Reviews for Anantara Lawana Koh Samui Resort

Review 1:I stayed in Anantara Lawana for 5 nights with my husband and my parents and my opinion is that this hotel is far from being a so called 5 star luxury hotel. On our first night, we have complained about not having enough hot water to fill the bath. The manager Joao Corte Real sent a technician for 2 days to check the problem but in the third day, when the problem was still unsolved, he confessed that other customers have already complained about not having enough hot water, but they haven't yet being able to address the problem accordingly. His comment was: "The bath is more for the design of the room and not really for being used as in a hot weather place like Koh Samui we don't expect people will take baths." He suggested to fill the bath with hot water from their kitchen, please see the picture to understand how unbelievable was the situation. The bath is quite big, so you can imagine that it took around 2h to fill it. The problem is that once the bath was filled in the hot water was no longer hot, as each trip they would take to the kitchen would take around 30 min. The toilet was also not properly cleaned having skid marks on it upon our arrival. The breakfast didn't offer fresh juices and the fruits available were all ripe, what it is something not acceptable in Thailand, where the fruits are cheap and delicious in general.

Review 2:- Wifi is very slow. - Restaurant/bar of the resort are overpriced (we paid 5EUR for a water bottle at the beach bar).

Review 3:GREAT swimming pool! Never too cold. The complex is really nice and the rooms are spacious and decorated with taste.

Review 4:Extremely bad staff . Not prepared for group bookings . Hotel manager is never available and do not wish to take any responsibility . Very Very poor service and not advisable for family .

Review 5:close proximety from the airport

Review 6:Staff was very unprofessional and rude. Breakfast was such an ordeal looking at grumpy n grouchy faces. They definitely need to learn the meaning of service

Review 7:VERY minor quibbles and did not detract much at all from our unforgettable stay. The Resort Spa charged equiv A$120 for 1 hr massage - the somewhat less luxurious but just as good massage across the road cost A$12 for 1 hr. NOT good value for money. Maybe my Australian ignorance but the red wine was very chilled - had to hold the glass in my hands for 10 mins to get the red to a drinkable temperature for an Aussie - noone refrigerates Shiraz in Aus and it is just as hot in Queensland as Koh Samui.

Review 8:The staff are amazing - a combination of great training and the lovely nature of the Thai people. The food for breakfast and dinner was superb- the breakfast buffet was so enticing- we never once needed lunch. The location- a 5 minute taxi from airport and Chaweng shops- convenience store /pharmacy/very affordable massages just across the road from the resort. Excellent takeaway Thai across the road if we wanted to eat on our amazing balcony with views of the ocean and the lush resort gardens. The Tree-tops restaurant- an expensive but unforgettable and "must-do" experience- make sure you book early-maybe even before you come. They were booked out for 3 days when we arrived. The Happy Hour at the pool bar every evening before diner that made drinks quite affordable(50% off) I think probably the best resort we have stayed in - we will definitely be back.

Review 9:Wish the beach was a little nicer/water clearer, but there's not much the hotel can do about it.

Review 10:The staff were lovely, friendly and accommodating. We did a call at Spice Spoons and loved it!! Cocktails in the Tree Tops was lovely and we adored our room with it's plunge pool.

Review 11:The reception seems to be built on a mosquito nest. Extremely bad for mosquitos when checking in/out or coming/going from the hotel. Bathroom is outside Door leading to bathroom is glass panelled with no curtains or anything so of a morning light comes in and lights the whole room. The same door had a 1 inch gap at the bottom of it so we ended up with a lizard or two in the room, thankfully no cockroaches though!

Review 12:We were fortunate to have a spa pool room that actually caught the sun for a few hours. The main infinity pool is nice.

Review 13:Too many staff members at the reception and yet had to ask for a drink of water on arrival after waiting for a while ......after which the welcome drink and cold towel was just put in front of us......quite unusual for thai standards of hospitality. We were told that we had paid for the 31st dec gala dinner whilst checking in ....which was a surprise and felt manipulated in attending the celebration! Food at gala dinner was disastrously cold, tasteless and was unattended ( Tom yum gung was smelling fishy and had definitely gone bad).We were made to pay for our drinks. The staff was enjoying the celebrations more than the guests .....n yes had to place the tea kettle on the floor since there was no plug point at the table level ....

Review 14:The location, interiors of the room, the greenery, only housekeeping staff was efficient.....

Review 15:Hotel food menu need's to add multi cuisine to suit taste of food lovers.

Review 16:It is a wonderful property on the beach with superb staff. It is a ideal family hotel with unique blend of beauty and modernism.morning breakfast on sea side was awesome.

