable and gave very useful advice. The restaurant was great and again the service was very good. The rooms are tastefully decorated and comfortable.