Review 17:Travel here before 23 Dec and after 1st Jan as the high earning snobby families who are extremely rude to staff, and are very loud and arrogant arrive during this period.

Review 18:We travelled here several days before Christmas the staff are absolutely amazing, friendly, caring and attentive. The properties are also amazing, spacious and very clean. The facilities are excellent with its own gym and personal yoga instructor including pool, bar and restaurant. The beach was lovely and tidy.

Review 19:The hotel was well located, and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly, there was some small problem with breakfast the first day we arrived however this was resolved and the manager send us a completely bottle of wine which was totally unexpected and a pleasant surprise. I Would recommend this hotel extremely highly

Review 20:The resort facilities need refurbishment and the timber deck around the pool is rotting away and very unstable to walk upon. The resort management are undertaking work to the pool bar and I assume the timber deck will be on the refurbishment list. Water pressure in the shower is very poor. Upsell of the resort time share was disappointing however it was not high pressure. Merely an envelope advising the opportunity existed. Thankfully the Thai courtesy made this a none issue and other people may well be interested.

Review 21:Staff, food and accomodation where good. The location is very good if you want a slight separation from Chaweng but still be within 15 minutes of the airport. All in all a good resort that is starting to show its age. Low rise townhouse accomodation is good and spacious. Like the big bath.

Review 22:The water in the hotel tastes funny. Just by washing your mouth from the water tap or shower has an awful sensation. You can't even brush your teeth using the tap water from the hotel.

Review 23:Location, staff extremely polite and friendly (I've been to many hotels in koh Samui. More than 20 hotels and this one has the best staff), car parkings, swimming pool, fitness gym, rent motorbike without the need to give them your passport, room, balcony and specially the bed mosquitoes cover.

Review 24:Street walkers selling ugly stuff on the private beach are VERY annoying and unpleasant to the eyes

Review 25:Great location, amazing masseuse Ning at the spa, lovely restaurant Tree Tops.

Review 26:VIP Membership presentation was very unprofessional.

Review 27:The hotel is very good and the staff are very friendly. Location wise the hotel is in the best place of the island very close to the central area and to the airport. The breakfast is awesome.

Review 28:Gym was in a very bad state with water raining in, aircon not working, floor matresses dirty.

Review 29:Very nice hotel, quiet atmosphere, fantastic restaurants.

Review 30:The distance was far from the rooms to the breakfast place

Review 31:The room was amazing with a comfortable bed and a nice balcony .the camp fire grill dinner near the beach was fantastic ,the tree top dinner seating was amazing but the food was not a quality for money also the menu was limited

Review 32:Mosquitos. Pest control came once during our stay to carry out pest control activities. The rooms are provided with anti-mosquito plug ins, nets on the bed & coils for outside but late September, we felt there were a lot of Mosquitos. It is the tropics, so take lots of repellant ( containing deep is best) to avoid mosquito bites.

Review 33:Friendly staff. We felt that we were welcome and valued guests.

Review 34:Food options felt limited. Didnt like the breakfast much - was too basic. The staff wasn't too helpful with getting things done outside the hotel. Especially with taxis, the manager was pushing us to go with a cab that was overcharging and refusing to turn the meter on. It felt that the manager was going to get a cut which was very inappropriate

Review 35:The room with the plunge pool was amazing, great privacy and comfort. The pool and beach areas were clean well taken care of with great service. You really feel you are in the jungle and no street sounds or anything that brings you back to reality! :)

Review 36:Water in sea in front of hotel not clean, need better service at breakfast, not enough staff at this time and no table follow up,

Review 37:Great staff and location. Good gym and yoga classes.

Review 38:Tax not included in menu prices, felt overpriced, better options in ko samui, slow Wi-Fi (makes you pay for faster connection), location bit far from main road

Review 39:Quiet more private beach. Great facilities, buggy service, nice pool.

Review 40:Mosquito's.

Review 41:We stayes in one of the poolvilla's. Very comfortable. Amazing staff. Excellent breakfast. Various bbq buffet with live entertainment and fireshows (which the kids loved very mich).

Review 42:The kindness and the peacefull environment and the will to make us please. The place is very clean and the workers are very very polite!!! Thank you all

Review 43:big mosquito problem that week, cloud all week too, and refub programme going on as well, although staff tried hard to minimise disruption.

Review 44:Staff really good, especially Sunny! Cleaning staff and bar / restaurant staff always smiling and happy!

Review 45:Location; on the beach, it was impossible to get into the water for a strong low tide during all the day long.If I chose to go to a beach resort, I want to be able to enter the sea!

Review 46:The hotel itself was fine. Service was good, staff also

Review 47:Upon check in, the AC in Room 301 emitted a terrible smell. An engineer was sent to fix this; and we were advised to go away for dinner (non complimentary). Upon return we found the smell persisting. At that point, alternative accommodation was found. An upgrade was offered at a price. When this was declined, a reduced price was offered! I felt like I was being sold goods at a night market.

Review 48:The staff were attentive and courteous. They accommodated our requests promptly. Cold towel wipes available on request! Fantastic pool. Amazing buffet breakfast spread. Amazing restaurant - Tree Tops. Good spa.

Review 49:The food didn't meet my expectations, and the room service was not meeting 5 star service I give 3 star.

Review 50:The service was very good , the staff was helpful and understanding, nice location.

Review 51:We didn't eat here as prices were more expensive compared to higher rated hotels we had stayed prior to our 2 night stop at the Anantara. The included breakfast offered a nice display and selection. It would have been nice to order fresh from chefs instead of having to take pre-cooked eggs/poached eggs.on muffin that had been sitting on the display for a while.

Review 52:Our bedroom

Review 53:Construction in the middle of the hotel. they started 08:30 in the morning offloading all metal construction from the lorry at once. It was like earthquake. During the day heavy noise in the rooms close to reception. No information about construction while reserving room. wifi is not stable.

Review 54:Close to airport, chaweng center, Bohut fisherman village and big Buddha. Beatiful beach. Protected by rocks far form the beack and some snorkeling is possible in that rocky area. Service in the beach area is good. wide variety in breakfast. Rooms are clean, well decorated and reflecting tropical island sprit.

Review 55:slow wifi non comfortable chair in room no proper reading lights anywhere in the room

Review 56:nice rooms ,good beds , great breakfast , kind and good staff

Review 57:The hotel feels slightly dated, Overpriced, lots of steps and walking, not a fantastic beach, waiting for coffee at breakfast, Wi-Fi is very poor. Room was by road and noisy, beach was a little cramped

Review 58:Great location, impressive setting, very friendly and helpful staff, good breakfast

Review 59:One nite our AC went off and we had to move to another room at around 2am, spoilt the night and next morning

Review 60:First time experienced the open toilet facilities, under the sky and in open rainfall, was amazing!!

Review 61:We always stay at anantara every where, as my kids love it and all staff are very skilled and oriented to provide and actively contribute to make all of us happy, they even customize the food menu to suit our kids taste, the chief was coming every meal to make sure that our 19 months baby has the food that fits him, three times he cooked special meal to our baby, who gained 2 kg's during our stay there. Many thanks Anantara team for such unparalleled experience.

Review 62:We hosted a lunch for a couple who were flying out that afternoon. Unfortunately a very slow service caused them to almost abandon there meal

Review 63:our unit had a great plunge pool right at the door. very private and quiet. The outdoor rain shower was also a nice feature

Review 64:The mosketo bites ;-(

Review 65:Myself and my new shiny wife stayed in the villa at lawana. Outstanding accomodation. Villa was cleaned morning and night, the cleaner must have been in the room 40 mins in the morning and 15 mins at night. Food amazing. Location amazing.service was outstanding. Without a doubt the nicest hotel my wife and I have stayed in...and we've stayed in many great hotels.

Review 66:Can't think of anything I didn't like at this resort.

Review 67:Upgrade to a plunge pool villa on arrival. Perfect setting for peace and privacy which was what I was looking for. The staff were wonderful and very accommodating with any request. My room was comfortable, good sleep every night. I have two sessions at Anantara Spa and it was well worth it. The Tree Tops Sky Dining restaurant was also a wonderful experience. I will be back again.

Review 68:The toilet wasn't clean for during these five nights. There was noise from a construction site near the hotel. The prices of the hotel's restaurants were very high, and did not include service and tax!

Review 69:We went to Anantara Lawana for our honeymoon, we stayed there for five nights. The hotel was beautiful. the rooms were Thai- style, very comfortable. The pool was big and fun and was by the beach. The breakfast was absolutely amazing, every morning. The staff (mostly Su) was very welcoming and kind.

Review 70:For price paying would like to see free wifi in the rooms. Bathroom very hot could do with an air conditioner or fan.

Review 71:Service was fantastic Breakfast great Staff very friendly and helpful

Review 89:Very good hotel, clean room, tree top dinning, fireman show

Review 90:No car take us to the room after 9 PM, and no Wi-Fi for high-speed for free .

Review 99:The beach.

Review 100:Very nice resort. Beautiful pool area . Tree top restaurant fantastic .

Review 101:The poor Wifi and the mosquitoes

Review 102:Lovely idea of a pool infront of the Villa

Review 103:Insects were a bit if a problem in the room.

Review 104:Amazing location. Super rooms.

Review 105:In room dining wasn't available at night.

Review 106:Staff were very friendly and fluent in English. loved the room design. Excellent spa.

Review 107:Pillow menu Gorgeous rooms Excellent staff Treetops restaurant Excellent breakfast

Review 108:Size of room expensive compare to service provided

Review 109:Location

Review 110:It's a great hotel with nice and lovely Staff

Review 111:AC, was not strong enough.beach next to it was not worth.

Review 112:Location is fair. staff is very good. rooms are good but won't call this a luxury hotel.

Review 113:Bathroom cleanliness and the fact that there was no grooming mirrors there.

Review 114:The spa and the lagoon beach.

Review 115:- we came to Samui for the famous Chawen beach, but the hotel beach is dirty, hush, and cannot stay - too many mosquitoes in the yard so cannot stay outside - lack of facilities, no kids club or gym, no shaddow for the pool so cannot stay in daytime

Review 116:service is good

Review 117:The beach is pathetic. One night we ordered pizza and spaghetti and it took them about 2 hours to serve. Then also, out of three only two were served. On our complaint the third one arrived but by then we had already lost our appetite and were in no mood to eat. The spaghetti was horrible. Although, the manager made our meal complimentary but the damage had already been done. Swimming pool is too small and very dark.

Review 118:Terrace with the room. Room cleaning staff.

Review 119:Rooms feel a little squeezed in... I.e. We were in a pool villa and they the suites without pools above you on a second story... Still private but just reduces natural light.

Review 120:Amazing resort. Extremely awesome and friendly staff.

Review 121:Hotel beach is not really suitable for swimming, we took a ride to Chaweng Centre and spent first half of the day at Eat Sence restaurant beach and went back to the hotel after lunch. But the advantage is that beach located away from city, it’s quite and there were no people not from our hotel

Review 122:everything, especially breakfast Best hotel on Chaweng

Review 123:Internet was bad, lousy! They put us in the corner room (room324) where wifi was extremely unstable. After complaining numerous time, nothing was fixed.

Review 124:Wonderful environment! High class facilities. It is a place where you can truly relax and enjoy vacation. (Well, with exception of their wifi signal)

Review 125:Staff was not helpful and nice like in the Phuket one, the noise of the AC in the room was beyond belief (like a 1950s one!!) and the space in the room and the size of our private pool was not as good as the Phuket one.

Review 126:The overall Experience was ok, but after I've experienced the Anantara in Phuket I was left a bit disappointed. The pool and the sea location are great, the top tree restaurant is simply sensational!!! If you stay here you must dine there!!!

Review 127:The plunge dip villas weren't all that so I upgraded to the villa and was very happy I did-

Review 128:The pool villa is the one to go for-and the beach was great

Review 129:No A/C in bathroom's villa, some facilities outdated, lack of lighting in rooms/public areas (can be really dark in some areas!!!), the resort is definitely too big and wide (walk to the beach/breakfast can take long time, be advised!). We also didn't like being charged for a compulsary NYE gala dinner we never intended to join anyway, neither being waken up by cleaning staff, although "do not disturb" was on the door. Price is punching way above belt, even though service is pretty good. No intention of coming back.

Review 130:Breakfast quality, bed comfort, frontdesk staff efficiency, beach area with comfy sun beds, the "night set up "in rooms and the location on the island.

Review 131:The infinity pool is a bit small. Not a great problem, I have to say, but worth mentioning. Apart from this, the place is full of mosquitos. That, in itself, is ok: there are so many trees, plants and small lakes to create a nice surrounding, and that's the price to pay. But then, bathroom windows, that are not proper windows and cannot be shut, should have fly-nets on the outside to stop those mosquitos entering the bathroom. The bed has a mosquito net, so sleeping is fine, if you are careful when you enter it. To me this sounds like one of those mistakes made by architects, when they focus on beautiful design without concentrating enough on day-to-day practicalities.

Review 132:The resort is architecturally very nice in its Japanese style. The food is also very good and the private beach is really nice as well. A special mention goes to the private balcony of the room: with the fan and curtains it makes the perfect place to hang around in the evening .

Review 133:We chose to pay and upgrade to a plunge pool villa on the last 2 days of our stay but were very disappointed with the maintenance of the pool. It was mossy and had unmaintained surroundings. We wished that a higher price would come with ether facilities

Review 134:The quality of service across all staff was commendable.

Review 135:The best service and most well informed staff. The spa, beach, pool barwere all great. We had dinner at Tree Tops, which was a great meal andthe best view from our table. Highlight of every day was the fantasticbreakfast at Ocean Kiss.
